lets be honest being rejected could have been a blessing in disguise, not having to crunch to get a working engine and now with extra time to it right and not rushed is going to be a relief
It all comes down to the rollout after the show closes on Friday. Whatever is functional enough to be in that, I can’t be mad at. Even if it’s some obnoxious $300k+ brodozer with a Bluetooth front driveshaft. If it rolls down the street, you deserve to be there.
I think social media is a big part of the reason, people want to be able to say they're the first to put 'xyz' motor in something and this sense of being outdone or beaten to the punch by someone online means they rush this sort of stuff to shows so they can try and be the first with the idea or the most relevant at that point in time.
Realistically, I think they should move Sema either to be every two years or honestly bro four years give people time to build that way they come with actual finish builds and you know you got something to look at when you paid $200 just to get in the dang show to look at builds you know

I would personally hit a middle ground where it's either 95% complete and you're just missing some minor stuff but it's basically done Or Something like Tavarish's P1 that had no engine iirc and was clearly just to show people what the ongoing project looked at that time. Idk how SEMA is but maybe an area dedicated to ongoing project could be nice
The Miata is crazy cuz that thing will never run but I’m not gonna diss someone for showing off their dope projects that actually have a very good chance of running. Project cars are still cool asl in my opinion and can spark up a conversation or blow someone’s mind the same way a finished car can
I 100% agree with you they should not bring unfinished cars to a show least of all that show . What’s crazy is that guy with the Miata he probably just wanted to get noticed for anything even if it’s stupid

@@danilanope1635 It's called a "velocity stack" intake. I understand that some people might want/need to trailer their creations to Sema, but Sema needs to make a new rule that ALL vehicles shown at Sema MUST be started and driven around the parking lot after arriving, or they cannot be displayed at Sema!
I didn't expect to see a video like this. They didn't let Rob Dahm bring the 12 rotor standalone engine because it wasn't going to be in a car. I don't know about you, but I'd rather see a one-of-a-kind engine that runs than a miata with an engine that won't.
I would be embarrassed if my car was unfinished at sema. I did a whole build on one of my cars and finished it recently. I was embarrassed to drive it without the emblems on/holes in the hood since they didn’t come in yet, but everything else was done. 🤣
Couldn't agree more. So sick of hearing "ohh it was such a push or a struggle to make the deadline this year" and it's still not done! Yeah, well that's on you buddy, you know when the show is on, start your build earlier and learn some basic time management skills and get it done instead of bringing a half baked lemon of a car and complain that it was hard to get to this point and expect some kind of respect. So many big car shows across the world wouldn't accept this stuff, so why is the so called pinnacle of car shows letting it slide? Strange....sema is turning into a bit of a joke for me now.
The same thing happened last year or two with the AMG V12 swapped RX-7. The car was just shown with a V12 in the engine bay and nothing more. It didn't run or anything. And there was no update made on the project if it ran or not.
"To show what it can be?" Yes, that's exactly the point. SEMA is one big advertisement, not just a car show. These cars exist as showpieces for influencers to fawn over and fool the lowest common denominator. They are built for cheap in a rush because you're not actually supposed to linger over them, and most people will not look closely enough to care. Reputable car enthusiasts at the show are only there to lend the show credibility by being there, they can dunk on every car present and it still gives the show and every company advertising through it publicity. They're advertising a concept, and the execution is implied rather than delivered, but if it captures your imagination anyway then the show was a success regardless of authenticity. Just as concept cars from OEMs usually don't actually work and are just rolling sculptures, these nonfunctional modified cars are also just concept cars where functionality is optional.
My best guess is that since SEMA is a trade-only show, they are probably all hoping that someone that can help them finish will see it. After all nobody likes electrical/plumbing
I was kinda heartbroken when I found out the Miata wasn’t really a Lamborghini swap but just the intake like who cares about the intake if it’s not the whole engine…
SEMA is a industry-only show for manufacturers and vendors to market their products to wholesale buyers. Why do they let people bring in non-running unfinished cars that don't even showcase specific products?

That Miata on the other hand is entirely based around a fake/incomplete swap. Ultimately tho, SEMA really does need to put more effort into quality control
We brought EIGHT
ALL DROVE IN👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Finally u made a video on this😂😂
SEMA is NOT a car show. its an automotive specialty equipment show.
I disagree, they only accept cars in the show, meaning it's a car show... They won't let you bring motors noatter how insane they're, they must be in a car.
@@mikehunt8375Most of these “show cars” never ran. Sema also have some companies that do vehicle stuff in the space. Like Vazoline, for an example.
These cars aren't showing off anything in that regard
Hasn't been that for a while now. It's just a mediocre car show for half assed builds, with a few badass builds sprinkled in.
My proof? They didn't allow Rob Dahm's 12 rotor in because "it wasn't in a car".
Huh, specialty equipment... Like Bluetooth car parts?
Sema should make a rule to atleast have the cars running or something smh
I would love to see someone build a MK 4 Supra with a Lexus LFA V 10 motor in it, I think it would be great, take care Drew.
And they won't let people like rob dahm with his 12 rotor tri turbo engine project in...
Sema is such a fkn joke
How come they didn’t?
Wait actually? Not even for the Garrett stand?
@@Sensei_S197 it had to be in a car they couldn't let the engine on the stand in and yeah not even Garrett could do anything about it
And you know what's sad?
Rob was about to make the motor ready for startup before sema if they let em in (tbh im not sure abt that especially when how long it took to ready it up but ofc it wasn't the first time for the team to work and ready up something on a tight schedule) but ofc sema perfers car without a running engine rather then a running engine without a car
But it doesn't matter now at least the engine is almost done now last vid they completed the intake manifold and added starters and they cranked the engine for the first time all it's left is fuel, harnesses and all the good stuff other then that the major stuff are pretty much done
@@Drift_Potato402 rob made a short video about it addressing it
Not even Garrett could do anything to help so he was there but with nothing basically
lets be honest being rejected could have been a blessing in disguise, not having to crunch to get a working engine and now with extra time to it right and not rushed is going to be a relief
😭 bruh I remember last year with the lifted truck with loose bolts now we got this
God damn people, just wait till the next year, to get your SEMA build fully complete and running.
Honestly, SEMA is a joke now. Nuff said
It all comes down to the rollout after the show closes on Friday.
Realistically, I think they should move Sema either to be every two years or honestly bro four years give people time to build that way they come with actual finish builds and you know you got something to look at when you paid $200 just to get in the dang show to look at builds you know
Some of its proof of concept, not everything is meant to be driving yet, im sure it’ll be running at somepoint
If Drew was really a true car guy, he would know Bluetooth engines and turbos don’t exist. These cars at SEMA are using NFC technology!
Originally I wasn’t planning on going to SEMA but my boss got me last minute passes to go and I so stocked to see this and when I got close up to it and peeked inside I was shook. I was let down that I was fooled😭
Everything is just slapped together like a MacDonalds burger 😂😂😂
One of my biggest pet peeves for sema is the show trucks with blue tooth drive shafts
reminds me of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in Detroit. The "winner" had to be pushed to the champion photo stand (that giant HW card that everyone takes photos with their cars in front of)
I’m rooting for Miata guy. Hope he gets it hooked up. SEMA will always bring in cars that don’t run and aren’t finished hooking up. What’s crazy is no one wants to speak on the dropshippers that are in SEMA now. Aliexpress has fully funded SEMA shops but yall ain’t ready for that 😂
Yeah SEMA has become a shitshow since they’ve allowed people with unfinished project vehicles to attend.
I'm going to start a go fund me to make an actual Lamborghini TT swapped miata
I would personally hit a middle ground where it's either 95% complete and you're just missing some minor stuff but it's basically done
Or
Something like Tavarish's P1 that had no engine iirc and was clearly just to show people what the ongoing project looked at that time. Idk how SEMA is but maybe an area dedicated to ongoing project could be nice
Hey drew you should do a video reacting to Aussie cars!
The Miata is crazy cuz that thing will never run but I’m not gonna diss someone for showing off their dope projects that actually have a very good chance of running. Project cars are still cool asl in my opinion and can spark up a conversation or blow someone’s mind the same way a finished car can
I’m looking at that intercooler in the thumbnail and immediately thought nope 😂
Didn't Tavarish bring his non-running P1 to sema
absolutely not the same..
@PROFESSOR_TV bye the comments of most people here, it is
@@gymusen clearly none of them have watch tavarish's video while he was at sema lmao
I 100% agree with you they should not bring unfinished cars to a show least of all that show . What’s crazy is that guy with the Miata he probably just wanted to get noticed for anything even if it’s stupid
STOP IT!!! That "Lamborghini" Miata's owner NEVER SAID IT WAS A LAMBORGHINI SWAP!! He was open about it being an LS and non-running. The media called it a Lamborghini swap without context, and now the owner is being hated on.
Why did he put lambo intake?
@@danilanope1635 It's called a "velocity stack" intake. It's done primarily for aesthetic reasons, aiming to achieve a visually aggressive look, but it can also provide a slight performance benefit at very high RPMs due to the design that helps improve air flow at high intake velocities, though this gain is usually minimal compared to other intake modifications.
@ryannewswanger7997 pretty cool, but guy in the video said "this wouldn't run" so could it run?
@@danilanope1635 if done right, it will run. In it's current mocked up state it won't.
so the sema scene is like modern gaming, half finished showing & 4 years of "dlc" to get a complete item 😂
There was some cool displays of products... Like the fox body bolt in chassis. The display was to showcase a product for a particular car and that was acceptable... However I agree bringing junk is not showcasing your abilities or the standard that any successful vendor is going to desire to have their name on. I was asked to help with a SEMA build this year and I declined because the intention was to bring an incomplete car possibly to showcase some products??? And let's just say that the grinder and paint, made them the welder they ain't...
I seen that miata on Shmee's video. I screenshot it and sent it to me and the boys group chat because I was absolutely excited to see it. I really thought somebody actually did it. So upset to find out it isn't real.
I understand that some people might want/need to trailer their creations to Sema, but Sema needs to make a new rule that ALL vehicles shown at Sema MUST be started and driven around the parking lot after arriving, or they cannot be displayed at Sema!
Reminds me of a clown I knew in England who used a dremel to "port and polish" a head and claimed it doubled the power.. but refused to get it dyno'd
So many thotbots.
SEMA is slipping bad af😮
Drew off topic but you should try doing built off-road toys for trails or mud I think it would be a cool twist maybe another fallowing for you
Viper swapped S2000 is probably the coolest swap I’ve seen at a show, but it actually ran!
10:26 its an actual racing technique. The turbos push so much air that even without the pipes hooked up it still makes extreme boost. 🤓
I didn't expect to see a video like this. They didn't let Rob Dahm bring the 12 rotor standalone engine because it wasn't going to be in a car. I don't know about you, but I'd rather see a one-of-a-kind engine that runs than a miata with an engine that won't.
ROB been doing this for YEARS now !!!!!!
I would be embarrassed if my car was unfinished at sema. I did a whole build on one of my cars and finished it recently. I was embarrassed to drive it without the emblems on/holes in the hood since they didn’t come in yet, but everything else was done. 🤣
Some turbocharged dipsticks
Plutonium Blinker Fluid
And some twin scroll alternators.
*This is probably as a result of those SEMA mall crawlers with BT differentials, that have been allowed year after year.*
3:00 hey thats what red RTV is for, it would run but they just didn't have the time to do it 😂
I'm fine with a non running car at SEMA as long as its showcasing something like Custom metalwork, Suspension or something that showcases something.
The fact SEMA wouldn’t let Rob Dahm bring his running 12 rotor motor because it wasn’t in a car, but half the cars there don’t run is crazy to me
Couldn't agree more.
Interesting video, hopefully there is a biggest wins part 2
Miata guy can make a comeback if he brings it back running next year.
The same thing happened last year or two with the AMG V12 swapped RX-7.
The car was just shown with a V12 in the engine bay and nothing more. It didn't run or anything. And there was no update made on the project if it ran or not.
"To show what it can be?"
Yes, that's exactly the point. Just as concept cars from OEMs usually don't actually work and are just rolling sculptures, these nonfunctional modified cars are also just concept cars where functionality is optional.
the range rover is good tho, they are showing the fab work more than anything and that sells itself with that work.
respect to rob dahm
My best guess is that since SEMA is a trade-only show, they are probably all hoping that someone that can help them finish will see it. After all nobody likes electrical/plumbing
somebody already did a Lambo swap in a Volvo and made it work this Miata is Child's play
I was kinda heartbroken when I found out the Miata wasn’t really a Lamborghini swap but just the intake like who cares about the intake if it’s not the whole engine…
Sema is also about concepts, like what Rob Dahm did with this 4Rotor RX7, back in the day.
Fake news for views I expected better owner never claimed what your saying he did
i been waiting on this video 😭
Drew your Supra in the back is falling
I dig the 1320 hoodie, @drewpeacock. I knew the founder Kyle in my late teens and early twenties in the street racing scene here in Omaha, Nebraska.
Sema should open a designated section for these type of cars that are a show and no go
7:06 from what I've heard bailing on sema means you can no longer bring in another vehicle for show.
Sema builds have always been slapped together enough to look pretty at 30 feet
Bro it's been cars running on hopes and dreams in sema. They are like movie cars. A lot of them are just rollers.
I feel like a requirement of SEMA is for a car to be fully operational (unless it’s like a historic car where it’s more special crashed than fixed)
SEMA is a industry-only show for manufacturers and vendors to market their products to wholesale buyers. Why do they let people bring in non-running unfinished cars that don't even showcase specific products?
The worst part is they wouldn’t let rob dahm show and start his insane 12 rotor engine
I was waiting for drew to get on that Miata
