sorry, I didn't see your reply before submitting my own, your right, that JPS Lotus car was stunning, I live a few miles from the hethel lotus site and that JPS model has a place in my heart, I love the black and gold, its a time tested formula (presumably going back to Egyptian times when ebony was layered with gold), timeless classic.

I believe the Seiko snkl23 led me to your channel...and I haven't looked back since! The Seiko ''sith!'/55 is a lovely piece, opened to extreme modding. They are some beautiful bezels/dials/hands out there. I recently put a dark blue glass bezel on mine. It's gorgeous, but because it's glass, so it gets treated as my dress watch for dinners. Oh! Love that tropic strap! It really makes the watch pop! Keep up the good work!

Jody, Jody, Jody, we must be brothers from different mothers. I just bought two of the SNZH57 - gonna mod one and keep the other pristine. Haven’t even arrived yet. Now, I’m REALLY curious about your Sea Urchin review. The SNZF17 is one of my favorites. I’m guessing you’re gonna like that one too. Looking forward to your review my friend. Keep up the great work.

I put mine on a mesh SS bracelet, which vastly improved comfort, weight and wearability. The factory bracelet gave me a little wrist fatigue after wearing it for a lengthy amount of time. Kind of gives it a Seamaster flare to it as well.

My favorite Seiko? I got it yesterday. It is Seiko number four for me. It is a Turtle Save the the Oceans, SRPC91J1. I don't really know if the J1 makes any difference, but the sub-dial/indices/ bezel all seem to be well aligned and I am enjoying it

Just ordered this beauty. I was looking for a near daily driver - diver (shallow diver) with a less aggressive aesthetic/more classic look, and your review hit the mark. I fortunately found a J1 build located one day’s shipping away. Will have to add a racer strap for a cool hybrid look. I appreciate your channel. Stay sharp and always wound up!

The styling is interesting without a doubt. I have always been a sucker for black/gold colour combinations. And the finishing is always good quality for the price. Hollow end links annoys some but for me not the biggest deal considering the affordable price of this watch.

A good buy and actually a good family within the model series. Easy to overlook and to turn your back on. I did for the last year until I picked up this model and it's blue faced cousin. Like you, I was in the SKX collector mod mode :) A rugged watch that takes well to being modded. Like this watch :) Looking forward to more from you.

My favorte Seikos right now is their ReCraft line. Updates of their 70's stylings. Many of which I think are brilliant and some of the best designs out there period. "Just" the 7S26 movement but they're fine. Very reasonably priced. Have a SNKN02 (not one of the more popular ones) and love it. Looks way better in person than the product shots.

I've never been into dive-style watches, but I am into Seikos. The domed crystal and lack of crownguards are a winning combo on this one for me. I'm going for the blue dial. Or all of them. And some straps.

I have the Spinnaker Fleuss with Sapphire crystal and NH35 Movement so it hacks and hand-winds. 150m water resistance, nice lume on dial, hands AND bezel, water resistant leather strap, signed crown, exhibition case and looks more like the Blancpain 50 Fathoms IMO. Just costs a little more than the Seiko after the discount code. The watch dial has more detail also which I enjoy!

I have had the blue SNZH53 for a couple years now. It is by far the best "Seiko 5" model. The only demerits in my book are the bracelet and the 7S movement. If it had solid end-links, hand-winding, and sapphire it would be perfect. As it is, it is a good value for a cool looking watch. That said, this model looks great on nearly any strap you put it on ( I have been using a Barton Elite Silicon most of the summer ).

Exceptionally attractive. The crystal freaks me out a bit. Straps I usually replace. Crystal? That topic terrified me. The expense and the possible destruction of any water resistance were the key factors. That is, until I watched some of your mod vids. The sapphire mod has opened me to watches I esthetically adore, but wouldn't have bothered with.
    Thank you again

I actually had a Blancpain fifty fathom that my Dad passed on to me several years back. It was a military version and it had a moisture patch under the center of the movement on the face. I had to sell it recently to take care of our debts. I really hated to lose it but I had an offer I couldn’t refuse. I have been looking at the fifty five fathom for awhile, but you just pushed me over the edge. I will mod it to as perfect replica as I can. I haven’t found a face with the moisture litmus patch yet, but when I do, and if I can find a bezel with the diamond shaped marker at the top, I feel it will match close enough to satisfy me.

  • @seranadesongs

That Seiko with the hardlex crystal and bezel looks really nice. Personally I prefer the 2 piece nato or perlon instead of the long natos that you have to tuck in the remaining strap on the side. But anyway, those yellowish indices and numbers really stand out well with that black dial. Have a good one Jody!

  • @joninawhitecoat

Almost same as me. I bought mine in mid summer. Prices are going up regarding most of Seiko's models. These older fun Seiko 5 models with out of date 7s26 movements will soon vanish (I don't see they would update their old 5 models with 4r36/NH36 movements). I've been thinking about buying a few more of the affordable ~37-40mm models before the are totally phased out.

I've both the blue version fff mod (with numerals at 12,3,6 & 9) on a great tan leather 4mm strap and the black version (Dagaz with great Lume and sapphire crystal dome) on a black sailcloth strap. Hey Jody. I've had my eyes on a diver for a bit. I really like a compressor style case but can't find one to my liking at my budget. Thought hard about the Heindallr 'Capt. Willard' homage but I didn't wanna go Chinese. I was looking at some '50 fathoms' on eBay when I saw the modded '55 fathoms' version of this watch for around $400AUD, modded by a guy here in Aus. I *almost* pulled the trigger but soon found the OG (un-modded) version of this piece for around $250AUD new. I quickly decided the mod, whilst really good, wasn't worth $150 to me so pulled the trigger on it - as well as the same tropical as your Uncle Seiko, but cheaper.
Looking forward to having another Seiko in the collection! My 1st Seiko 5.

I've had the blue dial of this for about a year now and it's a great watch. I alternate it between the bracelet (is it OK to love seiko's garbage bracelets???) and a colareb. You used to see the black bezel/white dial versions but they where rarer and more expensive, and although I can't claim to be searching hard or anything, I ain't seen one for a while.

Jody, Try the NATOs from Moose Straps. I’ve tried a few brands but they are the most comfortable by a mile. Their hardware is beautiful and their price is reasonable. I’ve looked at this watch too only because of the Blancpain mod. That way you can get rid of the date window. It ruins the dial in my opinion. Cheers.

My favorite Seiko / Gran Seiko is the MarineMaster 300.

5:02 I do not think the Seiko shares significant features with the Blancpain 50 Fathoms. Everything seems different to me.

That is a classy looking watch, for sure. It looks far more expensive than it is.
BTW, your first Seiko (Model SNZG15J1) was my first Seiko, except mine is green dial variant (SNZG09J1). I like it and still wear it occasionally.

Removing the steel bracelet to replace it with a nato strap is like buying a Porsche and then replacing its engine with one from a Daewoo.

Not at all like that. 1st-it is more like a 'classic' mid 2000's Miata than a Porsche for reasons such as being from a Japanese company; a modern interpretation of a classic; the sexy kettle like case sides that remind me of the fat fender flares and power bulge of the hood on the Miata...IMHO-putting this AFFORDABLE automatic on varying straps such as a NATO, rubber, mesh, original steel are ALL the modding that should be done to personalize this and mix up the look of this brilliant watch that punches well above its weight...this video inspired me to take out my SNZH55 on an olive NATO and give it some much deserved wrist time! ty

A NH35/36, sapphire crystal and bezel, 200m WR, decent bracelet, crown at 4 o'clock, ... and it would be perfect.

That's been my main everyday watch for about 2 years now. It's a great watch and looks very nice. Just wish it had hand winding and a screw down crown. Of course my crystal is scratched. Hardlex sucks but I might consider replacing it with sapphire.

Bought this watch back in February of this year (2022) and it's a fantastic- looking watch. I just wish it ran more accurate because mine gains about 16-24 seconds a day. Still within spec but these Japanese movements deliberately put big numbers in their tolerance ratings. Still, it looks perfect. It's the only watch I wear these days, except occasionally my G-Shock.

being a Norfolk boy of a certain age this watch instantly reminded me of the JPS lotus formula 1 cars of the early 70's. I used to have a model of that car and this watch hit all sorts of nostalgia buttons, take a look at the car (bright-cars.com/uploads/lotus/lotus-72/lotus-72-05.jpg), its still one of my favourite F1 car designs today. This watch has gone straight to the top of my 'want' list as the aesthetics remind me so much of the JPS. for me this is the most attractive watch you have reviewed for some time. class... class... class...

I bought the blue 53 a few years ago and did the mod, and later regretted doing the mod. It's very nice as it is. Now, in 2018, I think the 57 is the better look for this model.
