I know some people don’t like the werehog stages, but if you think about it, unleashed is probably one of the most finished sonic games since the classic games. Which is one of the reasons why I love this game.
Yea man the werehog levels are actually really well designed. Play a mod that gives you the option to shut off the music and it gets rid of 90% of the problems for me with the werehog
The map screen in SA2 is still pretty cool. I always liked looking at all the little details like the grind rails underneath the Ark or that island in the bottom left that left me baffled for years until I unlocked green hill.
The instant Pioneer 2 music to start the video hit me like a brick, I love PSO so much Personally, 3D hub worlds in Sonic have been kinda annoying in my experience, when I play Sonic games I've tended to mostly be in for the core gameplay and getting lost in the hub worlds when looking for the next objective would be obtrusive. But I have gained appreciation for their immersion, attention to detail and beauty, especially with age. I imagine that in a game with proper map markers or objective reminders like what Frontiers had, hub worlds could be easier to navigate while preserving their charm
I've always loved the Unleashed hub worlds the most because it has the most and gives the most life to the game out of all the other hub worlds. Adventures hub worlds are still amazing too and 06's are alright in my opinion. They felt too big and had the least amount of life even though Adventure came before it and Unleashed came out 2 years later. I consider Frontiers' Starfall Islands as hub worlds too even though it's the main part of the game but the vibe you get of exploring and taking in scenary feels very similar to Adventure or Unleashed. Sometimes I would just look for high points of the maps just to sit on top and slowly pan the camera around while listening to the music, it felt very very special.
Amazing thumbnail. Also if you are curious, my favourite hub world in any game is Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine (and Starship Mario from Super Mario Galaxy 2 is my second favourite) and for my favourite hub world in a Sonic game it's probably Sonic Generations because of the cool stuff you can do in them (I haven't played Adventure, 06 or Unleashed).
Hub Worlds are really fun when they can add the the game and story in meaningful ways. I know a bunch of people say that SA2 should have hub worlds and is worse for not having them, but for SA2’s all-around-the-world adventure and go-go-go type story, it doesn’t work that easily. Hub worlds are so much fun when you have free time to explore in every sonic games from Sonic Adventure 1&2, Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Frontiers. ✨
In spite of everything do I think you still under sold the Hub's of SA1. The hub worlds level entrances are also lay out that they perfectly flow into the stages making these wacky action stages really feel like they are part of the same world as the hub worlds (especially the 2 entrances to Speed Highway). The NPC's have updated dialogue for basically everything with quite a few stories that happen with in them during the story like the Girl that is in love with the Burger sales man, the gambling addicted mother or the dude that dates 2 different girls at ones. And one detail I love since I learned it you can literally see Angle Island as a giant stone that doesn't fit in at all by looking at it from Tails workshop. One issue I have with Unleashed hubs is actually how the area with NPC's and the one with platforming segments is pretty rigidly separated making it all feel even more disjointed than the teleport level entrances already did. Also if Battle from the GBA and Generations White Void gets to be here why no love for Advance 3's hub worlds?
Sonic unleashed's are objectively the best ones. The towns people, food and the locations themselves actually represent the countries really well beyond just sterotypes. If you talk to the npc's it actually goes deeper talking about the struggles of people in their day to day life and positives to living in each country.
Man I loved early Saturn 3D Sonic Model and world. Huge fan of what Traveller’s Tales did for Sonic R and Sonic 3D both Genesis and Saturn. I felt if they had been able to get a 3D Sonic game for the Saturn it would have been the perfect mix of 3D with all the classic 2D Sonic games colors/Aesthetics. I believe a true Sonic Saturn game would have been what the fans wanted and Sega has seem to never recover Sonic’s identity in every major game following.
Awesome Deep Dive into all of the Sonic Hub Worlds, especially Sonic Jam’s Sonic World, it’s a shame not many Sonic Fans can experience that one since it’s exclusively on Sega Saturn but with that aside, Station Square, Mystic Ruins and Egg Carrier are my absolute favorite hub worlds, I won’t hide my bias since SA1 was one of my first Sonic Games, the Atmosphere, Music and City Folk really make them all very memorable, I’m a New Yorker and whenever I’m in Downtown Manhattan or riding the Trains, I always have the Station Square Music playing in my head!🗽🌃
I feel like the ideal hub world(for me at least) would be big like The ones in 06 and having that final fantasy type art style, but still have the colors and buildings and places like in Station Square instead of just random places. They’re filled to the brim with a bunch of cool wacky stuff and having cultural appropriation like an unleashed. Like imagine soleanna with better colors like in adventure and the buildings, actually being interesting like adventure with some of the culture from Italy, and totally original ones for being Soleanna like some eagle stuff in the original not only will it be pretty with cool places like an adventure in culture from the real Italy and new culture but it will be unique because it’s kind of based on final fantasy in the music is gonna make me explode of how good it is. I think that’s the ideal hub world. Also, when I say based on Final Fantasy, I mean totally different locations based on a real life place but it’s totally made up in your mind and it looks like it would be something in Final Fantasy.
When it comes down to the Hub World of Soleanna, I always associate each one with one of the 3 main Hedghogs. Castle Town for Sonic, New City for Shadow, & the Forest for Silver. Also whenever I play this game, I love to just mess around with Sonic's many gems, specifically the white & purple ones, trying to get myself to wherever I want. Though did anyone else want to reach Elise's castle from the castle town?
Sonic Unleashed is easily my favourite Sonic game, I got it because of Cobanermani456 and spent most of my time in the hub worlds trying to pick up as much speed as possible (I'm pretty sure there was a glitch where you could kinda boost in the hub worlds)
Sonic World, when fused with Sonic R, COULD have been Sonic's first true 3D game. You had a hub world, missions, and stages. Though this would be a smokescreen to a larger problem (Sonic X-Treme's inevitable demise).
I remember playing SA2 for the first time and being really pissed off that there wasn't a hub world. I mean, the level select menu exists, but it just isn't the same.
In my opinion If Sonic R ever gets a remake I would love to see an expanded verson of the Sonic Jam's Sonic world to serve as a hub world betwen races Let's say you can join an other race or you can go around and complete time trials, and learn about the world you're racing in It would be cool if every area would be featured in the hub world With the original verson of Sonic world would serve for a segment of Resort Island's area in the big hub world It would be great

Adventure 2 DOESN'NT have a world hub
Fun fact: Central City is the name of the city the Flash is from, the same name for 2 cities with multiple speedsters.
13:44 "Hello Sonic, I am way too much animated"
My favourite hub world are from sonic unleashed. And the art from the thumbhail is FIRE 🔥 Bro
Advance 3 😊 I love the hub world
Station square, Mystic ruins and all of the sonic frontier hub worlds
And now we have Sonic Superstars Hub world, which is very inspired on Sonic Generations Hub World
Always wanted a video on this topic
That green and red poster you mentioned in the burger shop is actually a weird, possibly scrapped, spider character!
Way past cool! And I did leave a fat like 👍🏾
The entirety of Frontiers can be seen as a hub world. A playground.
5:46 Those are ticket booths?! I thought they were just for decoration!!!
I’ve missed hub worlds since SA2. It was so fun to fool around in SA1 to find things or break the game.
respect for using the OST for Pioneer 2 ✨️✨️✨️
Sonic superstars will have a hubworld!
Sonic unleashed's are objectively the best ones. The towns people, food and the locations themselves actually represent the countries really well beyond just sterotypes. If you talk to the npc's it actually goes deeper talking about the struggles of people in their day to day life and positives to living in each country.
I went to Greece in summer 2021 and the apotos segment of this video reminded me of the fun I had there.
I always thought Sonic unleashed was a weird dream I had once when I was little
Man I loved early Saturn 3D Sonic Model and world.
The hub worlds in sonic games are so good that frontiers is just one giant hub world
Fr with that face no one is taking you seriesly😂😂😂
wasn't expecting the eggmanland hub world to not be in the video.
oh yes, France's famous clocktower
Awesome Deep Dive into all of the Sonic Hub Worlds, especially Sonic Jam’s Sonic World, it’s a shame not many Sonic Fans can experience that one since it’s exclusively on Sega Saturn but with that aside,
Station Square, Mystic Ruins and Egg Carrier are my absolute favorite hub worlds, I won’t hide my bias since SA1 was one of my first Sonic Games, the Atmosphere, Music and City Folk really make them all very memorable, I’m a New Yorker and whenever I’m in Downtown Manhattan or riding the Trains, I always have the Station Square Music playing in my head!🗽🌃
5:40 oh hey it's that cut sonic character
The America roast was crazy lmao
You got that PatMac energy and I like it.
What I learned today: I missed out not getting Sonic Unleased.
The thumbnail is really good
11:49 I’m never gonna forgive you for leaving your mouse on the screen.
Man, Unleashed is so beatiful. Hub Worlds are many of the reasons. No joke, that game makes me wanna travel.
24:07 holy shit that was so unwarranted especially for a sonic hub world video
That's what I was saying lmao
24:08 that came out of nowhere but I died laughing
Sonic Unleashed is easily my favourite Sonic game, I got it because of Cobanermani456 and spent most of my time in the hub worlds trying to pick up as much speed as possible (I'm pretty sure there was a glitch where you could kinda boost in the hub worlds)
the best is back 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Just discovered Jam myself and I was super impressed with the hub world
Sonic World, when fused with Sonic R, COULD have been Sonic's first true 3D game. You had a hub world, missions, and stages. Though this would be a smokescreen to a larger problem (Sonic X-Treme's inevitable demise).
What do you mean?
After seeing frontier sure the hub worlds can make an comeback in sonic games.
Just in time for me to watch this while I eat lunch lets go.
If I recall I believe Sonic Superstars is going to have a hub world kinda like Sonic Generations according to Game Informer who've played 6 stages.
I remember playing SA2 for the first time and being really pissed off that there wasn't a hub world. I mean, the level select menu exists, but it just isn't the same.
Hot take: I really enjoy 06's Hub worlds
5:41 I dunno if you know about this but apparently that poster is an early concept for a spider character that never made it far.
Great video CHAO GARDEN IS THE BEST
when chaomix uploads you know its boutta be a W day
A HUB World would've helped the 2010s games have a certain special touch, they lost that life that made the games feel good.
In my opinion
If Sonic R ever gets a remake
I would love to see an expanded verson of the Sonic Jam's Sonic world to serve as a hub world betwen races
Let's say you can join an other race or you can go around and complete time trials, and learn about the world you're racing in
It would be cool if every area would be featured in the hub world
With the original verson of Sonic world would serve for a segment of Resort Island's area in the big hub world
It would be great
