The drums of liberation are PERFECT. Not over the top, not too ominous (I was afraid they'd focus too much on the 'epic-factor') but perfectly joyful and anticipative. They get you excited, you just know something big is about to happen.
And knowing few next chapters, something *big* will happen.

The drums of liberation playing and Nami's emotional sobbing over Luffy's death were the best parts of this episode. The voice actress did a spectacular job in capturing Nami's sadness. It was so stupendous that I actually felt her pain.

Joyboy is inspired by the carriban myth of the same name , its a legend about a spirit that plays with a drum a cheerfull song that you cant help but dance to, he is also related to the freeing of slaves , witch is also part of the nikka tale in one piece
If you wait until the OST finishes around 1:31 you can hear what the ACTUAL sound of the drums of liberation sounds like in Luffy’s heart.

See one reason I feel some dissonance from the insane peaks of hype is that we the audience, haven’t been waiting for Joyboy forever, or even for a substantial time while reading One Piece. It’s a very new concept, why is it so exciting? I’ve followed OP for over 10 years, and Joyboy’s return isn’t something I’ve been waiting for until I was told to in this chapter.
People keep repeating “finally Joyboy has returned” like it’s this godtier fulfillment of something, and probably a lot of that is just hype for the Gear 5 form and powers. But idk lol

Not really. Technically all mythical zoan users are "gods" as the power from their fruit is directly connected to various mythical entities that existed/exist through out the one piece world. Kaidos dragon, yamatos wolf god, Marcos phoenix.
But Luffy's is definately on the stronger end, as it's supposed to have been shared with a man 800 years ago who changed history. So obviously it has to be stronger.
