- Thinking about making the switch from Goodreads to The StoryGraph? Or just want to see what The StoryGraph is all about?
Well in this video I’m going to compare them both and by the end, you’ll be armed with enough information to make your own decision.
Just to note, I’m going to be comparing Goodreads with the free version of The StoryGraph - but I will be talking about the pro version.

Yes very true. They do have that as a major benefit
It's not just that though. Storygraph really is much better in terms of functionality, usability and customer support. The only benefit of goodreads is the database of books and the number of users. But Storygraph is increasing in that very soon
Ooo from the initial feeling and look I'm definitely leaning towards storygraph. Feels more modern and clean. I haven't really used goodreads so it wouldn't be switching over but more like really starting :)

I really liked this comparison especially because I keep trying to get my friends to join the storygraph and now I have something to share with them that explains better than I do!!! :D I kinda wonder how they compare now with all the updates storygraph adds every few months (vs changes or lack thereof on goodreads)! Personally I dislike the "social" aspects of goodreads because I find most peoples reviews don't actually review the book as much as their personal opinions, which I don't find helpful so I never use those functions. Plus I feel like goodreads reviews are also iffy considering how much of a books success is based off of its performance on goodreads these days. It's also annoying how on goodreads bc its so similar to other social media setups that a lot of people just review based off of how it will make them look rather than their honest thoughts. I don't think the storygraph stops this or anything but they're set up in a way that makes it easier for me to find actually helpful info in reviews rather than just book facebook or something lol! Plus I think the storygraphs other features like page/hour challenges and user made book challenges as well as lack of ads and listening to their userbase in general is worth mentioning!!! I've had goodreads since 2015 and I use both today but it's so refreshing how the storygraph actually changes things based off user ideas and seems more by and for bookworms rather than just solely a popularity contest within the publishing industry lol...

I saw The Storygraph mentioned on TikTok as an alternative to Goodreads and thought there was no harm in taking a look. I'm still waiting for my Goodreads data to transfer over but I'm already preferring it even without any of my books and history on there. My main thing is that I struggle with finding new books so on Goodreads, I just have to go on what my friends are reading. On The Storygraph, it looks so much more accurate on what I'd like. Compare it to Goodreads which said that because I enjoyed Prisoner of Azkaban, my top recommendation was Pride & Prejudice...? I'm also a statistician by profession so I'm excited to see my breakdown of books and what I actually like to read compared to what I think I do.
Oh gosh yeah Goodreads just doesn't do the book recommendations thing well. Which is weird considering it's an Amazon thing. The website is a lot better than mobile but not by much. So glad StoryGraph is working out for you!

I’m not very good at Goodreads, but I did look into story graph too. I wish there wasn’t a pay wall for some of those features, but also understand why they do it. I think I’ll be keeping an eye on StoryGraph for now

I'm just starting to read... I tried to use goodreads, but I found it hard to understand the site, storygraph I found it more intuitive, and I have been loving the recommendations and the mood information about the books
Yeah I can see that. Goodreads is finally doing some design updates now but there's a lot going on that's for sure.
StoryGraph is worth it if you pay, but I hate paying for apps, that is why i'll keep Goodreads. I love the new book tracking though :/
The one thing I do like about The StoryGraph though is the content warnings and better review style. Goodreads doesn't have that. But yes, the paywall can be a big barrier.
Features from Storygraph look really good, modern and impressive to see the recommendations. For me the switch would be easy and I think monthly costs are quite normal now for excellent features.

I have both. I think The StoryGraph has the edge though.
Interesting… never heard of storygraph. I’m so used to goodreads and have many reviews there so wouldn’t switch but I like its look and feel.
You can transfer all your reviews over too! So handy! But yes, I can understand it might be a bit hard to switch.
I had no idea goodreads was Amazon! Suddenly I’m not so keen on it.

I really hate when websites update their features too often and I have to relearn it again.I can’t say I’m too mad about how dated Goodreads is.It does need some tweakments though.
Since I created this video, they have started to make some changes but they've not fully rolled out yet. I'll have to do another update video at some point. I do agree though, too many changes can be a pain.
I feel overwhelmed in Goodreads tbh. I made my account so long ago, now I have thousands and thousands of notifications, can't find my old books and titles gone missing etc because I used to read a lot of obscure titles.
I just want to store my highlights from the Kindle app somewhere. Is one better than the other at doing that or is there a better alternative?

I lost my password to Goodreads so I need another site to track my books 😂😂
While Goodreads is so outdated and super slow, SG is just so basic, and has functions that require paying to unlock. Not worth the it until there's something worth paying for released.
goodreads has 10m downloads, storygraph only has 500k. if you care about community output and ranking the answer is obvious.
As far as Goodreads and The Storygraph are concerned, I'm in both camps. Based on a fellow bibliophile's recommendation, I joined Goodreads in August 2010. As for The Storygraph, I've been a member (non-paying) for at least the last 2 years.
For me, one of the best selling points about Goodreads is the opportunity it gives you to befriend other book lovers. Each Goodreads member has an e-mail account, and as you acquire friends in Goodreads, you can e-mail him/her directly, which I like. The Storygraph does not provide this service. For now, I'm content to stay with both Goodreads and The Storygraph.
