    Episode 127
Disney's Aladdin for the Sega Genesis was the THIRD best selling game for the system, with only Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 selling more copies! This success is even more impressive considering that there was a VERY different Aladdin game released at the same time for the Super Nintendo. In the Nintendo vs Sega console wars, Aladdin would be one of the most competitive battles!
So how did this game get made, and which version was better? In today's episode we'll find out, and then we'll dive deep into the gameplay where we'll learn:
    * The best way to complete ALL ten stages!
    * The SECRET of the ROOFTOP SKIP shortcut!
    * How to find TONS of hidden 1-UPS!
    * The SECRET CODE for a stage select, invincibility, and more!
    * The best way to survive the ABU BONUS STAGES!
    * How to SKIP the Shiva Monkey Boss in the Cave of Wonders!
    * The best way to defeat EVERY BOSS, even JAFAR himself... AND MORE!
    Thanks for watching!

There is another move Aladdin can do. If you are standing still, hold up while standing still and press the Attack Button at once, you will do a multiple upward side to side slash. You can keep tapping the Attack Button while holding up to do many upward side to side slashes in succession. It's excellent for defense when enemies are attacking you on both sides or if things are flying towards you. Finally, if you have to attack enemies in a tight spot, it's a good technique to use.

You're not collecting 3 halves of the scarab in the desert level, it's the same half 3 times. It flies away when you touch it the first 2 times. The 2nd half is from the first boss of the next stage. If you look close, you can see there's a graphical difference for each half.

It's funny, for some reason my brain always sorted this game into SIX levels rather than the ten it actually has. I think mainly because I counted levels 2 and 3 as 1-2 and 1-3 and level 7 as 3-2. No idea why I did this.
It's a bit sad that Blue Sky didn't get to finish Aladdin, would've been neat to see what they came up with at least, but perhaps this turned out for the best. Blue Sky went on to make one of my favorite action/run and gun games on the Genesis two years later: Vectorman, not to mention the EXCELLENT Jurassic Park sequel: Rampage Edition (another favorite, thanks to UrinatingTree for alerting me to its existence as a separate game from the original so long ago, as I thought it was just an upgraded version of the original until I watched his review of it) a year before that. Also, Virgin's final product is one of my favorite Genesis games. I was one of those kids fortunate enough to have both 16 bit consoles so it was never a matter of having to choose in that regard. I also played the SNES version and while I hated it back then, it's definitely a solid game in its own right and I definitely love it now. I just prefer this Aladdin. I don't know if it's those certain animations (getting the guard's pants to drop cracks me up even today), or the atmosphere, or the soundtrack... but something about this just feels better to me.

Why have you never used the sword from the crouch position? When you strike from the crouch your attack has more distance and you avoid some attacks from the enemies (especially that big muscular guard).
Also, I think in the desert there aren't three parts of scarab - it's just one half that flies away the first two times you try to grab it.

I remember a couple times in my childhood that I managed to soft-lock the game during the Jafar fight. If you get up close to him and fire apples at turbo speed, Jafar will sometimes flat-out disappear and his second form won't start.
...It might even happen after his second form. I don't remember which form does this because I haven't played Aladdin in 18 years. But I do remember soft-locking the Jafar fight because I threw apples at him too close and too quickly.
...Also, the Genesis version IMO is still the best. I mean, what is Aladdin if he doesn't swing a weapon? The sound of clanking swords if both you and the enemy swing simultaneously is a nice attention to detail that I think gets overlooked.

53:57 if you're quick enough you can jump off of carpet and grab the ceiling to save a bit of time.
55:15 if you have enough health then don't worry about taking damage from the spikes here. Your health will refill completely when you enter the boss room.
55:30 It's actually better if you get closer to the boss here. Spam your sword attack to stop the lightning bolts. Once you do spam apples like crazy and when Iago gets caught in the cogs start spamming your sword again.
Good guide overall. This is one of my favorite games and they're were things in this video I was not aware of. Such as the super jump and the hidden extra life at the start of level 1. I'd really like to see you do another favorite genesis game of mine; Wonder Boy In Monster World.

This game was good back in the day & still love the game after figuring out how to avoid the dangerous stuff in the game. Did beat it with Game Genie back in the day but it was still tricky to beat it.

Just finished this minutes ago. First video of yours that I used to finish a game. Played it a good amount over the weekend, but I was ready to beat it today after work. Thank you. It was especially helpful on the last two levels. Quick question. Do you cover games in the 32-bit/64-bit era? Don't think I've noticed any. Anyway, on to another 16-bit classic, Revenge Of Shinobi.

I loved this game, but IMO it needed one more level, a snow level before the final stage, like in the movie when Aladdin gets sent away into snowy mountains. Also the lack of Jafar's final form made the final boss somewhat disappointing.
Still great game though very nostalgic. Used to play it all the time as a kid.

I noticed in stage 2, each piece of the scarab is the exact same. Maybe it just means that the first two times you try to collect the scarab piece, it flies away. The scarab piece you get from the first boss of the 3rd level is the other piece of the scarab.

I always thought grabbing three scarab pieces in Level 2 was odd as well. Only recently did I realize the first two times Aladdin touches it, the piece then flies away. But, at the end of the level, it doesn't. I believe the developers were indicating that Aladdin never actually acquired the first scarab piece until the third time the player touches it.

I played this game so much as a kid that I could breeze through the game on the highest difficulty setting. When we learned about the debug mode, we explored all over the levels to find anything we didn't see normally. So, I ended up exploring as much as I could to find it all (fortunately, the game doesn't have a time limit). When I played the SNES version the first time, it was something of a shock seeing it didn't look as good (IMO) and didn't have the sword. It was still fun, but the Genesis version was superior (again, IMO).

I always got frustrated at the carpet level. I made it to Jafar once but couldn't beat him. I would have been in awe watching you breeze through it.

    • @striderskorpion
      @striderskorpion 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@davidt3563 We didn't have a lot of games, so we played what we had a lot (i.e., we had a lot of practice). Also, I always stocked up on extra lives and continues whenever I could. I hated that carpet level. It was kind enough to let you skip it after a few failed attempts. If you played it enough, you'd memorize it. But those twitch reactions didn't always work in your favor.

@@striderskorpion I had a paper route around 93 so as a kid I had TONS of free money (about 1k a month) but not a lot of free time. So I bought games constantly and pretty much beat none of them. I wish I could go back and slap myself for that. I didn't correct that habit until 08 when I was an adult. Now I make a conservative effort to get the most out of my game purchases. It's so much more rewarding that way!

I notice that on stage 3 (halfway) you didnt pick a 1up that show on the screen, so I guess not all 1up's are worth to collect 😅

    • @UCanBeatVideoGames
      @UCanBeatVideoGames  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I did collect that 1-Up, but I did it in the earlier part of the video, and then didn't collect it after I cut away.
The reason I didn't collect it the second time through was because if you ever have 9 lives, the 1-Ups won't spawn. So, to be able to show where to collect all of the 1-Ups, I had to strategicly drop some lives when I had a chance to cut away.
To be fair, though- I'm sure I missed a few on Rug Ride. Even I'm not that good!
