My favorite basic houseplant type is sansevieria! I have so many and I stick them anywhere I have an open space. I love that they are the perfect vertical plant whereas most others spread horizontally and stay bushy. I love putting my big ones in empty corners to bring the eye up and my little ones in between different shaped plants on a shelf to break up the horizontal line! Plus it’s sooo easy to care for. I basically ignore them and they do amazing 💚

Definitely my scindapsus family that I have (some not so common, but mostly purchased online except for one - Argeryus)...Exotica, Silvery Ann, Argeryus, Jade (waiting on the Treubii moonlight, silver splash, and maybe dark form). Also, love my Cebu pothos (but also not so common... bought from Steve's Leaves😁). Thank you so much for the information Harli; was wondering about the growth rate on the Exotica, because my rooted cuttings have not grown any new growth points or leaves. But, only received that plant in April, so I have a little while to wait. I was actually trying to purchase one from the Plant Hall but I was too slow to checkout (lol). Love all your plants and your mom's too 💚

My fave basic plant right now is Schefflera. Very slept on IMO, super available, interesteting leaf shape, and what a tough customer. I have one that`s maybe 7 years old, and it`s been overwatered, underwatered, shoved in dark corners, put in full sun, and it barely batted an eye, just keep on growing. They also take pruning SUPER well and propagate pretty easily. I love how you rep that Scindapsus, I can feel the love, let it shine. I promoted mine to a better light spot and she is LIVING.

Pothos--particularly Hawaiian or Jade--are my staples! I'm OBSESSED with viny plants, and pothos are just perfect. I never get tired of looking at them

Plants I have and consider common(but I still love💚) are pothos-several varieties, adansonii, peperomia, ZZ, aglaonema, golden goddess philodendron etc. I moved from ag zone 4 to 8b a little over a year ago and it's crazy to see the difference in what's available/growavle here vs up north. Love you and your channel Harli!😘

I completely agree with you about the Exotica. It's my fave plant that I own. I was soooooo lucky to find a really huge 8' trailing one on Amazon for like $25 during the summer and I was blown away by how huge it was. It's been pushing big leaves ever since. The smaller one in my collection has been with me longer and it has barely grown in nearly 4 months. Once that root system is stable, it goes nuts! I'm taking your advice on the Pilea P. I killed my first attempt at this plant and I'm hoping this second one I have will survive now that I know about the tight pot and where to keep it in the house. TY!!!

It was nice to hear you say that it is possible to give plants TOO MUCH light. I feel there’s a common misconception that in order to have houseplants you have to put all of them up against a south or west facing window. Plants need light, yes, but moderation of light is just as important for a plant’s health. Especially since most of our indoor plants are understory plants and prefer diffused and dappled lighting.

I am fairly new to being a plant person. Started out with some paper whites last year. I am mostly into the succulents, snake plants, three potshots on top of our library and several cacti. I have recently purchased my first monstera. Just looking for tips and tricks for what will challenge my greenish thumb next. Thanks for the tips

I got a scindapsis exotica this last spring and its very slow growing but it was hardly rooted in the pot. Hopefully it’ll be big like yours in a few years 🤞🏻

I agree with all of those.. also my basic faves! I'd have to add tradescantia nanouk and callisia repens.. AND peperomia ripples (frost and pink lady!) .. they may be a step up from because they're a little more hard to find but still.. pretty basic and my FAVES!
