I just found your channel and i'm so thankful! In two weeks I'm planning on doing a Oregon and Northern California rockfish redemption tour. I grew up in NorCal and always loved to fish from shore but I pretty much sucked at it. I've lived in Eastern Arizona for over 20 years now. Thanks to TH-cam and your channel I've got the itch to do an overland / fishing adventure down the coast. Thank you so much for the tootleedge! I'm going to start a fresh Virgin youtube channel just for our adventures. Our = Me and my young Siberian Husky.
Awesome 😎👍 Thanks for the links ,I picked up some Seagar leader material $5.00 less right now On the STS 40LB . That's my all around fav🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟💣💥💥💥💥💥
Truly LOVE your videos..... With salmon season opening on the coast (WA May 15), do you ever fish for salmon from the jetties? Give it a think.... Truly appreciate your time, and talent putting these together...!
My 2 go to reels if a guys trying to get a decent smooth reel without braking the bank are the Pfluger presidential line...or the Ceymar line of reels. Nick I wish you the best and tight lines to ya brother
haha this was definitely a crazy day on the jetty. I would never have expected the day to turn out like this.. this is one to remember. I'm pretty sure i will never see a day like this again, but that won't stop me from trying :)
Nick, a few comments: 1) Sooooooo jealous ... I mean ... _Bro, I'm happy for you!_ 2) Consider mil-spec ECWCS gortex pants. Inexpensive, light, tough, warm, dry, easy to take off if you get too hot ... 3) Isn't it amazing that you had your 12' rod on the day you went to hog heaven? Imagine if you had a Celilo ML steelhead rod? 4) For God's sake, lad, step away from the computer and go put batteries in that scale right now! 5) Want to hear about my 1.25 lb surf perch? It was a frisky little thing, let me tell you ... Great video as always! :-) .
Love to see this video after spending a day and a half on a jette with no luck. I am learning from your videos, had some of those Shad storm bait in my tackle but never used it. Thanks for the video!
This was such an amazing day of jetty fishing! The rocks can get pretty sketchy in some areas and so can the waves. When it comes to getting started, it’s all about baby steps. Figure out how things work with the conditions and tides and start stepping up your game from there.
This was a lot of fun! and yes those rocks can be very slippery!!! i have to admit that i have fallen a time or two... luckily i haven't hurt myself yet. Thanks for watching
Thank you... haha when i got that fish in my hands and actually got a good look at it i was thinking WTF? I couldn't tell if it was deformed or just a super old wound that has healed.... most these fish should be about 20yrs old... i'm sure they been through it.. i was so stoked to see some fish this big
haha i set down some of these fillets next to a couple "average sized" fillets and started busting up.. the top shelf of my freezer are these 6 fish lol... so much meat! this was such an epic day!
Holy crap Nick! That’s some action! Hopefully I pick up one or two on my next trip. I’m going to hunt elk in Oregon this fall, so scouting and fishing is on the agenda. I’ll be out in three weeks to a month, good luck if you get out again!
haha you know it man.... come may 22nd i will definitely be out on the rivers more.. i haven't fished that river yet for some reason, im gonna have to check it out.. hope you've been well bro, hit me up and let's go fish sometime
What would be nice bro if you brought your measuring tape and a weighing scale guys would like to know what you're catching and how big it's a shame that you didn't bring it would just be a plus for you and us keep fishing everybody enjoys your show
I love your videos man keep up the good work I catch Black rock fish down here in California off the rocks but nothing that big I’m going to try some of those storms swim baits you use
Thank you.. man i still want to get down there and fish.. it will happen one of these days as i make my way further south.. Give those baits a shot and let me know how they work for you!
Thank you, i've caught one ling with them when i was intentionally just basically dragging it along the bottom, but that's it, the rest of the time i have been fishing them a bit higher in the water since that's where a lot of these fish seemed to be... just had a guy send me a pic of a nice ling he just caught with the bunker hanging out of it's lip... i know they will work, you just gotta get it to the ling!
Wow that was amazing seeing you catch those massive hogs out of the Pacific Ocean , I honestly believe the fishing gods had your back that day with those huge black cods .😀😀😀😀😀 Definitely put that lure in a glass case or safe place .
This was such a crazy day.. just being able to catch one would have made my day, but to have caught that many was just magical. I can't believe that one swimbait did so much damage... it's hanging close to my computer where i do a lot of work, anytime i see it it puts a smile on my face.. that was a day i will remember forever
I hear ya.. i'm usually pretty good with my timing between sets but any hiccup leaves me in a bad spot longer than i was planning to be, which in turn can be disastrous. I do my best to stay safe but i would never for a second underestimate the power of the ocean.. thanks for looking out
Awesome fishing today! I like how you keep the tags of the lures in the tackle box. What kind of boots do you wear that make you like a mountain goat on those wet rocks?
Thank you, i appreciate it.. i love what i do and love knowing that others are actually watching and enjoying these videos as well as sharing the experience with me
I almost went with the 12’ and may still pick one up. This video kinda shows how a longer, more powerful rod can help you out a lot in some conditions. I could only imagine trying to fish here with a shorter and weaker rod. That 12’ will be good for surf fishing as well!
@@AnglingAddictsPNW They work great I can't count the times it's helped me get fish unhooked when they're stuck in rocks I actually have 2-12 foot rods the first one I ordered online from Rockaway and paid a lot of money for it a couple weeks later I realized bi-mart in Florence Oregon had them in stock ha ha ha and I got it for like 75$ lololo Most bi-marts only stock the 10'6" but they will order one it takes a couple days to come in

The butt of the rod is definitely long and I’ve had the same problem at times haha. $75 is a really good deal! Bi-mart is cool like that. They only carried the shorter version of the pedal drive kayak I wanted. 2 days later I had the one I wanted.
Love your videos - especially the surf and jetty fishing! Question: What are you wearing for boots? I'm looking for a pair of boots I can get to knock around on the jetty, so good traction on wet surfaces. HI there from NZ. Wow. Amazing fishing. What is the gear and tackle you are using? Your right about being rough on the rod. You are rough on the fish too...IMO.
@@AnglingAddictsPNW, you know I'm joking, right? ... as I was with my other comments. (Often humor gets lost over the internet.) Anyway, know that I'm probably your biggest fan. I'm just off to perch fish out front before heading up to my parents.

Damn you’re absolutely killing it out there! Are you getting in on the shad run? The low water didn’t seem to have any effect on them for my spot. LOL, it gets to the point where you have to just hold your net in one hand because you don’t get a chance to set it down.
I've been pretty lucky recently that's for sure.. the conditions for this day were pretty rare and im pretty sure that set this day up to be a good one.. i don't think i will see a day of jetty fishing like this again with such big fish... was sure fun though... and one to remember. No shad yet this season, i usually try to stock up but my freezer is already full!! pretty crazy for this early in the season. I still need to get out and find a springer or two... It's crazy how many shad are in the water... my first shad fishing experience was insane!! i love the nonstop action!
@@AnglingAddictsPNW You should try out a fresh fillet of shad if you haven’t yet. It is incredible. I tried it for the first time last night and was amazed. My wife tried to eat it all before I could have a bite. The bones are so thin they soften up with a good cooking and you don’t notice them. Everyone here in the west always said they weren’t good because too many bones and oily. Now I find out they’ve been a delicacy on the East coast forever.
There are a few different ways but it can still be tricky.. the two that i use most are looking at the base of their dorsal fins.. Black rockfish have black spots all over them, whereas the blue rockfish don't have spots on their dorsal fin. Also, a black rockfish has a mouth more like a largemouth bass and there is a little nob at the end of their lower lip.. one that can be harder to tell is by where the back of their mouth/jaw is located in correlation to their eyes. A black rockfish's jaw extends just beyond the eye and a blue rockfish's jaw stops right about the middle of the eye... just a couple ways, but like i said, it can be tricky
If you are ever in Oregon and want a fishing partner lemme know! I’d love to do some jetty fishing and learn from the best! Went out over the weekend along southern Oregon coast but kinda new to Oregon coastal fishing 😂
Most of the time I limit how long I am out, I’d rather cut a trip short than have fish that have been sitting out too long.. as you can see in the video, I wait to start keeping them and most these fish were caught within a couple hours.. but my normal method is to bleed them out quick and then every so often I dip them in the water to keep them moist, then they go straight to my cooler filled with ice
I've never had a day like this since this day, and i fish all over the place. I catch about the same amount regardless of which side i'm on, and plenty of days of not catching anything. It's easier for me to shoot uninterrupted videos where there are less people so i will go to that side when i see the other side is pretty busy. In my honest opinion, there is nothing special about the north jetty, both sides fish about the same on any given day. Thanks for watching, good luck out there!
a lot of the time i will just get them from one of the local fishing shops (which i won't name considering how everyone has been buying these things up) but when i want quantity i just get them online from amazon... i have prime, so the price and simplicity of getting them is pretty nice
Nick, a 12' rod starts getting pretty heavy as the day wears on, doesn't it? Sometimes after a long day of fishing with my surf rod, my arm can be pretty stiff.
i enjoyed doing those but in the long run they become dead, irrelevant videos over time and that isn't good for youtube analytics.. i will definitely be doing more salmon and steelhead fishing but this fishery is just too much fun... and after a fairly poor winter run, i needed to get out and actually catch some fish... i appreciate the support!
@@AnglingAddictsPNW of course brother! You video's taught me a lot when I was first getting into salman/steelhead fishing. I really didn't know much about reading the water and stuff or where to go. It was nice seeing someone catch fish throwing metal at them. That was always my preferred choice too! Our fisheries are going to struggle for a little while after the few really hot summers and the fire's! Hopefully odfw can figure something out soon!
haha right?! Just another reason i love jetty fishing.. every day is a new day and you never know what to expect.. could be good, could be bad, but i never would have expected to see a day like this.. one or two big fish? sure, but over a dozen is simply just crazy.. I dropped fish 15 in the rocks so it never made it on film.. i've been chasing these conditions but unfortunately the conditions this day were pretty rare.. i've managed to hook a couple here and there but nothing like the fishing on this day... 2 ling would have topped the cake.... but carrying 6 fish on a long walk was bad enough lol
oh man i was so stoked to find such nice fish! I like incoming just because i feel like i snag less and lose less gear for some reason but i don't have a preference. It all depends on location and conditions for me
awesome, let me know how they work for you... i'm sure the will potentially catch more fish than some of the other baits.. but fishing with confidence is key, if you have that, the bait doesn't matter. GOOD LUCK!!

Where do you get you swim baits
a lot of the time i will just get them from one of the local fishing shops (which i won't name considering how everyone has been buying these things up) but when i want quantity i just get them online from amazon... i have prime, so the price and simplicity of getting them is pretty nice
Is that Tillamook or Newport??
Splash!
Nick, a 12' rod starts getting pretty heavy as the day wears on, doesn't it? Sometimes after a long day of fishing with my surf rod, my arm can be pretty stiff.
Oh man YES!!! that is a lot of rod but I love it.. and yarding in those fish didn’t help lol
Which jetty where you at?
I do kind of miss your weekly river report though, but much respect for ocean fishing!
i enjoyed doing those but in the long run they become dead, irrelevant videos over time and that isn't good for youtube analytics.. i will definitely be doing more salmon and steelhead fishing but this fishery is just too much fun... and after a fairly poor winter run, i needed to get out and actually catch some fish... i appreciate the support!
What tide?
Dang. Just dang.
haha right?!
Man those are some tanks!!! Do you like fishing incoming or outgoing tides?
oh man i was so stoked to find such nice fish! I like incoming just because i feel like i snag less and lose less gear for some reason but i don't have a preference. It all depends on location and conditions for me
Where ist the place ?
Hey man I took your recommendation and cashed out on a bunch of Stormed Wildeye shad, I'll let you know how they work, I have high hopes.
Ceymar C 55 would be my guess
Sorry I was meaning that for Nicholas
awesome, let me know how they work for you... i'm sure the will potentially catch more fish than some of the other baits.. but fishing with confidence is key, if you have that, the bait doesn't matter. GOOD LUCK!!
YEP, i'm sold on that reel now.. i really have no complaints
15 is the limit?
