    [INNER BEZEL WILL BE FIXED] Thank you Jody for the honest review. We cherish every feedback (both good & bad), and the inner bezel issue IS certainly regrettable. But! We've contacted our factory and have already begun investigating this issue extensively. Rest assured that all of our watches with inner bezels defects WILL BE FIXED, and we would like to extend a free exchange for existing customers who are already experiencing this defect.
    I'd like to personally apologise for this lapse, and I do hope that you'll look forward to our improvements.
    Best regards,
    Alson

    I think it's worth the price. Gorgeous timepiece, solid movement. I'm not a diver, so the bezel issue isn't much of an issue for me, as the most it would be used for is tracking my lunch hour. I would, however, totally pony up the extra $50-80 to have a nice slice of sapphire versus mineral.

  • @darkoffroader
    @darkoffroader 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @ 2:01 I immediately stopped the video to go get my 'never worn/stickers still on' orange dial, 44 mm Dan Henry 1970. The brushing between the lugs on my 70 is identical to the Atlanticus, the strap is rubber and the inter-rotating bezel doesn't 'hiccup' like the Atlanticus. Even with so few differences, I'd still pay the extra for the DH (even if it's only mineral). Just my 2 cents.

  • @JusttheWatch
    @JusttheWatch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I really like the design, I think they did a good job of retaining some of the vintage charm of the compressor divers that inspired it while also updating it with a modern minimalist look. The strap is mildly annoying, but not a deal breaker for me. The sloppy bezel and the mineral crystal are probably the biggest turn offs for me.

    Great looking watch. Inconsistent finish behind the lugs, I'm ok with that.. Stock straps rarely make it past the front door for too long, another no problem here... I'd be a little annoyed with a new purchase requiring a crack the case to blow the dial.... but that bezel wobble is just no, no and no. On another note, I much prefer the change of branding on the dial to RLG, a good move for my preference.

    Loved the look of this watch from day 1 but the bezel issue has thus far put me off a purchase. However I couldn’t resist their end of year sale and picked up the orange/black version for 110 usd plus the shipping (and import fees in the good old UK!) and at that price this watch is a bit of a bargain - despite the inner rotating bezel “fix” which is certainly much improved over that shown in this video (not perfect by any means but literally only a slight wobble when changing direction) - I’d thoroughly recommend if you can pick one up at that price before they sell out! Thanks to Jody for a very honest appraisal regarding this watch!!👍

    I have the dan Henry and love it. No play on the inner bezel however it's a little stiff to rotate. The lume is not the best, I think maybe they were going for a vintage effect. It comes on a rubber strap and with a nice watch roll.

  • @DanOehlsen

    I snagged the Ocean Blue version the first day it was available and have been wearing it for a couple weeks now. First, mine does not have the bezel wobble you experienced on your samples. The mechanism is quite solid and smooth. I agree that the strap should be waterproof on a 200m diver. That said, I swapped it for a blue and gray nylon band that looks very sharp. And, the black RLG strap looks fantastic on my Hamilton Field Auto and fits the field aesthetic and function of that watch much better than the original brown leather Hamilton. You didn't mention that the RLG strap is a quick-release -- always a nice bonus. I've learned not to expect too much from straps on sub-$500 watches. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the watch and at $250US with shipping, I think it's a bargain.

    I bought one based on the Odessey I have , I've also owned the Dan Henry in 44mm (most of which have sold out now) . The dial on the RLG is nicer than the DH as is the strap which once broken in is super comfy. The RLG is better size for me also . Yes the bezel is a little wonky but I'm not a diver and more important for me is that the bezel stays set on the 12 , I hate a wandering bezel! . My RLG does rattle though which is unusual for a NH35. All in all very happy with mine

    I wouldn't let the comments on the inner bezel put you off this one. I have taken delivery of the pastel blue and it is definitely not behaving like the ones in the review. This is a very good looking watch with fine finishing, and if you don't like the strap being leather, pop on a sailcloth from Watchgecko when the leather wears out - there are plenty on offer and won't break the bank. This is my second watch from Richard LeGrand having previously purchased the Odyssea in blue and I am every bit the satisfied customer. While I see the value in you tube reviewers as a general guide I feel too many people are slavishly buying or not buying depending on what the reviewers say - make up your own mind people !!! The Atlanticus looks great on the wrist, and plays with the light really well and is excellent value ( in my opinion ) for the money. I have no regrets buying this one on the strength of my prior experience of the brand and specs of the watch - at the time of my purchase there were no reviews on You Tube. I done my homework then bought the watch.

    I like the design, but would prefer a three o'clock date (or day-date!) in a compressor. I realize that people are all into dial symmetry, but a compressor is even more about functionality and utility, and they could have done it with the NH35. Good to see these. Thanks for sharing them.

    I disagree Jody. I've got one and the bezel on mine works perfectly, not woogidy at all. The strap, while not waterproof is extremely comfortable, not stiff in the least. Plus, it's a quick release, super easy to change. As far as the finish, I've got the Odyssea and the Dan Henry (40mm) and they have the same finishing and it bothers me not one little bit. Mine was $241.00 shipped to Texas and I have to say, it's quite a bargain. I'd be interested to see how many out there have the same issue with the bezel as you and how many are solid, like mine. I HIGHLY recommend this watch!

    HELLOUW!! I agree Jody, it really needs a sapphire crystal. The bezel is also poorly done. Even if the sloppy gearing was improved, the bezel cannot be locked in position, making it a substandard diver (see what I did there). The look and size are OK. The back is the highlight, original and beautifully executed. But... when the back is the best part, something is amiss.

    Yes, I have the Dan Henry and it's a very nice watch for the money. That bezel action is Really Low Grade. Solid review mate!

    I have a vintage that is shaking here and there. But I forgive it due to its age... For a new one I would expect better specs as you pointed out.
    Awesome review... Love it♥♥♥

    I received mine in the mail and although it looks improved from the watch shown, there is still bezel “float” when you rotate the bezel. That being said, for the price, I think you are still getting a solid value and honestly, who is going diving with this anyways? My bezel is always going to be stuck at the 12 o’clock position.

      I've just ordered the Black & Orange paid $136 U.S. with shipping hope mine doesn't have the Bezel issue but like you say doubt I'll be diving with it 🎄

    Thank you I appreciate your honest review the RLG looks very nice but the inner bezal would have driven me nuts I have owned both Dan Henry versions I like the 40mm more the build quality and QC are excellent but the lume is nothing to right home about this coming from a big Dan Henry fan have you thought about doing reviews of the Seagull mechanicals like the 1963 v Boltic v Mercier Wach v Hoffman Diver 40mm ($425-$465 USD I would be happy to lend for review

    I'm not too worried about the strap since I could always swap it out for another strap in my collection, but that bezel needs some work. It's a shame too, because that's a really nice looking watch for $220.

    Jody, no offense to the hard working souls at RLG, but I appreciate the honest review. This raises standards, expectations, and shows us your integrity. They’ll fix this minor aberration and we’ll keep watching your reviews. Nice work, sir.

    try that same thing on a seiko alpinist with its inner rotating bezel. at 3 times the price it has the same problem but its a bit less on the seiko

    I have the RLG and the Dan Henry, the Dan Henry is my pick of the two watches, that said the RLG is worth what I paid even with the inner bezel play. I really do not think that either watch is a true diver, they look good on the wrist and are unique.

    Jody, another comprehensive, honest review. Such a pity about that bezel, at least it's enclosed! Perhaps you should have mentioned, the Dan Henry's (40mm)and the best colours for the Spinnaker are sold out and the Seiko is not pretty. There's always the Longines legend for $2k?

      Spinnaker are making a fresh batch currently. Too thick though! There is still an opportunity for a killer budget compressor...... This ain't it.

    I think they're great looking watches. The blue one with the red tipped second hand reminds me a bit of the blue Bond Seamasters. But that bezel just kills all interest I had. They should've gone the extra mile, done the bezel right, and raised the price a bit. Everyone in the comments is saying the bezel killed it for them . It doesn't matter how low the price is if nobody buys it.
    Great review Jody!

    I must say I like the look of the watch. Another honest review sponsored by the manufacturer. Leather back not a bother to me as don't dive. And I think could look sweet on a Nato strap. Must say i really enjoy your reviews.

    Good honest review. Thanks Jody. Nice watch, but that rotating bezel that wobles is unforgivable (in my opinion). Keep them coming 👌🏼👌🏼

    Another great review Jody. Can't help but laugh at the comments of the desk divers where the bezel is seemingly a deal breaker. Yes, it's unforgivable but I own many dive watches and rarely touch the bezel. I wonder how many others actually use the bezel? Not for me this one but the bezel wouldn't be the deal breaker.

    I wonder why they went with the NH35 instead of the NH38 which is identical but doesn't have a date wheel and would solve the ghost date wheel issue

    Well EPSA no longer exists, but the appropriation of the cross hatch bothers me it's not a supercompressor. I wonder if they put the slop in the bezel on purpose to make assembly easy. The spinnaker is decidedly a better value.

    Jody, I know I'm late to the conversation, but I was redirected to this video from your "5 best / worst from 2019". Excellent video. Have you com across the ORIENT King Master (a reissue from the 1960's King Diver). I'm trying to get one and think it could be a very good super compressor style watch to scratch that itch. Best for 2020!!!

    @justonemorewatch I finally sprung for a blue one of these because of the sale price. Very nice watch for the money. Less than perfect the buckle is too big, it is a mineral crystal after all.... But it really looks a lot more expensive than it is it looks like a high-end watch with that blue sunburst effect and I feel like they did the brushing really well

  • @Br0ns0n
    @Br0ns0n 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for another great review, mate. You know, it dose have some
    shortcomings, but at that price they are largely forgivable. It looks
    pretty sharp and has a very reliable movement. It's great value for
    money...until you get to that wobbly bezel action. I can't see people
    really falling in love with the watch because of that. It was a deal
    breaker to me. I was ready to order one right up til you moved that
    bezel.

    Like the watch, but as you say I would prefer quality at $300 as opposed to a few design floors at the lesser amount.

  • @TedCornish

    Close but no cigar. The spinnaker is still the king of that price range

  • @paulhart2021

    The inner rotating bezel mechanism is a deal-breaker, but I'm really disappointed in the crystal as well. Sapphire coated mineral translates into not being as scratch resistant. I would have paid more $$$ for better quality on both. I think they are coming out with a alternative to that strap very soon.
