Really love how the story dives into the cultural and technological misunderstandings between species! The twist about humanity using sonar as a ‘primitive WMD’ had me cracking up-classic humans stumbling into intergalactic drama! Also, the squid royalty’s obsession with decorum and chromatic displays is such a smart detail. Props to the writer for blending humor and high-stakes diplomacy so seamlessly. Can’t wait to see if the ‘Cuttlefish’ ever get their revenge!
I do like the variation of this one, with aquatic species as the first contact, and doing so after humans discovered FTL, which if any species are out there will likely be when any contact happens due to the sheer size of the galaxy itself much less the universe. I like these "pre/early contact" stories.
Well, yeah, cuttlefish are the ones who use their chromatophores to communicate. That makes sense. Also, I'm pretty sure the scientists didn't mutiny, the humans just used that excuse to cover up their accidental attack on the cuttlefish. If you fuck up, just throw someone under the bus so you can open a dialogue on the premise that you've already remedied the offense.
I mean...do you know just how AGGRESSIVE sonar is?! Active sonar(what is described in this video) is enough to cause barotrauma-similar injuries to fish. Active sonar is to fish what constant artillery fire is to soldiers. Artillery fire will rock your bones and if close enough, could cause severe concussive damage. Of course the ichthy-xeno species will be massively affected.
So they are an aquatic species? I was confused because Aether was a term used to describe space in the past. That was a good way to build intrigue. I need a sequel!
@Amelia_Scp_and_Halo_fan sort of 🤣. But since both parties got what they actually wanted, relative to their own interests, and that both placed different valuation on certain elements, I'd say both sides actually won.
A pure aquatic species would have issues developing metallic technology, but that probably won’t stop the octopus from waging war on us at some point. 😂
Besides the whole sonar problem, the trade agreement seemed rather fair, iron for silver, if the Empire had an abundance of silver similar to Earth having an abundance of iron, then it wouldn't have been a problem.
Makes sense that a fully acquired species would view iron as a "rare element" It is likely that there are many iron compounds available on their planet, but elemental iron... That would be difficult.
All things considered exchanges of an item of abundance for a scarcity is what trading is founded on. Probably got some respect from the more business minded species. Humans become the steel barons of the galaxy as the only species capable of inhabiting the iron dense worlds for mining and processing as the best processing techniques require to be done in anti-aether. That itself could make a whole story.
just wait till they hear about mega forges. giant hammers working with some much pressure that they crush metal into the shape they want it to be my sheer force. making complex component structures in one go.
Dude this story is hilarious these aliens are having an existential crisis believing in that they're under attack in half of their ship has been irreversibly damaged meanwhile I Can only imagine the humans on the surface essentially just flashing the light on and off in their Direction going yeah I heard a bang on the radar
ive been going through your archives and comparing to other channels, and you are all doing this shit right. Though there is one major issue that is driving me and my coworkers nuts: your video titles. there are more than likely many viewers that want to know where their favorite arcs are. the universe with kimiki and frairan, the alfeim saga, Lead Dealer, etc... put the name of the writer in the title perhaps and consult with them on a proper name for their work, a way of keeping track. clickbait isnt going to keep getting you farther for long. it will taper off like the AI voice channels have experienced. a much smaller issue we have that has an easy solution is the visuals. theres a channel called Neuro Viz that has had some surprising success with AI generation for visuals that are astonishingly consistent. they may be able to help you with your visuals which at this point are usually inconsistent and dreamscapy enough for me to just alt tab to my desktop and let the audio play while i cook or do chores. though it makes for a great drinking game when coworkers are over for whenever some characteristic of a character changes. so much drunken vomiting last weekend... dont get me wrong. i like what you are doing and that you are fostering relationships with the writers and voice actors. keep that shit up. its what keeps me coming back. polishing the rest will gain a larger audience and more money for you and the writers if you deign it worth the expenditure.
They just wanted some iron !! Haha that the funniest part of this story our blood and tools are simply made from the stuff (our core is mostly iron but don’t tell them that )
It's funny, but it makes sense that iron - Atom 26 - would be rare to the squids. As an aquatic species, they wouldn't be likely to come across much in its elemental state, and refining it would take a volcano or bioengineering something to process it through digestion.
So according to this story line one brave person abord a ship traveling to a war front dispatched by an explosion leaves behind a "bastard"??? This young person having nothing to do with the fore2distant war shoul3be labled a bastard? NO!!!!!
Ok, the humans in the story really missed the mark. I mean come on they call themselves and refer to themselves as “squid“ and yet the humans annoyingly refer to them as “Cuttlefish”. Leave it to humans to start referring to other species in the most racist/speciest manner possible.
To ewryone who tink that Monachs treat the lower clases like resources, you are just dum if this wuld be true than Monachism wuld not have stud a milemium.

Detecting multiple leviathan class lifeforms in the region. Are you certain whatever you're doing is worth it?
Not again bro, this is the third time this week I’ve had to deal with them
"I hope those are just whales."
"Pardon me human. Hope?"
"We haven't fully explored our oceans."
"Worth it? We're simply to stubborn to not try, you should see what our rich idiots like to get involved with."

You are the best captain on the planet. I'm not even squidding.

We paid them in Iron. They paid us in cobalt. Scarcity creates interesting trade.
They paid in silver (47), cobalt is 27.
28:54 "Warning, multiple leviathan class lifeforms detected."
i read that in the subnautica computer voice.
"Are you sure whatever you're doing is worth it?"

Shit even sonar pings from submarines can be fatal or extremely destructive to humans under water
So they are an aquatic species? I was confused because Aether was a term used to describe space in the past. That was a good way to build intrigue. I need a sequel!
In this story, Aether for them is what we call water.
For the record. Element 26 is iron.
My dumbass thought it was gold until I double checked a periodic table
Yeah 😂. Basically, the cheapest thing we could trade 😂
And 47 is silver (gold is 79).
So... they got scammed.
@Amelia_Scp_and_Halo_fan sort of 🤣. But since both parties got what they actually wanted, relative to their own interests, and that both placed different valuation on certain elements, I'd say both sides actually won.
Well, as first contacts go, that was almost a.... wipe out. LOL 😆

HEY THE LEGENDARY STARBOUND NARRATOR IS BACK!!
make your own Starbound HFY Universe with Frairen and the other species and do a weekly episode!
I miss Rimiki & Co.
I think by- weekly is a better schedule because it keeps the tension on high alert
A pure aquatic species would have issues developing metallic technology, but that probably won’t stop the octopus from waging war on us at some point. 😂
I was right! I suspected them of being cuttlefish about 10 minutes in. Great story and this would make a great series to expand on
Well the nuclear depth charges may be difficult to explain;)
The Lazer turrets might be seen as overkill for an anti missile system.
Also uh
Torpedos exist
Besides the whole sonar problem, the trade agreement seemed rather fair, iron for silver, if the Empire had an abundance of silver similar to Earth having an abundance of iron, then it wouldn't have been a problem.
Honestly ya. And if it's easier for humans to mine one, why not trade for it?
I think the issue was more about using the silver for making acoustic "weapons" and using them as sensor systems
I was waiting for a giant squid or a wale to attack them 😂
28:47 "Detecting multiple leviathan-class lifeforms in the region? Are you certain that whatever you're doing is worth it?"
So either they don't mine asteroids, or most of their solar systems have little iron. 26 is iron, 47 is silver.
This was a very good story fr, I need another part of this.
giving Iron, receiving Silver, nice
Wait... what?
So they were trading Iron for Silver?
Wouldve been funnier if it was gold, then we could say that at least one AU of humanity turned iron into gold.
27 is cobalt.
@@badbob1066 Correct
Pretty much!
@@badbob1066 47 is silver and 26 is iron. They traded 47 not 27, so he had it right that they gave humans silver and got iron in return
34:10 I belive atom-26 refers to "iron".

9 mins good job TH-cam and starbound
Great reading.
we need more frairen
When is the next story!!!
Patience. Let them space them out. We don't want them to get old and tiresome. As long as it's not _too_ long, of course.
@@TheOriginalJphyper You are right let me go and get something to drink in my cantinaster.
@@kinologan5074 to go with your pizza
@silverbird425 yeah deep dish Chicago style pizza.
I'd love to see this story continued!
You thought Earth is big?
Ha! Go look at the plants we discovered. It's bigger than our home.
The Super-Earths are madly cool. Really wish we could've looked upon the surface
Man this one was a good one, it was smart and rich in culture, I hope there's more, it ended without much
Aww yeah!
Smaller planets seem to have trouble holding their atmosphere. Might be possible with a good magnetic field and a cooler star.
When will Miss Rimiki and Frieren meet the cuddle fish? I mean cuddly squids. Not sushi. Yeah.

Well done. One the best HFY I've seen,.
HFY is my favorite genre of sci-fi
Element 26 is iron. Element 47 is silver.
Atomic. Number 26 assuming there table is similer to ours is iron
@13:00 the closed caption keeps blocking the view of that blue alien booty. 😂

This is how the Cuttlefish do...
Speaking of Leviathans... If the aliens think WE are a large species, consider how immensely vast they'd think Planet 4546B's Leviathans are.
Good story, but Earth is the third planet from the Sun, not the second. That's Venus.
You noticed the part where they stated the planet isn't earth right
Great story, so when do the humans wipe them out over the disagreement? lol

Huh! Not bad. Thanks.
The issue i have is that scientists mutined against the military. Thats unfortunately unbelievable
Atom 26 is Iron, 47 is silver, FYI to all those non aether species in the comment section.
