    For real though, routing the power cables through the tube would be awesome.

      I've thought about routing sleeved power cables through hardline tubing and even did some testing but it looks pretty bad at the mainboard end.

    • @Silky_boi
      @Silky_boi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I actually tried it with copper tubing a few years ago, I couldn’t really pull it off but I bet someone out there will nail it.

    • @I_NeedCoffee
      @I_NeedCoffee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be pretty cool. What cables could fit in there though?

    • @RedSunFX
      @RedSunFX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      How do you actually put the cable through the tube? Especially the 24-pin motherboard cable. The only way I can think of, would be to the remove plug on the end, pull the cable through and put the plug back on.
      Doing this to a modern power cable seems an especially bad idea, as all wires are black for optical purposes. Even if you are careful, it would be easy to mix up two wires and cause actual damage.

    Jay, as someone who works in a machine shop, wearing cloth gloves when working with anything spinning is a bad idea, if it catches the glove the glove doesn’t rip but it can take all of your fingers off with it

    • @joost199207
      @joost199207 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thats sound advice, but he's using a hand drill, you'd let go of the trigger out of reflex before it rips any finger off (if it even could). And i think he wore those gloves because of the sharp edges of the metal.
      If he'd be using a drill press you'd be absolutely right, since it stays on when using.

      Plus remove all rings, watches/wristlets, neck jewelry. You never know, and you'd rather not know.
      As written long ago, once upon a time someone ignored people and the 'remove all jewelry' warning signs. Machines are quick. Machinery removed the ring from that 'someone.' The ring was fine. The finger was 'pulled out by the root' however.

      This is my ridiculous long comment about your comment LOL!!!
      Zeal to promote the common good, whether it be by devising anything ourselves, or revising that which hath been laboured by others, deserveth certainly much respect and esteem, but yet findeth but cold entertainment in the world. It is welcomed with suspicion instead of love, and with emulation instead of thanks: and if there be any hole left for cavil to enter, (and cavil, if it do not find a hole, will make one) it is sure to be misconstrued, and in danger to be condemned. This will easily be granted by as many as know story, or have any experience. For, was there ever any-projected, that savoured any way of newness or renewing, but the same endured many a storm of gainsaying, or opposition? A man would think that Civility, wholesome Laws, learning and eloquence, Synods, and Church-maintenance, (that we speak of no more things of this kind) should be as safe as a Sanctuary, and out of shot, as they say, that no man would lift up the heel, no, nor dog move his tongue against the motioners of them. For by the first, we are distinguished from brute beasts lead with sensuality; By the second, we are bridled and restrained from outrageous behaviour, and from doing of injuries, whether by fraud or by violence; By the third, we are enabled to inform and reform others, by the light and feeling that we have attained unto ourselves; Briefly, by the fourth being brought together to a parley face to face, we sooner compose our differences than by writings which are endless; And lastly, that the Church be sufficiently provided for, is so agreeable to good reason and conscience, that those mothers are holden to be less cruel, that kill their children as soon as they are born, than those nursing fathers and mothers (wheresoever they be) that withdraw from them who hang upon their breasts (and upon whose breasts again themselves do hang to receive the Spiritual and sincere milk of the word) livelihood and support fit for their estates. Thus it is apparent, that these things which we speak of, are of most necessary use, and therefore, that none, either without absurdity can speak against them, or without note of wickedness can spurn against them. Yet for all that, the learned know that certain worthy men [Anacharsis with others] have been brought to untimely death for none other fault, but for seeking to reduce their Countrymen to god order and discipline; and that in some Commonwealths [e.g. Locri] it was made a capital crime, once to motion the making of a new Law for the abrogating of an old, though the same were most pernicious; And that certain [Cato the elder], which would be counted pillars of the State, and patterns of Virtue and Prudence, could not be brought for a long time to give way to good Letters and refined speech, but bare themselves as averse from them, as from rocks or boxes of poison; And fourthly, that he was no babe, but a great clerk [Gregory the Divine], that gave forth (and in writing to remain to posterity) in passion peradventure, but yet he gave forth, that he had not seen any profit to come by any Synod, or meeting of the Clergy, but rather the contrary; And lastly, against Church-maintenance and allowance, in such sort, as the Ambassadors and messengers of the great King of Kings should be furnished, it is not unknown what a fiction or fable (so it is esteemed, and for no better by the reporter himself [Nauclerus], though superstitious) was devised; Namely, that at such a time as the professors and teachers of Christianity in the Church of Rome, then a true Church, were liberally endowed, a voice forsooth was heard from heaven, saying: Now is poison poured down into the Church, etc. Thus not only as oft as we speak, as one saith, but also as oft as we do anything of note or consequence, we subject ourselves to everyone’s censure, and happy is he that is least tossed upon tongues; for utterly to escape the snatch of them it is impossible. If any man conceit, that this is the lot and portion of the meaner sort only, and that Princes are privileged by their high estate, he is deceived. "As the sword devoureth as well one as the other," as it is in Samuel [2 Sam 11:25], nay as the great Commander charged his soldiers in a certain battle, to strike at no part of the enemy, but at the face; And as the King of Syria commanded his chief Captains to "fight neither with small nor great, save only against the King of Israel:" [1 Kings 22:31] so it is too true, that Envy striketh most spitefully at the fairest, and at the chiefest. David was a worthy Prince, and no man to be compared to him for his first deeds, and yet for as worthy as act as

    Wood or copper mallets are your best friend with tidying up sheet metal
    If you feel like working with sheet metal more, you can get a guillitine to use instead, they're a bit bulky and probably somewhat expensive though

    Top tip Jay. The best way to cut straight lines in up to 16 gauge sheet metal. Is a radial arm saw, with a carbide toothed saw blade.

  • @QuentonFarnes

    Well Jay wish granted, sheet metal worker here. (To help)
    After you get a rough shape just use a pair of hand snips. Double cuts are meant for longer straight cuts. You don't use a car meant for drag racing on a deep country jeep trail. That said I've seen worse work with sheet metal. In the future if you intend to do more custom fab work 3 tools you might want to consider. (Which would be awesome I'd love to see more mods like this.)
    Hand Seamers (I use Wiss WS3N. You can pick up a pair at home depot or amazon for around $30)
    Snips: Both red (Left) and green (Right) Also available at home depot for about $15 each Wiss, midwest or milwaukee. DON'T for the love of god buy the cheap $3 ones if you intend to use them more than once.
    A Vice or Welders clamps. If you are drilling holes in sheet metal the drill will catch at some point they will save your fingers and anything else unfortunate to get caught in a spinning blade of death.

    Just a small idea for marking that pass-through. Unscrew the metal plate. Make another mockup (like the cardboard one) from clear see through foil. Put in the pump - reservoir combo. and see through the foil where to line up the passthrough. Then just transfer foil marks to metal and cut / drill.

    You don't have to do any tilting if you fill using a closed system under vacuum. Have a container with a dip tube for the coolant that connects to the reservoir, a vacuum pump attached at the top, once evacuated open the valve and atmospheric pressure will push the coolant into the system.
    Cars are commonly filled this way too

    Man, I’ve been watching your videos for so long. For some reason my TH-cam wiped all my subscriptions and I didn’t realize I wasn’t subbed to you anymore. But MAN I wish I had the capabilities to build my dream PC. Father of 2, work full time just to get week to week. Wish I had the funds/time to sit down and build the gaming PC I’ve always wanted. Your videos give me inspiration and ideas of what I want to build, your knowledge is unmatched and I trust what you say more than any other PC TH-camr ( no offense to Linus or Kyle) but you’re so humble, you know what you’re doing, you’re funny, and someday I will be able to walk into my office/game room, and sit down at my awesome PC and play my favorite games or do some work, and it’ll all be thanks to you Jay. Thank you for the content and ideas and teaching someone like me, who knows close to nothing about building PC’s or what all the components are and what they’re for, thank you sir. Keep doing what you’re doing.

    Hmmm..."Route the power cables through the tubing."
    Ya know? I've had thoughts about doing that for a long time, and I bet it could look pretty slick. Call it the ultimate cable management lol. The downside to that is that any time you need to move/remove components, you'll likely have to remove or unseat the tubing as well. Still, with that considered it could potentially look badass anyway. I suppose, logically speaking, it wouldn't be any more difficult than removing any of the plumbed components anyway.
    I SAY GO FOR IT JAY! CABLES IN TUBES :D

    I'm currently doing a lot of metal work on an old Chieftec(genuine) mini dragon case. No ssd mounts, needs points for two drives. All kinds of weird holes in it that will be welded closed. Adding one 120 to the roof, working on how I want that to look, keeping the two 92s and 80 though(all noctua replacements).
    Going to be working on a 750D corsair case next. Just a few changes.
    I would of cooked that spray paint though. (depending on what you used) You already mentioned pre drilling. C-clap to wood, DONT USE YOUR DAMN HAND! KNOCK KNOCK OSHA!!!
