    My Heartfelt Condolences, ScoutCrafter! My ex-wife had gall stones, and she said the pain was worse than childbirth! She was doubled over and crying, so I have an acute sense of what you must have gone through! May you remain stone-free from now on.

    I hope the procedure for kidney stones is better than it use to be, shattering the stones and trying to pass them is no joke. Get well soon and hope you are fully recovered for Xmas. Nice little Billings wrench as for brushes, belts, and polishers I was bought a a half inch power file for a birthday present and when you look at it, you think it was a toy. One of the best tools to use.You get various grits for it, inexpensive and shifts a lot of material and can get in places other power tools cannot.

    Great video. I am a new at this so I learned a lot. Love your channel. Do you use a progression of belt grips to before you polish and if so what grits do you start. I have seen some people suggest starting with 200 and keep doubling the grit? Thanks for a great video hope you are feeling better. Wayne

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Wayne! Yes! Usually 220 is a great starter then a quick hit with 400 grit and you are ready for polish! Thanks so much!!!!!!

    I have lucked out three times so far with kidney stones, that I know of. Passed one that was 4.09mm this summer and a couple in the 2mm range here in the last few months. Add lemon to your water is what my Doc said. He showed me his that was a little over 6mm, and that one put him in the hospital for a couple days. Mine was actually sent to the lab for testing and it turned out to be a normal 'midwestern' calcium stone. I've heard enough horror stories that I drink lots of water and real lemonade now. Another beautifully done Billings wrench by the way, he's sure to be a happy camper for a long time.

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello HKF!!! 6mm! Nice! LOL You can wear that as a badge of honor passing one that size! It's funny how many people here have also had them! It kind of makes me nervous thinking god forbid that happened on a plane! =O Thanks so much!!!!!

    Bought a Billings Bicycle Wrench after watching your video. It was identical, except for a mystery hole below the knurl wheel. The "holed Billings" apparently a later version that peened the threaded portion so it could not be easily taken apart. After a tedious vise clamping/unclamping procedure, I got the threaded portion past the knurl wheel. I filed the peen marks out and now it works as smoothly as this earlier version. I risked damaging the knurls' interior thread, but it worked great. It would be nice to see Scoutcrafter take on one of the peened version. Would he drill or not through that hole. 😂

    Scout I have to try and clarify... I have seen you mention different recommended rpm speeds in different videos... I specifically remember you saying 1725 rmp was the fastest you should go with a wirewheel but i see here your using a 3400rmp with a wirewheel. I've never used one (always did everything by hand) but I'm looking to pick one up or more likely 2... one for buffing wheels and one for wire wheels... so what are you thinking rmp wise for each?

    Hey ScoutCrafter, hope you feel better soon. Another great video/restoration.
    I really appreciate you taking the time to go thru all the steps required. I have a question - would you use a degreaser first, as not to con terminate your wire wheel?
    Vaughn

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Vaughn! Yes! I learned the hard way years ago being lazy I would take a greasy or dirty wrench to the wire wheel and it would work at first but the oil dirt and grease would wind up on and in the wheel and transfer to every other tool I did... It pays to always get any oil, grease or caked dirt off the tool before using the wire wheel. A degreaser work great! This Billings had hardly any oil or grease just dried rust, I just wiped it down with alcohol. In the long run it really pays off! Thanks Vaughn!!!!!

    An odd, drifting yarn. not rigorously researched yet So, take it with a bit of iron oxide.
    I found a very rusted adjustable wrench, can't remember where. It looked like it was total history, but it came loose, then cleaned up on a bench-mounted wire brush very well and told a story - maybe.
    It said "Billing and Spencer, co., Hartford Conn,." when examined through my grandfather, Fred Spencer's old brass-rimmed taylor's cutter magnifying glass. He was born 1886, I think, the last one of six sons. All others were appenticed to engineers, (and toolmakers?) so his dad, also one, said six is enough,and apprenticed Fred to a taylor. as a taylor's cutter, in London. He used to run to work, by was billed by 1908 as the fastest runner in Britain, asked to go to the Olympics but emigrated to South Afria instead. We have a silver Harrier's cup, with his name on it. twice. Was regimental sergeant of an entire Cape regiment, Cape Town Scottish captured in early WW1 by the Germans, well treated, told me, "When they ate, we ate. When they starved, we starved." so very lucky. Same Spencers as the notorious ones, same English vllage, despite fervent denials, trackable back to France about 800 AD, name was "Le Dispencer," really a job-description, meant quartermaster, or prime minister. To an early Frankish king . Charles the Great (Grate/) who probably coul;d not have used a opanner if he tried. .
    Rest of Fred's brothers, lost to us. Then the spanner. Anyone know anything of those Spencers? I can send a pic of the wrench, which is not the bicycle one here, as it has the knurled knob on the outer edge. Condition of jaws perfect, mild damage on knurled knob. Be pleased to hear back

    And thank you for posting a "newbie" instructional video. Explaining how to use the various bits of equipment and putting it in a standalone video makes it much easier to find amongst your hundreds of videos! BTW, you do use a saw blade to clean the compound off the buffing wheel, right? (I thought I saw that in one of your recent videos).

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello NN! Yes, as long as you don't load up the wheel with too much compound you won't have a problem! Especially since we usually always use the same type compound. (Black) I hardly ever have to clean the wheel... Thanks NN!!!!!!!

I enjoyed the different brushes and buffing wheels you showed. You really have to get different wheels to try. I like those bike wrenches! I have the Harbor Freight 1X30 sander. Glad you're recovering Scout! I was looking for a Billings wrench recently during a visit to a South Carolina flea market and passed on one that I thought was defective. The hammer head face (if that's what it is) extended about a sixteenth of an inch longer than the fixed jaw face making it appear misaligned. I'm beginning to think they were designed liked this. Your tutorial helped educate me on what to look for in buying my first restoration project wrench. Thanks!

    Kidney stones are awful. I had to have a lithotripsy back in 2004 after a large stone lodged itself in the ureter (between kidney and bladder) and completely blocked the flow out of my left kidney. Was laid up for a week afterward.

    That turned out awesome. Can you put the buffing wheel on the bench grinder. Hat to here about your kidney stones they do suck, I had them b4. Plus a uti and flu all at once. Then about a year ago I got septic they were treating me for sepsis I was allergic to the antibiotics and it shut my kidneys down. I was in icu over a month on a bipap. Had to be on dialysis but now I'm doing OK.

    Another great restoration. Thanks for all the explanation because I'm one of your new viewers. One really cringes when you see a tool that's been hammered. A few months ago one of the home improvement shows on television had an electrician putting in an extra outlet and he was hammering nails on with the side of his lineman's pliers. Ouch. - Kathie

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kathie! There is an old saying that says "Tools are meant to be used" and people took that as saying "Do whatever you have to just get the job done" some things are more accepted then others to me... However I don't turn wrenches for a living so I have the option to take an extra 5 minutes to get the right tool... People on the job usually are rushed for one reason or another... For people like us who love tools it's so hard to watch! LOL Thanks Kathie!!!!!!
