I worked at a Cadillac & Chevy dealer in college. A homeless looking dude was walking the lot and no one helped him so I walked out to BS with him. I got his life story and then he paid for a new Tahoe with cash. Never judge.

Long before my dad ran car dealerships he sold cars as everyone starts out doing. He told me a story about one time in the 90s, when an old guy in a beat to hell f150 pulled into his Ford dealership. Guy was wearing jeans and a torn up t-shirt. All the older experienced salesman ignored him so my dad decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and approached him. After they got to talking he told my dad "it's your lucky day son, your coworkers are about to be very mad". My dad asked why and he explained what "prequalifying customers" was, and why he purposely dressed the way he did and drove that truck there. He then told my dad he owned a large construction company and needed 6 new trucks and four vans. He paid cash, and came back to my dad for years after that, buying company vehicles and vehicles for him and his family. He also sent a few friends apparently. Needless to say, my dad made a cumulative commission exceeding well into the five figure range from that guy, just because he gave him a chance. Crazy.

I used to sell jewelry. We were always told to greet the customer ASAP, even if your with someone else; atleast acknowledge them. A 16/17 year old girl walked in the store, & the place was packed. One sales man went to help the girl, but really thought she would be waste of his time. He asked how he could help her. She told him her dad told her to go pick out her graduation gift for herself. They looked at several rings & she settled on a $16,000 ring. She asked the sales man to please hold the ring for her, she was going to get her parents. The sales man put it in the safe for her, & really didn't think she would be back. 10 mins before closing she came in with her parents, she showed them what she had picked out. Dad had on overalls, cowboy boots, long hair, & beard. They said he basically looked like ZZ Top. The dad asked the sales man to take him into a backroom. He lifted up his shirt, & he had $16,000 strapped under his overalls. That girl definitely got her ring. Here it was that KID was the largest sale of the day. You never know who you could be waiting on. They might be your next big sale.

unclesamtookmymoney Sam It's not always a lie. During my teenage years I worked for a guy who owned a small trucking company. He would wear wrangler jeans, plaid shirts, suspenders, and work boots most of the time. He paid cash for everything he purchased, even the commercial trucks that cost over 100 grand. If you think it sounds crazy, well the money he was making per week was crazy 25K to 40K. He once told me to try buy everything cash. He said he had tried the credit cards, financing, etc. and that paying cash was better. Thanks to him and listening to Dave Ramsey, I have paid all my debt off except for the mortgage. I discovered that if you live below your means then it leaves room to easily save and make large purchases in cash

I was going to buy a watch for myself on my 18th birthday because I had payday on the same day. I went into the shop and waited for 15 minutes for someone to come by so I could buy it. I was looking in the direction of the people working there all the time, meanwhile they were just standing behind the counter or doing nothing. It was just me in the store. The watch I was going to buy was around $2000. Long story short it ended with me just leaving the store and I went and bought a jacket for $1300 and some new clothes instead.

Only advice I can offer is to be persistent and stay strong. My first business did well for less than a year before crashing and burning hard. It took me two years to get my head together and try again with something else. I know people who have failed several times before making it work. You just have to keep going no matter what. They have an old saying in Japan "Fall down seven times, get up eight", I think that's the kind of mentality you need to get anywhere in this world.

damn shame they treated you like that. when I worked at a Ford dealership, we have a brand new 2013 Saleen Mustang that they were asking $10k over sticker...a woman and her bf pulled up in a beat up Honda and nobody was paying them any attention. I was just finishing up with a deal from earlier in the day, and I greeted them. they were sitting in the salon. my manager called me up to the sales tower and told me to tell them to get out because they stunk and there's no way they could afford the car. Told me to tell them the car was $30k more than what they were originally asking. I walked over while a different sales person was already telling them the fake price of the car and asked if they needed help (that other sales person still hadn't asked if they needed help). the woman said she saw this online and wanted it but didn't know it was a stick. she asked me if I could teach how to drive drink. I showed her on the lot in a used focus we had. she caught on and then asked me if the price of the car was really the price. I said yes and if she were interested I'd get my manager to give her a discount. her exact words..."no need for a discount, you were the only one that offered to help us and you showed me how to drive stick. I'll buy it right now in cash"...her grandfather left her with $10 million in his will. NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.

When i sold solar panels people in my field were very picky about the homeowners they tried to sell. After a rough day my coworkers decided to leave early because the last house on the block had several african americans outside with kids and i guess figured they wouldnt be worth trying to talk to them. So i was like what the hell i gave them my pitch and the guy shut me down but we just kept talking and eventually he decided it was worth looking into for his business. It turned out the electricity company was screwing him and it was an easy sale. It was a 2.5 million dollar sale netting about a $56,000 commission which was a company record at the time until we scored a military contract. After the sale he showed me his Jeep SRT8 and his Challenger Hellcat and he fed me and offered me a beer lol. To this day we stay in touch and he is probably going to be one of the primary investors to my new business.

A wadded up personal check in his pocket. He had no I.D. I called the bank to verify. The person asked me to describe the man, which I did. She said "the check is approved". I said "wait I didn't give you an amount". She replied, "it doesn't matter how much, the check is good". One of my favorite memories and a life lesson to all. Still makes me smile.

Funny story. Back in the early 90’s my step father just got out of work, dirty clothes and all, looking to buy a showroom floor 1993 cobra. He had a ‘86 mustang gt at the time and when he said he wanted the cobra the looked at him funny so he said he’d be in the very next day with the money for the car..the salesman laughed right in his face. So the next day he walked in, nice clothes and smacked the 30 grand right in front of the guys face. And then of course that same salesman tried to help him, he said hell no and gave the commission to the guy that helped him. Good times

I didnt believe he owned them as i know their values are high and climbing again. The fallowing week he pulled up in one having the other on his trailer and a new mustang GT and buying the suspension parts for his trucks. My manager laughed at me for wasting that hour talking, but i made a $4,500 sale. Guy always came back to me and he even referenced me to people. I cant count the engines, trans, or even transercases, and performance suspension parts ive sold. I made more sales at the front counter only working 20hours a week, even stocking shevles between my time, than the guy selling parts to dealers and shops who cleared $80,000 in sales a month working full time...

My brother did the same thing. He was on his way home from work, as a electrician, to see the new Vette. Sales completely ignored him until one guy finally walked over and told him that "someday you might be able to afford one of these if you play your cards right". He went on and on, talking like my brother was nothing. When he left he pulled around by the showroom floor in his Vette and smoked the tires through the lot while flipping the guy off. The salesman stood there with his mouth open. This was the Chevy dealer in Tacoma, Wa at 56th and South Tacoma Way. Funny thing is, a year after that I decided to buy a new Blazer and went to the same dealer's truck lot in my off road truck, a beat K5 Blazer. Not one sales person would come out to talk with me even though I was the only person there. They were playing cards in a corner office. I drove to Puyallup and bought a loaded 4x4 Blazer. Afterwards, I drove back to Tacoma and to the dealership. I asked to see the General Manager. At first they said no but after hearing why I was there an older guy stepped out and asked me a lot of questions. He asked me to stay there. 15 minutes later, all these guys walked in. The old guy asked me if I recognized them. I did, they were the same guys that looked out at me on the truck lot and laughed. He turned around and fired everyone of them. He said he was the owner and apologized to me and gave me $100 to take my wife out for dinner.

I know what you mean, I went to Audi Cary to look at a RS 3, I walked in, walked around the car a bit. Not ONE person bothered to see what i wanted. One guy sitting near the door looked up, then went back to what he was doing. So I walked out, but then I thought, I just paid this dealership over $5000 buck over the last couple of months for brakes and tires. So I parked right next to the door and walked back in, suddenly the guy near the door was interested. I ask, "is is customary for you to allow potential customers to walk in, then walk out without anyone saying a word??" He says,"no", I replied, "YOU JUST DID" and walked out to my S6 and drove away. You are correct, those who make money selling ANYTHING should NEVER blow off a potential customer!

My first time browsing for myself got ignored. It almost botched another sale even. I was browsing as I didn't have the money to buy yet. I was new in town, a year out of high school, and stacking my paychecks at a decent paying job. I just so happened to be there with my in-laws as one was buying a mustang and had brought me, my wife, and his father who is an engineer. Yeah, big mistake. They found out about how they asked and promptly ignored me and never shopped there again. Doesn't help that there are almost a dozen siblings.

LMAO I used to sell cars at 18 man and because I was so young and new I tried to always help everyone. There was this guy who walked on the lot looking like just a bored teenager and nobody wanted to help him but me. He ended up buying two new 2016 TLX Advanced Packages from me in cash. He was 20 and his father had actually just passed and he had a huge inheritance and just wanted to buy his mother and himself new matching cars. Never judge people at dealers.... never. When I turned 19 last year I had joined the military. I went to go buy my new mustang that’s in my profile picture and nobody took me serious at the dealer thinking I was some E-2 with no credit, no money, etc. . Asked for a test drive and bought the car that day to their surprise.

It's fun trolling the dealer that snubbed you. in 85 after I got discharged from the navy I went to a local dealer in Daytona where I lived. wanted to check out a used 84 vett. The salesman told me, after looking me up and down, no test drives. Went to another dealer down the road. Salesman was nice, helpfull and I left with a brand new z28. First stop, other dealer to show what I had just bought. It had only been 3 hours since he told me no test drives. So he remembered me. Childish but sure felt good. BTW, the second dealer DID let me test drive an 84 vet. That's why I decided on a new z28.

Have a similar story. My boy was looking for a Lexus for his wife. Where we were looking was a high dealership area ( many car dealers on one block) so we would walk from dealer to dealer. When he found the car he wanted no one even gave us a second look. Eventually one “ go getter” came up to us and was actually friendly. We came to an agreement that we would test drive the car before going further. When he went to get the dealer plates I over heard the guy with the expensive socks, apparently when you have money your socks have to be expensive, tell him that it was a waste of time.
We test drive the car came back and the salesman said “ so what do you think?” My boy said he liked it and let’s make the deal. When we went to start the paperwork inside my boy went to get his car from up the block. When he pulled up into the parking lot with his mint Nissan 370Z touring model... the looks on the faces of the salesman who ignored us spoke for them. Assholes....
All of a sudden now we were offered drinks and snacks from their lunch area.
Right before closing the deal we said that we wanted to speak to the main manager. He came up to us all happy and pretending to be our friend. My boy says listen you know what I’ll take the car off this lot right now if you give me a discount for how your staff treated me before they knew I wasn’t just a “waste of time “ according to those guys right there. So they gave him a cash back deal and he was happy. He even tipped the guy who helped us out with a red lobster gift card... he’d over heard the guy on the phone with his significant other saying that he would be late for dinner bc he was in the process of a sale. So my boy told me to wait ,while they prepped the car. He went to a pharmacy and got a gift card to red lobster and told the guy that dinner was on him.

If not, pretend to call a friend, and say "No, I didn't. The service was too slow. We'll get a Mercedes instead anyways I think. Is it still cool to come over in a bit?"
Then as you leave, make sure they see you getting into a really expensive car.

Having worked for a Chevy dealer for 22yrs, I’ll be the first to say... 9 times out of 10 it’s the owners/managers that decide if those specialty cars go out on test drives. The reason being, typical high line car buyers want as low as miles as possible on these cars, not to mention many people would come in and want to test drive one with no intention of buying, either saying they are in service waiting for their car or they’re just killing time... being a sales rep I can appreciate not going out on the typical random test drive, it gets old when they waste your time... unless you’ve been a sales consultant for a dealer, you’ll never understand the strokes we deal with.

Same shit happened to me recently, I went to a lot of dealerships, no one gave me the time of day. I bought from the last dealership I went to, an older guy came out and helped me, but only after the four guys standing on the steps ignored me. The old guy didn’t know much about vetted, but I knew enough to get by. I purchased a brand new 2017 GS 2LT. I told the management team about being totally ignored on my first visit there a week prior, and about the guys on the steps ignoring me the day I purchased. I also let everyone know, that I would never recommend their dealership for anyone to make a purchase. When I took my Bette in for its 500 mile break in oil change, the service was awesome. So now, I only recommend their service department. But it is really amazing how people get stereotyped based on the clothes they wear, or the type of car they drive, or in a lot of cases, based on race. I was dressed like a bum, and was driving a 2014.5 Camry, I guess that translates to some people as having no money, and just a waste of their time. The old guy that came outside to finally help me that day got the commission, and the entire time I was there, I never saw any other salesman with a customer.

Had a similar experience when I went to buy a new Mustang GT. I show up at the dealer in a 20 year old beat up Ford Ranger, jeans, worn shoes and shirt. They “couldn’t find the keys” for the specific car I was looking at so I test drove the ecoboost. No interest in even talking numbers they were just trying to get me off the lot. I told them to call or email me because I was serious about buying the new GT. No response. Bought the car elsewhere.
A month later I ordered a bottle of touch up paint from them and drove my new car into the parking lot. Same salesman comes out- the look on his face when he saw me was priceless 😆

  • @rogersmith7194

I understand your frustration, which caused you to do this, but to be fair most of these dealerships get more people just looking and pretending that they could afford to buy than actually have the intent of purchasing a vehicle. It’s a waste of time for the salespeople who have to make their commission to feed their families, too. I’m sure it’s exhausting for them to keep trying to help people who really have no intentions to buy, unlike you...
They’re just trying to help people who are serious and can benefit both parties.
I am not a salesperson, but I think it’s important to understand both sides of a negotiation, and to understand what motivates people to do what they do.

Roger Smith very true, plus you rolled up and said “the guy in the black shirt had no one talking to him” how do you know he wasn’t offered help already and told them to let him be?!?” Sometimes people want their space and don’t want to be hovered and pressured by salespeople to buy and when their ready they will ask for help.

This was fun! Met my Wife at a Dealership to make a deal on a new car she wanted. I got there first, my car was older, and had tired paint, but was nice otherwise. (Sales staff ignored me for several minutes) She pulled up (her car was nicer and sparkled due to recent full service at the car wash) Sales reps came pouring out of the Dealership to wait on her while I was waiting to be served. She told them, "I am here to buy TODAY if the numbers come up right, and my Husband (walking over to me) will be deciding if the numbers are right!" Long awkward silence followed, and all but one went slinking back inside. She did buy from them, but I made sure it cost them!

I was shopping for a new car and went to a Chevy dealer to test drive the 2008 Corvette Z06. The salesman refused to let me test drive the car. So, I went somewhere else and got a test drive. Unfortunately, my wife did not like the Corvette so we bought a Mercedes instead. A few months later, I was in the neighborhood of the dealership that refused to let me test drive a vette. I decided to show them what they missed out on but, the dealership had gone out of business. The smile on my face was bigger than when I took possession of our MB

      @JayDKB  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yeah they don't really let you test drive vettes, UNLESS you look like you got TONS of money. I couldn't test drive mines even when I was buying it. They just dont want to take the chance ALTHOUGH I think it also depends on the dealership too.

Reminds me of when I was 19. I worked double shifts for over a year (when my hourly rate was about $5.25 and hour) and saved $7, 000.00. Not knowing any better, I liked the (at the time) newly released Nissan 240SX (trunk model). So, off I went to the dealership where the salesman would not let me test drive the car. I didn't argue the point, and spent over an hour just checking out what they had on the lot (I remember really wanting that car). My next stop was to the Ford dealership, where I test drove and immediately placed an order for a brand new black 1990 LX 5.0 5-speed sedan. Out the door, it was a little over $12,000 (my payment was $250.00 a month). What a car, great experience and now I am on my 3rd Mustang. I ended up writing a letter to the Nissan dealership, explaining that I had $5,000 burning a hole in my pocket that day (saving the remaining $2,000), and then I thanked them............I never heard back.

When I turned 20, back in 1991, I had my mind made up that I wanted to sell my crappy old truck & buy a brand new Eagle Talon. I even had the money in the bank to buy outright due to a settlement I was awarded. So I went to the local dealership & started checking out the Talons outside. It took awhile before a salesguy showed up and, when he did, I could tell right away he was kind of a jerk. He wasn’t very friendly, didn’t seem very eager to answer my questions and when I asked if I could take a test drive his response was “Uh no. We only give test drives to ppl that are definitely going to buy the car”. I was not only shocked by that but also thinking WTF? Since when does someone have to say they’re definitely buying a car before they test drive it? That’s news to me. Anyway, I told him that I was interested in the car but wasn’t going to buy unless I tried one out first. But that didn’t seem to sway him any. He still said no, sorry. So basically, just by looking at my age & maybe even my casual clothing, he had already made up his mind that I was not only too young but also too broke to buy a car. His and the dealership’s loss though cuz about a week later, I went to another dealership (who also weren’t great but at least were willing to sell me a car) & bought a brand new one with a cashiers check for the full amount. So you should definitely never judge a book by its cover.

Because it's their job to sell cars, not judge you based on how you look. The best way to sell cars is to treat everyone like they are a potential buyer. If they ignore you, they don't think you're buying, which means they don't think you can afford the car. That's why people get offended.

My friend and I tried an experiment where we went to dealerships in regular clothes and dress clothes. I don't need to explain which one got us more service but at the same time you can't blame salesmen for judging unless you have been one yourself. You see repeated patterns in people by the way they act/present themselves. In their eyes they want to help the person pulling up in their BMW vs a Toyota. It's nice to see people break the stereotype every now and then.

Tip: 1. Have the car you want pulled up on your phone.
    2. Go to dealership and start looking at the cheaper models.
    3. When they come out to you and start talking about the cheaper model, pull out the phone and show them you the model you want.
    4. This tactic has worked well for me when I went to see the 2018 Brz tS and another time I went in to buy a sport bike, I started by looking at their cheap dirt bikes and scooters first til someone came to me and after small talk I just straight up showed them what I wanted on their website I had pulled up on my phone.
TL;DR. Have the model you want pulled up on your phone. Go look at their cheaper more common sales models to get someone out to you more quicker and once they do you show em your phone.

I'm the early 60's my dad walked into a Jag dealership in SoCal. It was right after the E Type first came out. He was covered in dirt from work but had a pocket full of cash. At that time they were printing five hundred dollar bills, as in one note worth $500.
The Jag was up on a turntable and turning in the showroom and the staff was ignoring my dirty dad with the cash.
So....my dad got up on the turntable and got into the Jag, locked the doors and began licking the bills and sticking them on the inside of the driver door window.
At this point the sales guys were in a frenzy to get the keys to get my dad out of the car. He would just keep reaching across and locking them out. During this fiasco there was a young salesman who just sat back and laughed at the show my dad was putting on.
When dad finally got out of the car he bought it from the young laughing salesman that didn't judge him.

That was terrible attempt at trolling and a completely missed opportunity. I have worked at dealerships for 25 years and recently changed careers. I was the general manager of a large Lexus dealership for the last 10 years prior to switching. Prior to becoming a general manager I have sat in every seat in the sales department of a dealership ie. sales manager, deskmanager, finance manager and so on. So to say I know the inner workings of a sales Department of a dealership is an understatement. Traffic into a dealership is considered Liquid Gold and is recorded obsessively regardless if a customer enters the dealership or not and is interested in a vehicle or not. All should be greeted, and I don't mean attacked on the lot aggressively simply approached with a business card and informed that if they have any questions where they can find you and if a test drive is needed you will absolutely provide. Dealerships spend on average well in excess of $50,000 a month to advertise sometimes doubling that and more. They literally will tally every pair of shoes that crosses the curb and divide that by the amount they spent on their advertising and render a dollar amount of what it cost to get a single individual on their lot. Sometimes that number can be in the hundreds and higher, so every person on a lot as a crucial opportunity. The challenge is getting your sales department on board with that because snap judgements are prejudicial, immoral and cost money. I wish you walked in there and nicely asked for the manager or owner, walk him outside and let him know that you were on his lot and weren't even approached even though sales people saw you looking at vehicles but decided not to approach you. Then say, I wonder why they didn't approach me, with a nice long pause...... including eye contact. Then simply show him your new Corvette and let him know you paid full sticker because you don't like haggling. Then simply tell him to have a nice day and leave. Not confrontational at all however the nuclear bomb that would have erupted inside that dealership once you left would have probably been audible from the parking lot . And it would have been directed at the exact people who made a judgment that you weren't worthy of approaching. Skin color clothing and appearance are all parts of these immoral snap judgments.. this is no secret. They would have the sales people coming out to greet squirrels in the parking lot after that. What they did was profiling with prejudice. Every customer should get a fair shake and equal treatment regardless of who or what they are . Besides being a cardinal sin in a dealership and I mean any dealership in North America it is immoral. You had an opportunity to make the experience of other people better that might face the same challenge, a missed opportunity. And that was the vein of my existence for probably the last 20 years in that business. Instead you tell the low man on the totem pole you were there but you didn't purchase because of selection....

Alex you are absolutely right, recently one such dealership wasn’t paying attention when I visited them by profiling me as too young to buy a car. They were being very disrespectful and not caring about the customer. One of the salesperson even said “ well don’t you have to contact an elderly person”. I smiled and left the dealership with his business card. Bought the car from some other dealership which was way better than that. Went back to the other bad dealership and asked the same guy “ how are you?”. He said “I am great, are you still looking for that car?” . Took him outside and showed him that I bought the same car from some other dealership. He apologised if he had failed to meet any of my requirements that led to me buying car from some other dealership. I then mentioned that you profiled me as “too young” and being disrespectful. Looked him dead in the eye and left. I felt very satisfied after that

Just a simple story that happened to me. A while back after a hurricane I got stuck in my neighborhood cause I couldn't get over some stuff and got fed up with that. I always wear in shorts and T-shirts and went to the dealership with my old Mazda 5 minivan. I wanted to buy a Chevy Colorado (yes don't judge me lol) and the guy kept trying to sell me a used old model after I told him I wanted the new (at the time) Z71. I got frustrated and the guy left, I looked for the youngest guy on the dealership and approached him. He was very professional and I asked him " do you want to sell a truck?" The guy said yes of course! I told him " I want that one (the one on the floor). You should've seen the face of the other salesman when I drove away on my new Z71...

It happens everywhere happened to me when purchasing my 2017 lifted Denali. I had just got back from a 2 yr project working up to 13 hours a day 7 days a week straight! As soon as I got home my wife insisted I showered and change nope didn’t listen. Walked into the dealership wothwork boots a dirty frc shirt and jeans all swaddled and rusted up from work. I wasn’t even approached. I was frustrated and inpatient. I walked out went to another dealership but before I walked out I went to my welder rig truck and took out a duffle bag changed my shirt in front of the manager and nicely told him I’ll go else where with my money plus I was going to pay cash. When he realized I was a welder and had luggage in my truck bed he went speechless and tried me one last time but it was too late took my money elsewhere to a more fancier neighborhood and was treated fairly and ended up getting a better deal.

I drove up and sat outside for a second looking at a 2017 gt350, raptor, and focus RS and I was surprised when a young salesman came out to ask me if I had any questions or needed help buying. I told him thanks but I'm only dreaming right now and he pointed me in the direction of where to go to get my questions answered. When I was leaving I saw him again and waved him over and gave him a nice handshake and thank you for even taking the time to ask me and not discriminate. As a salesman myself defiantly can not judge a book by its cover but why everyone talking about cash like its gold. Dealerships hate cash because they can't make money on it. People walk in and say they paying cash and thats the worst thing they can do because the dealership won't move on the price as much. If you act like your financing it, then get a good price, then at the last second pay cash for it you will benefit from it!!!!!

He said he went to the local dealer in (farmer type) coveralls looking for the car he was going to pay cash for, but he got no attention. Eventually he went somewhere else and bought his car. Then he went back to the dealer, again dressed in his coveralls and said something to the effect, "I was here last week looking for a car like this but nobody gave me the time of day, so I went to Pittsburgh and bought this one with cash."

They didn't seem too bad man, did they literally ignore you when you said you wanted to buy one last time or was it that they just didn't come up to you? If the latter, its probably because they're used to people just looking so unless you come up to them they assume you aren't interested in buying. Pulling up in the corvette made it clear you have bought one before and they're probably interested in your car which is why they came out. 😆

This is great! When i was a young man i went to a Land Rover dealership and they didn't even come out to talk to me... i bought a brand new Range Rover Sport from a different dealership and immediately went back to the shitty dealership and tolled them. It was a blast and they knew they screwed up big time!

Same thing happened with us. Went to a Benz dealership, they didn’t want to sell us the new CLA. Wouldn’t even look at us - we were just dressed casually. So we went over to the next dealership and in the course of two years, bought 4 Mercedes Benz and 1 audi, all brand new in cash. That other arrogant dealership still emails asking for our business. LMAO

Chacha Chaperan Wala Lol, no. You just wire them the cash...simple. They even gave discounts because payment was upfront. About 2-4,000 off of MSRP depending on the car.

Man, i was looking for my 3rd car a while ago, I’ve always driven bmws, I’ve got near perfect credit, I’m 22 years old and have payed off 2 other bmws and i went to the bmw dealership looking to buy a 2016 335i and because of how old i was they laughed and said I’d be better off with another dealership and i should aim lower. Later came back to that same dealership in 2015 335i m package and told them i was so glad i didn’t give them my business.

I’m a 20 year old car salesman. I had a gentleman with nothing but overalls and boots on. All of my co workers didn’t want to help him based off of looks. I went to help him and he walks me over to his old farm truck, opens a briefcase full of cash and says “I’ve been looking for someone to help me buy 13 trucks for my farm.” My co workers were pissed when they found out that I got 13 deals in 1 day. Moral of the story. Never judge a book by its cover. Always be a go getter.

Said i needed to have bought cars before from a dealership.
So i went to another dealership.
    They got me a car.
And i have bought 6 more after.
I never went back to the other dealership again.
They don't want to deal with me, I never go back and deal with them.

As a owner you have millions of dollars in inventory and I want a employee there to not only ask any questions that do not require the possible buyer walking 1/4 mile across a hot lot to track down a employee but also too keep a eye on my merchandise. Also my insurance required the vehicles to be attended by a employee when ever people were on the lot.

By buddy got his 2015 F-350 broken into and he got the truck back a week later. He hated the thought if getting in it when someone else was in it for that week. So he sold the truck. Went to the nearest Ford dealership with 100,000 cash ready to buy a 2017 f-350 diesel brand new. He's a welder so he was dirty and didn't look like much but he had the cash in his bag cuz he wanted to spend an hour max buying a new truck. So he waited for 30 mins and noone came out to help him. Told him to go to the GMC/caddy dealer in town and he walks in the door and gets attention right away and then buys a brand new Denali 3500HD dually in cash. You can never judge a book by the cover.

I did the same thing. I drive up in a old ford ranger and no sales agent approached me. Well I leave and come back in my CTS-V Cadillac and wow did they ( agents ) start rolling out. Of course they denied recognizing me. Week went by and I pulled up in my 2013 Cadillac SUV platinum, paid cash for it. Looks are deceiving lol. Much respect to you sir

This brings back harsh memories for me. Walked into a Nissan Dealership about wanting to buy a Nismo 370z. No one took me serious. I was this tall asian kid who just turned 19 and have been working since 17 to save up money for the down payment. (Saved about 9k). Nobody answered my questions seriously, it was just a "yea" or "of course" everytime i asked something.
2 months later, walked into another dealership 3 streets down bought a 2015 370z Nismo with cash in hand for downpayment.
I drove into the first nissan dealership that didnt treat me well for a service (oil change), just to troll them and show them that I had the money, one of the sales person did remembered me and was surprised kind of.
The lesson is, don't judge anyone for anything. They may dress poorly or looks poor, but some people just don't give a shit about how they dress for things. They can be very rich, never judge.

My dad retired back in 2015 and collected about 280,000 from his 401K all his life he took care of his family and now it was time for his reward for all his hard work .he is into older muscles car like 57 Chevy or Buick’s well we went into a classic car show room in Palm Springs and when we walked in my dad automatically saw and fell in love with a 57 Chevy Camero all red and red and white interior it was beautiful and prices at 60,000 after about. 10 min of admiring the cars on the showroom a guy came out no hi ,how are you, or can I help you guys ,first word came out his mouth was 30 min browsing limit WTF!!! I held back and bit my tongue.my dad told the guy that he really liked the camero and what he said next was obvious he felt we was not worthy of his time .he said we do not finance or accept down payments for there car wow we turn around and walk away two weeks later we found the same car in Bakersfield ca brought it for 64,000 cash and drove it back to the first classic car dealer his jaw DROP! Cause I know he remember us and told him we was ready to buy but you pre judge us and you lost out his expression was classic itself I hope this was a lesson learn and actually had two customers about to walk into the showroom stop and admire my dads car and ask if he wanted to sell it Wow!,! Right in front of this classic car dealer it was a good feeling but this car is now my dad pride and glory.i hope no one ever goes Thur that. UPDATE its actually a 57 chevy bel air

Lol, I know man. I have purchased and leased quite a few cars and I’m 35. Before I bought my Jetta GLI in 2014, I went to a handful of dealerships. By far, the worst was Subaru. You could be standing outside in the pouring rain with $100k and nobody come to help you. I even walked INSIDE the dealership to see if anyone was available and they still wouldn’t help me. Would never pay a single dollar to a company like that

I worked at a ford dealer selling before , I sold a gt500 off the showroom floor to a guy in flipflops cargo shorts and tank top. nobody paid him any mind for like 20 min until i saw him and opened it up let him sit in it. I didn't have to educate him much he new everything there was to know about the car and the process. when it was all said and done the manager tried to tell him they where going to go detail the car really quick for him and he replied none of you touch my car accept him and he pointed at me threw me the keys and said lets go get some gas! I got to drive that bad boy and he threw in a 500 tip when we left the lot. Def never judge anyone! side note I quit shortly after that because the dealership only paid me a flat $300 on a car that was marked up over 20k over msrp . bum ass dealership!

Here's the lesson (and yes, my opinion is law): treat everyone the same until they give you a reason not to. Don't assume. It's because of this behavior that, although I am not rich but middle class, I use this to my advantage by dressing in the shittiest clothes that I have when I go to look at cars. It almost always guarantees me anonymity while in the parking lot and not having someone follow me around. They see a bummy looking guy in ripped jeans with sleeves cut off the shirt and hat on backwards as someone most likely not able to afford payments on a used 1972 AMC Gremlin. That way, I can look at cars and trucks in peace. Thank you profiling salespeople!

Few year back i bought a 2013 Camaro from chevy and a fee month ago came back to the same dealer but with a different salesman. I wanted to buy a silverado but the guy approached me 20 min later after ive been there and didnt seem like he wanted to help me buy a car at all. Guy even said im better off buying a car from craisgslist instead of getting to debt. So i said ok sounds good just do the paper work for this 2017 Z71 Silverado he didnt want to but did anyway. We went inside and guy said my payments would be around $1100 a month and he said i prob wont afford it. So thats when the dealer who sold me the Camaro quickly came and helped me instantly. Silverado was $60,000 and the guy asked how ive been and all. After he helped me with everything i payed cash and the other guy who didnt want to help me was shocked. He them apologized to me and said he was very busy with another client to then i said its ok ima come back in a fee years maybe for a vette but my boy here is the one ill call next time. Dont judge a book by its cover.

My story has nothing to do with buying cars...but Recently I went into a jewelry store dressed as I always do, often in torn jeans, t-shirt and flip flops.. I started off just buying a bday gold necklace for my 14 yr old...wound up coming in 3 days in a row and investing in over $150,000 in diamond rings.. The old woman who waited on me was bragging about me to her other workers.. that last day (had to wait 2 days for the old lady salesperson who was on her off days) but I came in and got another $40 thousand.. but I kept my business with the old lady who gave me my initial recognition without judging my work appearance.
