    John, you really knocked it out of the park with this one. That wrench has never been so happy. I love the color, and it sure beats seeing it all rusty sitting in the back of a drawer for many years. I'm so glad all 3 tools are in a good home now, as we don't have old tool collectors living near me, and I didn't want to just give them to Goodwill or someone that would beat them up. I'm looking forward to watching many more of your excellent restorations in the future.

      Hi Bob! I’m so glad you like the finished results. It still amazes me how something can be turned around to look so nice. Thanks again!!! 😃👍

    Great lesson on the polishes. You really made that wrench look great now! I get a kick out of people who don't understand that making a tool like that is simply a part of the fun of a hobby. I see it as being something akin as to how some people really enjoy making Steampunk items. Its all about the fun in the process, working with your hands, and making a great looking item.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Hi Scout. ...I hope you can follow my train of thought. Another idea instead of a shim would be to take a piece of spring steel (or spring brass), put a bow in the center, and leave long enough to form two ears (bend over) to keep it in place once installed. Thanks for sharing and the color is awesome! Have a happy day!

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John - That’s exactly what I did! The shim has 90 degree tabs on each end to hold it in place! 😃👍

    36 hours
    In the big dunk.
    The rust all came off.
    Not in big chunks.
    Then to the thumb wheel.
    What a pain in the neck.
    Heat and SC juice.
    It’s stubborn as heck.
    Then it comes loose.
    As easy as pie.
    Look at the handle.
    It’s pleasing to the eye.
    To the milling machine.
    Fix up that hole.
    Then on to the polish.
    Is that Flitz in the bowl?
    “No Flitz for you!”
    The ScoutCrafter said.
    97 other brands
    He uses instead.
    Gold leaf and shiny
    And paint stuff he fed.
    Inventing a new shade
    Of ScoutCrafter Red!
    Beautiful job John. Thanks for the fun. 🤠

    The wrench turned out great. Love the red. I tried the trans 50/50 on a pipe vise my son had been restoring. The screw handle is like a c-clamp and it was frozen solid. We had tried soaking it in several things with nothing working. He was about to give up. We had used your mix but without heat. Tried that a couple of times and it came right out. I have one if those auto wrenchs waiting for a warm day to work on. Can not wait to get back into the shop. Thanks

    Hey John, I'd love to see a video on how you keep your shop clean and dust free. I've got a vacuum collector and a ceiling mounted shop air cleaner. I spend the last 15 minutes every night cleaning and vacuuming, yet the dust is still insane. How does a pro like you handle this mundane problem?

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John- For our next shop- we must get a separate "dirty room" where all the buffing, grinding and sanding is done... You are so right, it is so hard to keep that fine dust from getting everywhere! =)

    Nice job, Scout! I don't know if you know anyone in the jewelry business. If you do; see if they'll let you have a little jeweler's rouge. I've got just a little that I got a long time ago. As you approach the finished product, use the rouge at the end. If you had to buy it, I would venture that it's pretty dang expensive. I liked what that tin you bought did. The rouge would probably be a bit of overkill, though. Imagine a 100 year old wrench you could use as a cuff link. Just kidding. Great looking wrench at the end.

    That wrench came out solid looks great can you talk about fixing ball detents i have a 9 in 1 screwdriver that has some slop in the detent

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rush Fitzwater Ball detents can be frustrating! The funny thing is they are quite simple, a captive ball with a spring behind it. Now if the spring is broken or weak the ball will have slop. There is a chance that the spring is rusted in the collapsed position. Try adding some penetrating fluid into the ball cavity. Other then that it’s a hard fix. 😃👍

    What did you do with the pin? Did you make a new one? Nice job on the wrench. I like the red paint with the gold.

      HI Edward- The pin looked worn but worked fine, I left it because I was wondering if they were like that from the factory! I have seen some strange parts that you would swear was added on after but came that way! =)

    The colour looks real good! (The rest of the wrench too ofcourse) I really like it, but I'm a big gold fan.
    I'm painting up the gas can I'm restoring, I sprayed it black first and hope it leaves the red darker wich I'm spraying now.
    Last weekend I bought my first craftsman screwdriver, they are kind of rare over here. Now it has no red on the handle and no remains of red too, the blue is all there tough. Is it a knock of?
    Thank you so much again. I think I can get the peek over here too!

      Alex - The new Craftsman Screwdrivers are made in Taiwan and seem very good. However China is now replicating everything! So hard to tell!!! 😃👍

  • @drstrangefart
    @drstrangefart 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah, the color difference didn't show up too strong for me. BUT, that's still good paint work. The auto wrenches may have been cheap when they were made, but now they more than make up for it by virtue of being cool pieces to have in the shop.

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curiosity Forge Allan- I love those wrenches but still never use them! I’m so used to the Crescent style! 😃👍

    • @drstrangefart
      @drstrangefart 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use mine whenever possible. I infinitely prefer the Coes style or the Billings Bicycle wrench, but the auto wrenches can realistically take more abuse than the Billings. The Coes styles are really heavy and are better suited for bigger jobs.

    Nice video! The wrench came out very nice! The new red color seems to me a bit more dark and less glossy than the one you have used at your previous videos.
    You have restored a lot of monkey wrenches so I guess they were really popular at the beginning of the 20th century. But nowadays no one uses them and almost everyone prefer the newer style of adjustable wrench. Do you know why this shift happened? Is there a flaw at the design of the monkey wrench? Is the adjustable wrench easier and cheaper to make? Thanks in advance!

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's true! I never use these auto wrenches! The Crescent type is so much easier to use!
