  • Walk-through on how to swap your standard jet engine fan for a silent one. This is for Lorex 8 Channel POE 4k Ultra HD NVR. You will need to purchase a NOCTUA NF-A4x20 FLX premium-quality quiet 40mm fan for the swap. www.amazon.com...
    Also to Soldier the wires I've included a link • How to Solder Wires To... . Or just twist ties them like I did.

    Thanks for the fan part number. Ordered one.
    Another quick fix is to take the fan out, peel back the label, put a drop of oil on the bearing and put the label back on.

    There was no need to splice it, take a needle or something else with a small tip and you can release the pins from the plug and arrange them as needed. The 2, 3, and 4 pin plugs will plug into the 2 pin receptacle.

      @@adriancitort The 2,3&4 pin connectors will physically fit into the 2 conductor plug. Position them as needed by releasing the pins with a paperclip. I'm replying by memory so if this isn't clear enough I'll re-watch the video and reply, hopefully, more clearly.

    my Lorex DVR sounded like a diesel, I sprayed some WD40 from the outside several times and completely cured the problem. Two weeks now and it is silente than ever!!

      More than likely you lubricated the bearings.Glad it works. Seeing as how WD40 is still patented. I'm not sure WD40 is conductible. So I wouldn't recommend.

    I pulled my fan out and flipped it over so it blows in. Then I sniped the grid off and trimmed it so 100% of the fan blade is uncovered. This is good for about a 40% reduction in noise.

      @lobes187 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After 2 years, how's that working out for you?

    • @eltonnoway5692
      @eltonnoway5692 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lobes187 As others have indicated, flipping the fan over does help reduce the noise somewhat... but I wouldn't recommend it. Once flipped you care now sucking unfiltered air and dust "into" the machine. Over time it can cause components, processors, HDD's etc to over heat or fail due to dust collecting on them. If you do decide to flip the fan then you should plan on going through the hassle of taking the unit apart every 6 months or so to blow out all the dirt and dust bunnies.

    🇨🇮 You are very good to come back to me, I had to give up and reinstall the original fan. The Noctua fan would not run for me. It just move slightly and then stop. I had tried 2 different fans without any luck. Many thanks again.

    • @ericlawrence2275
      @ericlawrence2275 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same behavior for my NVR. I contacted Noctua last year, they only replied to say their fan does not support the low startup voltage of the delta power supply. I use vacuum hose to reach in my server cabinet to suck/start my Noctua fan and then it runs fine. My NVR is on a UPS but if power goes out long enough maybe it will start after a minute or two. Next time i pull my Lorex NVR out, I may replace power supply fan with a 5V USB version similar to comment from Javier. Also replaced the 40mm x 10mm with Noctua fan on the mother board and it starts up no problems.

    How has cooling been as that was the reason I didn't install it in my related video documenting the noise output of the same NVR? Initially I thought it would be a good match as I misread the specs of the NOCTUA NF-A4x20 FLX vs the stock DELTA EBF 0412 HHD. Was OK with the RPM drop from 8200 to 5000 as figured that is what set up the 14.9dB vs the 30.5dB. Misread airflow as saw 9.4 and 9.43 but didn't realize was 9.4 m3h vs 9.43 CFM. When I caught that as I was about to assemble, the conversion is 9.4 m3h = 5.53 CFM which is about a 40% reduction in airflow. That is when I was afraid it wouldn't cool enough for the engineered specs. I did notice the 2 pin vs 3 pin but didn't get that far.
    I looked for other 3rd party fans that were low dB but couldn't find any with the airflow. As a result, yesterday I requested a return (4 days before the 60 day window) and will probably build out a minimal Core i5/i7 machine with Blue Iris dedicated to cameras or if the NVR route purchase the Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 unit who appears to build them for Lorex but the version without the internal power supply. With either the computer/Blue Iris or the NVR would use an external fanless PoE switch as it is the convenience of the internal PoE capable switch that creates the problem. That should be very quiet.

    • @ivraalia
      @ivraalia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I've built computers before. I built the one I'm typing on right now, and its silent. Might be something I consider in the future.
      What software would I use to control the cameras? How would I connect 8 more ports?

    • @LarryGrayPhotography
      @LarryGrayPhotography 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A great source of info is ipcamtalk forum. There are 2 approaches. 1) build a dedicated computer running 24/7 (unlike your normal computer) and can be very basic not requiring high end graphic cards, etc. While there are others, Blue Iris (PC only - not Mac) is the preferred software then add an external network switch that has enough PoE (Power over Internet) ports as you require. Careful, may see 8 port switch but only 4 are PoE so read the specs and realize one port will be monopolized for router linkage so will lose it for a camera. They make some switches that are fanless - up to 16 ports, but most have fans with power requirements above 16 ports mandating fans. Other computers (and Macs) can read remotely with the free NVR software. That is probably the route I am going as it will also let you do other things that the cameras are capable of yet the NVR blocks as not programed in. The other option is the 'simpler' NVR solution. The one reference earlier is actually a 16 port unit but there are no ports built in - just the one network connector and missing the internal power supply with the noisy fan. It would use the same PoE switches as the computer based system as you have essentially moved that portion out of the NVR box and the NVR software is what limits it to 16 cameras. There is a cloesly related Dahua NVR5216-16P-4KS2 model that has the 16 ports built in as well as the same power supply which is what the 16P designates.

    Hello ivaalia. Have you had any problems with your NVR since replacing the fan? I put the same fan in as you did today. It is definitely silent, but no where near the same air flow. Maybe you really don't need as much as flow as the other fan provided. I do believe that you may have put the fan in backwards though. On mine, the label side was the outflow. I could feel it blowing from that side. I assume the fan should draw air from the outside and blow inward??

    • @ivraalia
      @ivraalia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brian! I haven't had. Any issues with the NVR since making this video. I don't remember which way I installed the fan. I'd have to watch the video or check the unit when I get home. Inwards or outwards have been a debate for a long time. There are videos of people doing tests to see which is the best orientation. It's really a matter of dust getting into the unit with either too much negative or positive pressure with the orientation of the fans. That's usually with large computer cases with multiple fans. Since this is two small fans, with one being enclosed for the power supply. I think I chose to have the pressure negative and blowing out. Again, I'd have to double check. It should be fine either way.

      I believe the benefits for the 12v is that if you need the fan to spin faster it’s more capable. I doubt you’ll need to though. That NVR doesn’t have fan speed controls.

      The red and black wire are the circuit, and the yellow wire is for speed control I believe. The unit only has one fan speed so the yellow wire isn't used.
