    TH-cam recommending this video based on Bob Ross' videos was on point...
    Bill was Bob's teacher...they've made me fall in love with painting without even ever picking up a brush...

      Yeah, I read that when Bob got his show, there was some friction. I think Bill started this concept....of oiling out his canvas with his brand of linseed oil and white call Magic White. He sold it with his Name on it....along with brushes and paints. Good business really. When Bob got a show he used his Magic White. After a few episodes, he had to change it to Liquid White...probably for HIS OWN product line. I never heard Bob credit Bill. Interesting.

    I love and miss Bill. Such great memories of him on PBS. A true organic master painter. He also had a fascinating, if not extremely adverse life. Bill was born in East Prussia (in what is now Poland). His family fled to Berlin during World War I. Apprenticed as a carriage maker, Bill was drafted into the Wehrmacht during World War II. Captured by Allied troops, he painted portraits of Allied officers' wives. After World War II, Bill became a refugee, and professional painter, pioneering the modern quick version of the wet-on-wet technique, and moved to North America. The rest is history. I could see Anthony Hopkins (a very competent painter) portraying an older Bill in a biopic.

      👆🏻 OMG...This!!! Hopkins could pull off Bill with near 100% accuracy. The only thing left now is to figure out who to (potentially) cast as Bob Ross...assuming he’s a part of this story. It would be fun-and well worth while-to explore their relationship, and eventual rivalry from a neutral, well researched perspective. In any case, I’d be more than happy to embark on this journey with you.

      @@stormcorrosion176 Hear, hear! All the way! A project like this would require a lot of research to begin writing, and I was hoping to hear back from Joe, as he posed the idea. Additionally, I'd imagine getting Hopkins onboard would be a challenging task for an indie filmmaker. But I'm certainly willing to jump those hurdles as they come.
      Hopefully we can all discuss it in greater detail. I'm under the same name on Facebook and Messenger if either of you want to send me a PM. (Edit) BTW, I'm in Fort Worth, Texas. There are other Ryan Freers out there, but I should be easy to spot.

    I love that Bill was Bob's mentor, yet has the opposite effect that Bob does on my mood lol. Not the most relaxing fellow to listen to. Great artist, though. People hate on Bob Ross for "stealing" Bill's technique...but Bob always gave him credit and love for giving him his start. People will troll for no reason. The first Bob Ross recording is Bill literally passing the paint brush over to him.

    • @Arctic_Falcon
      @Arctic_Falcon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The weird thing is, despite the handing of the brush, later in Bob's life Bill was actually quite bitter towards him for becoming so wealthy.

      It's not that people are actually hating on Bob I think. He was such a talented artist in his own right. It's that he lifted Bill's entire routine almost verbatim...from the styling of his show, to the phraseology "the happy little clouds," and "the almighty brush," to re-branding and capitalizing on a number of products that Bill created. To make things worse, there were only those few occasions in the beginning when Bob publicly acknowledged Bill for any of it. Many of us who watched these shows on PBS back in the day, missed those episodes. So seeing Bob emerge many years later with a shtick that replicated Bill's in many ways, seemed in poor taste at best.

    • @ryanfreer77
      @ryanfreer77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@XeresKyle Indeed he was. Bill Alexander was the original Happy Painter. Those famous phrases like, "the happy little trees, the happy mountain, the almighty brush," and "you fire in" all started with Bill. Bob Ross' show appeared many years later; and while he was also an incredible artist, it was strange to see how much he lifted directly from Bill without giving him much credit. There were other issues too, which naturally led to a rivalry and some legal disputes between them. You can only imagine what might've been in both their relationship, and creative careers had it not been for this...which is unfortunate.
