Just a side note ~ I think it is extremely gracious of you to acknowledge comments made by your viewers. I realize it does take time to do so, and I feel sure others just like me certainly are appreciative. It speaks to who you are. I don’t really have an affiliation with The Villages, but you both make your show so interesting and uplifting that I enjoy watching. I as a retired person, like many others, I feel sure find a social aspect in viewing, because you both are so personable. Just know you do make a difference in a very positive way through your show.
“When we choose positive, negative has no space to reside.” In saying that, you both brighten the space wherever you are. What a great way to spend your time. Shadow

Hi, J & L, I’m a New Jersey transplant and that the weather and outdoor lifestyle is a major part of coming to Florida. That said, property tax is second in reasons to come down. My property tax went to 30% of what NJ was charging. Checking specifics I use Zillow as a guide. Tax policies are a major factor for many that make the move. California, New Jersey, and New York are all similar. I only hope new transplants don’t bring the tax and spend policies with them for the long term outlook.

Taxes are low in Florida because the public schools stink, but retired folks couldn't care less.NY,NJ and CA have much better public schools and taxes are high to pay for them.As you know, you get what you pay for in this world.

@@westhoboken8167 Retired folks don't care about schools? You should try looking up schools in The Villages. Schools have been built for the children of Villages employees. These compare well with any K-12 schools anywhere. NY has better schools? Sure...

I moved to Spanish Springs and I was welcomed by everyone. So many people and things to do. I actually think it is friendlier up North then in the Southern areas. Since Orange Blossom is a small community it’s easy to get to know people.

From all of the different descriptions of the Villages; It seems to be a consensus that the northern part of the Villages is a more mature group of people than the more younger ; partygoers that have been moving into the lower newer sections. The northern area seems to have a more natural native Florida feel to it. I personally prefer that type of atmosphere; my party days are behind me more so; the natural scenery looks great up north. To each their own; is the best response.

Jury duty. Understand this before you move! We are here just south of Lexington, KY. My husband got a “circuit court” notice our first year in 2017. It said he was “on-call” for service for 4 (four) months! What? He did get chosen and had to serve 2 days in our small town, Lancaster, 9 miles away. That was it. Then late November 2021 I got a summons for District Court in Lexington, 27 miles from our home. Only 5 business days notice! And mine is a 6 (six) month on-call! OMG! Now they said, if you have a reservation for a trip, send it to the jury administrator to be excused. It is now early March and I’ve had 3 summons. The first, we had a reservation in Siesta Key, FL, so I was excused. The second summons cam early January. I drove up and was not picked. The 3rd came in February. Three days before I was to report they canceled (defendant must have made a plea deal). So here I am waiting for the next summons. It sucks! I retired from an I.T. career where being on-call was part of the job. But dang, Kentucky, you’ve pulled me back into that. So I am on the hook until June, I guess. I want it over with as this is disturbing.😖

We were so excited to meet everyone...and we went to our neighborhood swimming pool...We learned a lot about what's going on..They had monthly social...Went to clubs, squares, and out to dinner..Two years later we bought a house in Summerhill....Because of the people and location..When we make friends we do not care about you age, married, single...We have something in common...Villages is not for everyone..We enjoy playing bunco, cards, and pool...and we are friendly, and talk to everyone..Give it time ..You will make friends..

In regard to housekeeping, I have a housekeeping company that is bonded and insured. They come every other week. The owner plus 2 other girls come and they stay for 2 or 3 hours. My house is one story, 2800 square feet. 2-1/2 bathrooms. 3 bedrooms plus 1 of them has a reading room attached, and I have an office. Large kitchen, dining room and great room. I pay $130 each time they come and it's very worth it!! I'm so happy that I have found these angels! I have physical limitations due to a bad back and knees. I used to clean my own house, now I have to engage a cleaning business. They do a lot of detail work. I have shutters in every room and I have a lot of windows. And I have ceiling fans in every room, too, so there's a lot of extra spots to clean. They do a tremendous job!

I have heard of a number of people who have been disappointed in some of the northern villages not being as friendly. But, I think that possibly the older areas have an older population that perhaps don’t get out as much. I do think it takes an effort to be friendly too. Thanks for another great video! Gizzy…❤️❤️❤️

@@barbaraebner5889 The one thing I would try and do is not get overwhelmed. This place is huge. It takes us almost a half hour by CAR to get from our place near Edna’s on the green to Spanish Springs. We are just taking little bites at a time, making sure we spend time relaxing at the pool, have our morning coffee out in the lanai, etc. Going to a concert here Wednesday nite. We plan little exploring trips also. We are planning on renting for a month next year to see if this is what we want to do. I wouldn’t even think of making any drastic decisions after one week. We are also taking little day trips to Leesburg and that area to check out other 55 and over communities, but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. The Villages is definitely the crème de la crème.

We get a little humidity in the summer and feel we would simply die in Florida in the summer. In addition, my wife is convinced that everything in FL that isn't moving has at least 6 bugs on it. With that said, I am very tired of $350+ per month energy bills. We are at a loss where to go. Best wishes & love to Gizmo from Daisy (mini schnauzer & fellow Germans).

Yes Roger, after a really rough winter, energy bills seem grow astronomically w crazy taxes surcharges(Illinois).
And, on top of that I kept saying “we were lucky it was so much worse to our south, out East, “ as the snowblower pushing me into the garage. I’ve had it when I can’t take even a short walk because winds are hurting my eyes, face.. A big concern of mine is traffic everywhere seems be just Clogged w drivers don’t move light turns green as if they’re going nowhere.icy roads make scary travel to drive even w appropriate tires.I hear northern Georgia is terrible as traffic gets worse as more people move there. Now their resurrecting high speed rail, which one wonders of course great part of the solution, but it can take 3 years to complete just an intersection. Hurricanes an issue even inland for us.

It is impossible to keep a dog on the street to pee while walking as most of them like to walk on the grassy area by the street. The asphalt streets get very hot in the summer! Another great video, the people that are not able to meet people apparently don’t go to any of the clubs or participate in the activities. If they don’t make an effort to introduce themselves to the neighbors, their neighbors could just think they are inverts that don’t want bothered. You get out of life what you put into it.

I had to laugh at your story about Linda cleaning up the house before the house keeper came, years ago when my wife and I both worked we had a bi-weekly house keeper and on those days she was scheduled to come, my wife was madly cleaning the house before her arrival saying she didn't want the house keeper to know how messy we were. It never made sense to me.🤔

Our community requires dog owners to carry a bottle of water with them to pour on the dogs urine to dilute it. It will leave yellow spots in your grass if not attended to. Love your show and I don’t even live in the villages!

Been living in Florida since 1981.. Had several homes built and obviously knew many people.. No builder nor did anyone I ever knew had a lightning rod on their homes.. Nor anyone that had lightning hit their home directly.. Protect your electronics with good surge protectors and also if you have cable TV run it through a surge protector. You have a better chance of hurricane damage then lightning damage from a direct hit on your home.

Hi guys! We recently found your channel- and love you 💜
We bought our home in the Villages already, but are not retiring until 2024 😐.
Watching your videos keeps us dreaming and we learn stuff too. Our question- we watched what we guess was your first video when you were packing to move down. You mentioned you took most of your furniture. Did you end up keeping the furniture you brought? Or did you decide to refurnish? We are having this “debate”. Our furniture is dark and we are thinking it will look out of place in Florida. What are your thoughts?

Great show today as always : ) Jeff is a good sport! Puppers can’t always take care of business right at their home, gotta walk a bit, sniff etc. On the residential streets, it looks like most of them don’t have parking strips with grass..since TV is a dog friendly community, IMO folks moving there should be understanding if a fur baby needs to use the edge of the grass..of course the parent should be responsible with a baggie and could even carry a small bottle of water to splash a little. Pets and treats to sweet Giz 🐶🐾🙂💓

Thanks for the show. Randall here. I really appreciated the last few shows with the Go Karts and Star Gazing, Gizmo's Birthday, and today's show that included tips on RVs in and around the Villages. I'm a serious "gear head". This got me to thinking. Is there a convention center that holds "dealer car shows", "boat shows", "RV shows", and the like near the Villages? I know down in Miami they have an international car and boat show that involve the dealers. I guess the closest activities like these might be held in Orlando? Great content. You really are doing a great job with the coverage and entertainment. Very interesting where the people come from. NJ is the most densely populated state in the USA I believe. So, it kind of makes sense that those people would want the South Florida lifestyle. If you recall, I'm in Maryland, just outside of DC. The forecast is 80 degrees today!!

In St Louis County Minnesota you do not have to appear for jury duty if you are 70 years old or over. Of course, if you do get called you must check in and excuse yourself. I’m guessing you may not even be summoned. I don’t know. It’s been years since I was summoned for jury duty. I’d likely never be picked as I was a claims adjuster and also worked with law enforcement. There’s always a chance, however. Prosecutors and defense attorneys in civil cases would probably love me.

When we first started coming to Florida about 12 years ago , TV was immaculate in all areas. You didn't see as much as a piece of paper anywhere on the grounds. The 🌴 trees were always trimmed, common area hedges trimmed etc Now the dead palm fronds are covering the trees and blowing onto the grounds and are seen often. Especially in the first 3 communities. Landscaping seems to be neglected. Do you know if it's because TV is so big now?

We have a mother-daughter cleaning team. They run their own business and are booked solid. They have cleaned for us for the last few years. We trust them so much we leave the back door open if we aren't home and they come right in. I think they even work on Sunday. They do our house every other Friday and it costs $100 per cleaning. Best investment ever, and yes, I make my son clean his room before they come!
