Dan Gelbart has a video on "coatings" where he talks about how you can get paint. powdercoat and etc to stick really really well with either sandblasting, torching the metal, or cleaning the surface with ajax or comet. This removes any microscopic films or drops from solvents which can eventually lead to the paint coming off more easily than it needs to. Maybe something to give a try.

Getting a couple fiber wheels is on my list of things to do! I'm gonna keep my eye out for another 6" grinder at the sales so I can have one dedicated to coarse and fine wire wheels and one dedicated to a fiber wheel and buffing wheel combination.

The fiber wheel has the same texture as the green wheels that sharpened carbide rock drill bits. I ended up with a cheap crowbar from somewhere but do most of my prying with old shovel handles that have been BLO'ed. Nice finish for sure and HI, Smiley and Thanks CS!

Hi Scout, a couple of things to note about the fibre wheels. They come in a variety of grades from 80grit right up to 1000 grit. They are also available for 4 & 5 inch grinders. And finally they make a hell of a mess but the results are worth it. I have connected up my 4” ducting system to each wheel and that has made a huge difference. Great work on the crowbar. I still need to pick up some better wire wheels. Among the other things sitting in the shop waiting eternally is a bag of old wrenches and such to clean up and polish. The little 4 inch wheel works, but it's slow. And I have an open arbor on the 2x72 waiting for a job.
I guess I've been using fiber wheels for at least a decade and you're right they're a game changer. There's something almost magical about an old high quality steel crowbar, I'm sure Grandpa would be thrilled if he could see his now.
Hi scout, grandpa's crowbar looks great, I see you've got the latest watercooled electric supply, all your power tools will be much cooler before long, it's supplied by the Flash Bang electric co, true inovaters in power supply, the only downside as I see it , is the wearing of a rubber diving suit, because of the water you understand, and using wires or pipes to direct the flow of electric is optional . I recently had a 6” grinder with a super soft wire wheel and last week upgraded to a 8” bench grinder I bought the harbor freight brass but am looking for something even finer that will almost polish.

Check the top of the pipe that your electric comes in. There should be a curved hood that has its opening facing down. It’s caked a weather head. You might need an electrician to make adjustments to the weather head. Con Ed owns the wire leading up to the hook that’s mounted on the house, and then you own the pipe and the wire running down it. They own the meter, but the box that the meter is in is yours and of course, everything after the meter is your responsibility to maintain. Often the serviceman will do you a solid and fix the pipe where it’s connected to the house if he likes you, but he isn’t required to and can actually get in trouble for doing it, but most people would not complain of it saves them the cost of hiring an electrician. But it’s definitely not good to have the water coming in like that and it can damage your meter and give erroneous readings, so I would call them first and feel the guy out. But remember that he isn’t obligated to fix certain things and can tell you to get an electrician. It’s better safe than sorry!
Hi Joe! Most electrical service here in the city comes into the house underground from the telephone poles at the street... Con Edison is responsible for this as the water is entering the service pipe at the pole. This isn't very uncommon here as over time shifting polls often open the service pipe enough that water finds it's way in... I have heard that one fix Con Ed does is pour melted bee's wax into the service pipe at the pole creating a seal. I had this problem in 2017 and they said they fixed the problem... Well, I called them back and I am on the list again... =)

Absolutely love those fibre wheels. You’re right, they are a game changer. I have an old wire wheel my Dad bought about 55 years ago. I still use it as it’s a lovely soft steel brush. It has never lost a wire but is worn down almost to the hub, so not quite as soft as it used to be. Love your work John. Thanks. 🇦🇺👍
Since the Boy Scouts recalled the neckerchief slides because of too much lead in them, I suspect that the fiber wheels might have lead in them!? Wear a breather mask when in use. It could be worse ... asbestos!!! Dad Joke: Where did crows go for a drink, before they made a crowbar? =P
@@ScoutCrafter Had a very similar problem in my house. Insulation on power line had very small cracks. FAILED. Water came down line into box - circuit breakers were rusted. Cost me $1500 to fix. New circuit box and now power line is in conduit. Should have been, it faces the southern sun.

Hello Mohamed - Yes it's on the list! As for ruining the integrity not at all, however excessive rust can, if left alone can eventually compromise integrity! I have seen rusty tools snap! Never clean ones...
Another type of wheel I've seen around is a rubber "eraser wheel" which is supposed to do really well at removing sticker and decals. Not sure what else it'd be good at, they seem made for drills. Might work for burnishing soft materials if you can stick a chuck on the grinder arbor or clamp the drill down?

Ild love you to do a video for me using a brass wire wheel on a project but heat it up first it will pull brass off the wheel and turn the part golden. Im sure alot of people have not seen that and would be interested in seeing a spanner or hammer turned gold in real time. Many Respects ild also love a shout out for the video idea please? 😉👌

@@ScoutCrafter I paid less than 10 bucks for a 3"×1/2" wheel, about 6 years ago. I bought 2, the other has never been used yet. They are much denser than the fiber wheel in this video. Mine is on a 90° die grinder, used for deburring and polishing as well as corrosion, paint, and fueltank sealant removal. In 25 years I have worn out 5.

Being an electrician, I can tell you that the utility company is only responsible for the service conductors to your house. Anything after that is the responsibility of the homeowner. Great video as always!

Only one way as the flaps are laid down so they won't tear off when spinning. The best way to buy the flap discs are in bulk as you save a ton of money! If you buy them at home depot they are very expensive!
Brother scout my grandpa told me i was the kid who could tear up a crow bar but i tried it wrung my bell like i never forgot. So you didnt tear up the crow bar either lol
So relieved you are staying vertically integrated... for a moment there I thought it was going to be grinding outsourced to @Joe's Shop, then wire wheeling to @WireWorks, and then polishing to @357MagDad (as he is currently holding over half the U.S. supply of Flitz), and then of course shellacking would stay in-house @ScoutCrafter! Never in my life have I seen anyone restore and polish a crowbar. I don't know what was weirder; you doing it, or me enjoying the process vicariously. If you had added red spiral stripes you could have stuck it in your yard for Christmas.

Hi Jeff! Good question, I've seen them used on motors up to 3600 rpm but I suggest 1750 if possible...

We used those at work and they do work for that! It is the same material that standing belt cleaners are made from!
We call it tooth . it had enough tooth to coat it .

Ild love you to do a video for me using a brass wire wheel on a project but heat it up first it will pull brass off the wheel and turn the part golden. Im sure alot of people have not seen that and would be interested in seeing a spanner or hammer turned gold in real time. Many Respects ild also love a shout out for the video idea please? 😉👌

That fiber wheel is similar to the 3M Unitized wheel I suggested about a year ago, only bigger. Nice crowbar resto, been looking for one myself.
3M wheels are great but very expensive! =)

I paid less than 10 bucks for a 3"×1/2" wheel, about 6 years ago. I bought 2, the other has never been used yet. They are much denser than the fiber wheel in this video. Mine is on a 90° die grinder, used for deburring and polishing as well as corrosion, paint, and fueltank sealant removal. In 25 years I have worn out 5.
What finish does the fiber wheel achieve? Have you tried the nylon wheels?

Great vid as always. I think that's the nicest crowbar in the northeast! Almost too nice to use...a presentation crowbar if you will.

James, I have about 20 crowbars, I’m a nut for them! Two years ago I was at a Tractor show and a guy was selling a whole bucket of vintage crowbars for $1 each! It took all my will power to walk away! 😃

Being an electrician, I can tell you that the utility company is only responsible for the service conductors to your house. Anything after that is the responsibility of the homeowner. Great video as always!

Does the fiber wheel only go on one way or can you flip it?
Only one way as the flaps are laid down so they won't tear off when spinning. The best way to buy the flap discs are in bulk as you save a ton of money! If you buy them at home depot they are very expensive!
Brother scout my grandpa told me i was the kid who could tear up a crow bar but i tried it wrung my bell like i never forgot. So you didnt tear up the crow bar either lol

So relieved you are staying vertically integrated... for a moment there I thought it was going to be grinding outsourced to @Joe's Shop, then wire wheeling to @WireWorks, and then polishing to @357MagDad (as he is currently holding over half the U.S. supply of Flitz), and then of course shellacking would stay in-house @ScoutCrafter! Ha Ha!!
Never in my life have I seen anyone restore and polish a crowbar. I don't know what was weirder; you doing it, or me enjoying the process vicariously. If you had added red spiral stripes you could have stuck it in your yard for Christmas.
The humble crowbar is one of the most useful and well designed tools ever made yet is always taken for granted... I am a huge fan of all types of crowbars and only wish they were more appreciated for their service! =) Thanks Michelle!
