I'm super appreciative of this. Plant Burnout is absolutely a thing. I've got a full time job, two kids, a dog and a husband. It's not always easy to take care of all my plants. I've totally cut down a plant and put it in full hydro. That's a really great solution. AGREED! Thanks for the video Harli!

Some of us are parents to animals and babies, and have full time jobs, and other extra cariculars that prevent us from hovering over our plant babies all the time. Love these hacks! I've definitely suffered from plant burn out even with just 100 plants. I've since sold quite a few and only brought maybe 30 or so to my new house! Honestly selling them was my solution haha. But it makes me appreciate the plants I do have and happier to care for them!
These tips are actually so helpful they’re uncommon and maybe not for everyone but when you actually need a different option it’s so good to know you can do these things and they help!!
@Harli G When my friends ask me for advice on how to care for a growing collection, I always recommend grouping plants by the care they need until you really recognize them and get to know them better. ie put all your diva plants together that need to be checked often, put your easy ones together that you can kind of forget about, put your ones that need almost no water etc. Then you can care by group I call it :) (hope that makes sense. LOVE your videos!!)
@@HarliG I understand what it is to go through the ringer with skin care. Thanks for sharing though! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Krave.
You're soooo cute 😭😭 Back on topic haha I loved when you cut those leaves off of that Calathea Orbifolia! I actually had a Calathea Whitestar from last year, my absolute favorite plant! But when we went into winter, I wasn't yet equipped with a growth lamp, so the poor sucker was affected by that, but also spider mites 😫😫 all the leaves died back, but what was left was a green base. I actually abandoned this plant at some point lmao but the dude started growing back! I kept it because I fucking knew that the tiny green spot meant that it was still alive, and now it has two little leaves again. This method definitely works for some plants 👍👍
This gave me the best sigh of relief about how I’ve done this recently as I had to go out of town for 6 weeks for a family emergency and as you can imagine, I came home to some very sad plants. So many of them have done SHOCKINGLY well to major hacks!
I’ve felt it many many times. Almost every time I move I get so overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of them that I just want to sell them instead of go through the trouble of moving them. The best way I’ve found to combat that burnout is to bottom water more frequently so I don’t have to stress about them drying out and sometimes if the weather permits, just putting them outside for a bit makes it less crowded in the house and honestly they usually like it outside better. However I live in california where the weather is quite nice during the spring and very early summer so if you’re in a more hostile environment I would not suggest leaving them outside for too long. Love your videos harli and would looove to see a thrift shopping one!
Going through plant burnout right now! With it warming up so much, I just want to spend all of my free time outside & I’m noticing that my plants are getting a bit neglected. To make it easier on myself, I’ve been going through my collection and listing any of the ones I’m not that in love with for sale locally. It’s been thinning it down to a manageable number and it’s been a lot of fun making some money and seeing how thrilled people are to add things into their collection that no longer sparked joy for me. 💙
Yes plant burnout is definitely a thing and I can’t wait for your video about it. I’ve gone through it a lot in the past year or so and have noticed that when my depression gets really bad, I tend to have a sudden urge to get rid of all my plants and I’ll often neglect them for a while. I definitely have found that making my plant routine more simple has helped keep this a hobby and not a chore, as you say! Thanks for all the tips! I LOVE using terrariums/ greenhouses because like you said, plants in those need less frequent care so when my mental health isn’t peachy and I neglect my plants, they tend to be okay. I’ve also found that having plants in leca, moss, or pon has the same effect!

So I can totally identify with you when you cut back on the pothos. Love your mason jar and the full jar of pothos. I wish I was as confident as you, I was so darn guilty! You saved me! I'm free now!!! No more regrets. Plants are meant to make me HAPPY! Much prefer the stalks in water and enjoying changing water and waiting for it to push out roots and if it doesn't, all good. I have about 30 plants in my room right now and I've only started caring for plants 4 months ago.. I got a little too excited, still am, and I can't stop myself from buying more plants. I had my first real episode of a plant burnout last week and it was tough, even with the little amount I have now.
My 3 largest pothos (a golden, a jade and a marble) get a root prune every 2-3 years. Then I drop it back in a little lower in the basket and top dress with fresh soil. Every year they get a drastic hair cut, but not as drastic as Harli gave hers. I am just cutting above the areas that have dropped leaves over the winter from the dry heat. I generally root the cuttings for friends and family. I love these resilient and beautiful plants. As to burn-out I mostly keep snake plants and aroids. They can take some neglect when I am needing a day or two off to restore my energy. Sometimes I just sit and admire them and after a bit I want to get up and fuss over them. They are my "Super Prozac" cure for the blues.
I agree with you on cuttin yellow leaves. Sometimes I also cut some leaves that are looking Ok, but know in advance that they will die (because they are floppy) and I swear it bust up a plant to grow news shoots and leaves.
Hi Harli! This was very helpful. I cut back my brazil like you did the pothos and had the cuttings in water for over a year and loved looking at them that way. I gave them all to my daughter. I did find another one to take it's place that looked much better. Thank you for sharing!
i’m so glad you mentioned burnout😭 i didn’t know that was a thing, i’m glad i’m not the only one. i just got a spidermite infestation from a new plant, for the THIRD TIME in the past couple months. i love all my plants so much but sometimes they stress me out so much! i have so many and keeping up with them can be stressful!

I ordered some of those energy bars. I’m vegan and I’m always checking for caffeinated products to take to work for when I need a coffee. Love the video, thanks.
I just did the same thing that you did with the pothos with a dying tradescantia. Somhow, the tradescantias I bring back from the store never fare well in my environment, but as soon as I grew them back from props they grow insane.
One of your hacks that I never thought about it bringing up the humidity was sticking your water propagating plants in your cabinet. So smart you are! I know that you probably can't answer this due to your popularity but... For anyone that water propagates pothos does it make a difference how long your vine is? I recently tried maybe a 12 leaf vine and it would not grow roots. Maybe I was inpatient and nervous but after three weeks I ended up cutting them into smaller pieces. Loved this video thanks Harli for helping us all out.
Hello. You are awesome and so natural in all your videos. I’m a rookie with indoor plants 🌱 🪴. I’ve learn so much watching your videos. I laugh 😂 so much at the end when you say Bye!!! Cool. Thanks!!
We all just do the best we can. Being unrealistic with what we expect from ourselves leads to so much suffering and anxiety. I’m so glad you keep yourself grounded with your advice! Thank you! 🌱🌱🌱💓💓💓
I did the same thing with my calathea pinstripe! It was given to me by a friend and when I took it home the leaves just kept drying up and browning so I just continued to care for it the way i did with my other plants and let the leaves do what it was doing. When the new growth came out it adapted to my care so now i don’t use distilled water to water it, i only use water from the hose whenever i water all my plants 😀
Hey Harli! I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! I am a beginner houseplant owner and honestly didn't have much of a clue before stumbling on a few of your videos a few weeks ago. But I have learned so much from you and now I have an order into a local plant shop for more 🤪 Also wanted to say that I really appreciate your fearlessness when it comes to trying something different. I dropped my Calathea maranta (top side down...) today and all the leaves have been crushed - I thought it was a goner for sure but this video gives me hope that it can come back! 🤞🏼😬 Anyways thank you so much and keep doing what you're doing! 💚
I agree, I've been watching her second channel videos and she seems to be very busy producing content as well as the second baby. I hope that she is focusing on herself, but I was just curious
I really appreciate this video, I have used everyone of these and never thought that it was unpopular to do. I do what is easy and in my opinion efficient which keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. Good job!
Love your videos! ❤👍 Plant hacks:... I have a disability, so I like to try and make things easier for me. I love using those transparent saucers. Specially on hanging plants. Helps me to see when plant is thoroughly watered. And on plant which is on higher shelves - I bottom water them in those saucers ( when plant stops absorbing water - I use turkey baster to suc it out, so plant is not sitingin the water). I don't use cover pots, so I don't need to pick the plant every time I water it, to check is there water sitting in the bottom. 😘
I sincerely appreciate this channel. Thank You for not being one of the millions of TikTok girls all dressed up and looking for attention. Dig the vibes.

Cool. Thanks!!
Definitely would love a thrift video for plant supplies! Also a regular thrifting video would be cool too 💁🏼♀️
Totally wanna see a thrifty plant vid. I’ve been on the hunt for some interesting thrifted vessels for plants!
Yes I've had plant burn out and sometimes I get a little crazy thanks for sharing
Any care tips/hacks are appreciated, love your channel 🌿
We all just do the best we can. Being unrealistic with what we expect from ourselves leads to so much suffering and anxiety. I’m so glad you keep yourself grounded with your advice! Thank you!
🌱🌱🌱💓💓💓
“Did you just hear both my knees crack?” 😅😅😅😭😭😭😭 I felt that. Lmao
I feel so free after watching this video! I was getting burnt out with my plants and I just went around my house cutting them up haha
I won't lie, my stomach dropped when you clipped that orbifolia to the soil! I was expecting you to just trim off the brown bits 😅
Hey Harli! I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! I am a beginner houseplant owner and honestly didn't have much of a clue before stumbling on a few of your videos a few weeks ago. But I have learned so much from you and now I have an order into a local plant shop for more 🤪
Also wanted to say that I really appreciate your fearlessness when it comes to trying something different. I dropped my Calathea maranta (top side down...) today and all the leaves have been crushed - I thought it was a goner for sure but this video gives me hope that it can come back! 🤞🏼😬 Anyways thank you so much and keep doing what you're doing! 💚
Plant chore videos are my fav!

You spoke of a possibly opening a plant shop, is that still the plan? Love your content ❤️
That’s what I’ve been wondering too!
i think she’s still growing plants in her tent! and trying to improve her mental health before officially starting it :)
I was thinking with baby 2 on the way how busy she would be. I wish her and Ryan success in all things and good health to the 4 of them.
I agree, I've been watching her second channel videos and she seems to be very busy producing content as well as the second baby. I hope that she is focusing on herself, but I was just curious
What is her second Channel?
Thanks to you I am obsessed with liquid dirt!! Much love to you thank you for sharing your stuff with us plenty folk ♥️♥️
I really appreciate this video, I have used everyone of these and never thought that it was unpopular to do. I do what is easy and in my opinion efficient which keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. Good job!
Love your videos! ❤👍
Plant hacks:...
Yes to thrift trip for plants things! That’s my plan for today 🤩
