you know them life improvement bros who are like: you got the time to watch 4h of netflix/youtube/twitch a day, but not enough time to work out/invest/whatever dumb thing they're tryna sell advice for to you? yeah when I watch shit like this is the only time I ask myself if they're not a little bit right (answer's always no but still)
Speaking of, if you DIDN'T know, he's actually got a short film on there i found out about recently. Dragonslayer doppelganger. Highly recommend checking it out, its like 10+ years old and glorious
Found the cursed 'breathalyzer' doorknob through Lens, it was apparently a half-disassembled doorknob on a Stack Exchange post by a guy trying to figure out how to repair it with no visible screws or other clear way to remove it from the door. xD
This makes my little industrial design brain so happy. You’re very right about the design of everyday things. Good design usually goes unnoticed because it makes sense and you don’t have to think about it. Bad design is noticed for being bad and it makes you think about it which is generally unpleasant. I this sounds really stupid but my goal as an industrial designer is to try to design things that fit seamlessly into people’s everyday lives.
I've gotta say, I hated the square knobs when I first saw them, but the lock and door itself have a verrry satisfying feel that makes up for the odd hand hold.
I've been worried NL has been losing his touch. I have never been so happy to be proven wrong. THIS! This is the quality of videos I subscribed for. I have not been this excited since the grocery tier list.
We had the hotel door handles when I was rooming in the military, the one with the electronic key reader, and it drove me to insanity. Stuff sometimes just doesn't work, had to get my key replaced several times, and the perfect cherry on top was the apparatus was loosely affixed. Also the brass doorknobs make your hands smell weird.
I work in hospitality and I wanted to update everyone about the fine art of the hoteldoor. We moved up to the NFC card reader/digital key ON YOUR PHONE combo. You just open a link we send trough the mail, put it on your homescreen and swipe left to open your lock. When we check you out the link stops working so it's safe too!
bro talked for an hour about doorknobs and interior design. Unironically elite content because its still entertaining even if i dont care about doorknobs in a vacuum
I remember when I gave Bing AI a description of a channel that I wanted to watch and it recommended me this channel. This is one of my favorite tier list of all time now
Honestly, had a really long day. I sat down to eat my burnt personal lasagne and opened YT to see this tier list video and it got a strong audible ha ha from me.
Seeing a title like this and it not being a meme highlight video or some other hyperbole brings me immense joy. Especially when I don't think I've seen more than 4 types of knobs of the door
The shower controls in my apartment suck. It's got four handles (two for shower, two for bath), and it's like the worst part of those dial showers. The cold faucet has about a millimeter of space between it adding nothing to the stream thereby leaving the water scalding and completely overwhelming the hot, dousing you with ice water.
Glad this video was about both doorknobs and interior design. Hard to believe someone could do a doorknob tier list without mentioning interior design.
Round knobs are top tier. When I want to open a door I want to grab it and twist. Not have to position my hand a certain way like with twisting handles. However there’s a caveat, that is if it’s outside and gets cold I want a handle so my hand doesn’t slip on the knob. If we’re talking inside brass round knob is the goat.
I was so happy to see this uploaded because i have a very strong opinion on door handles/knobs yet so dissatisfied with the ranking of the crystal knob. He put the metal knobs in B tier and the crystal one in basically the same but with a key difference. You got to remember all the times you try to open a door and get a little electric shock. With the crystal knob this will never happen to you. Crystal/Glass knobs and handles are at least one tier higher then their metal counterparts (if these don’t have any special quality’s) just for that.
I was a creative director / lead game designer in computer games for many years. I would always recommend "The Design of Everyday Things" to everyone who wanted to be a designer.
1. that's really not what he's talking about at 1:15:50 , he's talking about bad faith takes people post on twitter comparing buildings that are obviously completely different in function 2. NL thinks modern minimalistic building designs ARE nice living spaces, which is a reasonable subjective take
Yeah ok ill dedicate an hour to this
Honestly? Same.
me dedicating my 2nd hour to this after already watching it on twitch
you know them life improvement bros who are like: you got the time to watch 4h of netflix/youtube/twitch a day, but not enough time to work out/invest/whatever dumb thing they're tryna sell advice for to you? yeah when I watch shit like this is the only time I ask myself if they're not a little bit right (answer's always no but still)
jesse what the fuck are you talking about
Put it on 0.5x speed and dedicate just over 2hrs
This is proof that some people will watch anything with NLs voice slapped over it
How am I supposed sleep without it
I'm willing to pay good money to hear this man talk about literally anything. The less attention paid to the subject itself the better.
its me😊
I know him well, he's me
Of course I know him, he’s me
"i actually have some strong feelings on doors" absolutely no lies were told
Hello library
ranking every console ever: i sleep
ranking every doorknob ever: REAL SHIT
1 hr 17 minutes of being a knob-snob is the content i live for
nothing better than slobbing some knobs
The content king is back at it again with these hit bangers.
Never have I felt as deprived of a shower knobs tierlist
Ah yes. What we've all been waiting for. A deep dive conversation about doorknobs
7 minutes into the video, one doorknob down, you already know the controversy is crazy.
> "We have reached the bottom of the content barrel and I'm gonna plow right through that and see what's below even that."
Fuck yeah! LET'S GO!
This video is almost feature film length. Deserves a spot on letterboxd.
NL ranking doorknobs and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari are the same length lol
Speaking of, if you DIDN'T know, he's actually got a short film on there i found out about recently. Dragonslayer doppelganger. Highly recommend checking it out, its like 10+ years old and glorious
@@und3c1ph3r3d Oh shit you're right! I have to log that instantly
I genuinely don't think he can reach a higher content peak than this. This is simply unbeatable.
I dont want to spoil anything but something better is yet to come
NL the kinda guy to give you a high five if you're drowning to save your self esteem
It was hard to explain to my mom what she was interrupting when she called me.
My psychiatrist told me to organize better my time, but man, this guy sure it's making it hard for me with these tierlists
I cannot believe I am going to watch this and enjoy every second of it
Found the cursed 'breathalyzer' doorknob through Lens, it was apparently a half-disassembled doorknob on a Stack Exchange post by a guy trying to figure out how to repair it with no visible screws or other clear way to remove it from the door. xD
NL really do be the type of guy to have his house appear in a tweet that says "do men really live like this??"
WHAT THE HECK!? How was I not consulted for this!?
Bro jackbox and the definitive ranking of all doorknobs an hour after another were eating GOOD tonight
This makes my little industrial design brain so happy. You’re very right about the design of everyday things. Northernlion is a genius when it comes to making any subject entertaining on the fly.
This is peak content. I unironically love this.
NL's nail is growing back! Nature is healing!!!🎉
I work in hospitality and I wanted to update everyone about the fine art of the hoteldoor. We moved up to the NFC card reader/digital key ON YOUR PHONE combo. You just open a link we send trough the mail, put it on your homescreen and swipe left to open your lock. When we check you out the link stops working so it's safe too!
these tierlists are some unhinged content and i love it
bro talked for an hour about doorknobs and interior design. Unironically elite content because its still entertaining even if i dont care about doorknobs in a vacuum
I remember when I gave Bing AI a description of a channel that I wanted to watch and it recommended me this channel. This is one of my favorite tier list of all time now
Now this is what I‘ve been waiting for, stay pegged everyone
Honestly, had a really long day. I sat down to eat my burnt personal lasagne and opened YT to see this tier list video and it got a strong audible ha ha from me.
Finally the video I've been waiting for that is from a year ago
This is unironically my favorite type of content from NL
Someone suggest ranking chairs to this man, he would go off
Cereal
3:20 "I was here yesterday, it does both"
If you ever got a belt loop stuck on a lever door knob, you would know the evil of that knob style.
Finally, someone who gets me and my complicated thoughts on door opening aparatus.
An immediate all timer
"Listen, I'm not the type of guy to positively describe something as cozy, necessarily."
What a sentence
These are actuslly the most insane NL takes I've ever heard. I am not sure he is cooking.
can confirm, the buttons are indeed unsatisfying to press, and also scary when the wrong person gets a hold of the code 😮
8:25 "This is a tier list that's for fun". Deeply offended that NL could say this on the awfully serious and important topic of doorknob rankings.
"b*tch no one lives in Notre Dame" I've been watching this man for ten years and I feel vindicated constantly
The man describes Industrial every time he opines about his ideal house aesthetic then put Industrial in B tier.
this is the most important thing I could be doing with my time right now
Seven minutes and thirty seconds and we get to the first mention of item number two. Content king, the anecdote Andy can't be stopped.
Seeing a title like this and it not being a meme highlight video or some other hyperbole brings me immense joy. Especially when I don't think I've seen more than 4 types of knobs of the door
He goes where no one has ever gone before
NL describing Costco as "a little more exclusive" was so funny to me. Costco being described as exclusive in any context sends me 💀
Costco is super exclusive. It costs money to shop there, and you need a car to shop there (in most cities)
The shower controls in my apartment suck. It's got four handles (two for shower, two for bath), and it's like the worst part of those dial showers. The cold faucet has about a millimeter of space between it adding nothing to the stream thereby leaving the water scalding and completely overwhelming the hot, dousing you with ice water.
seeing 47 minutes left and 1 doorknob left what a rush
Glad this video was about both doorknobs and interior design. Hard to believe someone could do a doorknob tier list without mentioning interior design.

I'm shook this took an hour to make this, then again considering its Northernlion, I'm shocked it didn't take longer
I was there for that stream where Kate lit you up. I was sick with COVID and dying of laughter at her Microsoft paint drawing of your hairy thumb
Am I gonna watch almost 1.5h vid of bald man ranting about door handles? Fuck yes, this is just what I needed today
There's 6 doorknobs left, and the video is roughly 25% finished. What's gonna happen here
This is peak NL content. More tier lists!!
Ranking Canadian provinces and territories next please.
The man has fully lost his mind with this tier list but I'm feeling all pegged up for it.
Those who can banter about door handles on a first encounter are a different breed of human.
I was so happy to see this uploaded because i have a very strong opinion on door handles/knobs yet so dissatisfied with the ranking of the crystal knob. I remember when you would rank lunch meat during the nlss with the boys. All having the same pants size. Now doorknobs. Im excited to see whats next.
i hope this gets popular so you have to suffer more shit like this, i know i love it
This is it. We've reached the peak. There will never be a more NL video than this one. The magnum opus is finally upon us.
The rumors of a content drought have been greatly exaggerated
"what is art nouveau" the name of Kajagoogoo before Limahl joined
egg creates content out of thin air
I was a creative director / lead game designer in computer games for many years. I would always recommend "The Design of Everyday Things" to everyone who wanted to be a designer.
I hope this video becomes archived for future historians to take part of.
A handle that rotates has one giant detriment. Velociraptors can get them open. Circle nobs are automatically better for that reason alone.
Gaming is over. In-depth discussion of household items, now that’s where it’s at!
I was sweating bullets waiting for the card reader ranking. Now I feel like all is right in the world.
There's actually a whole German song I know about the topic of showers being too complicated, lmao
Honey wake up, the shopping cart tier just got surpassed by a door knob tier
this is un HINGED
My favourite NL genre is most mundane items tier list. I'm expecting it to be on the same banger level as shopping carts.
This VOD was hilarious, hope these videos do well enough to justify more of the nonsense hinted at in the chair tier list lol
Seeing him make the Interior Design tier list felt like watching a lactose intolerant make a cheese tier list, bro HATES interior design
I saw a doorknob like this once... centuries ago
There are only around 20 doorknobs and he took over an hour to rank them, yeah this video is going to be good
thanks for your endless yapping, NL.
I still want a nl food review 😩. Just imagine the family dinner. It would be adorable
Oh, you're a door? Name every knob.
as always Ryan Gary, you came in clutch with the content
So true bestie, stay pegged king.
NL's defense of hideous steel buildings is his most insane take in recent memory. Wanting a nice living space isn't strange
1. that's really not what he's talking about at 1:15:50 , he's talking about bad faith takes people post on twitter comparing buildings that are obviously completely different in function
2. NL thinks modern minimalistic building designs ARE nice living spaces, which is a reasonable subjective take
Okay he is actually so based for the tangent at 1:15:50
Doorknob tier list from NL, I absolutely love it but is this post-ironic tier list or post-post-irony tier list? Here for all the NL tier lists
Out here not making the content we want but the content we need
Amazing how enjoyable this is
26 minutes in, what the hell, how can he make this entertaining? been watching him for years and he still surprises me with stuff like this.
The titles are so simple their gold
Someone get this video to Don Norman
Two doorknobs left to rank and there's 40 minutes left in the video. Sweet Neptune.
Edit: he pivoted to shower heads, by the Gods
remote control tier list
Watched this live, gonna watch it again
Honey wakeup the new doorknob tier list is out!
