I lived in Saint Augustine on a little sailboat for five years . When the boat sold I moved back to NY ☹️☹️☹️ and leaving my grands behind in Ocala. I am planning to move back down this year. I love it down there😊
My brother retired to a mobile home neighborhood near Fruitland Park. Not my cup of tea but he was happy and lived there for many years before he passed away in 2018.
I'm a Registered Nurse and I've been concerned about Long Term Care Insurance too. For twenty years I've had the concern that more and more Long Term Care Insurance companies will go out of business then what happens to all those expensive payments you paid for decades? And sure enough, there are way fewer Long Term Care Insurance companies today than ten or twenty years ago. So would your investment be safe? I have major concerns that the investments paid in may not be safe. Everyone do you own research and I mean do your own research and don't depend on what a sales person will tell you. And don't forget to read the fine print or better yet take it to an attorney to read the fine print of all the ways they can get out of paying you benefits. I use to work for a national Assisted Living company and I can tell you each and every month the administrator would have to complete qualification paperwork for all residents where Long Term Care Insurance was paying part of the bill. Every month paperwork had to be sent in showing how the resident continued to quality, which was basically an Activities of Daily Living Assessment - in other words what exactly did the resident need assistance with? Dressing, bathing, walking, etc. In my opinion it's a lot of money to pay and I feel there is risk it may not pay out, which is a significant concerned.

Live in Massachusetts. I lived in Hot climate, Houston, in the 1970's TOO HOT. In Massachusetts we have our hot days, 95 degrees and high humidity, We have tornadoes, we even have earthquakes. But most of all, I like a good old fashioned blizzard. 35 MPH winds, and snow of 12" It's Mother Nature's way of showing you she's the boss. In more rural Massachusetts away from Boston we got land, over an acre. And I'd miss my Boston Red Sox,, and Boston Bruins hockey. You both seem like very nice people whom I'd want as my neighbor
Long term care insurance- I have experience advocating for my mother to collect her LTC insurance. It was VERY difficult to get them to pay (it is a well known company) and not an iffy case at all. My mother was in pretty bad shape, moved to assisted living with many areas of help with daily living. Not until I had my husband help me draft a litigious letter (he's an attorney) did they pay up. When they figured out a lawyer may be involved they paid. I do not recommend long term care insurance!
I agree. I Live next to an abandoned Home & homeowner has been using this home as commercial land fill & dump. Grass is 5 ft tall & city says due to privacy fence they cant make homeowner cut grass or clean up yard. No one wants to live next to a landfill & has decreased my home value. So I would love to live where deed restrictions for home/yard are enforced.

Hello, Having lived in south Florida for 25 years I learned that homeowner’s insurance is one of the biggest scams. You pay premiums for regular homeowners, plus extra for flood wind, hurricane and sink holes insurance. If you put a claim in due to damage to your home, they raise your rates or drop you. If there is a catastrophic hurricane like Andrew, the insurance companies will pull out of the area leaving you without homeowners insurance, forcing you to purchase state homeowners insurance which is extremely expensive. A lot of People were going bankrupt many years ago because the premiums were $50,000 per year. So when you see a commercial for insurance that claims they are there for you. Do not believe them. I'm SO glad I don't have to listen to any of my neighbors' wind chimes. (Many condominiums and apartments all over the US don't allow wind chimes because they annoy people. That's not just at The Villages.) And, I'm glad the lady across the street is moving soon because she doesn't keep her yard neat.
Flood insurance is only through FEMA the federal government. You do have to go through your insurance company but is is actually issue through FEMA, and no need to shop around the price is set depending you home information.

We are snowbirds and have a house in Florida. Our house insurance goes up every year. The cost is astronomical compared to our house in Ohio. We are not happy with our insurance either.

We are new Villagers who like to open our windows and doors to air out the house on really nice winter days, but we can’t usually do that at our new Villages house because our neighbor chain smokes really smelly cigars that make the air very unpleasant. His wife won’t let him smoke inside their house. Houses are too close together in our neighborhood and this is one problem we couldn’t research before we bought our house several months ago. I don’t want to move again but am not sure what to do to solve this problem. Our neighbor simply doesn’t care. 😢
Wow, that is a tough one. In my experience smokers sometimes don't care about others. They feel like it is their right to smoke on their property. I am sure it is disappointing for you to invest all that money in a new home where you cannot be truly happy. Perhaps you could have a heart-to-heart talk with the neighbor. He may not be receptive, but if you do it the right way, he may be. You owe it to your own peace of mind to try.

Love that it was pointed out that Jerry said "my" son and corrected it to "our". My husband also does that when he is talking about " our" kids, or the house or the car etc etc.I correct on occasion but he usually goes back to saying it anyway the next time.
I lived 7 years in the villages !! The happiest days of my life!!! I left because of health reasons !! I just hate we’re I am now!! Not far from the villages !! I live in a Golden cage and hate it🤨. I miss the villages every and my life, friends, activities, my beautiful peaceful organize life, my doctors etc... don’t be surprised if one day I pack and just go back to my “heaven “ 😇😅

Thanks for explaining the situation involving schools and children... I thought the Villages was created for retiree's that wouldn't otherwise have young children living with them. Glad to learn its only for the people that run/own the communities there and not for all other young growing needy families... As I say that would defeat the purpose of moving into a Retirement Community in my opinion.

I watched a real estate video. The bungalow on the villages was 3 Yr old, can't remember the name, started with a D. The property behind was having a swimming pool and a birdcage built! Luckily the linai was blackout but you could see them, seemed really close to the back. So that would put me off buying it. I appreciate the National Health Service in the UK,
Some clubs help villagers connect with others from their original,state , neighborhood or school. I started Clevelanders & burbs club . Several members connected to classmates and old neighbors. Small world

Happy birthday, January 7, Linda. Did you say Villages High School? I’m baffled. I love the sound of trains. Not only can I hear them, but sometimes I can see them from my back bedroom. I can also hear the ships arriving and leaving the port. Love it, love it, love it. If you have a lot of rain regardless if it’s common or a rare occurrence, you can have a sinkhole or ground collapse. We had a flood in 2012 in rocky Duluth and had a lot of ground collapse and sinkhole or two. There are TH-cam videos on sinkholes and info on the insurance costs on TH-cam specifically in The Villages. I like to be informed. I don’t like surprises.
Very interesting to hear your in depth answers to questions. Your doing a great job. The Village's is just not the life style for me but I do understand how the lifestyle would suit many people. I think housing cost everywhere in the USA is just getting too high for middle class folks.

Tom, there is only one type of lifestyle visit… but, you can tailor it to see what you want to see. We found there to be no pressure from the sales office other than to let us do, see, and go, where we wanted.
When took my Lifestyle Preview Visit a few years ago, the visit could be from 4 to 7 nights. The rates vary based on the time of year your visit takes place. I believe thee rates are highest in the Winter months and lowest in the Summer months. The accommodations are top notch. The Villages web site has more information on Lifestyle Preview Visits.
Florida requires home insurance cover catastrophic ground collapse coverage. But this coverage only pays if the house is deemed uninhabitable by government agencies. Sink hole coverage is optional, is not available for purchase in high risk areas, not very expensive but pretty limited in dollar coverage. Might only cover $15K.

Yes, it's a substation for the Wildwood city police. They coordinate police protection throughout TV, from several agencies.

Happy birthday, January 7, Linda. Did you say Villages High School? I’m baffled. I love the sound of trains. Not only can I hear them, but sometimes I can see them from my back bedroom. I can also hear the ships arriving and leaving the port. Love it, love it, love it. If you have a lot of rain regardless if it’s common or a rare occurrence, you can have a sinkhole or ground collapse. We had a flood in 2012 in rocky Duluth and had a lot of ground collapse and sinkhole or two. There are TH-cam videos on sinkholes and info on the insurance costs on TH-cam specifically in The Villages. I like to be informed. I don’t like surprises.
I would move the villages for Pickleball. But I have too many kids and grandkids here in New York that I would miss after two weeks.

Very interesting to hear your in depth answers to questions. Your doing a great job. The Village's is just not the life style for me but I do understand how the lifestyle would suit many people. I think housing cost everywhere in the USA is just getting too high for middle class folks.

Are their different types of visits for the different levels of affordability or are you shown all the lifestyle levels in one visit.? Also how long can the visit be?.

Tom, there is only one type of lifestyle visit… but, you can tailor it to see what you want to see. We found there to be no pressure from the sales office other than to let us do, see, and go, where we wanted.
When took my Lifestyle Preview Visit a few years ago, the visit could be from 4 to 7 nights. The rates vary based on the time of year your visit takes place. I believe thee rates are highest in the Winter months and lowest in the Summer months. The accommodations are top notch. The Villages web site has more information on Lifestyle Preview Visits.

Florida requires home insurance cover catastrophic ground collapse coverage. But this coverage only pays if the house is deemed uninhabitable by government agencies.
Sink hole coverage is optional, is not available for purchase in high risk areas, not very expensive but pretty limited in dollar coverage. Might only cover $15K.
