  • William Castle's sleep-terror thriller stars Barbara Stanwyck...
...as a woman whose sleep is haunted by dark, menacing figures.
But perhaps the scariest part of the whole movie is the opening.
Paul Frees' narration and Vic Mizzy's music...
...in addition to the strange images...
...will send chills down your spine.
I neither own nor claim any rights to this material. Just having some fun with it. Thanks for watching!

In my opinion, Paul Frees was the greatest voiceover artist of all time. It's not even close.

Did he do the narrator voice Haunted Mansion ride at Disney?

@@MrBrassboy Indeed! He lent his voice talents to several different attractions at Disneyland, as well as many of their animated shorts and films.

My favorite William Castle film, and I've seen them all. Robert Bloch and Vic Mizzy RULE.

"What are dreams? What do they mean? What do you know about the secret world you visit when you sleep?" What a super cool opening (and that music!). And the great Paul Frees narrates. What a voice! The man of a thousand voices. He's still the voice of "The Haunted Mansion". His awesome voice lives on. Thanks for posting!

Vic Mizzy’s music fits the film and esp this prologue like a glove

I loved this movie when I first saw it as a kid. Years later I thought maybe it would have lost its magic, but I was pleasantly surprised at how the creepiness is still there.

I felt the same - I saw it on late night tv when I was in my early twenties a couple of times and loved it, and then... nothing. To my knowledge it hasn't been shown on UK television since then. I checked every now and then over the years to see if it had been released on video, but there didn't seem to be anything available, then a few years ago I was able to get a copy from someone who was selling unofficial DVDs of it on Ebay (I believe it's now officially available, and about time, too).
When I watched it, it was every bit as good as I remembered.
The bit toward the end where her dead husband seems to be taking his face apart still gave me the chills it did when I first saw it, and the musical score is superb.

Hate to say it but the prologue is actually scarier than the movie that follows it.
