Justin, you're spot on with the 2017. The better cooling is why I chose my '17 Z06 1LZ M7. I came from an '07 Exige S which was a riot, but this C7 Z06 is a full on assault of the senses!

Thanks for your input I have a 2008 z06 with 13,000 miles and I’m going to trade it in and now I was thinking about getting a 16 but I’m definitely going to go for 17 now so thank you for the information I needed that!!!
I had a guy comment the other day that said he had a manual Z06 that would go into limp mode. He has the first manual that I have heard of doing that. Great video as usual.
You have brand new 2017 Z06’s on dealer lots, 2016, 2015, 2018, etc. When the new Vette comes out probably 3 months or so later, I’m gonna grab one. True enough the mid-engine is gonna control the ohhh’s and ahhhh’s, but I’ll still be in a Vette at a great price point.
I was actually going to get a 15 z06 3lz fully loaded. It came with the carbon fiber roof. It even had low miles! Only 1,200! But that front camera was a must as well as the carbon ceramic rotors which that one didn't have so I went with a 16 that did that those items as well as the transparent top.
Enjoyed the video. If I was going to get a C7Z, I'd do what I did with my C6Z if I couldn't get what I wanted used locally. Order the base 1LZ and just leave it at that. I really don't need all the faux felt and fancy stitching for the interior. And no extra exterior stuff. I avoided the Z07 on my car and I'm glad I did. I saved almost $10K. As well as the carbon fiber stuff. Saved thousands there, too. I kept the car as mechanically simple as possible. And make mine manual, please. That Tremec is a shear joy to shift. Especially with a pure synthetic lube. For me, the car is more than 'fancy' and 'posh' enough. It's already quite a step up from mine at it's base level. Though, I might go with a sport seat for the driver's side only (if so offered on the newer cars) and the front camera (if offered as a standalone-probably not...) if it'll save the front lower valance wind splitter from curbs. That being said, the C7Z is a monster killing machine at it's $81K base MSRP. And I'm sure I could get 6-10% off. Especially if I went back to the same dealer I got my 2013 from. The only problem? I don't want to give up my 427. It's such a gem of a sports car.....It's a very attractive mistress who's undemanding...Does it get much better?
That 427 and the C6 Z06 is definitely something special so I can fully understand the hesitation! I got my Z07 packaged C7 at a really good price and it came with all the features I wanted. this car is really spoiled me in the fact that I can have all the performance I want as well as all the fancy features I want so I'm hoping in the future it stays the same for me 🤞
Enjoyed the video during my layover in Bangkok. The '17 would be a great option. Personally, I would like to add to my Vette family by acquiring an older 2011 ZR1! Who knows! BTW, nice garage set up. Blue skies, Jg
Great vid with detailed explanations why the '17 C7Z may be the sweet spot in terms of price/performance with cooling upgrades vs MY 2015 and 2016. There are reasons to consider a 2019 Z as well. The '19 C7Z's have the ZR1 differential (stronger), ZR1 fuel pump, Mag Ride update, 0-40 ESP oil, even larger radiators (A8 has a 2 1/8" and M7 1 3/8" + aux radiator vs 1" + aux cooler on the M7 '17s). Also '19 Zs built after Feb 1, 2019 included the new non-hygroscopic auto trans fluid. Buyers need to weigh these improvements with the increased cost of a '19.
100% correct but this was specifically the sweet spot for performance and price. The 19's will be the most expensive without a lot of additional performance mods to back up that additional cost.
I have a question. I just bought a C7Z. I just checked my VIN and my C7Z has the MY code K which stands for MY2019. But I think my car was produced in mid 2018. Do I have the ZR1 differential, fuel pump etc. or nah? According to the MY I should have it right? Thanks! :)
You are very welcome! This is the main reason why I started this channel. I really just wanted to help share the knowledge of car trims and options since some of them can get pretty confusing! I'm happy to hear it's working 😁👍
You should mention that you can upgrade your '15 with '17 parts. Also, if you want the red stitching, there are paint pens that will change the color of the stitching. There are TH-cam videos on it.
I did mention you could put the supercharger lid on your current car and gain a little bit extra power as well. I'm not 100% sure I trust the dying of the stitching to last through the test of time.
How does it keep the oil cool? That would be interesting. The coolant is piped through your engine block to keep the block at proper operating temps. Your oil simply lubricates and be be the temp your engine makes it. Not the other way around. Your coolant does the work you claim the oil does. The oil will keep your metal bits from eroding one another. You're welcome.
You may want to look up oil coolers and how they work on the C7 Corvette. We know how oil lubricates, but when it overheats, it doesn't do its job anymore and that's where cooling comes in.
The Supercharger lid houses larger cooling bricks. Just the lid probably won’t do anything. The newer the car the fewer the farts. Also if you have warranty left is a bonus.
The oil is retroactive to any one of the C7s. The magnetic ride control update can be added to any one of them as well. Does ZR1 differential and fuel pump is pretty nice though! 👍
Hope all is well. You should set up a meet for your Tri-State subscribers. I am in Northwest Jersey. I think it would be cool to roll out on a caravan through the roads of PA.
Enjoy your postings. Just subscribed. Where in PA. Have a '17 GS Conv in NEPA. Looking at a couple of '16 Zs A8. Do not track so would work for me. The Bigger lid was a great tip! Thanks.
I own a 2016 Z51 automatic. Love it. I'd love a Z06 for the HP. But I hear negatives about tire wear versus the Z51 because of the wider tires. Also, my Z51 is a great daily driver. How about the Z06? Some say it's a racecar on the street and not as comfy as a daily driver.
Really good video. You gave a lot of good information in it. What are your thoughts on the C8? I never have cared much for the Corvette until I saw the C8 prototypes. It just looks like an unbelievable value for a car.
The 2017 minor improvements are cool but it would be ridiculous to trade up.to a 2017. The 2018 and newer had a better paint as they improved the paint booth in bowling green. You can add a front ca,era if needed.
I haven't read necessarily great things about the 18s and the better paint booth. You'll pay more for an 18 and won't have anything really additional over the 17. This is supposed to be a tip on how to get the most for your money and that's where a 17 is right now.
Hey J good stuff man. Didnt realize the 17 Z06 had that many differences. Don't if the differences warrant 10 more g's though. You know what I mean ?? Thanks nonetheless bro and congrats on 7k. Proud of you my friend. 😉👍👊
Thanks, JT! That's exactly what I'm saying though, the 17 might be a lateral move for some in price right now. I checked the whole US, though and the exact spec I want isn't anywhere to be found ☹️
Thanks brother for this video. I was just wondering wich Z06 is the best and you nailed it. I have the car that you were describing you wish you had with the additional options...2017 Z06 3LZ. I have been thinking of trading my car for 2020 ZR1 but I'm not sure if the are going to have a 2020, I hope they do. But watching you video gave a little peace of mind...lol Kerp up the work with the videos!
GM has stated the 2019 C7 ZR1 is single model year run. I was fortunate to find one although I had to go out of state to get it. Ordering was out of the question since virtually all dealer allocations were spoken for. That said there's a price to be paid by owning one. Literally. With some body parts in particular being next to impossible to obtain as they're on national back order and thus require a valid reason along with photographs and GM's approval. For example the front splitter, which is carbon fiber. Not to mention it costs over $4,000. Yeah, I know. It's insane. And for instance I found a small flake along the edge of the left front carbon/ceramic rotor on mine while cleaning the wheels and a new one was $2800, plus labor. That's why he's right about the Z06 being the best for track use. Parts are more readily available should they be needed. And they will be. Tires, brake rotors/and brake pads especially are consumables and one goes through them almost as fast as fuel. Yeah, that's an exaggeration of course, but not as much as some may think.
The ZR1 is definitely a monster and I'd love to have one! I know the exposed carbon fiber lip even for the Z06 is around 3k And the carbon ceramic rotors for the Z06 are ready around that same price as well! It's not necessarily cheap to track any one of the "track ready" Corvettes. I know what you mean with the ZR1 though with it being a one year production it's going to be tough to get any parts for it if needed. Either way you have a heck of a car! 👍👍
@@duaneclark3539 Yeah I've watched that thread for a while on there and someone noted that sitting in the sun faded the dye which is what I am afraid of.
HorsePower Obsessed Well, I bought a black on black 2017 Grand Sport 2LT today. It has just short of 5000 miles on it. I'm from Canada, so 8000 KM. It's in a different city 200 miles away, so ill be picking it up Wednesday next week. First non daily driver I've ever bought.
I actually saw a Z06 the other day at a stop light while I was in my truck and MAN... that car is so freaking nice it's unreal. I own one, but never actually get to see it driving along when I'm in it (obviously) but it's really a sight to see so I know exactly what you mean. I think the NSX's are pretty nice cars but there's something about the C7 Z06 that is just really striking.
Looks like the 2017’s can sell for as much as 15-20k over the cost of 2015’s with same mileage give or take. For someone who is just going to enjoy the car for afternoon rides every once in a while are these differences worth that much money? The stitching can be painted red from what I’ve read and I’m not sure the supercharger cooling stuff would make that big of a difference for someone who is not tracking it. Front camera would be nice but not a huge deal for me either. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
If you aren’t tracking the car, then no. The other differences are more personal preference and if you’re OK without them, then you can save the money and get a 2015 instead! You’re gonna love the car either way!!
@@HorsePowerObsessed it’s a tough pill to swallow these 2017’s and up are selling 85k and up. Market seems high. I like the idea of it being 2 years newer and love the features just not sure I would ever be able to get my money back out of it if I wanted to. Market may go back down quick in a hurry. Paying almost what they were retail in 2017 is a tough pill to swallow. What’s your opinion on waiting for them to drop versus they may be worth close to what they were retail for many more years? Thanks for the feedback it’s much appreciated. Also the 2015 I found doesn’t add up with the car fax report I did which makes me Leary of it.
Excellent video. It answered all my questions. Liked and subscribed. Hopefully I’ll be able to send you a picture of a C7 z06 soon. I already started seen price drops in my are, seems many are looking to “upgrade “
Awesome video, it’s has me thinking about putting this deposit I have ready for the new C8 instead on a ‘17 or ‘18 Z06 automatic low miles... it’s going to be must first Vette I still like the C7 a lot
You can just make your stitches red yourself... it takes about an hour to do the entire interior. plenty of forum posts on it.. red clothe dye pen... color will stick on the stitching, but not on the leather.
Thanks, man! I love the C7 lineup! You can check out the phone holder in more detail in my install video here: th-cam.com/video/-kw6c5VzGP8/w-d-xo.html
If I don’t plan to track the car at all should I worry about the overheating issues ? I want to buy a 2015 zo6 since it’s the most depreciated I don’t care abt the other little extras the 17 has , just concerned abt the heating issues
Good video, very informative. So do the autos still have a heating problem in the 17's? Also, do the autos have the torque converter issues in the 17's like they have in the 15's and 16's?
Short answer is yes to both. You'll only see the overheating issue when pushed hard at the track. The car has NEVER overheated on the street. The transmission issue is still there throughout all the years of 8 speed autos. 😕
What is the best Z06 C6 I'm not a big fan of supercharger I plan on driving it daily in the summer I've heard horror stories about the LS7 valve problems is there any good year LS7 engine?
Thank you for this very informative video. Could you please spell out the what level of the 2017 ZO6 that I should look for with all the goodies you recommend. Thank you in advance for your help.
Absolutely! I would personally recommend the 3lz Z07 packaged car with the competition seats and carbon fiber dash insert. That's basically the spec I have and I love it! Let me know if you have any other questions! 😊
Best review ever! I thought there would be more differences in the 5 years. I am really considering this over a hellcat as I’m about to trade in my new 392 Charger Daytona!! I don’t care about the performance of the new C8. That design is so ugly either way! I really like the ZR1 but still prefer the rounder looks of the z06. Is there anyway to install that new ZR1 spoiler properly on a z06?? I know they actually bolt to the chassis, but wondering if it can be done properly??Thanks so much brother, amazing content!!!
GSUnit21 -I’d do the Vette. Everyone knows a Vette. Onetime my brand new camaro was next to my brother’s used Corvette at a party. I was upstaged and Ignored......Vette all the way.
Thank you! The car is so close to perfect there really isn't much they need to change but honestly those 3 things are pretty big, in my opinion! 👍 I'd definitely go with the Vette, myself!
Totally agree! I used to have a ZL1 Camaro and I was constantly getting overlooked at car shows, etc. The Vettes have such an exotic appearance that they actually upstage supercars at some of my local car meets! 👍
William Conrad I really appreciate your opinion bro I’m having a hard time with this LOL! I really like the Dodges because of the bigger wheels and the car itself is so big, but might be time!!

I guess you are unaware of the fact that every 2017 Z06 built has a calibration issue and the car goes into reduced engine power at 165 mph. P0106 code will pop up. GM has the fix (thanks to working with me), but will only re-calibrate the car if the code registers. May not be an issue for most but as a Corvette owner, I paid for a car to hit 190.

Yeah definitely not normal. GM said there had never been a documented case of the manual overheating. Likely an issue with his cooling system somehow.
My thoughts exactly, Ryan! 👍👍
I still have my A8, 15’ 3LZ. Only 17k miles. Never overheated because I don’t track it. If I ever got another one I would grab a low miles 17-19’ A8.
Agreed. Carbon ceramic rotors are such an amazing part to the car. The ZERO brake dust they create is worth it alone!
@@HorsePowerObsessed exactly. And they look awesome lol.
Thanks, John! I would definitely take a C6 ZR1! 👍👍
Great info! Hopefully in the next few years I’ll find the low mileage ‘17 Z06 for me.
Thanks! Definitely worth it!
Thanks! :)
Yes, if it’s a 19 (regardless of when it was actually produced) you’re good to go!
Great video Justin! Lots of great information.
Thank you!
Finally got a '22 C8.R Edition and I don't like it, so looking to trade for a '17-'19 manual Z06. This was super helpful, thanks!
looks so much better with the coil covers off/just blak plastic..i removved the coils n spraypainted them-red/vht paint!!
I love your videos! They are well made and awe always learn something interesting. Also, there is no loud stupid background music! 👍
Thank you!
I want one of these !!!!!!!!! 2017 it is !!!!! I’m a Shelby owner and still researching the z06 I want !!! I def want the z07 package !!!!!
That's definitely what I would go for!
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks for the review !!!!!
I got a 16 last year with 4k miles on it. Paid alittle more then o wanted but i completely love it

How much was it?
Just purchased a 2017 m7 z06 6500 miles original owner 1lz comp seats suede package kooks long tube and x pipe in watkins glen metallic and 💘 it!
Very nice! Great cars! You'll love it even more the more you drive it!
@@HorsePowerObsessed your video helped with my choice, so thank you. Living in scorching Arizona I knew I wanted a 2017 m7
You are very welcome! This is the main reason why I started this channel. I really just wanted to help share the knowledge of car trims and options since some of them can get pretty confusing! I'm happy to hear it's working 😁👍
Great Vlog Justin. This would be the video to watch if your looking for s pre owned Z06!
Thanks, Ryan! I was trying to help out a few subscribers with this video. I had this question come up a few times!
Great video, will definitely keep in mind will looking for my Z. Will be checking out your other videos!
Thank you!
19 z06 had the upgraded zr1 fuel pump
Correct.
Good info 👍 I added the 2017 lid I like it even without the hp gain just like the look 👀 😃
Thank you! I agree the lid looks pretty cool but that tiny added horsepower isn't bad either! 😊
Really good info. Thank you for this video! I was wondering which Z06 was a better choice the last few years... 👍👍👍
You're welcome!
Sweet car great colour it looks amazing “save the manuals !!!”
Thank you! 👍👍👍
Z06 19's added ZR1 diff, ZR1 fuel pump, MRC update, and 0-40 ESP oil
The oil is retroactive to any one of the C7s. The magnetic ride control update can be added to any one of them as well. Does ZR1 differential and fuel pump is pretty nice though! 👍
So 2017 is the best for many reasons. That's good info as an option to the new C8 if it doesn't get good reviews... Will go with a 2017 ZO6.
Definitely an amazing car!
Hope all is well. You should set up a meet for your Tri-State subscribers. I am in Northwest Jersey. I think it would be cool to roll out on a caravan through the roads of PA.
Very good idea! I may just do that! 👍👍
Appreciate the video. Definitely made me think about holding back on purchasing a 15 i found.
Glad I could help!
Great video brother. beautiful z...didn't know the 17 and up had a 10 hp gain with the bigger SC lid.
Thanks, man!
Show me reliability of the vehicle, and what goes wrong with it as well !! Need more content on that !! Please
Enjoy your postings. Just subscribed. Where in PA. Have a '17 GS Conv in NEPA. Looking at a couple of '16 Zs A8. Do not track so would work for me. The Bigger lid was a great tip! Thanks.

I have torch red 17 manual shift. Yes he’s right ,17 made some changes.
Thank you for the information, very helpful.
You're welcome! 👍👍
Great vlog Justin! Great delivery and very informative! Think I’ll go put some more miles on my 17 ZO6!
Thank you! Definitely enjoy that car! 👍👍
Awesome info brother I’m looking to purchase a c7z06 switching up from my c5z. Now I know exactly what to look for
I own a 2016 Z51 automatic.
Thank you! I think the C8 will be pretty amazing. I'm waiting until the reveal date to make my final judgment but I'm sure GM won't let us down! 👍👍
Great work with the channel. Amazing how much goes into making these videos isn't it? But it's fun!
It definitely is! These are all things I'm going to be doing anyway so I might as well record myself doing it! 😁👍
Great content. I have a Laguna blue Z06 2016. Love my car. Wish it had color choice in seat belts.
Thank you! When the consumer gets the choice everyone wins.
Nice video you answered a couple questions about ZO6 s I had thanks
Happy to help!
Excellent perspective. I greatly appreciate this!!
Thank you! 😊
But watching you video gave a little peace of mind...lol
Kerp up the work with the videos!
Then you! Feel free to send me some pictures of that car you have! 👍👍
That info what I was looking for in every video , thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
MAAAAAAAN you're living my dream
It's definitely something else! It's an amazing car!
Get a red fabric dye pen and take about one hour and red stitching. I have not done it but have talked to serval who have and was told it worked great
Yeah I think it will work well but how well will it hold up? That's my main concern.
That I don’t know you can check on the forum that’s where I was told about it.
@@duaneclark3539 Yeah I've watched that thread for a while on there and someone noted that sitting in the sun faded the dye which is what I am afraid of.
Great video dude !! I’m looking at getting a 2015 z06 but I guess 2017 is my new pick
Thank you! I'd definitely go for the 17 if you can swing it.
You’re welcome ! I just found your Chanel and subbed. Amazing car your car is the exact one I want. Thanks for the reply keep up the great videos !
Thanks! I definitely will!
New sub and seriously thinking about buying my first corvette
Thanks for the support, man! Definitely get the Vette!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Would you rather get a c8 Z51 stingray or c7 Z06 automatic?
C8 if autos all around. C7 if it’s a manual.
Man that car is sick
Thank you! 😊
for sure the sweet spot
Definitely! 👍👍
You mentioned a front end camera with the 2017 ZO-6. I have a '15 and I really need a front camera.
Can you let us know how to get one.
Thanks, George
Unfortunately, aftermarket seems to be the only option.
Excellent video. It answered all my questions. Liked and subscribed. Hopefully I’ll be able to send you a picture of a C7 z06 soon. I already started seen price drops in my are, seems many are looking to “upgrade “

Buckle plug in a Z06... Nice car. Stay safe.
Good eye! I only put those in during these kind of videos so it doesn't pop up while I'm talking in the car or anything like that.
Awesome video, it’s has me thinking about putting this deposit I have ready for the new C8 instead on a ‘17 or ‘18 Z06 automatic low miles... it’s going to be must first Vette I still like the C7 a lot
Thank you! The C7 is such an amazing platform. You really can't go wrong with any of the lineup!
You can just make your stitches red yourself... it takes about an hour to do the entire interior. plenty of forum posts on it.. red clothe dye pen... color will stick on the stitching, but not on the leather.
I've seen that but I am unsure of long term durability.
The 15’ Z06 was available with red stitching.. My son’s 15’ 2LZ has adrenaline red interior with red stitching..
Correct… not with black, though as I was demonstrating in this video.
You’re Z06 is dope man! Soon I’ll be purchasing a Z51 but I will be modding it’s so it can look like a Z06 😂 But where did you get that phone stand?

Yes sir! Sadly, it still wasn't enough...
If I don’t plan to track the car at all should I worry about the overheating issues ? I want to buy a 2015 zo6 since it’s the most depreciated I don’t care abt the other little extras the 17 has , just concerned abt the heating issues
No. If you don't track the car it will never ever heat.
Great video 😎👍🏾💯🔥....looking to get a 2017 c7Zo6 myself
Thank you!
Kept waiting to see some baseball clips!
What do you mean?
What is the best Z06 C6 I'm not a big fan of supercharger I plan on driving it daily in the summer I've heard horror stories about the LS7 valve problems is there any good year LS7 engine?
This was specifically for the C7 but to answer your question about the C6, no. From what I understand all years were affected.
What's your opinion on using non ethanol premium gas? Is it better for the engine or would it have an opposite effect? Thanks, David
From what I've read the cars nowadays are designed to specifically look for ~10% ethanol so it would likely be a waste if you got gas with no ethanol.
Great advices! I’m currently running a C6 ZR1 on trackdays, still wondering whether or not should I trade in for a 19 C7 Z06 with Z07 Pkg :)
Very nice! Can't go wrong either way!
The automatics have (not had) an issue with overheating.
Correct! 👍
That's exactly what is being said here as well.
So, is there a heat problem with the 2017 autos? Should I be concerned?
The autos have an issue with overheating even pushed hard at the track. If you never track the car you'll never see the issue. 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed what do you mean by track the car quarter mile runs. Road Track the car. What about hard Street driving.
No hard street driving will not be at issue with either model. 👍
@@ue7666 Quarter mile will be ok too. Just extended driving at the limit on a road course causes the overheating.
Exactly! 👍👍

Yeah that’s a big help
I guess you are unaware of the fact that every 2017 Z06 built has a calibration issue and the car goes into reduced engine power at 165 mph. P0106 code will pop up. GM has the fix (thanks to working with me), but will only re-calibrate the car if the code registers. May not be an issue for most but as a Corvette owner, I paid for a car to hit 190.
Yup. Well aware but it's an easy fix. 👍
