So many years, not even days, but years playing this game! I'm a massive, massive Turtles fan, have been for nearly 40 years now! The first TMNT movie is legit still in my top 3 ever movies. Thanks UCBVG, wha a treat!
@@ravager48 , there are actually a third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth film as well. The third one is a much maligned film that honestly had a very boring villain. The fourth one was, I think, a crossover with the MMPR (which was bad, yet somehow led to not one, but TWO, MMPR crossovers in the comic books). The fifth one was the animated one from 2007. The sixth one was a direct-to-DVD/televised crossover with the the 1987 TMNT universe (the 2012 TMNT and 1987 TMNT crossover episodes were done better). The seventh one was the Michael Bay one (which, despite being Michael Bay, was not at least AS bad as the third and fourth films). The eighth one was honestly a surprisingly good sequel to the seventh one, and it also helped to change the characters of Rocksteady and Bebop, along with the 2012 TMNT series, and the IDW comics versions of those two characters. The ninth one was a surprisingly good animated crossover with, of all people, Batman, which also led them being a part of two pretty good fighting video game franchises, namely, Injustice, and, as of the year 2023, Street Fighter. The tenth, and last one, is their most recent film in TMNT: Mutant Mayhem.
Actually, I forgot to mention the limited Japanese OVA series that literally no one remembers that kind of was honestly foreshadowing the MMPR crossovers as well...finding that one is tough work.
I honestly think that the plot to the third film should have been this game, but, in all honesty, pulling off that would have been difficult to pull off well in 1993, and making the Kraang/Krang be the focus in the film instead of just randomly going back in time somehow just would not have had as much of an impact without The Shredder, and then there were villains like Mr. Null, who would have scared kiddos and made SJW Karens/Kevins lose their minds, and fighting literal demons kind of is too much of a stretch, even in the TMNT sense.
I just wanna say that the original turtles movie still holds up as an excellent action adventure movie. Not only does the movie hold great nostalgia but it was actually well made with great jokes that are funny even for adults. “Cricket! Cricket?! You gotta know what a crumpet is to play cricket!” Still one of my favorite lines from the movie.
I would love a donkey Kong country trilogy walkthrough. Those games are fun but can be brutal. Also earth worm Jim one and two. Thanks for the great content and game history coverage.
Underrated talent, filling dead air. Aside from explaining everything, there are times where the video could've gotten away with just leaving dead air and let the game footage speak for itself. However, the narrator manages to not only fill the entire runtime with talking, but also make it entertaining. Not all jokes are gonna land, of course. No comedian has a 100% hit rate. But I think it's a greatly underrated skill to be able to fill dead air and not have it be boring or seem like you're just talking to fill airtime.
This is funny, I just rewatched your playthrough of "Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project" the other day, for no real reason. Turtles in Time has a special place in my heart, my best friend and I played this (and Street Fighter 2) over and over. He passed away from cancer just out of High School, so these games he and I played so often really hit home some good memories. Great video, man!
@@bigsj3632 I don’t think so. This is very different. All he does is provide a history of the game, give some of the secrets, and goes through a let’s play. There’s not really much that good fall apart, unless he starts bringing in new sound effects or trying to make things more bombastic. As it is, it works perfectly. And he can do this for the next 15 years, using the same exact format, and sound effects and it’ll work. Even Ryan George is sticking to his guns and keeping the format pretty much what we fell in love with. As long as they do, it’s going to work very well.
Man watching the intro to this gives me goosebumps. I was born in ‘78 and went through everything you talked about. When turtles in time was released on arcade I still remember walking out of the movie theatre (not turtles) and there was a brand new monster of an arcade there that wasn’t there before the movie started and there was already a long line. Lol. The memories.
Man, thinking of the arcade gives me so much nostalgia. Starting the game I can't help hearing in my head "BIG APPLE, 3 AM!" and humming along to the tune. This game has some of the best music ever.
The SNES game was really badass! The action figures were one of the best I had as a kid growing up. The original arcade 89’ 90 was also one of my favorites. Yes it ate all of my quarters lol, just like Captain America and the Avengers arcade did. This was one hell of an nostalgic game.
Oh my, you just put beatdowns on everything! I’ve been playing this for 30 years and haven’t known you could destroy enemies like that. Also, the breakdown on the turtle differences was amazing, thank you!
Man, one of the games that defined my childhood. Mikey's tankiness and strong normal hits made him my go-to turtle. That said, something not mentioned was how scoring works. Since you get an extra life per 200 points, racking up a high score can prolong your session. Beating an enemy with your fourth hit in the combo gives 2 points, as does using the super slam with both the enemy used and the enemies hit. The Screen Toss gives 3 points. Anything else gives 1 point. However, using the Flip Tackle to kill an enemy will give 4 points, and opportunities to go for this are limited, but it is rather satisfying to accomplish, especially if you can kill a boss with it. That said, there is one big secret few pull off -- clearing a stage without taking any damage (meaning no super-usage) and ignoring any health-restoring pizzas will grant a whopping 80 points to your score. Also, fun tidbit -- when battling Leatherhead, you can deflect the lobsters he throws at you. Catching him with one, usually the third one he tosses, can stun him, letting you get in some free potshots.
That's just not true. I've watched no damaged playthroughs. You do not get 80 points for clearing it without damage. You get the 1 point for the boss and 16 points for your health meter. You do not get 80 points.
All these years and I never knew the Turtles had such vastly different stats. I mostly played as Donatello, because his my favorite turtle. Or Raphael. It suddenly makes sense why I always died so easily as Raph.

43:04 For the NEON KNIGHT RIDER level. Play the BOTTOM of the screen when getting the pizzas. You move faster and the enemies that shock you open up the gap a bit more.
Used to play this game so much as a little kid. I would always pick Raph. Never knew why my health seemed to disappear so much quicker than my brothers when I would get hit. Seemed like I would kill enemies way quicker though so that was nice. One day I got good enough to complete the game without losing a life on Hard. I was a very proud kid that day 👍🏽
If you have a anbernic rg35xx you can play ps1 snes nes sega mega drive 90’s handheld and arcade games even 80’s arcade game i have this and the arcade version on my rg35xx

Shout out to the intro describing the history of the development and legacy of every game this dude plays, in addition to actually helping us beat them.

Many a quarters pumped into these machines as a kid. When I was about 25, I flew from Northern VA to West Palm Beach, FL with my dad to pick up a TMNT 2 arcade cabinet. Had many great years of fun with that thing! Thanks for the great video, UCBVG!
Some games live up to hype/reputation and some don't. Turtles in Time for the SNES totally did when I played it years after it came out. I didn't get on with the arcade version at first, auto run was pretty annoying at first, but I grew to love it too. The changes to the SNES version make it more cohesive, along with the clever Shredder fight, and incentivizing the throws with the point system. Those were all good ideas. I prefer the arcade music by quite a bit, and I also prefer Neon Night Riders as a regular stage as opposed to a bonus stage. But as a whole, the SNES game is very well made and is better than the arcade in a lot of ways. I had never seen that turtles damage chart before and it does fill in some gaps. I did notice that the differences between the turtles are more pronounced in the SNES version than the arcade. On my own, I was able to determine differences in general attack power, defense/vitality, range and speed. Leonardo is the most well rounded in those, being second best at all of them. I personally view him as the best turtle, at least for my play style, and a good choice for beginners. I also like using Mike for his power and durability, but he's the slowest with the second worst range which means it's harder to avoid hits and grabs which can be annoying. From the looks of that chart, Don and Raph are much more specialized and could perhaps be seen as extra difficulty modes. Clearly they can work, and Raph is definitely for speed runs, but I have little interest in leaning on Don's downward chop or spamming Raph's dash. But learning about Raph's dash power explains why he's so fast but frail(worst range, worst vitality, second worst power). But that's my point, that best and worst is going to come down to play style. Leo is the best for my approach which is more conventional, relying on the main combo with some jumping and dashing. Konami balanced the turtles in an interesting way, but it works and it's good to see the chart to see how they compensated for Don and Raph's weaknesses.
Nice! Last time I tried this game I beat it on easy, then normal then I gave up on hard after 2 or 3 levels. Maybe if I watch some UCBVG..... aaaaaaaallllllllllllllllright
This was always one of my favorite games in 1992. I wish it was one that I saved with my SNES that I still have today. I actually prefer the arcade version myself though if I got to pick. I liked the 4 player capability there first off. It was SO much fun on games like that, the first TMNT arcade, The Simpsons, and X-Men (that you could even have 6 players going in the biggest cabinet) to get a group of your buddies or people you just met, and have that great team experience in the arcade. Wow was it fun. But the arcade TMNT in Time also moved smoother, had more to the animations, had better synthesized voices, and better sounding effects and music. It also had the different title “screen saver” with the “Pizza Power” song, that was the actual vocal version. That’s just how arcade games still were compared to the home versions then. The dedicated cabinets always beat the cartridges. I also preferred the bosses and levels on the arcade of this game too. With the home version, it felt like they tossed in a few of the characters from the toy line just to try and make more money. But like I say, this was still probably the very best arcade port to a home console at the time for sure. If you ever find a copy of this today unopened and in mint condition? Holy crap does it go for bucketloads of money. Wish I had bought a few copies in 1992 and just not opened them. 🤑
Eh I don't honestly feel like it even needs a guide, I figured out on my own you can just change the controller settings and cheese the whole game with flying kicks. It also makes having to throw foot soldiers at the Shredder boss really easy.
This game has the most bumpin’ OST on the SNES. Only one that comes close is Battletoads and Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team. You should review that one next 🦮
The arcade boss for Prehistoric Turtlesaurus is actually Cement Man from the cartoon. "Cement Man LIVES!!" He appeared in the final episode of the alien eye saga, as a creation of Baxter Stockman's.
Despite playing this a ton back in the day, I had no idea that they had different strengths or amounts of health. I just picked up the Cowabunga Collection and will be sure to put this to use!
Glad they released cowabunga collection and put every turtles game made on it brings back my old games I had to get rid of around the time n64 came out I’m still regretting that move to this day I miss my nes and sega and I had a ton of great games for both
Never played this growing up or knew it existed. I wasn't really a Super Nintendo kid even though I owned it. My two favorites are NES and N64. My favorite video game will always be TMNT 2. But I own a copy of this today and I think it's pretty fun.
revisit this one frequently...still my favorite beat em up and two player co-op from 16 bit era. Beat this one so many times and just about perfect as far as beat em ups go.
Been loving these videos. It's like reliving my childhood. Only thing missing is a gameplay video of Kirby's Adventure. Awesome NES game. Please do it!
one of the best games i have ever played! both snes and the arcade. had no idea that there was a code, stat differences for each turtle, or true ending
Not to nitpick or anything, but when Rat King starts his red ball sequence you can align yourself with the top half of his craft, just above where the red balls come out, and repeatedly hit him with basic attacks. This will push him backwards and interrupt his upward movement, so much so that you can actually push him nearly entirely off screen. It's easier to do with a second player, but using this technique has let me get past him with full health since the mid 90's. Edit: I forgot to mention that I've learned a lot from this video. I've never beaten Slash without losing a couple of lives, but now I can. Thanks!
Great tutorial. I'll add that, if you are fighting Slash, you can also attack him from behind(and it's very easy to jump over him to do so). This would allow you to beat him with Leo more easily: that may be you favorite turtle or you may want an added challenge throughout your game(Leo is the hardest to beat the game with--esp. with the higher bosses). But, he's super great at these tutorials!
Excellent tutorial man. I remember when I was kid me and my brother used to play it and other games like X-Kaliber 2097, Super Mario World and Street Fighter 2 turbo.
These games make me think of my dad.. we’d go to toys r us every other weekend … even if I didn’t get anything , just going an checking out the titles always made things better
Raph has always been my go to on both Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist. Ppl always told me he was the bad choice due his short range. But I’m all about the speed and agility. I’m glad to hear that he was always the right turtle of choice. 😊
Thanks for the videos . Watched a few to fresh my memory on some nes games . You came up again when I was trying to find a good way to throw the enemy’s in the level 4 boss fight on hard . Who knew dash was the secret trick . 😂
In beat'em ups: Elevator stages or even stages that visibly move you to your next destination as you fight is peak design.

Konami balanced the turtles in an interesting way, but it works and it's good to see the chart to see how they compensated for Don and Raph's weaknesses.
If you have a anbernic rg35xx you can play this and the arcade version
Best TMNT game hands down next to Shredders Revenge! I play this the most on the Cowabunga Collection next to Hyperstone Heist
Awesome game. Never found it especially difficult, though.
Great memories.
I never realized they had different stats.
Appreciate the work you put into these videos
Totally agree. His research just for the intro is fantastic.
Nice! Last time I tried this game I beat it on easy, then normal then I gave up on hard after 2 or 3 levels.
Maybe if I watch some UCBVG..... aaaaaaaallllllllllllllllright
I absolutely loved this game growing up. Such a fun game.
I played turtles in time and maximum carnage so much as a kid!
Awesome, awesome SNES game - top five on the system. And "Alleycat Blues" is still a banger.
Loved throwing foot soldiers at the screen and smashing them into the ground.
The Cowabunga Collection has both the snes port and the original arcade versions, it really sets the bar for retro game collections
One of my favorite SNES games (I played the original arcade game, but not this one). I eventually mastered Hard.
I played this game everyday in middle school. Thank you so much for posting this!
Tonight Shredder doesn't dine on turtle soup. At least if UCBVG has anything to say about it!
Eh I don't honestly feel like it even needs a guide, I figured out on my own you can just change the controller settings and cheese the whole game with flying kicks. It also makes having to throw foot soldiers at the Shredder boss really easy.
This is one of my favorite games so glad I bought the cowabunga collection
This game has the most bumpin’ OST on the SNES. Only one that comes close is Battletoads and Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team. You should review that one next 🦮
I can't imagine how much work you have to make a video like this.
You really went deep into many of the history and other game details.
Well done.
The arcade boss for Prehistoric Turtlesaurus is actually Cement Man from the cartoon. "Cement Man LIVES!!" He appeared in the final episode of the alien eye saga, as a creation of Baxter Stockman's.
One of my all time favourite games ever. I played it so much growing up and still play it occasionally.
My favorite TMNT game ever still.
How have you not done Super Metroid yet??
TNMT IV: Turtles in Time is the best beat'em up *ever* so nice to see this one played through, never beat shredder on hard as a kid.
this is one i can get behind for sure! also you did faxanadu for me a long time ago. you should do another classic super metroid!!!
Bonus! It's unusual you are able to upload back to back weekends. Thank you!
Despite playing this a ton back in the day, I had no idea that they had different strengths or amounts of health. I just picked up the Cowabunga Collection and will be sure to put this to use!
Glad they released cowabunga collection and put every turtles game made on it brings back my old games I had to get rid of around the time n64 came out I’m still regretting that move to this day I miss my nes and sega and I had a ton of great games for both
This was the first game I ever owned for the SNES and I couldn't tell you how many hours of fun I had playing it.
A superb choice and a game that I hold dearly in my heart, many weekends and summer nights in the 90s playing Turtles in Time!
Game reminds me of biking to the video store on a Saturday morning. It was never a game I wanted to own, but it was great for renting for a weekend.
Absolutely! Wasn't long enough to own but was an amazing rental!
one of the best games i have ever played! both snes and the arcade. had no idea that there was a code, stat differences for each turtle, or true ending
Back in 1995, Sweden, I as a 5 yo kid played this with my friend all the time! Great time :D
Thanks!
Been lagging on watching these on Saturday...
But now i gots a backlog to munch thru for later enjoyment.
Your intros are better than many standalone videos out there
Thanks homie. This game and the fighting games on SNES were of the games I always came back to.
Definitely my all time favorite TMNT game. I'm so glad this version had Slash cuz the arcade version didn't!
This video is perfect with the repeated 80's movie references from Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. Definitely nostalgic! 😊
