What is Plagiarism and Why is it Bad?

People know that cheating isn't good, but plagiarism isn't always seen as the same thing. But plagiarism is a big deal in school.

this dosnt explain very well why its bad, all im hearing is "just cause it is" id rather know why its such a big deal than just be told over and over just cause its bad so its bad

I think we might just be Autistic, sounds like all of the reasons are social. I don't see how it would actually harm the spread or use of information. Is someone going to like misuse a centrifuge or get a war started because of it or is it just a trust and status thing?
