XP-Pen stylus issues and how we fixed them

- Recently we got hold of a few XP-Pen/Ugee devices, but unfortunately one of them is not functioning properly. To be precise, it's the 'PA2' pen that came with an Artist 12 Pro pen display that exhibited the issues, as when we switch to using a 'PA1' pen on the same Artist 12 Pro, all is working fine (except for the well-known no-tilt-reading-near-screen-edge issue). The issues were 1. giving full pressure when not touching, 2. toggling eraser on its own, 3. completely not working near screen edges. At times, there were also ghost clicks on the Windows desktop (i.e. not due to pressure reading) but we didn't film it. Anyway, we somehow got these fixed. See how we did it in this video. At a point during the tuning, we had the pressure reading wrapping around its range, but we didn't film it. This is similar to some pressure errors people are showing on XP-Pen forums.
Note: 1. I removed the outer rim around the buttons (at 1:20) by pushing the long sides inward with your fingernail to unlatch it. 2. There's some red glue in the tip cone part (1:13). Just grip it firm and unscrew it. The right direction: ｗhen the tip is pointing towards you, turn the half-cone part anti-clockwise to unscrew it. 3. If you have a tiny flat screw driver that fits, you just need to remove the sleeve, reveal the tuner and tune it, without disassembling further.
You do NOT need to disassemble the pen to access the potentiometer. With a jewelers 1.4mm flathead screwdriver, you can simply pop off the side button and access the pot directly through the opening in the side of the pen. You don't even need to remove the plastic carriage to remove the button, though it might lift out slightly. Just gently pull the rubber back from the side of the button, wiggle the screwdriver in from the side, and lever out the toggle button -- it's only held in by friction. You'll see three holes. The top and bottom are the buttons, the middle is the potentiometer.
Thank you so much for this advice. I really didn't want to disassemble the whole pen to fix it, as i was having just the pressure issue. I grabbed a phone repair kit I had lying around, popped out those buttons and tuned the little dial. Tested it, and the problem was gone. Popped the buttons back in and it was good to go -- maybe 5 minute repair.

@@genesisdos1968 That's great! I'm glad it worked for you. Sometimes if you drop or otherwise bang the pen, it can drift out of calibration. My son has had to tweak his a few times, so keep the screwdriver handy.

@@UltraHeart6560 This little pink thing you see at 1:50 is the tuner. you have to move it like a screw to adjust your pen.
If you accidentally dropped your pen from the table it might have happened that the tuner moved in one direction and now your pen isn't correctly adjusted.
I advise you to try moving it in either direction and then always check on your tablet if your pen now seems to work better or worse until you get a result you can work with.

Reading more online, looks like such issues are common if you ever drop your pen. That tuner inside is a variable resistor or something, and it seems dropping the pen shakes the variable a bit and thus the issues. That also explains why manual tuning could fix it.

I think i mustve dropped my pen too much. Twisting the thingy inside fixes it for about a session then it returns to skipping lines again. Been thinking about asking for a replacement pen. Potentially a software issue too tho.
I didn't even drop it, got it 2 days ago and I have the issue with maximum sense when I don't touch the tablet
You are a lifesaver I cannot stress enough how much trouble I was having over this problem with absolutely no fixes on the internet and this absolutely worked I feel like crying. I used the same method for the pen from the Artist 15.6 Pro and it completely fixed the issues I was having.

I have been looking for this fix for SO long. My pen was leaving weird, full-pressure dots at the beginning and end of strokes and adjusting the tuner seems to have eliminated the issue completely. THANK YOU.

Thank you - I've been avoiding using my pen because it kept switching to the eraser and more recently writing when not touching the screen. I managed to pop the side button off and access the screw without disassembling the pen as mentioned below and it works SO much better :D

Thanks a bunch! thanks to your guidance I've fixed the pen! a little side note: not sure if it is a different version of the pen, but on mine, the first ring of plastic you remove from the tip of the pen was not coming off; instead, I've lifted the rubber cover from the back, unscrewed the little screw, removed the bottom of the pen and from that point I've followed your steps. Thank you and the comments so much for the solution, for a week i thought i was going crazy at first, then i tried to disable some buttons because i thought they were pressing themselves and going to max pressure, but after watching this video and like an hour of tinkering with the pen the problem was fixed! I'm so happy i didn't have to end up buying a new replacement, bought this tablet just a few months ago and i was worried I had bought a defective product...
Had to use a small kitchen knife to open the insanely small screw and turn the meter very carefully

Had the pressure problem, once I disassembled the pen and took off the small parts it magically fixed without me having to tune it, this video was super helpful
This thing works!
Attention is not necessary to unscrew everything. By removing the buttons, we get access to the rheostat. You can turn it with a flat screwdriver (size s1).
Thank you! Tweaking that little trimpot did the trick. My pen's working better than it has since I got it. No more mysterious full pressure ghost hits or registering a mark before I've touched my pen to the screen. = )

Thank you for this, I actually had the opposite problem, it needed a lot of pressure for the tablet to detect the stroke, and I was beginning to think it was a screen/tablet problem, thankfully it was just the pen and also really simple to solve.

THANK YOU! i had an issue with my pen where it would constantly report 700 of pressure, and turning the thing did actually help a lot, even if it still sometimes does a press on its own!

I thought my tablet was junk, it would constantly stop working on hovering. Turning the screw clockwise made it work as it is intended and my tablet is useful again!! Thank you!

this tutorial worked for me, disassembling and re-adjusting the PA1 stylus is done the same as PA2, also for callibration

Holy shit, I was waiting for so long for my tablet to come and when I was having this problem I thought I was going to have to wait another week until I got a replacement pen. I managed to adjust the screw with a teeny tiny flathead screwdriver and just kept nudging it until I got it to move. Then I moved it more and more until my problem disappeared! Thanks!

OMG it actually works! They say this problem occur when you dropped your pen and last month I dropped my pen. There is no issue until today my pen is drawing itself when hovering through the screen. Yo this is amazing I was having pressure spikes like everyone else when I moved my pen up. And EVEN XP PEN DOESNT RESPOND WHEN PEOPLE ASK THEM ABOUT IT 😭 I've found this video refrenced on reddit and some other forums having issues with the pen with the 13-16 pro models. Long story short thank you so much I was on the verge of just buying a new pen! 🙏🏿😭

Great video, thanks for sharing! Small hope restored to XP-PEN. Now if the screen worked longer than 1 year. After warranty expired my screen developed a defect straight down the center. Pen jumps around. But I was having pressure issues, and the very annoying auto eraser select.
I got my XP-PEN 22R as a bday gift not even a week ago and I dropped my pen ONCE and my pen started drawing while hovering over the screen 😭 I removed the buttons with a hair clip and used a bobby pin to screw it back in and it fit perfectly!! The bobby pin works perfectly after you cut off the little round nibs at the end :^) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AND FOR SAVING ME TEARS AND MONEY 😭😭😭

TYSM! TYTYTY! This works! I also had an issue with windows ink workspace at the same time as this where it wouldn't stop right clicking as soon as I attempted to use my tablet. I even disabled workspace and all of windows pen functions! I had to go into reg edit and manually disable it! Pasted from the comment I found that fixed this issue:
For those also having the issue, I found the solution for me in a conceptart forum.
Going trough the registry was the right approach.
How to open the Registry-Editor:
Press Winkey + R
In the command line type regedit and press enter.
Navigate to:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch
There, change the following parameter from 1 to 3 by double clicking on it and entering the new value.
TouchMode_hold = 3
You may have to restart any running applications like Photoshop for them to apply the change.

Thank you so much, i opened it up like you said and tried the same fix as you but it didnt have any effect.
I did notice however that the black part including the coils would rotate slightly, with a definite click. In one position it wouldnt work to the edge of the screen, in the other it would.

You can also try chucking it across the room. I heard this helped some people fix it so when I couldn't find anything small enough to turn the thingy I threw it and voila it's fixed!
Hello. I recently got an xp-pen star 03 and having a weird problem. When I switched it to Relative Mode, it stops working on photoshop or sketchbook canvas. It still works on desktop or other parts of the ps/sketcnbook, just stops drawing on cavas. Also, absoloute mode works perfectly fine. Do you know anything about this problem?
the pen worked as it should, but there is one more nuance, it is necessary that the inductor coil does not wobble and is secured tightly, then in general everything will be perfect!
Thank you VERY much! I could fix my pen! I noticed that it is not necessary desensamble it completely. Just removing the buttons and its socket, it is possible to access to the turner.

I have received the g960 yesterday and found that line has been drawn without touching on the tablet surface, menu were clicked automatically whenever pen move to the corner. The pen looks different than shown in this video. Could you please help me how to dessamble the pen comes with xp-pen g960.
OMG, yes it worked for me (13/08/2020). I was scared to do it. I'll tell you about my experience: Yes, I did everything that is in the video. The screw that you must turn is actually very small. At first It didn't want to turn. But I did it with a flashlight and looking through the zoom of the phone, then a little pink part (paste) came off and I was scared, but after it came off I was able to turn the screw slowly. The screw line was pointing like one o'clock, I was just turning slowly and testing on the screen until I left the line pointing at 3 o'clock clockwise and it worked great. I realized that this screw is the reason for the problem, so I tried to write at the same time I was touching that screw with my finger and the problem appeared. What I learned? Be very careful with the pencil.
You should consider making a throne for it.
hello, i have a little issue regarding calibration, the suppot haven't found a solution. 1) the calibration is often not precise and the nib is not on the sign (the nib works fine with pressure). 2) the software doesn't recognize the edge of the screen and the Mac dock doesn't appear when the nib goes close to the edge, seems it stop before. i use the beta version of pen tablet settings because the official release haven't any possibility to adjust the seasures of the screen. do you have experienced siliar issues? can i fix this problem with your method? thank you

my deco 01v2 Xp pen is doing this thing where it redos the things i draw??? for example if i draw a circle it will circle aroudn twixe which is annoying because sometimes it causes it to have lines
i am having the opposite issue where when i put a normal amount of pressure it sometimes just won't draw? adjusting the pressure sensitivity didn't help. it doesn't seem to be a pressure issue, because i could put a very light pressure and it could still draw, it just sometimes won't draw regardless of the pressure i put. like it may start drawing a second or so after i start drawing the line? also happens in all my painting software so it's not a software issue. i also changed the nib and the problem persisted. this never happened when i first got the pen display. can't find anything about this anywhere, any help would be appreciated! :(

I dont know if your video was the ideal for my problem, but im really glad i found it! my stylus wasnt working at all, and i just thinked it was broken and i tryed everything on my software, reinstaling the drivers, making sure there are no wacom in my pc, restarting, even reinstaling my OS :c None of that worked . And , i find your video showing how to disasembly the pen. THE STUPID METAL RING IT HAS NEED TO BE AT THE BOTTOM, i had it on the top of the pencil and that made all my problems x.x So.. thanks a lot, even if the tutorial didn't meant for my stupidity hahaha

Soo my pen has this problem that when I put it on the screen and instead of clicking where I placed it, it always clicks the right corner. I tried what you did by turning the little circle and nothing. A little help?

I bought a brand new pen but its not working, im not sure if i was supposed to connect it to my tablet first? I haven't used my art tablet in about a year because my other pen broke. I don't recall much about it.

Even though I wasn't able to turn the dang thing inside, this taught me that I don't have to cut through my pen with a knife, so thank you! My issue was that my pen nib just wasn't staying put. For some reason it actually stuck properly when I put it in through that main frame and not through the pen tip so there's that?? So far it's working.
