    Try IKEA roller black out blinds - white/grey/black 8 foot wide and long - great vinyl on an aluminium roll, no crease with mounting brackets and really cheap

    A tip I often share on backdrops and cycs is; get some sheet vinyl kitchen or bathroom flooring at a blow-out sale price, off the end of a used roll, or a roll that's not selling well because it's ugly or an unpopular color. What's on the top doesn't matter, since we're using the flat "felt" bottom. I prime this with water-based latex KILZ primer and hang it by thru-bolting it between two 2x4's at one end. I let it hang free to form a natural curve at the floor and, boom; white cyc. It's heavy, not very portable, but durable as heck, washable, you can roll it up somewhat for storage, and, once primed, you can make it chroma green or gray and light it as Caleb does his papers and vinyls. The cost is very reasonable.

    Side note, not something I usually complain about, but I find this specific music track distracting. You've used it in a few videos now and it always bugs me. A low-fi filter or something might help.

    Awesome video! I've actually just switched to a gray muslin backdrop. I'm hitting the muslin with a Pergear 960 panel with a half blue CTB and setting my camera at 3200K. This is creating a really nice pop of deep blue. The only set back is that the cloth has to be steamed once in a while, so I may try a vinyl drop next. Also, I noticed that the RGB light you use is no longer being made. Are there and alternatives besides the Youngneo light wand or is that my best bet for popping color into my backgrounds?

    I bought a white vinyl window shade at a home store on a whim around 4 months ago for video (won't talk about what I was using in my old videos... haha). Turned out it was good enough and lights similar to how you were describing in the beginning of the video. It has some markings/patterning from being thin/rolled up, but if enough light hits it I don't notice texture in the resulting video. Recently I was able to get more filming space and upgraded my window shade for $15 to get a wider one (now 55" w by 75" h). Though, larger ones than what I use jump up in price a lot. (Edit, I see your vinyl have the same wavy issue when not lit)

  • @DaveThompsonfairlife4all

    Very professional video and great presentation. I know next to nothing about this, and am quite disappointed with the "cotton muslin" backdrop in blue from ebay, as even with a fabric steamer, the creases just remain. No idea if they will ever go completely, so I will need to edit them out somehow.

  • @PaulAmyes
    @PaulAmyes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You can increase the colour saturation on the white background by turning down the light. Obviously it won’t give the same saturated look as the gray background, but you do get some control.

    Always store vinyl back drops vertically. This is key to avoiding flat spots that are caused by the weight of the roll upon its self. If you store them on horizontally (as Caleb is doing in this video), you will get waves in the roll that are impossible to remove.

      I just purchased a metal hook that you use for drapes at my hardware store... but, my BG is the Savage 5x7' vinyl. His is a lot wider. Mine is a lot smaller and it is fairly heavy. The inner tube is aluminum and not cardboard so it gives it some weight. So if you want to use hooks, it may not hold as well if you use anything larger as itll be way too heavy.

    So weird I was looking for vinyl backdrops and here you go making a video about it. Good news is google liked your video and presented it to me on my searches. Thank you again for reading my mind and making me spend more money. LOL

    Thank you so much! I'm trying to start my TH-cam journey and my home and rooms feel too small to use my lighting equipment in. The will work great as a starting point in my garage. Thank youuuuu!

    The background noise sounds like machines are working, it really is distracting. I can’t handle this while trying to listen to you speak.
