I haven’t picked up a paint brush in years. I’ve spent a couple weeks watching your videos, and I’ve now finished three paintings I’m so proud of. Not because they’re the best paintings, but because I’ve returned to an old love of mine. Thanks for the motivation Chris!
I have not painted for 47 years, came accross Chris, thought wow, why not, watched the videos a few times, just done the lime, lemon and red cup, showed my partner and he could not beleive i had painted it. That 47 years i could still remember some of my art college days, but Chris' videos so good. Must admit i have been drawing professionally architecture all that time, but nothing as free as painting. Now i have to go get me some better brushes. Thanks
Thanks for showing the wiping/cleaning of the brush during painting. This is missing from the majority of tutorials I watch. Made it really hard when I first started following along and didn't know when to do it
I love the camera set up so that I can see the reference, the painting and the pallet. Genius. I’ve been watching you for years and want to congratulate you on how you have developed your channel, your painting skill and your business. It’s great to see you grow.
I am a painter from China, deeply inspired by your paintings. Your brushstrokes are smooth and powerful, and your paintings are not only technically exquisite, but also full of creativity and imagination. They are truly stunning. In this painting, you have successfully captured the beauty and tranquility of nature, giving people a sense of transcendent tranquility
I have to say I would never approach this and take the step process as you have … thank you I have ,earned a bunch. I am just re-starting to pick up a brush again.
Very interesting! Thank you. 🎉🎉 OMG when i first began watching this, I was worried about the sky coming through, and then, BAM!!!!!! What an amazing tutorial!!!!!
I always need to be reminded not to forget the theory while I paint. it's always a challenge not to lose it and get into "the feels" too much. I agree, discipline and structure, but a balance.
What I have noticed is I have a different technique for different types of trees. Your technique wouldn’t work so good for a spruce or pine but for an oak or an elm it kicks ass. But really your system would work, it’s all the same, just establish the form and colours and the shape figures itself out
Blocking your trees like that also makes sure they have the shape of the species you are painting - ovoid, pyramid, cylinder - so they look grounded in reality
The Brocolli Flavoured Fudge Pops, i think they had those in the Vegan food trucks @ the anti-nuclear domonstrations at Ringhlals/Barsbäck i used to go to in the 80's, with some Goth friends.... Very civilized, the staff just thought it was amusing. And great Vegan food.. The fudge pop (& the cubistic fudge pop), would have been 100% correct.if you painted Edward Scissorhands next to it. (Or Tim Burton, like he looked when he worked as animator for Disney. He looked exactly like Edward Scissorhands, very Goth.
just curious how often do you paint ? what the average to finish a canvass? i know it's weird, but i'm self taught, and peoples processes helps me establish my own... if that makes any sense. thanks.
The loose style watercolourist in me says noooooooo! A tree should take no more than 80 seconds and you should never need to remix colours. Use the side of a round brush, a rigger and scraper-card. Done.
this was too inspiring unfortunately. Saw this on my homepage when I came to youtube to look for a watercolor video. Now I'm gonna go spend too much money on oil paints lmao 😔✌
Hello. I have a question: how do you oil-out a painting without using harmful solvents? All the references I find talk a formula with some oil + gamsol or similar
Walnut oil. Look into non toxic MGraham paints and galkyd. There are videos on the site about solvent free. I first wipe the brush of heaviest paint with paper towel, then clean more with walnut oil, then wash with ivory soap bar.
hello im korean student and i have some question..! (because there's no one i can get advice from) i'm now practicing oilpainting on the paper( canson oil.acrylic paper) and the problem is that I cant mix the color because it is just erased by my brush ,,, 1.Should I practice on the canvas instead? 2.and also oilpaint can't be painted on the paper? 3.Lastly Can you tell me what type of canvas you are using in the video..? im so sorry that I have so many questions but I'll be so glad if you answer my question...thank you
i've been an artist for over fifty years. This has to be the most redicules way to paint a tree I have ever seenIn the time it took you to paint the big green blob you could have painted the tree. Don't turn it into more than it needs to be.
You do realize this is probably not how he does it himself if he is trying to be fast about it. Its a tutorial for people who cant visualise these simple forms yet

Welcome back. 🎉
Same for me, it is almost 3 decades. Now i started again. I am happy.
Thank you all

Same here! I thought I was doing something wrong before I found out about the cleaning between strokes.
I love the camera set up so that I can see the reference, the painting and the pallet. Genius. I’ve been watching you for years and want to congratulate you on how you have developed your channel, your painting skill and your business. It’s great to see you grow.
I like how you show your reference material. Most painters don't even mention it, though we know they have to, to be painting realistic landscapes.

Surprised you're here...the Chinese artists I've seen online absolutely dwarf the western masters in skill
@@rr.studios Thank you, I really hope to become friends with you ❤

Thanks for all the work you put into making clear, easy to follow exercises!
I really enjoy the setup with the three cameras. I’m a watercolor person myself but I love your tree!
When I go outdoors I totally see things different. What have you done to me 😮
I always need to be reminded not to forget the theory while I paint. it's always a challenge not to lose it and get into "the feels" too much. I agree, discipline and structure, but a balance.

I'm not an artist. I have heard that artist study human and animals anatomy. But you are talking about "plants anatomy" which just blow my mind.
The more I dive into art the more I realize everything is basically cubes

hi thanks for a great demo can I ask are you using oil paint as it looks like your rinsing your brush in water so wondering if it’s water based oils ?
Move over Bob Ross. My paint coach is here and we’re doing trees. Real trees.
great. helped.
Okay bit the basic upside down square tree is banget on its own tbh
That microphone is way too good. It picks up every single *GULP *GULP *GULP *GULP.
Thank you!

I don’t like this technique - Just sharing my opinion respectfully
Hmmmmm…. I definitely think there is an easier way to do this. It’s like you thought, hmmm how can i make this as complicated as possible
