Yeah, when you're in one everyone looks at you, the thing I hate the most is the suspension when you have aftermarket wheels on it specially if they're bigger than 22".
Eh, there's not much of a point to that. A stock M113 V8 makes about 300hp, whereas a stock LS makes anywhere from 350-400hp. You can easily get the M113 to 500hp or higher by slapping on a supercharger from an M113K (aka the Kompressor). Or just straight up throw an M113K in from an E55 to make your own homemade G55.
Let your great-grandchildren inherit it one day. A G Klasse is a lasting legacy, and the G500 was the pick of the bunch among petrol engined models. The OM617 and current OM656 are the best Diesel ones. Best means longevity, dependability, endurance, reliability.
Have a 2002 for five years now. Finest vehicle I've ever owned and longest I've ever kept a car. These are the closest thing to old school benz quality. It has two cup holders in the front, yours is missing one. The glitches are generally minor and service is pretty straight forward.
My 2006 E350 has had the following electrical issues: Tele-aid malfunction, traction control malfunction, cruise control malfunction, and turn signal malfunction. I didn’t take it in for any of these issues, they all resolved themselves...
My 01 C320 had similar issues. I swapped the battery and all the issues except the tele aid malfunction when away lol and haven’t came back (knock on wood). Old Mercedes can be quite weird.

Went to my parents recently to find my moms 05 G sitting in the garage collecting dust. Roof liner sagging, interior elements broken, window regulators inoperable. The door gaps are not bad build quality, but an example of its purpose built design. Put a front wheel up on a big rock, and without the door gap your drivers door would be stuck closed. Over time you would find the paint worn due to contact, door lock damage, etc. The gaps are by design for this purpose built off road vehicle.

@@kbcarroll You should definitely have your wife drive one a bit before buying one for her. My wife is not at all a wimpy barbie girl type - but she does not like driving the Geländewagen (even though she is German!). She thinks its steering is too heavy and the gas pedal too hard to push (they are both noticeably heavier than the steering and gas pedal in her Mazda CX-5). I think most Mercedes have a fairly firm gas pedal feel, so if your wife doesn't have issues with the gas pedal in her GLK she probably won't with a G Wagon either. But these are TRUCKS. The steering ratio is a lot wider than typical cars or SUVs. One has to crank the wheel when pulling into a parking spot or making a tight right turn on smaller streets. Personally I LOVE driving the G Wagon. If you snap the steering wheel quickly you will get a lot of instant body roll but when taking curves on the road or going around a cloverleaf it corners nearly flat (due to heavy duty springs). It is a very solid vehicle to drive. I just recently took it on a nearly 1,400 mile round trip to visit family just before Christmas and it proved to be a superb long distance vehicle. I chose it over my BMW 535i XDrive due to the more upright seating position (I recently had surgery and sitting upright is more comfortable for me).
@John Mohan Music thanks for the advice! When we first married 15 years ago I bought her a 1994 E320 that she absolutely loved, but eventually grew tired of the lack of amenities. I want an older G because it has the m113 and the 722.6 which are very reliable and cheap to work on.
micro christ I swear his car was owned by the Russian mob? You have confused me or are you saying what's good for the Italian mafia is good enough for us all? And that the Russian mob are cheapskates. 😂
Well the G class is monumental. It ugly, rough , boxy but all these are the reasons why people fall in love with it. While all other auto manufacturers are going for curvy body works, the G wagon will preserve its unique appearance which only gets better and stronger with time
Whats even more funnier is that the G wagen is built by Steyr Puch and Peugeot has a version of it called the Peugeot P4, so you know these are nothing but profit for Mercedes parent company Daimler Benz.
The P4 is built on the military W461 chasis that several conuntries still have contracts with Steyr to produce. It's a platform based on the 80's gwagen. The W463 chasis has been in production since the 90's and is what all the current ones being sold under mercedes to consumers are based on. The drivetrains and interior components are completlety different. Either way the commerical gwagens are still hand built in Austria.

Well.. I can arrange a "good" G500 for around 25k usd. I live in the Netherlands. And these cars don't really sell over here. Maybe some shipping costs. But still under 27k for sure. Same silver model. Also a Brabus G400 version for around 33k usd. in White exterior and black rims. Sorry i don't want to be a seller, but i saw an opportunity. Forgive me if i do something wrong, i will remove my message, when asked.
you can only import cars that are over 25 years old to the US if that exact model was not sold there, i.e. no G400. ;) Too bad, because a diesel G is where it's at!
Ouch. For real? But how is it possible, so many people, import cars from a Japanese auction? or sometimes import from European ground from a German or a Scandinavian country? Even younger cars then this model. Also i'm talking about second hand models. And indeed diesel G is amazing.. but.. we have a system to pay tax per month for owning a vehicle and using the roads.. And this category is extremely expensive. Like.. almost 250 USD per month.. To just own this vehicle not even to insure and drive yet. So that's why here in the Netherlands everyone that bought one, is very rich. But to sell it again.. Sucks. But i thought well maybe there is a market in the US for it ;)
Many people who import newer cars from a Japanese auction are using them for parts, especially engine swaps. These cars are not street legal in the US if they were not also sold in the US. However, once a car is over 25 years old, you can import pretty much whatever you want. But you can't go to Germany and buy an S350d and export it to the US market, because even though the S-class is sold in the US, the 350d is not. It is all about emissions, safety standards and a car having all of the certification in the US market. Cars over 25 years old are exempt from these requirements.
Ah i see. I just read the rules. Thank you for sharing this to me! And indeed it's (almost) impossible to import a car in to the usa. Unless the car specs are up to the FMVSS regulations. But if i'm not mistaken this car is actually already FMVSS worthy. Because the safety and emission regulations in the EU (Netherlands for example) is even more strict then in the usa. Maybe not a diesel car though. No idea. But i could off course be mistaken. But i see there is a big chance this could not work. :( To bad.
hey good luck finding an insurer in the USA if you want to buy one of these EU spec or JDM spec cars on the road after you've gotten it on US soil. Not impossible, but no DD .
May be outrageous but I'd love one, at least as a second car for snow days. May have to settle for Isuzu Trooper or Toyota Land Cruiser. My '84 Audi 4000 CS (5 speed quattro) had button in center console for locking diff - great in Minnesota winters. Quirks 5 cyl 2.2L longitudinal (front to back) engine. Think drive train was 70% front 30% rear until slippage.
When I had my 97 Suburban my uncle had a G, so we compared the cars. The G was uncomfortable to drive (live axle in the front, like an old coach). And the doors of the G where a thin piece of metal. Besides this the G was small inside. My uncle was a little bit jealous, also since I had a V8 turbo diesel and he had just a small 6 cylinder turbo diesel, so he had no power at all ... This comparison took place in Germany, by the way. I don't know why the G is such a status symbol (even here in Germany). Maybe since Mercedes kept the price so extremely high all the time?
My friend and i took his mom's G Wagon to a McDonald's drive thru and halfway through it decided it was taking too long so we just jumped the curb, past a gravel ground that was being built, over another curb and into a parking lot. I'm sure people were staring but it was just pretty awesome to do that. Also you're right next to Beaver Creek 😍😍
5:00 The good old ; Make your head a signal range extender by placing the key fab right next to it... Always been intrigued by how it actually works...
I never understood the G hype. Even in the 80s i found it ugly as shit. The defender or the wrangler are really cool... but this has always been uncool according to my tastes.
1:15 i didn't know you could rent a car as old as that in the US, here in the UK you'd be lucky to see something over 2 years old and am thinking that they either get rid of them and rotate them due to high mileage or that it's illegal in the UK for a hire car to be more than 2 or 3 years old, am thinking possibly it's to do with the annual inspection that happens from year 3 and a whole bunch of insurance and wear and tear issues..
People love them cause they are Rude (Square), Tough (handle everything), History (it is the Jeep of the cold era even in some east Euro countries) simple, beautiful, AND! Their regular models were (or are) true 4x4 or off-roaders. I wonder when automakers will realize that a good, tough, go everywhere, true truck is needed. One of the reasons why the Mitsubishi Montero (Pajero) is making a comeback where I live.
my father was tied between a g wagon and a range rover autobiography... he ended up going with the rr and i was slightly bummed because their is just something mean, yet alluring about how the g wagon looks.

micro christ I swear his car was owned by the Russian mob?
I am hoping to purchase this vehicle (2003) soon. Thanks for the review.
Me too! 💪🏽🤞🏻
Good info yet a lot of the video is dark. I think you also need some sound deadening materials in whatever room you're adding voice recording.
He was shooting into the bright background to capture the view, so the foreground image that he wanted to capture was dark because the camera's iris was smaller, to compensate. He needed a fill light if he wanted to capture the truck and the background scenery. He's on a budget man, plus, he's not a videographer. Do you want your money back?
Welcome to Colorado 🎉 that’s one of the only cars to never seem to age! It’s that reason I would love one. I would only change one thing, the old radio with a new 2017 In-dash double din and be “ballin” on a budget😌👍
The old key against your head trick
I swear it gives you more range
Apparently it is because the head has big amounts of water, which multiplies the waves' effectiveness.
That's what they said on Top Gear. lol
Beaver Creek! Too bad there isn't much snow there yet.
How about improving video quality? It looks so washed out Hooves.
KIYOOU because that's not the hoodies garage way.
KIYOOU He could buy a good camcorder for like $400
I makes it look like the video was made in 2005 as well.
so
NO!
Hoovies is the best auto channel on the net.
Hey! Beaver Liquors! I've been there too. Alright bye.
I bet you have! :P
MY best mate owns a 2012 g55. Can tell you right now its the best car to own. They also daily the thing.
Think drive train was 70% front 30% rear until slippage.
what a nice location!!! And a nice car
I knew the background scenery was familiar! The Avon/Vail valley is a really cool place, and that car certainly belongs there...
Its funny that u uploaded this because I just saw a newer g wagon parked at my local elementary school parking lot
The 80's music Hoovie uses in the beginning of the video always cracks me up. :-P
So a Hoovie's guide to the Mercedes G500 then?
Sorry, we all know that it's all just pretend.
AutoAgitator what’s pretend?
Your final thoughts are the best reminders to press like of any you tube channel.
Hoovie: The every-man's Doug DeMuro
My friend and i took his mom's G Wagon to a McDonald's drive thru and halfway through it decided it was taking too long so we just jumped the curb, past a gravel ground that was being built, over another curb and into a parking lot. I'm sure people were staring but it was just pretty awesome to do that. Also you're right next to Beaver Creek 😍😍
*O G*
Liberator530 thanks
LMAOOOO, "Made a decade before David Hasselhoff single handedly tore down the Berlin Wall" Had me laughin!!!
Probably the most beautiful Mercedes ever.
Felix O. It is for sure
W150 was the most beautiful Mercedes ever, if you disagree I will arrange a train ride for you.
+Felix O. - I bet you think wooden shoes are a styling tour de force too.

Congratulations on 1 million subscribers 🎊 🎉🎊🍾🎈
wow it almost looks the same as the one he bought
5:00 The good old ; Make your head a signal range extender by placing the key fab right next to it... Always been intrigued by how it actually works...
Where is the Bentley 😢
I'm so happy that you made another video on a Mercedes SUV. I'll take it even though you should really look into the gl450
I never understood the G hype. Even in the 80s i found it ugly as shit. The defender or the wrangler are really cool... but this has always been uncool according to my tastes.
The cup holder is actually pretty smart, it absorbs the vibration of the road so your drink won’t spill
3:40 *cries in french*
1:15 i didn't know you could rent a car as old as that in the US, here in the UK you'd be lucky to see something over 2 years old and am thinking that they either get rid of them and rotate them due to high mileage or that it's illegal in the UK for a hire car to be more than 2 or 3 years old, am thinking possibly it's to do with the annual inspection that happens from year 3 and a whole bunch of insurance and wear and tear issues..
"Don't be an idiot. Don't buy one".
Now you destroyed any last doubt in him...
Beaver Liquors...
Lickers....
😀😁
my father was tied between a g wagon and a range rover autobiography... he ended up going with the rr and i was slightly bummed because their is just something mean, yet alluring about how the g wagon looks.
What is it with Americans with cup holders 😂
How much is annual maintenance on this?
YOUR WHEELS CHANGE COLOUR WORTH ITS OG AT 2:55 to 2:59
When I was in LA last year, I was in shock to see so many G wagons--crazy

Hey @Hoovies Garage, who writes your video scripts ?? They're really good and the humor is well timed.
If you write them yourself, then bro, you're a damn good pro. thumbs up!!!
g class suv for real men..
G-Class. The SUV for posers. There, fixed it for you.
OMGWTFLOL yup. Poser off-roader
You forgot to say the G-class is hand made in Austria. And it's body on frame design. And the panels are from galvanised steel.
Not first
Norwegian Vlogs An I ain't second.
You need to buy a Honda S2000. What motors did they come with and other options. They seem about the some as a MX-5. I really enjoy your videos and the car wizard help.
A cool car ruined by Persian/Armenian people in Los Angeles
Bogmire777 lmfao so true
Never though you'd be one of the people riding around in a G-Wagon in the Beaver Creek area hills haha! Enjoy your stay in this awesome area!
Been here since 23,000 subscribers
keyfob pointing into your open mouth extends range much better than just holding it against your temple. try it
I couldn't help but to get up and dance during the intro! Great tune
Can you do a video on the 80s and 90s grey market g wagon?
Had one with 150000 miles had zero problems owned it for 3 years
Why did u sell it
Lol just got the 2005 g500 and here i am searching for parts to fix it 😅
