I believe his mother may not have died through child birth, because one of the horses at his birthday party has a sewn stomach. May also just be because of Salad Fingers brain damage but still.
He probably has PTSD, causing him to go into a state of psychosis and develop DID. His way of coping was through finger puppets and theater, since multiple times he mentioned he was a singer. I personally think this series was his trip to recovery, earning him feeling accepted by his family for who he is. Aka; him recovering, and his family opening their arms to him due to his recovery. The hat, in my opinion, symbolizes a trophy of some sort due to his recovery. It has the face of (most likely) the person who helped him through his states of PTSD and Mental disorders, Milford. Whether he was a Doctor, Nurse, or even a best friend, he's the man who helped Salad cope and recover the most. That's my theory on the matter, it could be completely wrong but I like the idea.
I love the salad fingers series it really represents the broken human mind and just how powerful the mind itself. Its like a lens, either you see whats there clearly or its distorted and its not the same compared to whats actually there like its cracked, or should I say, Broken. Salad fingers has experienced so much pain and he reenacts it in a way maybe to cope with it or feel alive instead of internally dead because of memories.. This series is disturbing but truthful in a heavily metaphoric way and I love it and how it represents our phsycologic "lens". it really leaves a lot of mystery

"Jeremy Fisher" is the name of a character from one of the books written by Beatrix Potter, an English writer from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. She died in the 1940's.
And the name fisher is like Sal fisher from the game Sally face but salad fingers is before the game but the game is like weird (but 4 me is awsome) and with a deep i May say story
Matt, you may never see this, but I wanted to share something deeply personal. I’ve struggled with insomnia for years, suffering in silence and unable to find relief. A few years ago, while watching your videos, I came across one that helped me sleep through the night for the first time. Since then, I’ve watched ypur videos every night to fall asleep. Your voice has been a constant source of comfort, helping me through many sleepless nights when I felt exhausted and frustrated. No one else seemed to understand, but you were always there, helping me find rest. To this day, I still listen to your voice to fall asleep. Thank you for making such a meaningful difference in my life.
I swear to god the house will be quiet all fucking day but the MOMENT i go to listen to a youtube video someone crashes their car, a meteorite strikes the house, harpies begin shrieking...
Hah! I know, right? I'm watching this video close to midnight and suddenly one of my neighbours decided it's a lovely hour to drill some holes in the wall. I'm so confused by their choice I cannot even muster the strenght to be angry.
I love Salad Fingers. It hurts my brain trying to figure out how someone can tell such a deep story (whether matpat’s version or a different one) through such a bizarre looking show. As an artist myself, I could never have thought of something like this. The reason for how people can even think of these things is just impossible to come up with. The human mind is truly incredible.
After watching salad fingers, its amazing to me how a story can be so deep yet horrifying and disgusting at the same time. (When i say disgusting i mean stuff like the sound effects , imagery. )
@@fkdjdjcmckdjdjf3728 no, that's not at all what he said. He said as a soldier, you would not be at sea, hense the episode title "Shore Leave" not making sense.
Sure enough. "Don't believe what that film theorist tells you" episode 11 coming. Which makes sense since the first 10 were spread over 10 or so years. No reason to not expect a gap.
I always partially wondered if the inspiration for salad fingers came from psychological cases that have been documented and then turned into a animated series. This analysis just makes me feel even stronger about this. Either someone's own psychological problems, or those documented of a patient that were just so mind boggling that they made for a great twisted cartoon. Just a thought, A FILM THOUGHT!!!
maybe Milford cubicle is one of the enemy soldiers of the war and the hat was made of his skin to symbolize that salad fingers realizes the war is over.
Dain Boswell this makes sense. Salad hangs him up in his house. always keeping him there, always keeping the memory of the war with him until something happens and the memory of the war changes. The body turns into a skeleton.
This is my theory: Once upon a time, there was a black soldier named Jeremy that fell in love with a red-headed white female. When the girl's father found out about their relationship, he killed Jeremy and lied to his daughter that he ran away. But it was to late. His daughter was pregnant with Hubert (Salad Fingers) and Kennet. The girl died during the birth, but the children survived. Hubert and Kennet were raised by their mother's sister, that hatet them because of their skin cocor. Then the WW1 started. The brothers went to fight for their country. The other soldiers in their plutoon nicknamed Hubert Salad Fingers because of his long and slender fingers. In the war, his brother and his bestfriends died, maybe in front of him, maybe not. When the war finished, Hubert was all alone. His own family had died. And then, he fell in love with a girl that gave him a baby. The girl ran away and let Hubert, A veteran with PTSD, all alone to take care of the baby. He couldn't raise the child nor let him with his aunt because he was scared. What if she will raise the baby how she raised Hubert and Kennet? So Hubert killed the baby. And in the end, at the table, there were Kennet and their friends. The plutoon. All dead. Hubert was happy. His family is with him, eating together, maybe Hubert's own sanity, but he was happy. He could die happy. And in the end, I think that he died all alone and because of that he could be with his friend at that table. But hey! That's just a theory!
What if the people at the table are his family that did in the bombing of London and the disfigurements are the injuries the suffered. That could be the point of onset for his PTSD.
Im actually more interested in the umbilical cord thing Also i dont know if you noticed, but the "podridge" in episode 11 is the exact same as the "box of friends" in the 1 million special? Perhaps it decribes how he thinks his friends make him vomit and people around him poison him?
3:40 That one was CRAZY, I had no idea they connected so well, When I saw salad fingers at the toliet talking to himself I was confused and puzzled, and for jeremy I thought salad finger was just saying nonsense
*I have a theory for the new episode of SF, so if you don't wish for spoilers, look away.* My theory is that the plot of Episode 11 is of Salad's memory as a legitimate father, who I'll refer to as Hubert for the remainder of this theory, and the memory of a possible custody battle between him and his family over Hubert's son, Hubert Cumberdale Jr. Somewhere along down the line, Hubert found himself a wife and had a child with, Hubert Jr, with his "flesh-boy" as a substitute. The reason that he refers to Hubert Jr. as a "new and improved Hubert Cumberdale" is that he has hopes and aspirations of Hubert Jr. being a better and more successful person than him, due to potential self-hatred from the constant bullying from his family. Hubert Jr. also shares Hubert's love for show tunes, which was probably handed down from his father, Jeremy, as Hubert Jr's dream is to be a dancer. While Hubert's family treated him with disdain and cruelty, they showed an odd affection towards Hubert Jr. It eventually came to a head when Hubert's mother and father tried to claim custody of Hubert Jr, with the help of Hubert's older brother. After Hubert's mother won, Hubert Jr. lives with them until Hubert eventually fights and regains custody of his son, resulting in even more hatred from his family. After this, Hubert almost effectively cuts them out of his life, yet he holds a fond image of his mother, as seen when Hubert puts the last shard of the mirror in a chest with a soft, purple pillow at the bottom. This theory can also play into why Hubert has memories of Kenneth as a Great War veteran. He doesn't want the image of his brother to seem negative to his son or outsiders, and possibly even to himself. He makes up grandiose stories of Kenneth being in the Great War, of all the good memories they had together, etc. etc. The reason Hubert might refer to his mother and brother as "glass mother" and "glass brother" is because he never had a real connection to his family, that there was a "barrier" of sorts between him and the rest of his family, like a window of sorts.
When I watched the whole series (an hour ago) I thought that Salad fingers couldn't make it to the war, where his loved ones (like kenneth) died. Now, knowing that kenneth probably died young and his other loved ones probably also weren't in the war, I think that salad fingers might have convinced himself that everything was lost in war, when he was the one who lost himself/his mind.
This is sooooo accurate! Salad fingers even turns Hubert Cumberdale into 'a real boy' on episode 11 but he doesn't abandon him, he actually saves him and you see his family! This is so confusing and I have no idea how it links to the other episodes! I need another theory to explain this!
There is soooo much evidence it blows my mind... Like the spliced conversation that actually makes sense yet the creator says it's wrong? Sounds to me like this hit very close to home
Alexander S. exactly! He said something like, "Oh look, you brought the platoon here." That probably symbolizes his war buddies when he was in World War 1 and that's why they are in the hospital too because they've gone insane just like him.
And salad. It's composed of a lot of different vegetables. There's another theory in the comments that the table of other Salad Fingers is actually other veterans, hence saying "the whole platoon" was there. And, if that's actually the case(alongside considering someone so mentally broken would be in a facility in reality), the "salad" could be the absent company of other soldiers whose mental faculties and grasp of reality has long left them. But also just a theory. A film theory.
Even tho david Firth denounced this theory saying it’s way off, you gotta cut matpat some slack because what he’s presented does make sense in the context he’s presented it in
Nathanx2000 when/where did he denounce it? I’m not saying your wrong or anything I just wanna watch the full explanation because it’s cool that he’s seen it and acknowledged it and am excited to see what this could mean for salad fingers
waffle person yeah, I mean, I love to think about theories for salad, but maybe the creator just made this with no story intended? He just rolled with whatever the fuck was in his head, and people started theorising about it. Could be true, what do you think?
the doctor was probably just as rough to the mother of Salad Fingers because in those times it might have been hard to find a doctor to help birth an African American baby, also at this part, 11:54, he says that Salad Fingers' mom dies in childbirth but its more likely to be a "C" section being in this part Horace is back with a sewed up side But hey thats just a theory... A GAME THEORY
Mmmm love Coraline, seen the stop motion film which is amazing and read the book, the movie did so well on bringing it to life. I hope they do one on Coraline as well I'd like to see what their take on it was. ^^
There is a surprisingly large amount of lore to the Filthy Frank show lol I'd actually be really interested in seeing something like this that could put it all in line.
BeardedButtCrack I watched it since it was released. I used to be a flash developer so I was always coming across funny and interesting uses. This is one of the best. I remember showing it to my 9 year old daughter and she loved it too so it spans ages. Everyone likes a little wierd.
So, to summarize: During WWI, a black soldier impregnated a white woman in the UK and, after the woman died during childbirth, gave the baby (Saladfingers) to its aunty and fled to France, because he didn't wanne care for him. The aunty was cold towards the baby because of his heritage. Then later, Saladfingers became a father, the mother left him alone with the baby and he gave the baby away, because he wasn't able to care for it. Also, his brother died. Right?
Well, it's likely that Salad Fingers' maternal grandfather killed Salad Fingers' father because he had sex with Salad Fingers' mother. It's possible that Salad Fingers was then told his father went to France, but eventually found out the truth.
The father being dead/having run away makes sense. If the aunt raised the half and half child, she's be just as disgusted with the father as she would with the child. She'd wish the father was dead, or think he was better off dead and would refer to him as such. Or it could be the opposite. The aunt tells the child his father ran away because he couldn't look after him, but he'd actually been killed by the child's grandfather. In that time, people would happily just accept that kind of excuse because the majority didn't care about non-white people.
yeah, I'd say it does support matpat's theory there. salad fingers being like the father to hubert(who is allegedly salad fingers) and trying to take care of him. the new and improved hubert cumberdail also said something about wanting to dance on the rooftops, which is kinda like singing, they're both forms of entertainment.
Looking back on it, I always found it really satisfying that the creator didn't actually have a story in mind. He just made it to make it, and honestly that's why salad fingers is good in my opinion. It didn't really need a story
i was looking for this god damned comment so i didn't have to look for the time cause that jumpscare scared me so much. did i mention it's 1 am and i'm wrapped in my blanket?
Theory about why the hat is Milford Cubicle’s skin: Milford could have been Salad Fingers’s (a.k.a Hubert) best friend who also died, maybe because of the war, and the hat was made for Hubert because of his loss of a best friend, and to Hubert it looked as if the hat was made of Milford’s skin, therefore making it so that Hubert never gets over losing his best friend. Do u ppl like the theory?
Even though Salad Fingers is a weird series, I like his voice. It relaxes me a bit but I don't have the guts to watch it from the clips you had shown us (Yes, I am aware you had dared us in the first part but eh). I do promise myself that I will watch 'Salad Fingers' when I am older. I love spooky/unsettling shows but this a bit too intense for me. Thanks for opening my eyes to this series.
My theory why salad fingers is so...off is because when his brother died he was so down about and mad that he killed himself and still roams the earth in search of his brother
Well, Having worked at a nursing home, the frame of the story to me is this is the mind of somebody with severe dementia. Salad Fingers has suffered some sort of stroke, and is trapped in this nightmare of incoherent memory resurgence. I think the details in this analysis is right, but the framing should be an old lady in the nursing home. Salad fingers is the mother.
Well, how come his eyes changed from red to yellow in that one scene? :0 Edit: I got a Theroy about this! When his eyes are yellow, they are representing a mom talking, but when his eyes are red, he's representing a dad, just for the scene on the bed. This is because Salad Fingers says"Bottles nappies smiles and wee, to my heart you found the key. Blah blah blah blah blah." Then, he brings it up to his face, saying "Ah, you got your mother's eyes. And she was a fair maiden too.." which is something a father would probably say. that's all I got. Also, listen to him say *HAD.* Which means whoever's the mom is dead.
Shaky Tabluno -Please don't refer to him as Hubert,- also that couldn't be true. I thought it was the same, but when he was in the middle of talking, it even switched. Example: his eyes where Yellow when he said "Bottles nappies Smiles and wee, to my heart you found the key- Baby Yvonne is born today, the heavens say she's here to stay." Then they turn red when he says "ah, you got your mother's eyes"
My sister showed me this when we were teenagers, the theory at the time was that the war ended with earth dying (a nuke or smthn) and the few survivors were turned into mutants, but it all being his PTSD does make alot more sense, i think.

I don't really know why, but when MatPat was telling the 'story' around the end of the video, my eyes actually started watering? Like, I felt so bad for Salad Fingers that I was feeling actual sadness from a weird gory flash animation. Come on, I can't be the only one, right?
I believe his mother may not have died through child birth, because one of the horses at his birthday party has a sewn stomach. May also just be because of Salad Fingers brain damage but still.

I always partially wondered if the inspiration for salad fingers came from psychological cases that have been documented and then turned into a animated series. This analysis just makes me feel even stronger about this. dark(deep) theories :(
This is my theory:
Once upon a time, there was a black soldier named Jeremy that fell in love with a red-headed white female.
I think this makes more sense than Matpat's theory.
I love your theory so much.

I don't think Salad Fingers is the one who went to war, since he continously emphasizes how others went to war or left him to join war.
What if the people at the table are his family that did in the bombing of London and the disfigurements are the injuries the suffered. That could be the point of onset for his PTSD.

*I have a theory for the new episode of SF, so if you don't wish for spoilers, look away.*
My theory is that the plot of Episode 11 is of Salad's memory as a legitimate father, who I'll refer to as Hubert for the remainder of this theory, and the memory of a possible custody battle between him and his family over Hubert's son, Hubert Cumberdale Jr.

That's awesome dude, so you found this before they put it on TH-cam?
IDK if you checked out his stuff already but of dog and man is pretty good, he also has some videos with commentary in the pharma industry
So, to summarize:
During WWI, a black soldier impregnated a white woman in the UK and, after the woman died during childbirth, gave the baby (Saladfingers) to its aunty and fled to France, because he didn't wanne care for him. The aunty was cold towards the baby because of his heritage.
Then later, Saladfingers became a father, the mother left him alone with the baby and he gave the baby away, because he wasn't able to care for it.
Also, his brother died.
Right?
yes
Well, it's likely that Salad Fingers' maternal grandfather killed Salad Fingers' father because he had sex with Salad Fingers' mother. It's possible that Salad Fingers was then told his father went to France, but eventually found out the truth.
He lost me when he said Jeremy died, and after that he said Jeremy fled to France.
"Your puppy ran away" "Oh, you're puppy died"
"Jeremy fled to France" "Jeremy is dead"
The father being dead/having run away makes sense. If the aunt raised the half and half child, she's be just as disgusted with the father as she would with the child. She'd wish the father was dead, or think he was better off dead and would refer to him as such. Or it could be the opposite. The aunt tells the child his father ran away because he couldn't look after him, but he'd actually been killed by the child's grandfather. In that time, people would happily just accept that kind of excuse because the majority didn't care about non-white people.
Don't forget the 11th episode in the series, when Hubert becomes a "real flesh boy"
I don’t think that had come out yet
@@knoxboyd5150 ep 11? yes there is

Theory about why the hat is Milford Cubicle’s skin:
Milford could have been Salad Fingers’s (a.k.a Hubert) best friend who also died, maybe because of the war, and the hat was made for Hubert because of his loss of a best friend, and to Hubert it looked as if the hat was made of Milford’s skin, therefore making it so that Hubert never gets over losing his best friend.

Salad fingers is the mother.
k
Titken Toft interesting theory!
why does it have to be the mother?
Could be. Maybe that's why Salad Fingers acts so feminine at times, plus the tit milk.
Titken Toft but hey, that's just a theory.... A film theory
Well, how come his eyes changed from red to yellow in that one scene? :0
Edit: I got a Theroy about this!
What seen
Millie .T hubert was sorta.... dying... slowly... from blood loss
Shaky Tabluno -Please don't refer to him as Hubert,- also that couldn't be true. I thought it was the same, but when he was in the middle of talking, it even switched. Example: his eyes where Yellow when he said "Bottles nappies Smiles and wee, to my heart you found the key- Baby Yvonne is born today, the heavens say she's here to stay." Then they turn red when he says "ah, you got your mother's eyes"

altersack what?
I’m a horror enthusiast, not a lot disturbs me, seeing pretty much everything, and watching the horse dying, left me crying
Why is salad fingers so creepy yet so... relaxing?

You may be experiencing a form of asmr.
Harley Dagel are you alright?
I think it's because she talk slowly and in calm
right
The creator may have said the theory is way off, but I don't see him providing and alternative explanation for this bizarre hellscape of a Web series
Adora Mae Preach! 👐
There are supposedly no explanations.
Explaining it would strip the magic away. Don't strip the magic away.
so does specifically stating certain theories are wrong.
He did??
Matpat watching the horse tearing into the stomach: sad
Matpat watching duck guy( robin) getting eaten alive: normal
Yea cause horse looked sad
@@rhyliewilliams32 the duck was screaming in pain tho 💀
@@dork4270 eh I have more sympathy for the horse over duck, Doi or Harry anyday
The duck was humanoid
My sister showed me this when we were teenagers, the theory at the time was that the war ended with earth dying (a nuke or smthn) and the few survivors were turned into mutants, but it all being his PTSD does make alot more sense, i think.
I laughed so hard at 10:08 when he said hubert cumberdal was supernatural and used a picture of Dean Winchester
Adraine Winchester ikr
I agree, how did i overlook that at first?

Such a relevant series. PTSD, War scars, abortion, domestic abuse, identity and sexuality, racism. It touches on so much.
I don't really know why, but when MatPat was telling the 'story' around the end of the video, my eyes actually started watering? Like, I felt so bad for Salad Fingers that I was feeling actual sadness from a weird gory flash animation.
Come on, I can't be the only one, right?
Same, I felt his pain. ;o;
StrawberryKitten Plays yes
Akira Talia ye
