  • Rathbuns tetra are a delightful species that has far too many names - green fire tetra, and red flank blood fin tetra to name just two more. For the most part they are easy to keep and have very few specific needs, just be a little careful about their tank mates as they can be fin-nippers
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
    Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
    Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
    Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
    Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
    My filming stuff
    Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

I have these, in a group of 7. I find all of this info to be true! Love them! Such a fun little fish! And I love seeing them highlighted, as you don’t hear about them as often! Thanks for the great info!

I love your channel. You have a great speaking voice for your excellent writing. You also get right to the point and provide very practical advice for keeping different species. Thanks! I’ve watched many of your videos as I choose my stocking for my new 55.

I keep these in a 40b with a couple types of cories and a group of Pearl gourami. I’ve never observed any behavior like fin nipping or sparring, but they definitely do stay out in the open more than my cardinal tetras did. I wonder if my group is large enough to keep that aggression down, I have about 15 in there. As far as feeding goes, you’re right on the money… mine eat everything but the spirulina flakes mixed in with some of my food!

just grabbed a group for 7 of these, they been sitting in my LFS for a few months now and they always got my attention, just set up a tank and LFS was having a boxing week sale so it was an obvious choice

Keeping green fires in a larger group 12-15 can help avoid nipping .As you said Lauren tank suggestions minimum 60cm or 24 inches in length preferably 90cm or 30 inches , as this is a very active swimmer.
