You may have other engine problems which may have caused the convertor to be damaged in the first place. Check other things like MAF sensor and O2 sensors, there are two. The smell is due to unburned fuel in the exhaust. It may be as simple as a fouled spark plug.
Replaced cat flex pipe all sensors and spark plugs still getting p420 and now p0172 which could be many things brand new starter new alternator new wires and spark plugs drives Amazing lol 😁 but codes keep coming on could it really be my cold air intake that's clogged? Ready to switch back to OEM.@@fflynnful
Cleaning a catalytic converter is generally not recommended or necessary. If your catalytic converter is not functioning properly, it is best to have it replaced rather than attempting to clean it. However, if you still want to try cleaning the catalytic converter, here are a few things you can do: Use a catalytic converter cleaner: There are various cleaners available in the market specifically designed for cleaning the catalytic converter. Follow the instructions on the cleaner carefully and make sure to use a cleaner that is compatible with your car's make and model. Check for any loose debris: Check for any loose debris or buildup in the converter. If you find any debris, you can try removing it carefully using a vacuum cleaner or compressed air. Check the oxygen sensor: The oxygen sensor monitors the exhaust gas and sends signals to the engine control module to adjust the fuel-to-air ratio. If the sensor is faulty, it can cause issues with the catalytic converter. Consider checking and replacing the oxygen sensor if necessary. Note: Cleaning the catalytic converter may not always solve the problem, and attempting to clean it can also cause damage to the converter. It is best to consult a professional mechanic before attempting to clean or replace the catalytic converter.
