In the 2nd grade, I loved this game but couldn't figure out the map. I wrote a letter to Nintendo asking if they could help and a few months later, I received a complete map of the entire game. Just incredible for Nintendo to do that and it really made my day.
Nintendo customer service back in the day was top notch. They were just so helpful. Seems like customer service like they had back in the day is long gone. The greatest time was getting out of school and knowing that the new Nintendo Power magazine just showed up at home and couldn't wait to get your hands on it.
@@yogidemis8513 plus a lot of games were learned by taking about them in the bus to and from school. I made a great friend in second grade because I knew how to find the Island Palace in Zelda II. Sadly, he and his family were transferred to Panama a little over a year later.

My man, my brother and i had a notebook that we drew maps and enemy location. I remember the 80's as well. Metroid was so epic, kids have no idea. When you got to the metroids, it was frightening.
@@Bruuuuuh620 when i said my man, i was say it to the original poster. Ha! As in, "hey my man." Just me and my older brother. We also did that with zelda 1. I re-read it and i see how it sounded. That stuff didn't happen back in the day like that. Ha!
If you really beat it on your own that is impressive I think Zelda I beat on my own but before I got the game I knew alot of Stuff from kids at school like how to get through the lost woods
Speedrunners have been playing this game for years, but I believe you provided more detail and helpful tips than most would think of. Your narration is so calming compared to watching someone just zoom through the game, and there are plenty videos of that kind of content which is why yours stand out. The amount of research you do for these games is stunning, thanks for doing these.
The secrets and ways to navigate this game were mind blowing, this is expert level gameplay. Metroid for NES has to be one of the most cryptic games ever, subscribed after watching this!
I killed Mother Brain as a kid. When the screen started shaking, an actual small earthquake shook my house. The timed escape was even more intense, especially for an 8 year old.
Some additional tips: All enemies in an area do the same amount of damage per hit, except for Metroids. Brinstar enemies hit for 8 energy, 10 in Norfair, 20 in the miniboss hideouts, and 30 in Tourian. Since the Varia suit cuts this in half, you definitely want it before delving into the hideouts. Swooping enemies like Rios and Gerutas have a chance to drop big energy, which looks the same but heals for 20 instead of 5. Learning their patterns (they swoop down and will even crawl along the ground until you jump, causing them to swoop back up) so you can fight them easily will make restoring your health if you're low or after a death much quicker than fighting weaker enemies, especially if you have the screw attack. I don't recall if sidehoppers or desgeegas also have a chance to drop 20 energy but they're so dangerous that it is best to kill or freeze them and move on. The entire world is on one map, and elevators tell the game which tileset to switch to. The "secret worlds" are what happens when you use the door glitch to get into a different area without changing the tileset, and are very glitchy. They were actually referenced in the Metroid inspired game Axiom Verge, where in certain points (random on each playthrough but always once per area) you can break out of the confines of the map into glitch looking "secret worlds" which are made up of a mixture of rooms from that area, much like the ones in Metroid, however they can be fully explored and you can even find powerups within them, including the rare size nodes that increase the size of your shots/weapons and are found almost exclusively in these glitchy references to the secret worlds of Metroid. If you're having trouble with Mother Brain or find your missiles running low fall back to the hallway before her chamber, and fight the metroids there for health and energy drops. If you know how far to run to spawn the first two metroids, you can freeze them on top of each other and kill both with only 5 missiles. After collecting your spoils run back to the door to Mother Brain to scroll their spawn points off screen and respawn them. This makes recharging in the final battle much quicker, and the Zeebetites you destroyed will stay dead giving you a better shot at destroying the brain. This is especially useful for inexperienced players fighting her for the first time, or those mad players that skipped the Varia suit.
You don’t know the closure I get from watching these videos It’s like finally getting to see the cheesy endings you missed as a kid and finding out how close you were to finding a secret that you never did
I never could beat this game as a kid. I eventually fell in love with Super Metroid and I make sure to beat it once a year. It's by far the best game in the series IMO. One of the best games of all time. I'd love to see a video on it.
This was the first NES game other than the pack in Mario cartridge that I had. It cost 30 bux at SEARS in 1990, but the price detered my mom until my birthday rolled around. I knew about the game from watching my cousin play. She knew all the tricks and secrets and I learned a lot from her... no youtube walkthroughs in those days. To figure all this out back then was way, way harder. Just time, patience and practice. I remember trying to speedrun it before I knew that was even a thing people did. After Galaga... this is my favorite game from the classic era, and definitely my favorite NES cart. Thanks for the solid walkthrough... pretty much follows my old routes minus some cool shortcuts I didnt know about. That trick to get the Varia suit early was unknown to me until playing it emulated. Also... I would leave that Energy tank hidden in the roof at the beginning area so when I got to Mother Brain and inevitably died, I could reload the energy completly without having to farm for 30 minutes.
@Hugo Rodriguez I missed out on this one when I was a kid. I first played it about three years ago, and I forced myself to play it 100 percent authentic 80's style. I surveyed and mapped out the entire planet as I went, rather than just looking up a map or watching playthroughs on the internet. And especially because it was so tempting to just take the easy way out, doing it the hard way was infinitely more rewarding. It was such a great experience, and Metroid instantly became one of my all time favorite video games. See you next mission!
I first played this in the early 90s on a friend's console and never beat it. Years later I bought my own original Nintendo probably in the late 90s or early 2000s and got this game. The only thing I remembered was the beginning. A couple of years later and talking with older heads I finally finished it. I still play this game to this day on original equipment.
I found the music in Kraids lair ominous and kinda spooky as a kid! I still love that tune, I would play this game long into my weekend nights, it felt like such a huge adventure being 7 years old! Ahh I miss those day's!
This is absolutely mind blowing to me. I never thought of getting all pumped up before even fighting a boss. I won't tell you how long this game took me to beat, but I will say that after probably 100 tries, I finally got the 3hr ending. I had this game before I found LoZ, and this was by far my favorite game to play. I spent sooo many hours as a kid playing this. Awesome video, I'm completely astonished right now. Also, the lag you got when a bunch of enemies were on the screen... Priceless.
I'm pretty sure I got the very worst ending the first time I beat Metroid - there was so much to find, and I didn't know I was on a timer as a kid! So much fun, though! Good old NES lag. It was a different time for sure!
I know many people already say it, but to me this is the greatest video game of all time. This started the whole dungeon crawler genre and it’s so near and dear to my heart. I played this as a kid and of course didn’t get very far. I didn’t even play Super Metroid until I got my SNES Classic a few years ago and, let me tell ya, that was a real treat!!! Such a timeless classic. This humble game started it all. Long live Samus!
Such incredible memories of this game back in 1988 and 89 when I first got my original Nintendo and played it. I was 8 years old and let my imagination run wild. Was always fascinated by space and the possibility of aliens and other life, so the thought that what if something crazy like this was happening somewhere out there in the galaxy. I had the entire game mapped on graph paper, codes I wrote down after everytime I got a new item, and all kinds of notes on the best way to go through the game. No telling how many hours I dropped into playing this, but still to this day metroid is my favorite game series ever. The only one even close to it is zelda, but that's a whole other story
I've seen a lot of videos on the original Metroid and this is by far the best! You covered secrets, alternate strategies, everything in the most clear and concise way I've seen! Keep up the good work!
recently got the switch online. i was on Team SEGA growing up and have never really played a metroid game. With your help (and some save states) I was able to not only able to finish the game but was able to successfully door glitch. Love the work you do and will be using more of your guides very soon.
This was the first Nintendo game I ever played. My neighbor had it. We were about 8 years old. I never really got far in the game to be honest. I could not find but a few energy packs and bombs. Never any amour or weapons. Thanks for taking all the time to make these fantastic videos.
@@ifixem9585 sorry man, someone wrote the words Butt Fuck in spray paint all over my car. I'm better now. Pretty sure I can remove it without hurting the paint on the car
Great walkthrough as always! A trick I like to do is to leave the energy tank near the start of the game for the very end, as an easy recharge before heading to Tourian.
I remember using the "Justin Baley" code at a Christmas party, and well my cousins and I got into a massive argument. My cousins called the "new" character "The Witch" and aggressively stated that it was a separate character locked behind a code... I'd beaten the game fast enough to know different... Still waiting on that apology lol...
That was the very first secret code I ever learned in a game and I hold it dearly. I was told by my baby sitter growing up it was Lana from Captain N, but then when I found out Samus was a she, I put two and two together LOL
That kid was having massive cognitive dissonance. He just couldn't fathom having played a girl the entire time. How sad. xD I thought I was Zelda the whole time I played those games.
Your videos are fantastic. Clear, thoughtful, and soothing. One of my favorite things is to pause each one when you show the game at the beginning and see the games you have around it that are coordinated in some way. Thanks!
After waiting until 2012, starting with Super Metroid and falling in love with it. Really enjoyed Dread , finally went back to the original and started liking it a lot .
Your videos are great, I love the chill style and historic info! Only 2 months until METROID DREAD! Been waiting almost 20 years for the next mainline, 2d Metroid!
Thanks for helping me beat this game. I beat it between one and three hours at eleven years old. I did use the rewind feature installed into the emulator in the switch because im kind of bad.
That's how I did it like 2 or 3 years ago with help by YCBVG. I used the rewind and referenced this video. I got to the point of playing it on my own with roughly a 96 to 97 percent of the items gotten.
This is fast becoming one of my favorite channels. He's not doing perfect no-hit runs but he's playing all the way through and teaching us the secrets. This is what we used to do back in the day... Go to someone's house who was an expert and let him teach us the game then we'd go home and work on it.
Exactly. The best way to get good at a game was to watch an experienced player play it. And the narration explaining all of the moves is priceless. I appreciate naming the sprites so I can refer to them by name as well. Thank you for your work.
Thank you for your tip on getting the Varia Suit. I used to use the ice beam method but the setup is difficult if the enemy doesn't feel like cooperating. It has literally saved me anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes off my speedrun. Many thanks my friend and keep up the good work.
@@johngavalas712 The idea is to force the enemy (sorry can't remember it's name) into the upper part of the section by opening up the breakable blocks and freezing it into the gap. The problem is the foe will not always fly into the hole created and you would have to reset the room. The idea is to freeze it and using it as a stepping stone to reach the door that leads to the varia suit.
I 100% completed Metroid Dread yesterday and I only thought it appropriate to play the OG Metroid and complete that as well. Thanks for this guide, it was easy to follow. One thing I would recommend, these walkthroughs are clearly meant for first time players, - fast forwarding seems unnecessary as I found myself pausing to get caught up as I couldn't remember my way back at some points. Having it go at normal speed would make it a bit easier. But then again you have 55k subs, so you're clearly doing something right. Either way thanks bud, this made completing the game so much easier. (also fuck mother brain, that was a bitch to beat)
agree. Metroid, espacially with "Super" is still-to-date very very fine balanced. but to make a statement....without nostalgia, Hollow Knight is perhaps better. a bit ;)
I wish you would have shown mini False Kraid. It fooled a lot of people back in the day. Thinking they killed Kraid and leaving the area only to find out they had to go back.
I did that as a kid. I ran around for hours wondering why the statue bridge wasn't working. It took a friend in school to tell me that there was two Kraigs. A mini Kraig and big Kraig.
I love when you say!!! "this is it!!!" It's like yeah!!! Come on!!! Bring it on!!! Let's go!!! Let's do this!!! Classic... Never change and never stop bringing this very special Chanel to us, thank you 🙏 ✌️
Okay, I always felt like I found most of the things, and did pretty well playing Metroid as a child in the late 80s. After finding this channel, watching this video and the Zelda video, I feel like even my NES days were a lie, and not just my home life....... I mean, how did I miss so much? lol.
Alright. You have a long term plan that you are executing perfectly. *Super* Metroid being so late on your " to be uploaded" list tells me you knew this was going to be exactly as cool as it has become and I can barely wait to have that STAPLE LEGENDARY U Can Beat Video Games Super Metroid video. Blessings Home Skillet. This project was divine inspiration.
Just finished it with your video to help me. I finished it as a kid and I remember my best friend and I drawing maps and sharing them because we explored different paths. If only I had kept those... Next, I’ll be revisiting Castlevania 2. It’s been so long!
Fun little fact (RE: 39:00) - the reason why the Wave Beam doesn't "consistently" destroy the blocks is because there's some memory limitation and the game can only have so many destroyed blocks on-screen at once. When you chew through a dozen of them at once with penetrating Wave Beam shots, you hit this limit very quickly and can't destroy any more (with beams OR bombs) until they start re-forming.
19:03 Sequence Break also possible in the more traditional way, wherein you freeze the waver and shoot the breakable column above it, then allow it to make it's way into the chamber above where it can be refrozen and used as a platform.
You don't need any powerups at all - aside from Bombs. There's a trick where you use a bomb jump, stand up, and perform a normal jump at the apex of the bomb jump. This is JUST barely enough to get you up to the door. Be warned: this is tricky as hell will take a fair bit of practice to pull off.
Metroid was the first NES game i owned! Was (I think) late '86 and i was searching all over (with my parents) for an NES. K-Mart were all out (surprise, surprise), I went to another similar store franchise (it's now a furniture place) and lo and behold they had the systems for sale! Noticed when i got home, there was no Super Mario Bros. game, but the Official NES Player's Guide (which i still have), so we went back up, let them know, and they let me choose a free game (i don't think i was supposed to)! So I chose this one, which I also still have. Rygar was the first game i beat (8 yrs. old, going on 9), then this one. Memories.......
I never thought I want to play through the original Metroid again. Your tips and secrets for getting items early in the game is amazing and is better than the game genie to me. Your channel has rekindled the fun in some of the NES games I used to play! Also I am finding secrets I had long forgotten in super Mario World! If you haven't already please do Super Metroid. Took me thirty years but I was kind of bored with it but you have made retro gaming fun again! I am having a blast playing through Nintendo classics on my switch. Thank you! 😊😊😊
Metroid was the first NES game I owned besides the pack in Mario/Duck Hunt cart. Used to play it all the time high AF. Eventually managed to complete it without walkthroughs!
Your comment about Metroidvania is incorrect. It's generally attributed to Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The term was coined after Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was released to differentiate between traditional Castlevania games and SotN like games.
Hey I love this video! I have Brinstar memorized, working on getting Norfair memorized next. Hopefully be able to start some speedruns with a little practice in the next month or so!
My name is Josh and I love your channel I've been watching for about 2 years now and I absolutely love your channel me watching your channel help me beat video games I think your dogs are so cute
As a kid you make it over an hour in with full health, missiles and everything. Then your brother bumps the nes and the screen is frozen. Now to do a durability test on the nes. Just throw it until your anger fades but don’t worry it will still work after the test if you blow in the cartridge.
I love everything about these videos...even the little nuances like "whenever you shoot them again with the ice beam it deals more damage, but it unfreezes them, so that part is a little bit unappealing"
Nice video! I've always considered myself a Metroid fan, but never played much of the first game, until now. Thanks to your video, I was able to beat it for the first time! It has a lot more charm than I gave it credit for!
I remember when I first go this as a kid amazingly we got it from an Ace's hardware store yeah funny ain't it hardware stores selling video games but back in the 80's at least in my area it was common. Loved the game to death and still play it today.
Bro.... I'm actually doing a "back in time" gaming adventure. And your channel is one of the best retro gaming channel I've discovered for a while. Incredibly helpful. Subscribed INSTANTLY. It's almost ASMR to me XD
Other important caveats about the screw attack are that you stabilize your jump and exit screw if you shoot, and that screw attack will deactivate when you get below the height you started your jump. Speaking of stabilizing the jump, very handy for landing on narrow platforms. Also, when ice beam shoots an enemy and freezes it, it doesn't do any damage at all. Only does damage when it's already frozen, if it's a super-weak enemy, or a boss.
That's a very efficient route - certainly faster than my old 'clear the whole map' approach back in the day. It does require the door-jumping shortcut for the varia suit but makes a much faster route than going to kraid first as the designers intended. I had a little half-page map of the whole grid of rooms from an old Nintendo Power way back and pored over it like it was the bible to help me figure out where everything was and how to get there. I don't know how anyone would get around without some kind of map or guide.
Trial, error, memorization. I remember finally beating this in the early 2000s and I only did that by asking some older guy how he did it. Luckily he played it enough I could give him a rough description of the room or area and he could tell me some things that would have hung me up like the missing floor in front of that one energy pack
This is the first NES game I owned besides the Mario/Duck Hunt cartridge. I finally managed to complete it while blitzed out of my mind, with no walkthroughs or cheat devices back in the day!
Thank you for this video. I had this game when it came out in the 80's and I was ever able to beat it. As of today in large part by your video I can finally put this game to rest. Thank you. Great job.
I love your guides; they've helped me with my childhood games I knew I can beat but became easier knowing the tricks and glitches/exploits you can use to breeze through Metroid. At the 37:55-time marker you can actually escape the high lava pits with a précised timed damage boost knockback jump from the dragon's fire spits. Too me it sounds better than accepting death by lava without trying a way.
Just found your channel. I love going back and beating these games I struggled with as a kid. Last year I finished this and Zelda 2 which were especially tough. Your commentary is great and I really enjoy the intro telling the audience a bit about the game. Can't wait for more!
Excellent walkthrough, finally beat this game! I did have to use another video on damageless mother brain room to get an in depth strategy to complete. I just kept dying, you made it look so easy!
Fun fact about getting the varia suit: the official guides that came out at the time never said you need to high jump boots to get it. They suggest luring that waver up the hole into the room and freeze it to make a platform. It's doable, though annoying. Bonus fun fact: of course we know better now, but the Nintendo Fun Club magazine suggests that armored Samus and Zero Suit Samus are two completely different characters.
With Friday being, well... who doesn't know what Friday is at this point... I decided to finally watch this video and play along on the NES app of my Switch. For the most part, I followed this video precisely, but I did deviate on 3 points. 1. I didn't glitch my way to the Varia Suit, so I had to get the High Jump Boots before it 2. I skipped the first of 2 energy tanks in Kraid's lair (I was at full health at the point of the video, so I decided to save the 5 missiles and not bother with it) 3. I completely forgot to use the Ice Beam on the attacking donuts (I was trying for the fastest ending and didn't know how long I had been playing because, as previously stated, I was playing alongside this video XD ) -(It also didn't help matters that I entered Mother Brain's chamber with full health and 255 missiles, so I may have been a little overconfident)- I also saved my missiles against Kraid and got reckless with my health by using the bomb strategy there, but that was solely because I knew about the hidden energy tank in his lair even before knowing of this channel's existence. I also fought Ridley before Kraid for the first time ever. All of my previous attempts went after Kraid first, but Kraid won every time. -I did, however, defeat Mother Brain on an NES before, but only because of the password featured at the start of this video, which was another thing I knew from my childhood.- I guess you could say I'm undefeated against Ridley but (Punch Out!! reference incoming) have Glass Joe's (or Gabby Jay's) boxing record when it comes to fighting Kraid.
This video has been a great help. I've been playing through the original metroid but this has been a tough one to tackle. Whenever I play through an older game like this, usually I'll get a map off the internet and cover it up so I can uncover it as I progress. But I've been referring to this video because I was having a lot of trouble with this game, came so close to giving up so many times. But with your help when I need it, I've been able to push through and keep playing, so thanks!
It actually is possible to use the Screw Attack while jumping straight up. In fact, the trick to do it can also be used in Metroid 2 and Super Metroid. To perform this trick, briefly tap left or right on the d-pad, let go, and hit jump. If done correctly, you'll enter a completely vertical somersault. This is even more useful in Metroid 2 since it makes the Space Jump a lot easier to use.
45:37 is also a decent spot to practice with the chain-reaction bomb jump. Once you hit the right pattern, you can just let the bomb blasts lift you up, and then just edge over to the right (while still in ball form) and you'll land on the ledge.
Hey, great guide! Very helpful for a game that is famously obtuse when it comes to progression. I'm sure many are thanking you for going through it all. I do wanna mention a few quick things though. For one, you do not need to get under Ridley and use the wave beam to easily beat him. You can literally just go right next to him and shoot him in the shins with missiles or your beam. He cannot hit you there. So there's not really a specific need to get the wave beam in order to do that. Also, if you do not have the high jump boots, then you cannot get out of the fire/lava pit in Kraid's boss room. Important to know if you want to go grab the energy tank in his room. So, thanks for the guide! I _have_ beaten Metroid, so it was more of a fun refresher for me, plus a chance to see what I missed. Speaking of...I don't think I got the high jump boots nor the varia suit when I beat the game, so I should say that those items do help a lot!
Concerning the Pipes where flying enemies come out of.... The easiest way to farm them is after you have Bombs. Once you have Bombs, roll into a Ball and just keep using your Bombs. Most enemies will blow up before flying out and you can collect Energy and Missiles with relative ease.
I've watched all of the deep dive videos you have made and ready like them all! Doing a great job explaining everything. I think you should put clash at demon crest up sometime. Thanks for the videos
Also, don't want to sound like a feminist, but it was really cool to be surprised with Samus being a girl at the end. I was a little five year old girl, playing with my older, teen, male cousins and it blew us away, as we got her bodysuit ending where you could absolutely tell it was a woman (not the two piece bikini. The pink body suit) and not just a man with long hair (it was the 80s. Most men had long hair XD)
Sure this was mentioned already, but the term "Metroidvania" was coined because 1997's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night adopted a Super Metroid-like structure to the game. That became the primary setup for those games in the next decade.
I am watching games that took me forever to figure out as a little kid. I remember walls and bombing them and bomb jumping and exploring. Which made every area memorable almost 3 decades later.
I definitely will be covering more SNES games, and Super Metroid is high on the list. I'll probably need to be able to quit my day job before I'll have enough time to get into SNES RPGs, though. Those game are big!!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames what about other consoles in general, such as genesis or Gameboy? I know any newer would take too much time since games got bigger with the 32-bit era. I like keeping it retro though.

Some additional tips:
All enemies in an area do the same amount of damage per hit, except for Metroids.
Nice bit of info - thanks. :)
Freezing the fings when fighting Mother Brain helps a lot.
@captainscentsible3938I'm sure you'll just simply get an instant game over, then respawn in the very beginning of Tourian
@captainscentsible3938the screen flashes white and a bomb goes off. You respawn at the start of the last level
You don’t know the closure I get from watching these videos
It’s like finally getting to see the cheesy endings you missed as a kid and finding out how close you were to finding a secret that you never did
I never could beat this game as a kid. I eventually fell in love with Super Metroid and I make sure to beat it once a year. It's by far the best game in the series IMO. One of the best games of all time. I'd love to see a video on it.
It’s posted!
Love how the commentary is so quiet almost like you're trying not to wake your parents in the next room.
It's so calming lol
This channel is awesome. 30 years after I played this stuff, I'm chilling here watching again. A+
Great video! This game was massive for its time and I couldn’t fathom beating it as a kid with no TH-cam lol Respect to those who did it back then
@Hugo Rodriguez I missed out on this one when I was a kid.
I'm right there with you - those were good times!
All the music in this game is so good. So simple and so evocative at the same time.
No, that was zelda.
One of my favorite things about your videos is how chill your voice is. I also love you name most if not all the enemies as you encounter them
He's like the Bob Ross of classic gaming
Welcome to the Metroid fans. Have you played any of the other ones?
This was the first Nintendo game I ever played. My neighbor had it. We were about 8 years old. I never really got far in the game to be honest. I could not find but a few energy packs and bombs. Never any amour or weapons. Thanks for taking all the time to make these fantastic videos.
Well done, what a throw back. You're like the Bob Ross of NES..."We're just gonna call that a happy mistake. Happy, happy mistake" 😋
Love this comment. Let's get this pinned lol.

@@LarryLonson All good my man.
I’ve a time machine and am glad I found this!!! I’m going back to 1986 to beat the game and inform my friends of the future. Thank you.
Great walkthrough as always! A trick I like to do is to leave the energy tank near the start of the game for the very end, as an easy recharge before heading to Tourian.
Me too!
How sad. xD
I thought I was Zelda the whole time I played those games.
@@Vespyr_ That sums up my cousins pretty well actually...
@Ben Rounds I happen to like that quite a bit myself lol. Sounds like what other bounty hunters might refer to her when she's not in earshot.
Apologize to them. Visual very distinct skins. Not one color in common.
Your videos are fantastic. Clear, thoughtful, and soothing. One of my favorite things is to pause each one when you show the game at the beginning and see the games you have around it that are coordinated in some way. Thanks!
I always saw bikini Samus as more of a shoutout to the ending of Alien than them being perverse.
You're right it is. Unfortunately that'll never be talked about.
Oof memories of holding up in my bedroom all weekend long for many weekends with metroid!
One of the best respective and game guides on Metroid on TH-cam!
Thanks Gimpler!!
Awesome! That's a TON of time save!
What was your ice beam method?
@@johngavalas712 The idea is to force the enemy (sorry can't remember it's name) into the upper part of the section by opening up the breakable blocks and freezing it into the gap. The problem is the foe will not always fly into the hole created and you would have to reset the room.
The idea is to freeze it and using it as a stepping stone to reach the door that leads to the varia suit.
@phantom8157 that's the method I always used. It's a pain in the ass but it does work. Eventually. If you're patient enough.
I absolutely love metroid. Super Metroid is one of my favorite games of all time.
Super Metroid is incredible. A masterpiece.
Yeah my favorite games as a kid was doom and super metroid and link to the past
agree. Metroid, espacially with "Super" is still-to-date very very fine balanced. but to make a statement....without nostalgia, Hollow Knight is perhaps better. a bit ;)
Love this channel. Very relaxing and nostalgic. Sometimes I use the videos to fall asleep.
This game blew people’s minds back in the day. What an achievement! Also the music in the second boss’ zone is a hall of fame caliber piece.
That is pretty confusing, especially since he seems to be so deep into the hideout
I'm sure you already know this but if you bomb one of the center blocks in the green hallway after fake Kraid you can shortcut to the real Kraid
Yes! Thank you once again for helping me take the leap into this game. It's definitely more fun with your guide! Love this channel.
I still find Metroid as top of the video games I've encountered since 1989.
Totally agree!
You have the very best walkthroughs, thank you!
Thanks!!
the commentary really amps up the nostalgia. drawing a map will always be more fun than pushing select!
I did not know that was a sequence break. I thought that was what I was supposed to do.
@@schwarzerritter5724 Haha. Nice! But no, you aren't intended to receive the Varia Suit that early in the game before Hi Jump Boots.
@@semicharmedlife311 In Metroid 2 is a place where I always dive through the acid to avoid having to go back and forth.
Wow Ive never heard of the secret rooms in Ridleys area til this video. Very nice!!
I love the old Official NES Player's Guide! I definitely referenced it as I was making this video!
Another fantastic video of an awesome, classic and (for me) super-challenging game !!
I can not believe it, I watched this clip till the end, it just like a movie, great job!!!
Amazing Metroid I and II guides, now we need Super Metroid!😉

I appreciate your use of the space on the sides of the screen ( og aspect ratio) to display currently discussed info for your walkthrough
Just found your channel. I love going back and beating these games I struggled with as a kid. Last year I finished this and Zelda 2 which were especially tough. Your commentary is great and I really enjoy the intro telling the audience a bit about the game. Can't wait for more!
Thanks! This all started for me in a similar way - I wanted to conquer those games that seemed so hard as a kid. Glad you're enjoying it!
My new favorite TH-cam channel, binged watch all of your vids, keep up the good work, looking forward to your next vid 🙈👍🏻
I absolutely love this channel. This is the best video series on TH-cam right now.
My friend your content is exquisite
All I could think of with the first Ridley fight was "that's so very very sad!"
With Friday being, well... who doesn't know what Friday is at this point... I decided to finally watch this video and play along on the NES app of my Switch. For the most part, I followed this video precisely, but I did deviate on 3 points.
1. I didn't glitch my way to the Varia Suit, so I had to get the High Jump Boots before it
2. I skipped the first of 2 energy tanks in Kraid's lair (I was at full health at the point of the video, so I decided to save the 5 missiles and not bother with it)
3. I completely forgot to use the Ice Beam on the attacking donuts (I was trying for the fastest ending and didn't know how long I had been playing because, as previously stated, I was playing alongside this video XD ) -(It also didn't help matters that I entered Mother Brain's chamber with full health and 255 missiles, so I may have been a little overconfident)-
I also saved my missiles against Kraid and got reckless with my health by using the bomb strategy there, but that was solely because I knew about the hidden energy tank in his lair even before knowing of this channel's existence.
But with your help when I need it, I've been able to push through and keep playing, so thanks!
very good I cant imagine trying to figure this out without a map or walkthrough, For some reason I missed this one as a kid,
It was a nightmare doing it before internet
Thank you so much! Played every Metroid but this one and all I have to say is... Thank god Zero Mission exists.
Thank you so much for this great tutorial. Would never have beat this classic without you're help!
It would be interesting to see the exploration of the hidden areas. I never knew these existed.
Yeah I’d love to see a map of that
I've watched all of the deep dive videos you have made and ready like them all!
I love your videos man💯👍🏾♥️ U make me want to go back and play all the old games I can't beat😍😍
Man that took me forever but I got the wave so that was awesome lol , another one beat thanks to you!!!!
