The toranas steering wheel will be probably punch an imprint into your chest and bonnet come through the windscreen. I love old cars eg torana, but safety wise you can’t beat 5 star safety ratings. Same again with side impact, I’d rather be sitting in the wife’s merc with 9 airbags / air curtains than a torana

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Because it features an old (Euro 5), weak (low power and torque) engine and it offers low ground clearance and, in my opinion, copied design elements from other utes. Also, these JACs are not selling well in China yet they are being sent over to Australia, which is very questionable in my view - 15 years experience as a motoring journalist.
If you've had a good experience with the GWM, well done. That's great. I never said it was a lemon. I said the front suspension is terrible and needs further tuning to keep up with the current segment standards, in my opinion.
PS. If you read correctly, the thumbnail for this video specifically asks a question: "Another lemon hazard?"

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, but according to Redbook data (based on what people have actually sold their vehicles for), the HiLux drops only 25-30% of its value after 5 years. Brands like LDV and GWM (other like-minded 'value' brands) drop around 50%. In other words, that HiLux you're referring to will still be worth around $41,000 after 5 years. My professional opinion is that this T9 will be selling for around $20,000-25,000 on the used car market after 5 years.
That's without investigating other ownership experiences such as after-sales care, service availability and dealer network, long-term reliability. All of these areas are still an unknown in Australia, which is always a challenge for any new brand.
It will be interesting to see how it goes. If they can stick with it and keep pushing like MG, and even Hyundai-Kia in their early years, I have no doubt they will succeed.

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Depreciation is not made up. It is literally the value of the car when it's time to sell, based on what vehicles have sold for. According to recent data from Redbook in Australia, car brands from emerging markets are not holding their value as well as some of the established models. Let me give you an example:
2018 Toyota HiLux SR5 automatic (main top spec)
      Price when new: $56,440
Resale value today (official guide): $40,050-$44,200 (avg: $42,125)
Depreciation: $14,315, or a loss of 25.3% on new car price
2018 LDV T60 LUXE auto (main top spec)
      Price when new: $36,831
Resale value today: $16,900-$19,100 (avg: $18,000)
      Depreciation: $18,831, or a loss of 51.1%
And yes, completely agree, Chinese cars are definitely getting there and I have no doubt the standards in engineering and design will be up to scratch in the near future. But the future isn't here yet.

Drove from JHB to … Long Roads at 120,140 6.5l per 100, the Biodegradable wiring was the biggest problem as most Merc owners can add this was the most amazing car, I owned other than my 1.8 Corsa Utility

Own 3 , Lack of ABS is a Major Problem, Service Parts well over priced, but I fount the use 99% of the H100 braking system and reast is old Isuzu, and the So-Called Manufactures Warranty is a Jock as the cover reduces after each service

The Fuel use was a Jock to my old Jeep, long roads 12+ per km/100 3 Engen replacements, 2 gear box replacements, hell the repairs cost more then the actual car so the insurance wrote it off after the 4th Engen replacement
Stupid Question next time you are looking at buying a new or second-hand car please think about the following
    1. Total cost of owner ship Cost of the Car + Maintenance + Insurance
    a. E.g. buying an EV, will the Insurance cover the replacement Cost of the Battery Back? All you need to is to google and you will find the cost to replace a battery pack is more then buying a new car
    b. EV’s are city Cars as there are no Charging Points in the Bush, “ Cyber Truck, New Discovery, you need a Computer tech just to start them after a Battery fault so not a off road Car at all
    c. Most car Manufactures do not understand overlanding 18” mags with 2” tyres do not work
    d. E.g. my fossil fuel truck can to 400mils to the Galon and I can carry extra fuel, my EV can do 400miles as well but can’t carry extra fuel
    i. My EV car Can do 400miles on the Road and my fossil fuel car can do the same 10l per 100, but when off road that changes as the terrain requires more power so from 10l per 100 you look at 30l per 100
ii. There are no charge points in the Sahara
iii. They and find an internet connection or charge point in the out back for your EV so why build cars that does not have real world application other then to create more Waste.
    e. I got an EV as it is the Trend and IS more Environmentally Friendly ? IT IS NOT. Just to create 1 battery creates more CO2 then a V8 Patrol car,
    The Truth about EV’s
    a. To make a Battery pack for 1 EV creates 300% C02 then a Petrol V8 of the live span of 10yr
    1. it takes child labour in 3rd world countries to mine the Mineral’s
    2. once Minded all the Minerals are shipped to China (More CO2)
    3. the chemicals used to extract the Luit him is 100% more Damaging to the environment
    4. one the Extraction is done the Materials have to be shipped to the Manufactures via Ship, Rail, Truks (More CO2)
    5. Then you still need the other Mineral’s as metal, and more to create 1 Battery (More CO2)
    6. then you still must take in account all the other materials to and CO2 in the prosses to build the car
    b. as the proud new owner of an EV you feel Great
    1. where does the power to charge it come form
    i. Wind ? do you know how much CO2 is used to create a Wind Turbine that 99% of the unit is none recycle creating more landfill waste
ii. the next option is Coal, Gas, Diesel, Petrol 500% more CO2 then a V8
iii. Solor is the Answer ? the best solo panel gives you max 20% use per sqm, and 99% of the Pannal is general waste to land fill
    c. a well mana gage Nuclear power plant create an almost 0 CO2 foot print to generate Power
Yes, this can lead to harm if not Managed correctly but it more infirmity friendly
And when you take the new technologies in account the better option
    d. As a Farmer Based on current EV technology, I will have to use the Grid 7 times a day to charge 1 Tractor to Plow a field
adding and creating even more CO2 to make fogies, and adding 7 more hours to the day,
on the off seasons I like to explore our Country, but there are no charging stations in the bush, only in city’s
well known thicket 99% of you have not even travel out of your home state or city where you get all the charge points

    e. there is this group who only eat veggies, as they will cry over an animal getting killed
to make you’re a grade Figgis we must use Cimices that kill all Bugs, Animals, and Humans
the only way not to kill all life is Hydroponics with cost 300% more the normal farming
    I am A V; I eat V I drive V; therefore, I AM ?
I have this word called #Green Washing
How can you add a TAX on the Use of the Sun
How can you add a TAX on the Use of Water
How can you add a TAX on the Use of Air
How can you add a TAX on Animals for Farting, when you don’t TAX your Self ? the Fart TAX Echt must pay
When Government officials travel with 3 or more cars should they not pay CO2 Tax, then they charge CO2 tax to everyone else from their own Pockets
