@der_Alptraum it's crazy I've heard some ppl say it's harder. As a kid I was able to beat it solo without the 10 man code, whereas I needed the Konami code in contra 😂
This has to be one of the greatest openings of any NES game ever. Rappelling out of a helicopter during a thunderstorm into an alien military base let you know right away that this wasn’t going to be one of those weird NES sequels that was completely different and let you down. This was going to be Contra…and it was going to be fucking super.
Looking back, it is crazy to realize some of the best Famicon/NES games came out AFTER the launch of the PC Engine and Mega Drive in japan. Between 1988 and 1992, there was a incredible amount of excellent releases. The trio Konami/Capcom/Sunsoft made their names around this time frame. Not to mention countless other smaller studios, that created classics that were still getting attention 3 decades after their inicial releases on Nintendo's finest.
Although not as fondly remembered as the original, Super C is an awesome game and a great sequel! I think I actually played Super C before I did the original Contra.
Honestly, I tend to go back to this more than the original as well. The visuals were updated with better detail in a very subtle way which makes the overall presentation a better experience! Also the overhead view stages work better for me than the pseudo-3rd person stages in the original.
One of my favorite titles to play on the NES Mini. The farthest I've ever gotten was Area 4. Never actually beaten this game. Didn't even know about the Archive version until several months ago.
14:06 In the original arcade, THIS was the final boss. But this was where the NES port got some extras to make it all the more exciting, including more stages.
Ah yes, it's Darkwing Duck 2, of course - or that's what bootlegs might lead you to believe. Jokes aside, this is a great game. One of the best run 'n' gun games on the system for sure. I've beaten it multiple times in the past. I find it much easier than the original Contra... but it's just about as fun for me!
Nope, is easier, but mostly for a better codification (jumps, movement and weapons are n't exactly good in the original one, even if is a better game than the original arcade version)
There is not much else to say about this game other than the perspective change stages are now top down view instead. It's more of the same stellar, nonstop run n gun action, and another amazing hard pumping music got with it. If you loved the previous entry a lot, you will also love this equally classic sequel.
My personal Favorite Contra game!! Has a few small, but nice additional Bells & Whistles to an already excellent Solid first entry!! Also, i really prefer the stage themes & OST in this game over the first Contra!! In Retrospect, this probably would have also made a great OVA Anime series!!
they didn't have multiple alpha channels at the time so the player bullets had flicker to make them translucent, it's visible if you view this in slow speed
Classic. My dad and I played this and contra so much. Both this and contra nes are superior to their arcade versions. Better music, controls, and I'd argue graphics. Arcade super c/contra might be better bit wise but it's kinda ugly.
Haven’t played this game in over 20 years but I can assure you with 100% certainty I know every single move, it’s actually the same exact thing you just did on the first level. Not 1 mistake. I remember as a kid being so OCD about this, it was such a challenge upon myself. I can destroy the chopper boss before any of the enemies jump down !
Two tricks for stage 3: before kill the spider tank, put Closest to the right side of the screen, when the next part (earthquake) begins, you stay Go ahead of the holes. The boss is easy, but can be easy when you shoot a little ahead show on this video (the shoot from the center ALWAYS go center). Jump to get more hits
Still a hard Contra game, but in my opinion this is easier than the 1st one, especially when you got a turbo controller, with just 3 lives still can beat the game with enough effort.
Maybe the colonial marines had it all wrong with full armour and short controlled bursts? Shirts off and spread guns seem to work in this alien infestation.
This game is like comfort food to me. I can always come back and have a great time!
true me too it was super amaizng time back in the old days i wanna back in time so bad it was super fun
Perfect sequel. They didn't mess with what worked, and enhanced it at the same time.
Indeed 👌They understood that if the formula is not broken, you don't need to fix it at all.
It's Contra but with orchestra hits. Does life get any better?
This is my favorite Contra game. Wish it was longer and more difficult.
@der_Alptraum it's crazy I've heard some ppl say it's harder. As a kid I was able to beat it solo without the 10 man code, whereas I needed the Konami code in contra 😂
@@thecunninlynguist Yeah, I thought this was one much easier, too.
@@der_Alptraum I've heard people say that this one is much harder than the original Contra.
Yeah, Super C is pretty lenient than Contra.
I like the body horror, alien aesthethics and such disturbing elements in this one. Giger must have been proud.

There's a version on the famicom where you can choose the default weapon, and there's even an OP fireball weapon in there
Can't beat the classics, and super c is one of my faves
My dad used to play the absolute hell outta this game, and years later I managed to beat it myself. Great times, great game.
Best 8-bit Contra by far!
One of my favorite titles to play on the NES Mini. The farthest I've ever gotten was Area 4. Never actually beaten this game.
Didn't even know about the Archive version until several months ago.
The sound test mode was super awesome offering a full medley of its entire soundtrack which I would have playing during homework and household chores.
As a kid I remember being terrified of this boss 5:30 because I was afraid of spiders 🤣🤣
Love that Super C is also on the NES Classic Edition
The spread gun is especially effective in the top down stages.
Eu tenho orgulho de ter zerado esse jogo
O que todo mundo conseguiu fazer na época. Terminar Battletoads era o que te destacava da gurizada na época :-)

I have played Japanese version of super Contra where
You can select area in title screen
You mean there's a stage select? Interesting. :)

The Super C Out of Control Edition is a really nice hack of the japanese version of this game.

the best contra game

90. time. golden time. ❤😢😢
Clasico de Clasicos
By far, the best NES game of it's time ever released.
(at least in my opinion)
Timeless classic game
I could never beat this without a game genie
The boss at 19:15 reminds me of The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino And Hoppy
aka GRAND DAD
I know S is spread but it'll always be Shotgun to me.
😂 My friends and I know it as "spray"!
We used to call it the spray gun. 😂
Back when the name Konami actually meant something.
Some of the sfx in this were featured in the Plug & Play version of Scramble
Don't like it quite as much as the first but it's still a really fun time!
Lo mas impresionante es que con tan pocas gráficas lograron algo increíble...
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And love retro NES games !
My childhood love this game
Was this colour corrected in any way? I recall Super C's colour palette made Bill's trousers look teal instead of blue, or am I remembering wrong?
The same bosses are in other contra games they should keep the bosses unique
