    Thanks so much for this video. I had exactly the same fault (loss of coolant) with exactly the same crack in the same place on the underside of the bottle (test by putting a cloth under the bottle and it got wet overnight). Unfortunately I also had a leaking coolant bottle overflow hose which was very annoying. Poor quality parts from Ford - no doubt they saved 10 cents in the car manufacture but left a legacy of short life parts on the car. Brilliant video!

      @idpfilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're welcome! John
      You are like us we cant believe how parts from Ford are manufactured - take the coolant bottle purchased from Ford direct at only £12, basically says it all. One of our FFRR Range Rover Coolant bottles cost £186, think that says it all.
      But good to hear you have your problem sorted.
      best wishes Fella

    Thank you very much mate... I had already booked my vehicle in for an inspection after the coolant running out... I did refill it but after a 7 mile drive it was empty again... I traced all the pipes and even on the resivior itself along with the cap but I couldn't find any signs of a leak... after watching this video I took the expansion tank off and to my surprise there was a very small crack! No more than 1cm long... I bought a new tank for £22 from ford and fitted it in under 10 minutes thanks to your tutorial... in total I saved £150 for the inspection + labour... legend

      Yes. That's the coolant that has just returned from the cycle. If it wasn't coming in from that pipe, you would be in a world of mess. 👍

    Tip.A little bit of lubricant on the prongs such as engine oil or even cooking oil, helps the tank to fit on easier.

      At least you have caught it in time - if you can flush out all the old coolent while you are doing it - flush out with cold water - loads of water to ensure all the old coolent is gone ( old coolent can go corrosive to plastic pipes and cyclender head gaskets - eats into them !
      Good quality coolent is recommeded - when filling up ensure heater matrix is on HIGH with fan turned up and run the engine until all air is purged from system - use the bleed valves located on the highest points of the engine block.
      GOOD LUCK we wish you well

    It seems as the plastic hits the metal part on the right and beneath. Probably due to vibrations. Maybe to put some sponge in the place to protect the plastic?

    Yeah have small slow leak which i think I've found where . A lil wet spot at that thin line coming from reservoir tank . Mine is different that it doesn't have the thicker second line like yours . Just thin one . It has hole but has a plug no line .. 2016 Focus SE . Yeah American 2.0L . So replace what exactly ? Both tank and line ? And just below looks like water stained on motor mount .

    My 2012 Focus (USA) has a leak in the original coolant reservoir. It made it almost 12 years before it started leaking. We get tempertures down to -40 F here in NE Ohio, and as high as 100 F. I would be surprised if yours lasted less. I don't know why that would be. Mine cracked in the exact same spot.

      Totally drained the cooling system completely - then filled with 100% pre mixed coolant.

    Great video. You need to replace the degas pipes with the mk3.5 version otherwise the expansion tank leak will be the least of your worries. Anyone who has that T piece should change the pipes to remove it.

    please give me an advice i have focus ecoboost 2012 1.0 petrol when i start the engine is all good but since is getting hot i hear a helicopter sound inside the car and this only when im not accelerating and is very loud ..

    • @idpfilm
      @idpfilm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We assume this is in hot weather - it will be the electronic engine fan which will start up in hot weather / heavy traffic when stationery. We hope you have checked your collent bottle ( When its COLD & on FLAT ground ) - its must be between the Max & Lower markings on the bottle.
      Your radiator fan will kick in at about 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
      If you notice your vehicle is overheating or at the very least running hotter than it normally does, listen for the fan to see if you can hear it.
      Symptoms of a Bad Engine Radiator Fan are:
      No Whirring Noise from the Engine Bay. The radiator fan makes a noticeable sound when it operates.
      Rising Temperature Gauge. When the radiator fan stops working, the coolant does not cool down.
      Coolant Evaporates.
      The Radiator Fan Relay.
      The Radiator Fan Motor.
      The Radiator Fan Resistor.
      Symptoms of a faulty cooling fan switch?
      Several symptoms may point to a bad or failing thermo coolant fan switch.
      Engine overheating. Engines generate an enormous amount of heat and as a result are subjected to very large temperature swings if this switch does not operate effectively.
      Check Engine Light comes on.
      Broken or shorter signal wire.
      .

    Going to give this a crack myself, the tank has been leaking loads, I bought the car 2nd hand at 92k miles so I bet there is the problem of the tank being cracked. I just saw part two of your video and am wondering if I may have the same problem with the heaters as well. Quick question - why didn't you just use your old cap why did you buy a new one? Will let you know how I get on.

    • @idpfilm
      @idpfilm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fella - Please to hear you might have a go yourself - on a scale of 1 to 10 it comes in at 2
      Remember to purge all air from system after you change the bottle over - you will tell if you get someone to hold the revs at 2,000 RPM for 21 minutes when shes warm and watch for the return feed back into the top of the coolant bottle for a steady stream of used coolant.
      Also remember when she's stone cold the coolant level must be at the max mark. - ALL cars when they at AT RUNNING Normal temperature will show a coolant level of approx 8 to 10mm above max mark, this is normal.
      They should never be at the min mark when cold.
      You ask why put a new Coolant top on - simple, New Bottle New Cap ! - that way the whole system you have just put in will last another 5 years + ( No point in doing half a job - when summer comes the cap failed becouse it was old.
      When you take out the old bottle - look at the hair line cracks around base and sides - Plastic Bottles hate the heat ( RED HOT then STONE COLD - Over and Over again )
      Good luck we wish you sucesss
      .

    Where is the radiator where you pour water in or is it just the reservoir

    • @idpfilm
      @idpfilm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just fil the Reservoiur up and KEP the Heater Maxtrix ON FULL HEAT when engine running - ensure you see HOT Coolent filling the plastic bottle and put hand onto this pipe to feel its hot water from the engine.
      You will see the small hose at the hot - this is the return from the engine block - the engine must reach operating temp in order to open the thermostat.
      Note the next day when the engines stone cold CHECK the fluid level - it must be at the MAX mark when stone cold
      just ceck you have no air pockets when initllay running the engine up
