@AiSEL IRAl I honestly agree with your aggressive criticisms for their vid. I dont think trying to gauge realism in a game that is anything BUT works in this channel's benefit. Sam was definitely the closest to real life usage of sword techniques. Everything Raiden does for the most part is a fantastical display of "what if" humans are no longer physically constrained. They didnt even grasp the idea behind why Raiden used his heels and legs to swing his sword around, which is basically because the human leg can generate so much more force than the arms. Like come on, the 2 are trained professionals in their respective combat profession and they didnt think of that reasoning on the spot, and instead just basically called it flashy ninja-esque moves in a game. Is it possible in real life? Most likely not and even if one were to try it, they'd need a short blade like a knife installed into their footwear similar to the bladed sandals etc in martial arts movies featuring assasins of some sort. Even then, doing it the why Raiden did is an impossible human feat, theres no comparisons the 2 could have made. Then the whole mincing of the enemies, looks like the guy who played the game forgot the player can actually just perform 1 single precise slash and take out the spinal batteries. The excessive mincing is just there for the players to let out some steam and have fun. I honestly think, this type of video topic can be so much more fun if the 2 combat professionals went in knowing what the game is about and separate reality from fantasy. Like talk about the moveset's inspiration and how it was changed with the added fantastical element. Like Sam's quick draw. It was cool as hell how he pulled the trigger and used the added momentum of the blade, being shot out of the sheath, to quickly slice off Raiden's arm. Thats the real quick draw technique, enhanced with fantastical element. Its also one of the more grounded fantasy elements too which makes one think something like that CAN actually be possible in reality if human constraints were just a tad bit lowered.
"you just cant cut multiple people" Sorry, but high frequency blades vibrate to such a degree that it slices to a near atomic degree, and its like slicing butter.

It always annoys me when someone just comes out of nowhere and says it doesn't work like that or something like that just i dont get why people cant let other people enjoy fiction
I noticed that too, how his sword can cut through things much thicker then the length of the blades. I always believed that they are able to create a shockwave or plasmacutter-like burst out the tip of the blades, at certain times, like maybe he supercharges the blades for those rare but devastating cuts.
To be fair, the reason raiden doesn't need to generate much force when swinging his blade is because its a vibro sword and it can basically cut through anything. Death Battle did Raiden vs Wolverine and found out that his blade can basically cut through adamantium, human cyborgs are nothing compared to that.
You don't really need force if the blade does all the work in that regard. I dunno if the science checks out IRL, but in the Metal Gear world, that's how it works.
@@nobsherc You don't shoot it actually you Draw it literally why it was called an Iaijutsu or if you a literal Weeb for Japanese History a Battoujutsu. @Kreuz Wahrwelt the crazy thing about Sam is he doesn’t use kind of any cybernetic enhancements (Except his right arm) just uses a powerful exoskeleton
@@nobsherc that is actually a very cool idea behind that move. Metal Gear isnt grounded in reality so Sam pulling off the trigger shot quick draw like that is a pretty cool idea and actually is the most grounded fantastical move in the game. so much better than the gunblade when it 1st originated in the game Final Fantasy VIII, which was never explained in detail why the gunblade had a revolver like trigger or its need/usage in the game world besides being used as a controller gimmick for the player.
Sam's Katana with the trigger is one of the coolest video game weapons. I've always loved "draw" attacks in games with katanas but this game put such a badass spin on it.
This is honestly one of the things I did not quite understand why is it a legitimate dilemna. Does Raiden enjoy killing things? As admitted by himself, yes, even if he tried not to think about that. But was Raiden doing the correct thing? Also affirmative. By construction of MGRR's over the top and intentionally laughably evil plot behind the bad guys, there is no situation where Raiden could be seen as the bigger wrongdoer in his actions if not being the only realistic solution (as "realistic" as MGRR's world build is), compared to the actions of Desperado and Armstrong where they abduct and murder children to train as murderous cyborgs, as well as literal false flag operation to start a war with an unfriendly country for the sake of the economy or whatever batshit insane ideology the senator had. Ultimately, Raiden's actions might not be completely altruistic (which he could have just gotten away clean by insisting his "keep one sword drawn to keep the other in the shealth" ideology - "you hired those guys to do your evil deeds, and I don't kill them because it's funny instead of preventing a larger tragedy" - which would invalidate Monsoon along with the entire dilemna in the first place), but when there could not have been a way out into solving the forseeable tragedy bestowed upon everyone involved, Raiden is definitely in the "good" side of the matter and it's not possible to judge it as otherwise.
That limbo slicing scene still makes sense, because it's a high frequency blade that can cut through metal mechs with ease, and it being supported by the arm strength of an enhanced cyborg.
10:37 the coolest thing is to know that Sam is 🇧🇷. A powerful Brazilian Warrior master in the sword arts, there was no way, not to be my favorite character.
It's odd I played MGR just a week or so ago for the first time then this came out I don't think I've really seen a lot of games that have a sword actually be more like a sword like it does, you actually CUT through things rather than it being like a blunt object and it's great
Yes!!! I've been asking for this. Although, I really wish you showed them sundowner. I really wanted to know how they would react to seeing his scissor swords
The blades used in Rising are High Frequency blades, using electricity to vibrate the blade at such high speeds it weakens the molecular structure of what it contacts before cutting through it. Meaning it can literally cut through basically everything.
"I said my sword was a tool of justice. Not used in anger. Not used for vengeance. But now... Now I'm not so sure. And besides, this isn't my sword." -Raiden. BTW The Only Thing I Know For Real and It Has To Be This Way are my favorite soundtracks in this game.
I recently came across a home brew engineer working on what is essentially a fortified baseball bat with a mechanism using a .50cal charge to launch a hammer the moment the ball makes contact with said hammer. Suddenly Sam's .50cal quick draw is something we will probably live to see in reality. We may never be able to make it functional, but we'll at least get to see the aftermath of a sword being flung out of a sheath with enough force to obliterate a window or something.
first we gotta inject ourselves with nanomachines, son. then we’ll be able to quickdraw like Samuel Jetstream without the fear of having our arm flying off with the sword.
One thing that they forgot to note during the Jack the Ripper scene, is that Raiden is able to cut all the way through those guys because his sword is a high tech blade called a high frequency blade. It vibrates at such an intense speed that it basically chainsaws it's way through things at lightspeed.

5:43 I love the salt in Laurence's voice when he says "yes..." and yea, a kneeling stance isn't the best when you're fighting something as agile as Bladewolf Quick kenjutsu (Katori-Shinto-Ryu in this case) tidbit: Kneeling isn't really practical in general, it's an aftereffect of certain moves where you would slide your blade down past the opponent and get on your knees to hit their legs, which is a really cool technique if it hits, it just leaves you really vulnerable afterwards.
One correction, this was all Platinum amd zero Kojima. He himself wanted to be hands off but the team at Konami couldn't do a game of this style so they hired Platinum to do a ton after they built the basics. They did blade mode and the cutting mechanics but all of the flair is the Platinum touch.

@Ai7A But the point of this video was exactly only about the stances and techniques from a professional view(about those specific things), game is from 2013, this video is from 2020, maybe in the future they are going to invite some robotic and biomechanic engineers, you never know, they would kinda limit their content if they invited engineers and professionals about techniques in a single video, keep in mind this is their source of income, they need to "stretch" their content, it sucks but that's the way it is in this shitty world, almost everything is about money.

Let them take the surprise XD
What proud that guy is from my country
to be fair, you can see the sparks on his arm after the draw. you know that he lost his arm to armstrong in the dlc, so he had to replace it with a cyborg arm. raiden comments that "he barely had any enhancements", but that doesn't mean sam had none. also, the suit could provide a boost as well (if that kind of counts?). sam is still sick as fuck tho.

@@ruairidhgibb4177 I'm pretty certain that as far as swordsmanship goes Dante is just really good at flailing sharp things around. I think if they looked at perhaps King Cerberus' moveset or Ifrit/Beowulf/Balrog's moveset and had a martial artist in it'd be cooler
Oh yeah .
1:46 Funny is that normally blood wouldn't stick to the hf blade, since it's vibrating constantly..
These guys need to play through the entire game
@Ai7A IRAl Hey man.....
Did I ask?
Replaying the entire series chronologically, and this is my last game. I forgot how hype and balls to the wall it was

Sorry, but high frequency blades vibrate to such a degree that it slices to a near atomic degree, and its like slicing butter.
@Ai7A you think two dudes studying shit Japanese swordfighters did in the middle ages would know how a high-frequency sword works?

It always annoys me when someone just comes out of nowhere and says it doesn't work like that or something like that just i dont get why people cant let other people enjoy fiction
I adore how these guys genuinely seem to enjoy the overkill and theatrics of this game. Not like Soldiers killing moments of military movies, lol.

@Kreuz Wahrwelt the crazy thing about Sam is he doesn’t use kind of any cybernetic enhancements (Except his right arm) just uses a powerful exoskeleton
@@Azazantei Not just any plain Katana. A family heirloom Muramasa.

"You're still the good guy?" And here we are getting into the deeper story behind MGR:R.

Yup
10:37 the coolest thing is to know that Sam is 🇧🇷. A powerful Brazilian Warrior master in the sword arts, there was no way, not to be my favorite character.
It's odd I played MGR just a week or so ago for the first time then this came out
I don't think I've really seen a lot of games that have a sword actually be more like a sword like it does, you actually CUT through things rather than it being like a blunt object and it's great
This game has one of the greatest soundtracks of all time!
Yes!!! I've been asking for this. Although, I really wish you showed them sundowner. I really wanted to know how they would react to seeing his scissor swords
or the crazy reactive robot samurai armor.
The blades used in Rising are High Frequency blades, using electricity to vibrate the blade at such high speeds it weakens the molecular structure of what it contacts before cutting through it. Meaning it can literally cut through basically everything.

Mine is stains of time and only thing I know for real
I recently came across a home brew engineer working on what is essentially a fortified baseball bat with a mechanism using a .50cal charge to launch a hammer the moment the ball makes contact with said hammer. Suddenly Sam's .50cal quick draw is something we will probably live to see in reality. We may never be able to make it functional, but we'll at least get to see the aftermath of a sword being flung out of a sheath with enough force to obliterate a window or something.
Stuff made here... Lol I seen that

5:43 I love the salt in Laurence's voice when he says "yes..." and yea, a kneeling stance isn't the best when you're fighting something as agile as Bladewolf
Quick kenjutsu (Katori-Shinto-Ryu in this case) tidbit: Kneeling isn't really practical in general, it's an aftereffect of certain moves where you would slide your blade down past the opponent and get on your knees to hit their legs, which is a really cool technique if it hits, it just leaves you really vulnerable afterwards.
One correction, this was all Platinum amd zero Kojima. He himself wanted to be hands off but the team at Konami couldn't do a game of this style so they hired Platinum to do a ton after they built the basics. They did blade mode and the cutting mechanics but all of the flair is the Platinum touch.
Kojima made the story for this game, and Platinum made every thing else in the game
AFAIR Kojima worked as Consultant

He was only wrong that you cant cut bigger surface areas in that universe) Of course not, dont get me wrong, i love this game so much but come on man, you're literally spamming everywhere that they are so wrong and completely ignorant?? Literally the dude on the right side knows more about samurai and different real life fighting techniques than probably anyone in this whole comment section, they said that its really cool multiple times, they need to make a comparison to the real life bcs whats the point then? They would only say "it looks cool and thats awesome" until the end of the video 😂. Oh, yea, they aren't trying to trash this game at all, the dude on the left side loves it so much
@Ai7A mate, who asked about Mensa( i know the meaning behind Mensa, the explanation is not needed)? You really don't need to brag about that and you shouldn't. So, they can make some parts from that game in real life, that just proves my point, it still doesn't exist, no, they were not trashing this game at all, they were only making some comparisons to the real life (as we know it currently, it still doesn't exist even if some PMC's can somewhat make it), you should watch this channel more, every single time when they invite a professional to make a comparsion is literally the same as the dude on the right side, saying how some parts are completely ridiculous but it's really cool in that specific format/medium, it's not their point to bash on the game in this video at all.
I was thinking about them in a Sekiro video, that would be a better mix... it already exists 😂
