    One thing that I think would be really neat is to do an episode that takes a look at all the previously-completed power tool comparisons, and then to a 'brand' test.
    That way if you have to commit to a battery system, you can base that decision on many tools vs a single tool result.

      That's why I decided to go with Ryobi after having just a cordless drill for many years (two different brands). I decided I was going to go all in on cordless (had previously been a corded fan) and wanted the system that build reasonably good home gamer tools and had a very wide variety with the same battery, from tire inflators to work lights to recip saws. Also I like that Ryobi hasn't changed their battery mount for many years even as they move to newer battery technology - a 20 year old Ryobi tool that shipped with a NiMH battery will take a new LiIon battery just fine.

    • @BillCarlson
      @BillCarlson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@John_Ridley Same here. I've got a wall full of Ryobi tools - as this test (and others) have shown that their tools are usually pretty decent, but less than half the price of Dewalt, Milwaukee, or Makita. That means I can have double the number of tools at the same price, which is more important (to me - a DIYer) than making the cuts faster.

    That Dewalt saw you tested here is the "FlexVolt Advantage" version, so if you use a FlexVolt battery with it instead of just the plain 20V, it's going to operate at 60V and theoretically be even more powerful. Would love if you tested that too! Thanks Todd!

As a viewer and subscriber I can’t think of anything you could do better. I also like how you never spend a bunch of time bashing one brand or product. Always love your videos and feel like it's finally time for me to submit a suggestion, I think it's time for a reciprocating saw round 2 :D. I'd be great to see all of the brushless versions compared now that so many are out. Here are just a few of the new ones that have come out recently; Milwaukee Gen 2 Sawzall 2821-20, Milwaukee Super Sawzall 2722-20, Bauer Brushless 58075 with 5 amp battery, Hercules Brushless 57549, Skil PWRCORE Brushless RS5884-1A, DeWalt Max XR DCS368B, Ryobi One+ HP PBLRS01B, Hart Brushless HPRS25, and Craftsman Brushless CMCS350B, just to name a few! FYI with a good "pruning" blade, I prefer either of them to a chain saw for most tree and shrub pruning. Far more precise, lees traumatic to the plant and less "collateral" damage.

    Thanks for another great video!! Based on your video of battery operated hammer drills I bought a DeWalt 20vMax DCD796 because it was the lightest one in weight. It has proved its worth over the past 2 years. Mostly use it as a regular drill but I do have to set anchor bolts in block walls fairly often. I found I needed a cordless saw on the job I'm currently on, and since I already had the 20v batteries for the drill... I went ahead and bought a DeWalt 20v Max DCS380 recip saw. I did not watch this vid before I bought it, since I was buying to match what I had in batteries... Glad to see the DeWalt did so well!! I am very pleased with the saw and the drill. Got the drill used off ebay for $55 2 years ago and still going strong. Got the saw used for $40 off ebay a couple months ago and only used it twice so far.
    Am using an aftermarket brand of batteries called Vanon in a 3amp size and they have been doing very well. I did 29 holes thru 2x6 ceiling joists with a 3/4" Milwaukee spade bit the boss handed me one afternoon recently and only used 2 of 3 bars on the battery. I got a 2pack of them off ebay when I bought the drill. 2 years of fairly daily use later they are still charging fast and holding a charge very well. Just bought another 2pack from the same vendor since I got the saw, figured I should have a couple more.
    Your videos are very thorough and I greatly appreciate that you weigh the tools, I like DeWalt generally speaking because I am a small woman and have smaller hands, their tools fit my grip better. I also have one of their smaller corded 4" angle grinders with a three way removeable handle and a locking paddle switch that I have had for over 20 years doing metalwork... not sure which model it is but I love it!!
    Recently had an occasion to speak at length with a local tow truck driver as we dragged my vehicle back home, and got to talking tools, I mentioned the drill video and he excitedly asked me if it was a Project Farm vid!! So you have at least two big fans in our area!! Keep making these fabulous videos!!

    I'd love to see a multiple-tool shootout. You know, in case you're going to be purchasing one of those saw / drill / impact combo sets. My cordless tools are all from the same brand, not necessarily because I think it's the best, but once you're invested in a particular battery ecosystem, it doesn't make sense to have to buy multiple chargers and batteries that aren't compatible with one another. So I have a collection of "medium" tools.

      Your comment is the very reason I have stuck with soley makita tools in the 18v line up. I like that my batteries fit any of the tools made since 2007 and that the heavier tools just take 2 of the same batteries I already own. I use milwaukee 12v stuff and have been tempted by some of their 18v offerings, but I cannot stand having to buy another set of batteries. For reference, I have 80,batteries in makita and over 60 tools, 50 batteries and 44 tools in milwaukee m12

      @Cole Craypo - Because for a hobbyist, Milwaukee isn't cost effective. For the number of Ryobi tools I have, I'd have spent double that money, if not more, buying Milwaukee - and none of my Ryobi's have broken down as of yet. That includes the very first 18 volt drill and saw that I bought, long before Lithium-Ion batteries were the standard for any of them. (I still have _one_ rechargeable NiMH battery left)

    As always, thanks for the great comparisons. I used the Ryobi frequently in my lawn care business. I keep it on the truck and have a 9"Diablo pruning blade on it and keep a 12" blade available as well. I don't use it daily, but for convenience, and spur of the moments cutting that customers request, it has worked great for the past 3 years. I actually chose it prior to watching your videos since the majority of my cordless equipment is from Ryobi and I have 6 of the 4ah batteries and 2 of the 6ah batteries that I rotate through the tools. Ryobi may not have the best tools based on testing, but they usually do come out somewhere in the top half overall and not having to keep batteries for multiple brands of tools on hand is definitely a plus and worth considering. I have been really pleased with my impacts and drills from Ryobi in addition to the reciprocating saw. The Ryobi cordless chain saws are just, okay, so if I know I'm going to be doing lots of cutting, I put my Dolmar chainsaw on the truck. I have abused the heck out of that saw and it just keeps on going.

The extra weight from the DeWalt can actually be a benefit, especially when trimming high up branches that you can’t press down against. The weight of the tool does the job for you. And have we heard anything about tools ever being too heavy duty?? Keep in mind, my dad bought me the DeWalt 18V combo kit when I was 19. Everything still works like new. Would have liked to see Milwaukee's super sawzall in here too, the one with the orbital blade action. Still a very good video as always. Jobsite speakers (or just 'tough' Bluetooth speakers) would be a cool video.

      I was hoping to see the super sawzall. Hopefully he revisits this to test it in comparison to the Dewalt

    Todd, you make our days awesome. You testing methods make us re-think our own methods which we use at work. It helps a lot. Stay AWESOME.

    Man! I really love your comparison videos! Especially the lengths you go to to standardize testing criteria and eliminate variables for more accurate results. In this same spirit though, I really wish u would consider including the results for Dewalt's 60V capable power tools in 2 separate categories going forward. 1. using standard 20V Max & the other when using Flexvolt batteries. Considering Dewalt often claims >50%+ performance just by swapping batteries. That's basically like comparing Harbor Freights tools to Milwaukee or Snap-On's. We as consumers, deserve to know if there is any truth to these claims or not & I can't think of another place where we'd have access to such a trustworthy source of unbiased results & see Dewalt's claims put to the test for such a large audience. Thanks again
