      I'm not a Vostok 'fanboy', I'm 63 and have owned only one; a scuba dude in a 720 case.

      Timex Navitimer:
      I bought one second-hand, full-set, for peanuts (I wanted a quartz to regulate my mechanical watches).
      The finishing was a joke, it came with two 'natos', a nylon and a leather, both of which were over 1mm shy of the lug width.
      The dial was as flat as 'a witches tit'.
      p.s. the second hand had a relationship with the markers like a vampire with garlic.
      Absolute crap.
      I sold it online at a reasonable profit, but felt guity about it.

      @@joelplascencia3568 I too like the fit of my Orient Rays, even though they are 41.5. I believe it has to do with Orient's wider bands, which distract from the watch's diameter, plus, the lugs turn downward at just the proper angle.

    The Luminox looks like the CASIO MRW200H I’m currently wearing on my wrist … and my CASIO costs $40. Quartz movement, 10bar water resistance and frankly AMAZINGLY accurate - losing around 1-2aec a month. For the price it cannot be beat - best for us in the “small wrist” club.

    Well done, Ben -- a great video. I think you make a point here that just begins to scratch the surface of an issue more manufacturers should consider: generally, men's watches are too, too large. Anything over 40mm is noticeably big on even larger wrists, and watches over 43mm simply look ridiculous. I wish the industry would learn a lesson from its history, and produce more watches in the 38-40mm range.

  • @7rslender
    @7rslender 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Great video. In general Seiko Diver Watches usually wear much smaller than the specs would suggest.
    With my skinny 6 inch wrist, I can pull off an SPR777 Turtle no problem.
    This actually led me to try on an SLA021 MM300 which also felt fine. I ended up getting the discontinued SBDX017 MM300 which is pretty comfy on my wrist. The last addition to the bunch was an SBDC061 MM200. Also, no problem to wear.
    I must say though I am not a bracelet guy and all 3 watches are on Phoenix or CWC G10 Nato straps.
    If you like a watch and think it's too big for you, go and try it on! Especially if it's a Seiko. What they do with their cases is some kind of magic.

    Solid work here Ben, and I actually said to myself close to the end of this video: This must've taken a hell of a time to put togheter. Great work piecing all this stuff together.
    As an example, that Seizeen sure gives that over priced (IMHO) Timex a match. An NH35 automatic instead of quartz and better bracelet for less money? Now, that's interesting (and yeah, of course I'm aware of the conditions in China when it comes to manufacturing costs compared to the "western world" and bla bla..). These nostaliga releases are often rarely upgraded but instead with way, way more increaseing prices. Its's like a watch from 1980, without any upgrading but you're paying ridiculously prices for this one now.
    I also appreciate when you give microbrands a notice here, sometimes these are really good value with great quality, even though they cant compete price wise to the all familiar AliExpress brands. Keep up the good work.

    I've got a few watches from this list for my scrawny wrists, but my diver which gets the most wrist time by far is the Armida A11. At 36mm it's smaller than I thought I'd ever go but I absolutely love it. It has an ETA movement for under $400, a milsub-esque design, great lume, and my version has the day at 6'oclock and not just the date which is really unique. Would wholeheartedly recommend to just about anybody seeking a compact diver, it scratches an itch I thought I would only get from tracking down a Tudor Submariner 75090 or an Omega Seamaster 2551.

    A wildcard suggestion would be a Seiko Monster. Availability for gen 1 and 2 models is a bit limited now, and the gen 3 and 4 watches are on the expensive side, but they do genuinely wear much smaller than you might think from the dimensions (in my opinion anyway!). My wrist is around 15.5-16cm and while the Monster looks big, it doesn't look like it's too big, if that makes sense. I think it's the short curved lugs, and the shallow height making it fit better.

    The Lorier Neptune is an awesome vintage styled dive watch even though it is $500 USD!! I know since you are not a fan of homage watches, I really encourage you to check out the Heimdallr Sea Ghost. It's an homage to the Omega Seamaster 300 Professional 007 Edition. However, for $250 USD, you are getting a titanium dive watch with a tropical brown dial, a Seiko NH35 movement, a functional helium escape valve and a really great Milanese mesh bracelet with a deployment clasp. It is a 42mm watch with a 49mm lug to lug, but I find it fits my 6 inch wrist!! It's the maximum I would go for a dive watch. I got it a week before the US premier of No Time to Die and it hasn't left my wrist!! It's a really cool watch for the money

    Vostok komandirskie no doubt an an amazing, small quirky timepiece, with as many options as the colours at the paint isle in B&Q.

    As a member of of the small -wrist club I found this very useful -- so much so that I bookmarked it for future reference. Have you done the same for chronographs?

    Awesome selection mate, this is exactly what I was looking for. The San Martin looks really impressive as does the seiko turtle. Really like the look of the RLG too. I wouldn't get another yema though despite liking them. Had too many issues with terrible customer services from them.

      Your not the first one I've heard complain about Yema I'm thinking there made in China or Hong Kong and assembled in France, this includes there in-house movment . I've got nothing against China or Hong Kong but I don't appreciate being lied to . I'm thinking alot of these french brands do this .

    I have the Odyssea and enjoy it. Granted: with a 7.5" wrist I get to pull off a lot of watches, but I can't seem to find a reason to dislike the watch. The bracelet has some QA issues, but not enough for me to RMA the thing. 4.5 stars!

    Amazing video. About the Islander 38mm... I own one and it has become my one watch collection for the past 4 months. Perfect everyday watch, it's built like a tank and it's way better looking than the SKX013. I had the opportunity to borrow a 013 a couple weeks ago and it feels cheap next to the Islander.
    It's a great alternative, and I would call it a homage but the 2.0 version that Seiko never delivered to its customers.

    • @nplus1watches35
      @nplus1watches35 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. For something under $300USD it kicks Seiko's 013 to the curb with hacking and hand winding. And because divers come with bezels, the actual dial size (as opposed to case size) makes it wear even smaller.

    This is probably the best list on this subject! Really appreciate you focusing on realistically affordable watches🙌🏽
    i’m super curious about islander watches though. Maybe you could review the ISL-63? On paper, it looks like a great dive watch for smaller wrists!

    Excellent work on this Ben. So many great watches here. Funny how (to me) that Luminox looks so cheap... probably my least favorite on the list. Top faves are probably the Baltic, RLG, Seiko mini T and that San Martin retro diver. But you really found a lot of gems. Thanks.

    One more suggestion: My favourite compact budget diver is my 40 mm Dan Henry 1970: perfect size for my 175 mm wrist, moderate weight, iconic 60s style, crazy lume (beats Seiko). $290.-

    Great to see videos like these. I would even consider the Seiko SRPG15 as I think the lug to lug is 45mm. It's kind of a hybrid field/dive watch though.

    Amazing breakdown, very tempted to get the Vostok, I used to have an early Kickstarter Maen Hudson but sold it and this video makes me miss it. One that I've found amazing is the Steinhart Ocean One, though it's an homage to older Rolex submariner models.
