  • An important and vital upgrade to the Mk3 Ford Focus 1ltr EcoBoost.
    These early ecoboost engines were recalled due to a coolant pipe bursting near the turbo, but the problem may persist even after the recall. The pipes cost around £50 so for peace of mind I swapped them for the safer Mk3.5 pipes.

    It is also extremely important to replace the wet belts (internal rubber timing and pump belts) early at least 80,000 miles. On my car the belts started breaking up 90,000 miles and blocked the oil feed in the sump and trashed the engine. It is not a cheap job either.

    Good to see some actual sensible reporting on the Ecoboost and mods rather than the usual ill informed Pub Bore you hear on the internet going on about how terrible this engine is. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the video!

      Thank you, I have been putting some miles on this car, 2 long road trips in Europe including long stints on the autobahns cruising for miles at way over 100mph with 4 of us and luggage. Very surprised how capable it is and great mpg too.

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi sounds like one of the sensors isn’t connected properly, I assume water and oil levels are ok. Otherwise get a obd scanner to check what’s wrong. Also if the engine light is flashing that could be serious.

    Be careful of those metal bend coolant pipes coming out the turbo. They can actually rust pretty bad

    Great video ,i have a 2013 model and ford say this later kit wont fit ,? All the same arnr they ?

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As far as I am aware, they are the same. From their point of view the kits are for the later models so they would say that. I assume you have the same items and locations as mine on the video?

    Hi, I was wondering what the grey clip that is initially connected to the tank on the top right (rubber hose) is called and if you knew where I could potentially find it. Thanks!

      @MotoringEvents  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, sorry I don’t, a dealer could help. Also you could just use a jubilee clip just make sure it’s on tight and there are no leaks. Also the ford owners forums we’ll be able to help.

    So is the pipe that's fitted at the start of the video the original pipe, or one that ford have already upgraded before you bought the car.
    I have noted the part numbers for the two new pipes you have fitted. What facelift are these pipes from.
    And many thanks for your very useful video 👍

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it is the pipe that Ford upgrade for the recall.

  • @philtucker1224

    Hi, I may have missed it but you may not have explained where all the original coolant had gone prior to fitting the new pipes. Had one of them already perished? 🤔

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried a few methods of swapping the pipes so I lost about a third of the coolant plus I siphoned some out of the tank. I think if you use the final method I put in the video you should lose much at all.

    Hi mate, how could you tell if it's too late to change pipes i.e. the damage has been done? Would that need to strip the engine to see if cylinders have cracked or any other damange? Thanks a lot

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi probably if it was just leaking and you were topping it up, there would be no damage.if the water was really low the engine would overheat which at least would cause wear but if the block cracked you would probably see steam coming out of the exhaust or the engine oil would look milky.

    Can you tell me if the braided thin pipe coming of the junction is also covered by the 2015 recall

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it was covered by the recall but still has the junction whereas the ones in the video are from later cars and don't have the junction at all. The new pipes are completely different and robust.

      @@MotoringEvents Thanks for replying. Do you know if I take my car to Ford with this degas problem, Will ford replace the old design degas pipe setup for the new facelift degas pipe set as show in your video or will they only replace the effective pipe/pipes for the exact same problem pipe/pipes, regards

    Hello mate, I have the same car except its 2 years older (the 2012 ecoboost 1.0L). I am also looking to replace these pipes but I have a question: On the ebay links for the parts that you provided, one of them says it isn't compatible for this model. Is that just because it was intended for the new models? The pipes should still fit right?

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, that is my understanding yes, does your car look the same as mine as far as where the pipes fit?

    I have the mk 3.5 facelifted version and I am experiencing a los of coolant especially after a long drive the car has the upgraded pipes, no excess smoke or anything to indicate a blown head gasket. Any advice? Or someone who had the same problem? It only happens after a long trip and does not happen on shorter trips.

    • @MotoringEvents

      It’s quite common that the coolant tank cracks underneath, are there signs of coolant around the tank.

    I’ve noticed your focus makes that rattling noise. I’ve also got the 1.0 2013 model and mine makes the same rattling/knocking noise from the engine bay. Is that normal? Was there an issue with yours… did you sort it out in the end.

    • @MotoringEvents

    Ford won't cover the cost of replacing the updated pipes, but they will however pay for an entire new engine instead when it blows. Baffling...

      Really annoying for something so easy to replace.

  • @richat1691

    2015 models dont have this issue?

    • @MotoringEvents
      @MotoringEvents  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The new hoses are from the facelift mk3 which in think started 2014/2015 so yours could be either, the front end looks quite different, if you are unsure Google image of the front. Mine just died. I’m going to do a video on it but watch out for the timing belt and oil pump belt which are inside the engine and cause big problems after 80-90000 miles. It’s quite expensive to do to.
