I love listening to plant TH-camrs go through their burnout journeys, but you are the Burnout Queen, describing so beautifully the psychological process from obsession to burnout, with the goal of taking back your life but integrating your plant hobby seamlessly into it, always having a few beautifully cared for plants that enhance your life, in the ways you described.

I’m so happy I found you at the start of my journey in caring for houseplants. Your honesty and approach to plants is a breath of fresh air. The connection you have with the plants you choose to keep goes deeper than just “aesthetics” or what’s trending (which honestly can’t be said for a lot of plant influencers I come across). Your honesty and vulnerability to share the mental strain plant keeping can sometimes have, especially when other areas of life are requiring more of your energy, whether temporarily or permanently, has helped me tremendously in my own life struggles and ups and downs. With all that said, I may have initially came to your channel for the plants and care advice, but I’ve stayed all these years because of you. Turns out, we share a lot more interests than just plants. Thank you for being you and for keeping it real and being true to yourself! ❤
One thing that helped me with downsizing was combining succulents into arrangements. I had 20+ and now I’m down to 4 arrangements. Much easier, and pretty to look at too!
By the sounds of it, you've already done a lot of healing. Has to be for you, not others. And you have to enjoy it! Life has enough chores and things we have to force ourself to do. Our hobbies and love should never add to that!!! Ive loved seeing the journey. You seem to be getting back to finding yourself. Embrace you. You're amazing just as you are Harli!
I find less than 100 plants is doable. Not only as a collector but, a wife and mother. I used to try and get below 50 but inevitably I rise above it. Right now at 70 and it feels small. Shout out to the buono's!
I think I'm sitting around 50, but I'd like to downsize and I have been slowly removing large, care intensive plants and keeping cuttings /smaller plants that I find easier to care for. It's all about figuring out what works *for you* 😊
I needed that BYYYYYE at the end🥲 get rid of whatever you have to. We’re here for youuuuuu and your plant journey/life. I’ll watch you repot the same aloe for years. Much love!!!! The overconsumption of what everyone else has on social media really affects our collection. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m with you on the sentimental plants. I have keepsakes of either indoor or outdoor plants from about 5 or 7 friends and family who have passed on,and they mean the world to me.🥰 My most precious plant is a Kafir lime tree that we bought for our eldest son and he passed away 4 years ago.💔 he was an amazing cook and did a lot of Thai cooking,so instead of me constantly buying him Kafir leaves every time that he was using them,I bought a tree, you could pick them fresh whenever he needed them. It started fruiting after he died, and I baby that tree with my life. When I saw your dancing bone cactus in one of your videos,i remembered that I had one growing somewhere in a mixed pot of succulents, straight after finishing your video,I went out found it and rescued a small, barely alive stem and put it into nice new soil, brought it inside under grow lights and it’s doing amazing,so that’s a reminder of you Harli.❤ Love how you pair your plants with the right pots. Hugs 💚🪴🌿🫂
You have the best personality of all the plant TH-camrs by far! Ive been watching your videos since you were pregnant with your youngest son. I always smile watching your videos!! Keep it up Harli!
Oh I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you’re hanging in there okay, grief is something else through the holidays. Thinking of you & thank you for spending some of your time with me ❤
Maybe it's your cold, or maybe I'm hormonal, but this video felt kind of heavy. I'm in no way complaining, but I wanted to send some love. I hope you're doing alright. I know this season is hard for a lot of people. Love and light to you, Harli. ❤
Your plants look pretty and healthy. I like the story of your grandmother. My mother loved plants and she would give me cuttings from them. She once had a plant with purple leaves. She gave me a cutting and I told her it looked like a vegetable. After she passed I loved the plant because it was pretty and reminded me of Mom. The plant eventually died. My mother taught me so much about plants. I wish she was here so I could tell her that.
I learned plants through both of my parents though they were more into outdoors plants. Neither of them felt they belonged indoors. So sorry, not sorry. I’m Keeping indoor plants.
Harli, I would LOVE downsizing content. I feel like a lot of us struggle with buying/plant addiction. And knowing what others are doing with their collections helps me out. Love this content and I’ll always be here to watch your videos, plants or no plants!
Great for you that you are prioriitzing you, Harli! Of course the sentimental plants stay, and the ones you are bonded with and have had so many years together. Loved this!
When I began collecting I lived alone and then Covid had us all at home and my obsession exploded. I’m sure I still have over a hundred, only now I’m working more than 40 hours and live with my fiancee and children. Life is DIFFERENT. I don’t have the time to care for them, and I have so much else to do. I want to downsize and it’s so hard to let them go, and honestly to find homes. Thank you for sharing, it makes me feel better. This spring I would also like to get down to a small collection. ❤
I busted off the entire top of my ponytail palm and she was BIG. I just continued to water as usual and she grew from the top again like it didnt happen. I also love my plants who have survived me and my nomadic lifestyle. Also prune that Thanksgiving cactus heavily to encourage more flowering points.
I think the best thing about house plant keeping is that your plants choices would not be my choices but I love the stories behind the sentimental reasons why you chose them.
I'm preparing for a major surgery and coming to terms with my need to look at what plants are worth my energy post surgery. This is helping remind me it's okay and healthy to move on from plants that don't serve us.
Yes I have always had only plants that did well in my home’s natural light. Never owned a grow light. They make a plant seem almost artificial to me. I have beautiful plants and love my hobby. Donna
I love this! I think so many of us that had a large collection have gone through this. I have a fraction of what I use to have and it took quite awhile for me to realize which plants I LOVED and brought me joy vs the ones I felt I needed to keep for whatever reason (maybe they were hard to find or expensive etc) It’s been so nice and EASY just having the ones that make me happy- and honestly most of them are common…but quirky 😊❤
My downsizing is more...condensing. I'm trying to put my duplicates together. Included in my sentimental plants, are ones I've gotten from your Mom. One being a cutting she sent me with a very sweet card when I was going through chemo last year❤. Its very special to me. Your Mom is a special lady.
I have watched you for the last few years and have learned so much from you. That also makes me understand how time consuming a large plant collection is (why else would I need help and watch 😂). I have downsized to about 25. I had an aunt pass a few weeks ago that had a plant room and I did inherit two of hers but her daughter knew I’d love them and she’d kill them lol. Good for you for knowing your limits
I losty maternal grandma in 2021 when I was pregnant with my daughter, she was 91. ❤️ Today my paternal grandma is going back home to Mexico and it's hard to see her go, she's 90. 🥹 Your grandma talk makes me emotional, but so happy.
My Aloe plant I grew from a tiny baby is now HUGE and she puts of so many babies for me to gift to people. It brings me such joy and is my fav plant I have
Loved the honesty of the video, I have been debating investing in more grow lights but I also feel that sunlight is so important so I'm going to do the same and downsize a bit and prioritise giving my favourite plants light and care and not over extending myself
I have been feeing so bad about my collection this past year. I moved, and since then haven't had such a grad collection as before. Thank you for reminding me that it's not about being grand, it's about how you personally relate to each plant! I guess I struggle with how I used to be "the plant guy" and now I don't feel that way. But that's just being affected about how you think you're being perceived, which is not what matters! I also made a little side hustle so all the plants that died I felt like I was losing money, so again, a beautiful reminder of why we got plants in the first place
I can relate a lot because I am in a similar spot with my plant journey. I started collecting in early 2019 and it became an obsession. When I was already growing kind of tired of the maintenance, especially due to the unfavourable conditions for plants in my home, the prices for houseplants dropped massively so I got sort of sucked back in. But my motivation faded and my plants suffered because of that. I am now disposing of unhappy plants, and plants that make me unhappy (they're not always the same). My goal is to keep what sparks joy and be a good carer for these. I think about 30 pots are sufficient for me personally, as long as at least half of those are easy care, never get pests kind of plants. For reference, at the most I had 112 pots, right now I'm at 50😮 Excited for your de-stash, something to look forward to in the New Year :) happy holidays ✨
You gotta do what you Gotta do. There is one plant that I fell in love with and I find that it’s part of you. It’s almost like a piece of jewel and the fact that you like funky stuff it was so fitting and I’m shocked that it wasn’tincluded in your keeping list. Euphorbia Lacteal Cristata that Plant is a piece of jewel and I honestly whenever I think about it, it’s the thing that makes me think of you.
I’m obsessed with your strawberry ice syngonium! I work at a plant store and see them all the time and have one myself, but I have never been able to find one that high color. So pretty!
I have 9 that are my due or die plants that no matter what my week brings those are my leaf babies lol. This was a fun vid I made tea and relaxed with this. Thank you!
Love those choices for top favorites! My favorite plants are the ones that can tolerate some neglect here and there bc sometimes life gets in the way!! 😅 Happy Holidays to you and your family!! ❤💚
I Got into syngoniums because of your white butterfly, because I fell in LOVE with the way it was trailing 😍 Also, I love your story of the aloe, and I love the way you get that “I have the ability to turn things around if I decide to do” energy everytime you see that plant ❤️
I love your plant favourites, Harli. Thank you for sharing them with us and being so open expressing your feelings and personal sentiments☺️ I think there’s something so special about realizing how our plant collections evolve with us, and it is absolutely OK to shift our preferences as we grow, and to embrace those changes. Some plants that we used to obsess with before may not fulfill us like they once did, and there’s nothing wrong with that❤ The same goes with letting go of plants that may no longer resonate with us or that simply overwhelm us instead of bringing us joy☺️
I’ve been feeling similarly about my plant collection. I’ve wanted to downsize, but have put it off for several months. I love your goal of giving your loved plants, the care they deserve. That hit home. Happy holidays! 💚
I can't wait for the destash. I loooove decluttering videos and even just this year I feel like you have put much more intention into your plants. If you can really cut it back and make it less about the virality of the plants or the stress of feeling obligated to take care of them. I feel like your relationship to your plants is sort of how I feel about getting rid of clothes. Like I won't throw out clothes I will try to repurpose them or sell them. but then I can get so stressed cause I have all these projects to do, less space, and it takes away the fun the creativity of repurposing....so I think the mindset is just to literally get rid of things that are too stressful, don't bring you joy. You would probably know better but give away the plants the easiest way possible for you just to be done with it.
Thank you, Harli for keeping it 100. My collection isn't half as big but I've been feeling the same recently. Here's to prioritizing ourselves in 2025!! ❤❤
I have downsized my collection again this year each winter is just harder to manage my plants. I also only like to rely on natural light and plants in my home environment. I am owning more plants that are easier to take care of and manage and hardy plants too. Also focus on big statement plants in my home too. Not having small plants much anymore. I am getting back in Sanservia’s they are such great plants can take on neglect and less watering too.
Your jade is 🤌 chefs kiss. I wish mine was as lush and bushy like yours. Mine is pretty big but, it’s a challenge keeping it pruned in a good way. She gets crazy sometimes and has to get cut back, she is at least 15 years old!
Man... I got rid of my aloe, just cut and froze the flanks this summer. I couldn't get mine to look as gorgeous as yours with my lighting up here.Plus, your planter is to die for!!
2 years ago, I had about 80 plants. A lot of them were climbing Philodendron and the mosspoles were so much work. Long story short: I downsized to easy maintenance plants and I use the spots I have for plants as a container. If they don't fit, they can't stay. Also putting most of them in pon has helped a lot. Long story: Back then we wanted to go on a 3 week trip in the summer of I wanted to put my plants on pon, so I could leave the plants alone that long during summer. I downsized quite a lot, the Philodendron, alocasia, anthurium, etc were doing great on pon. Then I really downsized over the last year (also really decluttered the house a lot on 2024). So now I have 26. I used to have over 25 species of Philodendron. I now only have the brasil in a hanging pot😂 everything that needed a pole, is gone. Almost everything is either in pon, or a plant that doesn't need to be watered weekly (like a ZZ) and they have to fit in the space I have for them. So most of my collection now, is Anthurium, Alocasia and some generic ones like a coffee plant, hanging Scindapsus pictus, hanging brasil, a Sansevieria, a ZZ raven and a Stromanthe magicstar. Currently in first trimester of my first pregnancy and I feel like 💩. And I'm so thankful for not having to water 50+ plants and having all the extra clutter I had to take care of before I went through the whole house last year.
I’ve been with u for some years now - since I first became a plant parent! Still enjoy your videos. Syngonium and begonias are beautiful but they don’t seem to like me🫤 I have a pretty big assorted collection but over the last year really got into succulents. I had to set boundaries too.
I love my aloe hybrid. No clue what it actually is. Bought it at Home Depot and she flowers occasionally. She's so neat and cute, and lives in a mug shaped pot! Love her so much.
There's something magical about your Glauca but HELL I looked to buy one and they're so expensive ! So glad it's staying. I'm going to downsize too, because many will die over this Winter and I'd sooner gift them to people who live in warm houses ! 💚
I love this 😍 I love syngonium too lately my white butterfly has really white leaves still has green but mostly a white color it’s so pretty! My mojito is popping off too! So easy going love it
I loved this video Harli and your reasoning behind your favorites. I definitely get sentimental about plants especially the pups to my snake plants LOL even though they arent anything crazy special
You’re inspiring me to get rid of some plants lol. I have about 50-60. I’ve found that’s really my max but I know I have quite a few plants that I just don’t love and they are chilling and you know that don’t need to take up the space they are
You look so tiny with the philodendron on the table your plants are beautiful i myself need to down size it's becoming very stressful for me to try and keep up and now its winter its just to much ❤
You are so cute! I really enjoy watching you & listening to you gush over your plants..your conversational style is very engaging, thank you! but I need to know, what do you do to your philodendrons? To all of your plants to make them grow so beautifully but especially your philodendron Brazil hanging there on the shelf! And the Jose B.? Absolutely my favorite plants; I am still learning & we are not quite there, YET. Please, worlds of wisdom 🙏🏻 and keep doing what you do. Btw, I bet your a fun mom 🤍
I got some fish tanks just to condense my propagations and I’ll never go back. I set them up walstad-ish but with filters running and throw some hardy little fish in there and the plants explode and the fish swim through the roots and I never have to water plants, I just change 25% of my tank water once a month. Fish aren’t for everyone but I’ve had tanks with just snails in there too and the plants still thrive, very low maintenance, and I use the old water during water changes to water all of my potted plants and they’ve exploded since.
I am in the exact place I have just eliminated 25 plants and promised my self not to propagate any more plants. If i even concider bringing a new one in, one must go. And i am completely okay with it. I still have more to eliminate. Your jade is perfect in every way
I started collecting plants in 2018 before the pandemic. But it got to the point where I was just collecting because I saw what someone else had. Just collecting indiscriminately. I got up near 80 and slacked on the care. I’ve still got some that don’t bring me joy. I don’t know. What to do with them. I’m not a member of any groups, have no Planty friends. So I keep watering them anyway. I’m down to 68 low but now I’m collecting ficus and hoya. And because there are way more Hoyas. That’s where I’m focusing my collection. But Gonna have to stop “collecting”. Some day.
I know I probably seem weird, but I love watching your content. I recently met (videos) your first 2 absolutely adorable boys, but curious about #3. girl or boy? does the baby look like the other 2 boys? I recently began buying many many plants and began propagating. Your content is awesome! I love watching people that come across real and not fake. Thank you for your hard work.
I do love your Jade plant, the Aloe plant I don’t remember seeing. I know you have a bunch of starter plants in basement. I haven’t gotten Aloe yet. I have about 35 plants but I’m handicapped and up in age. I try to do certain plants on one day and others another day. I do have some cactus and succulents which makes it easier. I have ran out of space for all my Buddies. Now will you be selling? Think I am a little late Good luck ❤Dot
I just wanna know how to get rid of plants that you don't want anymore, no one else around you wants them either to buy or as a gift, and they're perfectly healthy so throwing them away seems wrong? I'm struggling 😭
Don't feel guilty. Thank the plant for being in your life and then gently place it in the trash can. You must prioritize your mental health and decluttering. It's hard at first, but it will get easier. It must be done. Take care of you. Don't waste time or energy. Discard it, respectfully.
Hi 👋🏼 Merry Christmas 🎄 can you please send me the names of the Plants that you shown you didn’t put a list or where you got them can’t find some of them that you mentioned thank you for the video name.💚
I don’t have as many plants as you, but I’m also hoping to clear some out so I have the energy to care for the ones I really love. Are you going to keep your grow tent?
@@kirbypriov I’ll keep the tent for future needs, but it will be down for a while. We will be finishing our basement so there won’t be a spot for it at this house

Tears in my eyes when hearing you talk about your grandma❤ She was so fortunate to be loved by you. Keeping her memory alive is so beautiful. Big hug.

You have taught me so much, from 300+ plants to now. I have lowered my collection as well, and not only is it less cluttered but my mind is clearer!!!
@@miriamjasmine6433 aw that makes me so happy to hear ❤️ I’m hoping for a more clear mind also 🤞🤞
Knowing your limits is wisdom for sure. With so many varieties, its hard to come to terms. I'm finding my way as well. 😊 Thanks for sharing
You’re a real one 🙏🏻 and we love you for that!
Thank you for being you, and for including us on some of your journey🥰 we don’t want the love for plants to die, so we must evolve❤️

So pretty!
Obsessed with your aloe and your jade! They're stunning. Every time I try both of those types, I rot them out immediately 😅🫠
Remember they are desert plants. They can go a long time without water.
@chomama1628 oh I know. I still somehow manage it. 😅
I Got into syngoniums because of your white butterfly, because I fell in LOVE with the way it was trailing 😍
Also, I love your story of the aloe, and I love the way you get that “I have the ability to turn things around if I decide to do” energy everytime you see that plant ❤️
This is a really overwhelming time of year so I totally understand how you feel! Keep what sparks joy ✨🥰
Yay I needed this video for a pick me up today! Giving me motivation to water my plants 😁
I love your vulnerability in this video❤and that pot the aloe is in is so gorgeous. Happy Holidays and New Year
Long story:
Back then we wanted to go on a 3 week trip in the summer of I wanted to put my plants on pon, so I could leave the plants alone that long during summer.
I am going to start vlogging, and you are an inspiration.
I love messing with the plants wnd trying to figure out there care. It beings me zen when i tend to them. I do a few at a time
Each plant and its pot pairing!! So cute!
Love hearing you talk about your plants your fun and entertaining❤
So easy going love it
Girl, take care of yourself. Those who love you we understand and get it. Just take care of your beautiful self, we will be here ready to ride.❤❤❤❤❤
I literally enjoy every video you make! I am in shock about how many plants you want to keep! But also I get it!
Ahhhh I would never be able to do that I feel . I collect Hoyas and love them all! Even your Hoyas haha
I loved this video Harli and your reasoning behind your favorites. I definitely get sentimental about plants especially the pups to my snake plants LOL even though they arent anything crazy special
Oh I am so excited about the downsizing content! 😍
My Hosea Bueno did not look like yours without a moss pole. The leaves got smaller as it grew, so it’s no longer with me. 😅
I have a really similar begonia and I have to chop it once a season. They get top heavy really fast!
You’re inspiring me to get rid of some plants lol. I have about 50-60. I’ve found that’s really my max but I know I have quite a few plants that I just don’t love and they are chilling and you know that don’t need to take up the space they are
I have so many grow lights in the plants in my living room. Two plant stands with 7 grow lights. Two I’ll take away when the sun comes back.
Love to see you happy
Your jade is heirloom worthy! 🙌🏽
Love this content. I’ve downsized my collection too. It’s too time consuming.
It is so much easier to maintain a smaller collection!❤
My aloe vera was one of the plants that survived my pregnancy neglect 😂 love them so much and they are so hardy!!!
@@spankylewis2010 so sturdy!! Those are the kind of plants I need these days 🥵
@@HarliG 💯
Looking forward to hearing more about the destash. I need the inspiration. 💚
Love your jade plant 🥳I have two . I recently trimmed it way down . I’m trying to get a thicker stalk. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you! I’ve been wanting to trim mine too, but makes me scared haha
@ I was scared also . 😄
@ but it worked and it’s so pretty now .
Beautiful and healthy plants
Thank you so much! I'm so happy with how they've grown.
My syngoniums are SO susceptible to mealy bugs! But I love them!!!
You look so tiny with the philodendron on the table your plants are beautiful i myself need to down size it's becoming very stressful for me to try and keep up and now its winter its just to much ❤
When you popped that big jade pot on the table, it looked like a giant coffee mug and now I want a giant coffee mug planter
That's an amazing Jade! Hoping my little one will eventually get there!
It'll get there with plenty of love and sunshine! 😁☀️
I am in the exact place I have just eliminated 25 plants and promised my self not to propagate any more plants. If i even concider bringing a new one in, one must go. And i am completely okay with it. I still have more to eliminate. Your jade is perfect in every way
I have like 30 plants and think that’s a good number 😊❤.
“A total time suck” LOL! 😆
I found it easy to downsize when I was honest about the plants I love, and the plants I just "want". I love my hoyas. Everything else was a fad!
But
Gonna have to stop “collecting”.
I don't think Harli has a third baby. She has said she wants another one however!
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me thank you. I appreciate you watching & enjoying my videos ❤❤❤
aw love all the plants you’re keeping and appreciate you showing love to the standelyana i feel like in general they’re so underrated
Land Before Time! What was it about those rolled up star leaves that made them so dang special?
Oh wow, 25 plants? I understood right? But these will be without the ones for the shop, right?
I do love your Jade plant, the Aloe plant I don’t remember seeing. I know you have a bunch of starter plants in basement. I haven’t gotten Aloe yet. I have about 35 plants but I’m handicapped and up in age. I try to do certain plants on one day and others another day. I do have some cactus and succulents which makes it easier. I have ran out of space for all my Buddies.
Now will you be selling? Think I am a little late
Good luck ❤Dot
I just wanna know how to get rid of plants that you don't want anymore, no one else around you wants them either to buy or as a gift, and they're perfectly healthy so throwing them away seems wrong? I'm struggling 😭
I will take one. My sister always gives me propagation and it makes me happy to see them grow.
Fb market place, buy nothing groups
SAMEEEE
Don't feel guilty. Thank the plant for being in your life and then gently place it in the trash can. You must prioritize your mental health and decluttering. It's hard at first, but it will get easier. It must be done. Take care of you. Don't waste time or energy. Discard it, respectfully.
Don't throw them away. Put for FREE on you local market place group.@cyc7lops
Loved this 🪴🦋💚
Hi 👋🏼 Merry Christmas 🎄 can you please send me the names of the Plants that you shown you didn’t put a list or where you got them can’t find some of them that you mentioned thank you for the video name.💚
