Jay drilling out dimples like a boss.
You could use a knockout punch instead of a step bit. I find it easier to use, less chances of messing up, and it makes for a cleaner job. This is what's used in electrical industrial application when you don't want to deal with all of the metal particles that the step bit makes.
That plate looked like 5mm thick or so
pretty sure a hole saw or step bit is fine if your drilling 2 holes in a month. once his rate is closer to 2 every 10 minutes the bits are going to become too expensive to keep sharp and it's time to look for more effective alternatives
Double 90's heading straight back from below the GPU's would look really cool (With bulkhead fittings like above the CPU), then routing to the res from behind the back plate. I think it'd give things a really clean and stylish look.

No joke. It's taken me about 5 months of saving for a Ryzen upgrade (just mobo and ram so far), and I still don't have the cpu. The only reason I'm able to pull it off is because this month is a 3 payday month, so free paycheck. Then I get to order the cpu.
And this is a budget upgrade.

a belt sander is a little over kill, a orbital would be more then enough some one start Jay a go fund me so we can raise $39 to make his dream come true.

Yeah a belt sander can go a long way. Especially if you make small adjustments just like he was doing.
I wouldn't use an orbital sander to trim down metal tube.
The metal pipes look so good, totally worth the effort 👍

Use old hdd magnets under where you drill to catch most of the metal shavings, less to clean up after.
That probably won't work most cases are made of aluminum now
I actually love how your taking your time on this epic build, it really gives you time to really visualize how you want the loops to look and will avoid the "Should of's Would've Could've" at the end =) Cheers cant wait till the final cut.
Thank you for telling us about the de-burr bit!! In the field these are usually called CONDUIT REAMERs. PrimoChill calls it a "Rigid Finishing Bit", as their is used to de-burr in addition to trimming, but there is just a small difference between the tools, and shouldn't matter much.
They are also called passthrough fittings... Also, you could always use a washer to give you much much more freedom

One looks a fraction lower than the other. It's not an exact science with a christmas tree bit though thick metal, drilling both sides. He would have been better investing in the correct size drill bit.

From experience it's hard to make tubing look aligned from every angle.

I actually really like the slow advancement for this build. excites me even more to wait for the next episode to come out
i once calculated water temps depending on loop order.. with measurements taken from a DDC-Powered Loop my friend has. he reaches >30ml/sec flow, so around 112l/h.
a 300W-Part heats up the water by 2,3K (Kelvin), and by going from CPU-GPU-RAD-RAD to CPU-RAD-GPU-RAD you lose around 0,7K on the CPU, and gain 1K on the GPU.
so even with a DDC, the coldest point vs hottest point have a maximum delta below 5K if you stay below 700W total.
Jay might reach 1,2kW here (2x 300W GPU, maybe 600W CPU), but he has a D5 which should me more powerfull than the baby-ddc.
so with the math done, i can agree that loop order doesnt matter.
Could you disassemble the heatspreaders on the RAM and put in the regular white top piece from the non-royal modules?
Obviously it's your build, I just think the diamond style thing is awful, but I totally get that you went with them for the chrome.
Can't wait to see the finished build - it's gonna be awesome. My first thought for the GPUs was to run straight down through the the bottom - but I like your idea, it might give it sort of an engine-y look with the different chrome tubes running up and exiting next to each other.
I would go for EKWB nickel plated Monarch RAM modules. Not watercooling the memory, just using them as replacement for G-Skill heatspreaders. Would match the build perfectly while not looking like jewellery. :)

This build is looking so clean. I can't wait to see what it looks like completed. You have way more patience than I do. I would be in such a rush to build it out of sheer excitement knowing how badass it's going to look. Hopefully no further complications.

The only way for this build to be overkill is to watercooled the RAM!!
I've been messing around in Sketchup with a case design since 2016 that received its fifth iteration without so much as a single panel of it existing in real life. Thanks to your inspiring work in recent weeks with the mini ITX mod and now this, it has received a complete overhaul and is now Mark VI, and I'm ready to call it done and build it.

In my 800D i used those kind of fittings as pass through as well. I tore out the HDD section hidden down below with the PSU and shoved the pumps down there. Using those I put them through the normal holes already there for tubbing but used it as a point to transition between soft and hard tubing.

No Jay, you do not measure this way. You put the calipers at an angle and use the flat part of the jaws instead of the narrow part. Otherwise great vid as usual!

Jay, from my experience using pyramid bits, I always do a pilot > hole saw > pyramid bit. It would have helped you out tremendously in this I feel.

That spring loaded thingy is an impact center punch. Their good for pretty much any job requiring removing or marking. I have quite a few of them that came with my Stanley fatmax left, right and straight tinsnips as a combo kit.

My old GeForce 4 Ti 4400 had chrome on the heatsink and ended up very discolored after years of usage. Loving the chrome though!

Thanks for the video Jay! I was a machinist mate and a power plant mechanic back in the day, I would call this a "bulkhead" fitting. They are used where plumbing has to pass through water tight bulkheads on ships. Doesn't really apply here but I don't know what else to call it.
