this is a gizz classic but i can see why newer fans don't get it. a lot of their older songs were super repetitive, that was just their style and why they always got stuck in peoples head haha and it was sick to see them play in the middle of robot stop back in 2016!
Trust me, you're not gonna hear any complaints from me saying that their live versions made 10 years after the studio album are better. They're just more skilled musicians, more skilled performers, more skilled composers, everything. Plus, it took them until well after Nonagon to take high quality mixing and mastering seriously. It's kind of a miracle that Polygondwanaland and Sketches of Brunswick East sound so clear relative to Flying Microtonal Banana and Nonagon Infinity.
I absolutely LOVE the next track. I bet you’ll like it. It’s more jammy but it’s the fastest song on the album. If I would ever choose a song to play for someone who knows nothing about gizz it would be Am I in Heaven?
this video was super fun, dude... great work!! don't apologize for liking what you like, we all love everything King Gizz, just we all like different parts more than others. I'm sure you're going to love the next one.. it's my favorite Gizz song and that's saying a lot from a band with so much amazing music
This track, like a lot of King Gizzard tracks (especially Joey’s), has a definite influence from the German band NEU! and the 70’s krautrock scene. Repetition played a big role in the music of that scene and I think explains some of the more repetitive musical elements in King Gizzard. I love those bands, so I’m all for it, but I get why people might not be on board with a lot of repetition in their music.
I'll be honest, the Joe Walker bit was the whole reason I recommended this live version, other than the fact that it's really good. And yes, the Rimlicker thing is a joke. Love this song, studio version is chill, live versions are great. Also, you should relisten to Robot Stop from Nonagon Infinity. Next up is the possible best singular track on the album, Am I In Heaven?. In my opinion, I think the drums in the studio version are a bit too loud and the guitars aren't loud enough. Though the studio version does have an element that I'm pretty sure isn't really in the live versions. I don't know. In any case, hope you enjoy. Joe Walker.
The "DJ scratch" flute technique you mentioned is called flutter-tonguing (and no that's not a joke like Rimlicker :P) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flutter-tonguing Joey Walker is more powerful than the Gizzverse, especially as his alter-ego Walky Jake. Cracked me up man, but you were just busy vibin with the music, your brain's too busy with that to think Joe Walker = Joey haha!
For me they are nothing alike. I love Trapdoor but I find Hot Water (album version) a bit boring. The only similarity that stands out to me is the flute.
@@cacojugon they have very similar melodies and are both repetitive. Not saying they’re identical but they’re definitely similar and played into each other live very often cause of that.
Clearly time for you to watch "Guitar with 'Walkey Jake' EP 1" on the official King Gizz youtube channel.
WALKY JAKE!!!
"Joe Walker, wrote this song.."
They were totally making the Rimlicker farms joke tongue in cheek, a few people in the crowd caught it 😆
I think you mean tongue in ass
The riff from Hot Water is used again in Robot Stop around the 4 minute mark! Check it out!
I think of Hot Water live as the Robot Stop jam
Joey's last name is Walker LMFAO
Robot Stop transition to Hot Water is priceless. Check the opening of the Bonaroo set.
That whole bonaroo set is kick ass, especially love the intro to Robot Stop though
still my favourite live concert start to finish.
You not realizing who Joey Walker is while Joey was paused on your screen had my dying 😂

Joe walker is Joey, that's why Ambrose was filling in the joe walker chant with "wrote this song"
i love how silly they get during the lives lol everybody truly is joey walker

Joe Walker is JOEY! hahah
Next song is a real fan favourite (along with the last song) - and it’s universally seen as quintessential Gizz so will be fun to see you react.

Band members are. Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh
Just for completeness, Cookie's real first name is Nicholas.
I respect it

Could it be big fig wasp on the flute at around 19:40 ??
I think you're right
Yeah sounds like it to me - I think he picked it up too
AAAAAAAAAM IIIIIIIII INNNNNNN HEAVENNNNNNN
you’ll enjoy the hell outta the next track i guarantee it
The next song, maybe my favorite song of all time
You may feel dumb, but that was funny as fuck 😂
😂glad to entertain
some of their live jams sound so much like the grateful dead, since they entered this jam band-ish phase.

I'm in Your Mind is 100% a better album live
Trapdoor is very similar to hot water, and my gf hates the repetition lmao

Gonna keep harassing you until you announce you’ve bought a ticket to their tour
