  • Normans lampeye killifish is a small fish from the savannahs of Africa that deserves a place in most tanks thanks to its small size, very peaceful nature and ease of keeping. But sadly they tend to get overlooked for their more flashier cousins.
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
    Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
    Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
    Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
    Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
    My filming stuff
    Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

They're immediately hardy and tough, sad that you've not had a great experience. Would be happy to go through what I did👍

Hello. I am a fishkeeper currently living in the tropics (so I don't use heaters).
Due to conflicting guides online relating to this fish, I only kept them in a 15 gallon wide dirted tank and with no free space at home, a bigger tank was not possible.
I started with 6 killies and managed to breed them successfully even with a pair of male endler guppies. Although they are more than 6(8) now, I managed to keep all of them alive for months now. I have given away the population above 10 to someone else while keeping those remaining 10 in that same tank. I believe the key was heavily planting that tank for their hiding spots while still having some space for them to swim around especially when feeding them.

I needed some african dither fish in my african tank which i already have a pair of kribs housed in. Checked out some of the african tetras but they get too big. Then i accidentally stumbled upon these guys at the lfs. They immediately caught my attention with those sparkling blue eyes. And they stay small. I had no knowledge about them and a staff at the lfs ignorantly said they originated from southeast asia. But im so glad to have found these guys now. I hope they breed for me as i heard they are prolific breeders with very minimal requirements.

i've definitely walked past baby lampeyes a million times at my local fish store. But when I visited another store, they had a huge school of like 150 sub-adults, and it was absolutely incredible. It's a shame not many people get the chance to see their beauty, since they walk past the fry

I had a school of 20 in an unheated tank, is better to maintain them in the temperate side (18-22), i had fluval stratum in the setup and i was adding soft water, so the was around 6.4ph, and they bred, when i check the hob filter i have around 6-7 fries living in there. They are super nice fish, but they are very agresive when they are breeding

Definitely one of my favorites. I had the misfortune of buying 5 and all 5 died. So I bought more because I really like these fish. I don’t know why but they are very appealing and beautiful in spite of their tiny little size and simple colors.

They look great in a species tank in large numbers...

Yes totally agree! My local fish store here in Japan had them in an only species tank and that’s the only way I recognized them. Like the narrator said those striking blue dots

@1:49 I am unsure about the base dimension // "minimum tank size: 80cm" so they need "leg room" ?

      or fin room 🙂
