The fact that you're playing the dx version is the main cause for most of your problems. The dreamcast version is infinitely better.

Both Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure are good, sure they aren't perfect, every game studios at the time were just experiencing and started to learn 3d gaming, I think overall I prefer Sonic Adventure, I know it has some glitches and errors but I like the story, the characters and the different type of gameplays it offers. Mario 64 is good to control but as a story is nothing special and after awhile I've find it really boring, it started to get repetitive, you just collect Stars. Like a similiar game which is similar to Mario 64 is Spyro the dragon and I had more fun with Spyro because it feels so much better and Insomniac wasn't shy to try new things in the levels and fun mingames too.
I guess I'm the only person in existence that's never had a hard time with the camera of both games

How does the homing attack stop your momentum? Please explain because in my experience it keeps the momentum going. Also I've never encountered a camera issue or collision issues (besides the snake you are right about that) I swear most youtubers try so hard to make Sonic adventure is unstable on purpose :/

Dude the camera is horrendous, the collision detection is awful have u ever played the game the camera sometimes spazzes out and does not work well in inclosed areas and constantly is automated the collision detection constantly stops ur speed u clip through it or just randomly start running in the opposite direction during scripted sequences

Sonic Adventure wins, i hated the padding in 3D Mario games, instead of that ridiculous amount of stars, i rather have something like Mario 3D World.
Another thing that ruins the pacing of Mario 64 too much is the boot out system for each level, this is also a flaw in Sunshine.
Odyssey removed all of that nonsense but the padding is way worse.

Boy, i dont care about Mario 64 being a masterpiece... Sonic Adventure will be ALWAYS my favorite! regardless of the bugs, glitches and errors it could have. Sonic gives something that Mario cant... EXCITEMENT, because the way of 'story telling' on Sonic, cutscenes, music and more makes Sonic games so EPIC!!! And that's enough for me

At some point you should try Sonic Robo Blast 2. Its a sonic Fangame started around the same time as the same time as Sonic adventure and still being worked on today. It plays closer to the genesis classic (except that they are no loops yet) with a focus on speed, plateforming and exploration. The base game includes pixel and 3D models.
It also uses the doom engine which is cool
I grew with Super Mario 64, i only had the chance to play Sonic Adventure 1 until 2008 and then again in 2012 when i get a Dreamcast. I think Sonic Adventure is amazing, sorta better than Sonic Adventure 2 imo (and i grew with SA2 more), i beat Sonic Adventure 1, 4 years ago, and i only disliked Amy levels, but overall i enjoyed the game.
I'd say sonic adventure aged better.But ,ario 64 was improved on better.

For context, the original Japanese sa on Dreamcast had glitches, which they took out in the international version, but forgot to in DX. Instead, they added more glitches. THEN, in the PC port of DX added EVEN MORE glitches. Then that PC version was ported to 360 and ps3, and that port was ported to steam. So you're playing a port of a port of a shitty port of an enhanced version of an unpatched version. Basically you're playing the worst version of sonic adventure
You're mostly right, except for the Original Japanese version being why the DX ports are so broken.
The Original release in 1998 had minor, inconsequential glitches that were removed in the 1999 release (being able to stand on NPC's heads for example).
But of course given this game's current reputation and the fact the international release was said to have "removed bugs", people misinterpreted this as the 1998 release being as broken as the DX ports.
Then that's segas fault for not patching the game for later releases. If they wanted to release it in a better state they could have but instead made lazy ports

Fantastic video! I personally thought sonic adventure was a more faithful transition to 3d but that Mario 64 is a better game even though I felt it was more jarring. Keep making more of these if you have the time and motivation, you are really good at analysing these things.

I havent played sonic adventure yet but it seems it's a less advanced sonic generation gameplay. Okay now im gonna go Nintendo fanboy mode here so bare with me, with my experience with mario 64 makes me feel and do stuff and a lot of tricks and shortcuts like using a long jump to go to another platform just to get a red coin makes me feel like I can actually complete games and not like I usually am y'know that kind of person who can't complete games but spends his day playing games. The movement is really complex and feels on point which sonic generation just don't make me feel like I'm finally going fast but then the level suddenly changes into a 2d camera angle which makes me loose all my speed and just ruins the game for me which is why I only played like 3 levels and then stopped completely.
I felt like Amy's controls were superior to Mario64 in every way. And then you have everyone else doing stuff Mario could only dream of doing; Tails and Knuckles; and stuff that obviously are still controversial depending on the genre; Big and Gamma. Sonic on the other hand is just up to preference I guess. He shows control/collision issues in this video that I never had an issue with in my 5+ playthroughs of the entire game.

This analysis video was put together really well. Nice job, but there are some parts that I disagree with like comparing Mario and Sonic's gameplay. I feel Sonic's gameplay is structured to fit him, especially with loops. Loops need to be automatic to keep up his momentum or stop the player from making a dangerous mistake, imagine you're playing a Sonic game and you have no rings, and there's lava. The loops would save you. Or a different scenario, you're going through a loop, but you decide to stop holding the control forward. Sonic's momentum just stops and that can slow down the pacing of the game. Mario's control is just flat out terrible compared to Sonic's. His jumps feel clunky and awkward and like you said his wall jump is just bad. The camera wasn't really an issue for me when I played Adventure. I'm glad you can use L and R to rotate the camera. Most 3d games use L or ZL to have the camera go behind the player, but 64 doesn't, it has a shit camera with already bad controls, but that's just my honest opinion
as someone who generally likes mario more than sonic I can say with confidence that I think that sonic adventure was a better game than super mario 64
@@mikumika3819 I definitely agree. I do like 64 and I do think it's a good game, but time was not good to this game and the post game is lacking. I will say Adventure didn't really age well either, but it definitely aged better than 64. Sonic Adventure has a ton of replayability because you go to stages that you already beat and you can try and beat your time or do the mission in the stages. Also, I know people say Sonic Adventure DX is a glitchy port, but I feel like you have to go out of your to really find these glitches like the one in Emerald Coast which I didn't know existed. In 64 you can beat the game without really trying and I know it's a fun game breaking glitch, but where's the fun in that?

@@mikumika3819 yeah, 64 and Sunshine was definitely bad at replayability because of the 100 coin missions are just a nightmare, you can end up picking the wrong mission that doesn't have enough coins in it and would have to start over. It's the same issue with Sunshine, but worse because you have to collect the yellow coins plus the Shine sprite likes to move. The soundtrack is definitely better in Adventure as well. 64 has a good soundtrack, but a lot of songs repeat themselves. Bob omb battlefield is reused the most in the beginning of the game
