    I used to watch Bill when his show was on PBS. I bought his painting kit and took off! Bill was the who inspired me to start painting. Bob Ross was alright but Bill was the original and to my mind, the best TV painting teacher. I miss him.

    I've heard it said that Bill never became as successful as Bob because Bob had the personality that Bill didn't. Anyone tells me this I can tell right away they haven't watched Bill paint. While Bob was very tranquil and relaxing and easily approachable, Bill's passion for his paintings is always at the forefront.

    • @westoftherockies
      @westoftherockies ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well its not necessarily that bill didn't have personality, sure he did, bill was a much better painter but bob's popularity and show wasn't really about painting, bob ross isn't so popular cause of painting, its bob's personality, its not that he had a better personality but bob helped people relax and wind down, bob was easygoing, calm, soft spoken, listening to bob was like taking tranquilizer's and people need stress relief from life and thats what bob did..so its not one person being better its just what bob did is more sought after, if you're just interested in painting, than bill is prob the guy but if you want stress relief and relaxation, thats not gonna be bill...he's loud, intense, agressive, its hard to watch bill for long cause its kinda stresssful, bob is the exact opposite of bill, and people want to relax in life to wind down from work and the stresses of life thats what bob is a master of..its not about the painting with bob ross, thats secondary.

      He’s said that he was trained to paint differently. He claims to have discovered the wet-on-wet style himself. He pioneered it.

    • @Jealod24
      @Jealod24 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OregonCoastGhost lol, um no. Wet on wet, better known as alla prima has been around since oil painting was invented. It has been used by many famous painters throughout history such as Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh, Sargent. Etc.. Artists used this technique when they either didn't want to, or could wait for, the base layer to dry. And while Alexander and Ross were modern proponents of this method (along with every other tv painter because of the speed), they were hundreds of years late coming to the party. I enjoy painting with this technique but many snooty art teachers look down on Ross and Alexander for teaching this method... mostly because if you only do wet on wet you're limiting yourself... but in my opinion, anything that gets someone to love painting should be celebrated.

    • @Jealod24
      @Jealod24 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wet on wet has been around since oil painting was created so he likely learned from many of the old masters, like Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Sargent. It's hundreds of years old and the technique was well established

    • @hideentity1518
      @hideentity1518 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jealod24 you are wrong bcz you don't catch the idea of wet canvas. Its simply bcz the first magic layer, clear or white. It has nothing to do with alla prima.

      Gonna give you the best tip ever.....clouds wawes mountains are the same thing and its when you stop trying that they appear! Stop trying ! What is important here are not the shapes! Or trying to nake the same wawe what is really important is to get the light right and keep the colors clean so concentrate on that instead of the drawing and you'll see things will come together naturally.
