I never said he was the best when people would argue who is the best ( Hendrix, Clapton, evh etc) but I always said he was the most appropriate player for the song.
She Came In Through The Bathroom Window is THE song that made me want to play electric guitar. John was awesome with the rhythm and really drove the song. The lead guitar was just magical on this song. George was so perfect with his sense of timing of when to play what. His guitar parts never overshadowed the song, the guitar complemented the songs perfectly.
This sounds amazing Sam! I never realized how much slapback delay there was on George’s parts, and also those fills that he does on SCITTBW actually look a lot trickier then they sound! As always, keep up the great work man!
Maybe the most aggressive Beatles guitar part ever. I think maybe even more so than Helter Skelter! Thank you for sacrificing your arm for this amazing cover!
Thanks Evy haha. Actually the hardest part was George’s hybrid picking during the verses of Bathroom Window. Gave me a big blister on my right ring finger
Brilliant songs and all that, but one of my favourite aspects of The Beatles, and Abbey Road is one of the best examples, is how they always got a great guitar tone and sound, it always seemed to be just right, tone, distortion, echo. Paperback Writer is a fabulous example, absolutely brilliant video by the way.
It's stuff like this that helped me to record. Seeing how they would leave mistakes in the final takes allowed me to let go of "the perfect take" syndrome. Thank you Sam!
Excellent job! Listening to the song like this for the first time, I am struck by the fact that with a bit less lead guitar this could have fit nicely on the American version of "Rubber Soul". The 12-string almost gives it a folk rock sound. Not as recorded, of course, but i now see that it could have been. Thanks for showing this.
Awesome cover as usual Sam! I believe that there are photos of George on his Les Paul Lucy for this song on Beatlesebooks, if I am not mistaken. I can't wait for Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/(and especially) The End!
Love this - and nailed all the details, as always. The 12-string is bang-on. One Beatles writer (MacDonald?) guessed the big D-A-E strums by John were influenced by The Who's then-current hit Pinball Wizard, which is another song it'd be awesome to see Sam do perfectly!
That’s interesting, because John references Tommy by the Who in the outtake of Polythene Pam. He was saying Ringo’s Tom Tom drums were like Dave Clark or Keith Moon
You can hear on the Escher demos, recorded in about May 1968 before the White Album that John was already doing D-A-E with big emphasis on the E as a turnaround. It seems like it was already there from the beginning.
@@reginaldperiwinkle True, though I think the reference is to the single strums like those that open the song, which aren’t on the Esher version. The quote also suggests MacDonald thought Pinball Wizard was played on a 12-string (it sounds like at least two tracks of Pete’s J-200 instead).
Thanks for all the nice touches on this. I wonder if John really played the Bb note in the Dm by mistake, or whether it is just a nice touch. The Bb seems in key to me and it is actually consistent with the vocal harmony, which goes from a G note to an F note, so John is implying some harmonies with intervals of sixths. It's actually clever.
I was always tempted to think it was the Tele as well. But it 100% sounds like humbuckers with that extra treble. You dont get that crunch with P90s. And you can definitely hear that '50s influence coming through. Chet Atkins, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and the like. Their likeness really shines through in George's little solos.
@@sampopkin are you sure George switched to the middle position on "but now she sucks her thumb and wonders"? It sounds like he has the bridge pickup on the whole time.
Nicely done w/quick trigger fingers to change pickup selection on the LP Std. I always thought this had really nice guitar flourishes and very Macca like lead parts.
I've always thought the delay on the guitar here was really unique in The Beatles' catalogue. Even songs like Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby with vocals full of slap didn't apply it to the guitar. I'm sure there's another song or two where they used it, but I can't think of any right now.
YES!!! I have been waiting so much for this and it makes me so happy to see you back on it! I assume we can expect a full version of the medley uploaded when we get the last part right? ;>
Great job, but one thing I never understood about guitar players (I play bass) is the movement of the left hand to the end of neck between phrases. When their part is at rest, they invariably move that hand around when nothing i being played. I suppose with my instrument there's generally continual motion in the middle of songs so this habit is not something we tend to develop
That’s interesting, I play bass too but am mainly a guitarist. I’m not sure why that is the case. Clapton is a good example of someone who moved up and down the neck quickly all the time. He even would slide up to a note at the 14th (ish) fret after finishing a lower note, just to spice things up
Hey bro great cover as always, i was wondering if you can do a revolution cover to see how accurate you get it, does not have to be next video but when ever you have time
the parts where the Les Paul is in the middle position George Harrison overdubbed after recording the basic track. I know this because i listened to the isolated guitar track and the drum bleed from the recording of the basic track completely cuts out every time that there is a an electric guitar in the middle position. not a hate comment just a fun fact :)
I've been eagerly awaiting this one! Almost no one does all of it on TH-cam (though I haven't checked lately). I've been playing this for almost 50 years, but I've never gotten George's part exactly right. And I've had a lifelong obsession about getting Beatles guitar parts EXACTLY right. Thank you! Ordering my 2nd Analogman pedal now, thanks to you! Do you make tabs?
Thanks so much! You’re ordering a King of Tone? There is a 5 year waitlist for it currently but I waited 2.5 years back in 2019. Appreciate your kind words I offer paid zoom lessons if you want to message me on FB or insta. Tabs can be a part of that

Hearing side 2 of Abbey Road changed my life. Awesome covers lately
Side 2 of Abbey Road, to my ears, is the greatest music ever produced by mankind.
I've always loved that electric guitar lick 01:23
funny enough it the same bit from I’ve got a feeling just moved up the fretboard!
George’s lead work on She Came In Through The Bathroom is amazing, some of his best. Great cover as usual.
Simple elegance.. George never practiced.. just showed up and did THIS.. and you presented it perfectly.. thank you
I always appreciated George’s contribution to the songs, but your videos really highlight how creative he was. Super job!!!
Fantastic job, well done as always. I continue to be fascinated by George's guitar parts. He seems to find a completely unique style for every song.
Isn't that the truth? George is an amazing guitarist!
Awesome work. Polythene Pam probably one of the best Beatles rock songs, very short but very underrated. And you mastered it
One can easily suspend disbelief and imagine they're watching actual Beatles operate these guitars....because its so spot on. amazing detail
This little delay, this tone. Man, everything is perfect. Cheers from a brazilian beatles fan 🇧🇷🤘🏻

The Beatles are beautiful, touching and "simple" at the same time ❤
Just beautiful work, as always! Love the way you nailed the 12-string sound.
