I’m an old dude, I bought the 2015 RX 350 FSport in 2015, a mistake (my opinion and personal experience) jittery stiff choppy ride, driver’s seat too narrow to accommodate my fat back, felt like something was always pinching me. Let that go, fast forward to 2022 bought a regular RX 350 (certified premium) wow! just wonderful! smooth comfortable seats and ride, good isolation from tire noise and the unbeatable Lexus reliability, loved so much I got another 2022 (certified luxury) for my wife, as these are the last vehicles I will ever owned, I’m elated with my purchases, oh, and they run on 87 octane gasoline, 2022 models V6 engines, the last of the finest, I was very lucky to get them with ultra low miles, thank you for reading my rambling thoughts, 🍻 Salud!
If you think the RX seat is good, you will be shocked when you drive a Volvo XC90 or XC60. I upgraded my RX 350 in 2016 to Volvo XC90 and never called my Chiropractor again. With Bowers Wilkins sound system, it feels like you are in the most comfortable chair in a symphony hall. Please test drive one and you know what I mean.
I bought the 2022 specifically because I preferred the V6 over a V4 turbo. With the V4 turbo you only gain 1 mpg plus you must use premium gas which on average is an additional $15 per fill-up. I am Happy with my V6!
If you drive a Lexus, you can't complain about premium gas. With premium gas, you get better performance (more horsepower) and better mpg. I have a 2019 Lexus RX 450h F Sport, and I buy 93 only.
The elimination of the V6 in the 2023 models is disappointing to me. I owned three RX’s since 2001. The RX 300 (front wheel drive) lasted 15 years 263k miles with only one major issue, the transmission failed and it was replaced @ 190k miles. The 2008 was destroyed in an accident in 2017 caused by an red light running driver coming from the opposite direction. My 2017 RX 350 is running great after 52k miles. One thing in common is the comfort level, fuel economy, and durability of the LEXUS (Toyota) brands. However I will test drive the 2023 mode. Planning to keep my Lexus and 2019 Toyota RAV 4 for many years. Thanks for keeping us updated!
We just bought a 2022 RX350 F Sport with only 9600 miles and absolutely love it! I actually like the front grill and overall lines. It looks great on the stock F-Sport wheels. They did a great job. The interior looks even better in person. I think it strikes a great balance of being modern, elegant, and practical. I don't see it lacking in any tech. Ours has heads up display, 360 view camera, apple car play, heated wheel, heated seats, cooled seats, panoramic roof, an awesome Mark Levinson system, the display is a large 12.3" and the touch screen is pretty convenient to get to for me, tons of info on the cluster gauge, and I LOVE the F-Sport gauge and how it changes in sport mode...I don't feel like this car is missing any tech. Plus you get the simplicity of direct buttons for climate control, or heated/cooled seats. You don't have to always go through the screen. Sometimes too much tech for the sake of claiming tech is not good. There's plenty of tech in this generation, what more do you need? The only thing I wish it had was heated/cooled rear seats, and more pronounced ambient light that could change colors. Other than that, you're not missing anything. The V6 is great and has more than enough power. The interior is high quality and the seats are great, this is a buttery smooth cruising machine. Ours still has that new car smell and it really does smell nice.
Get the V6. Smooth, reliable, quiet and the best part that everyone seems to forget: it runs on regular 87 octane gas. That new 4-banger will need premium since it's the same engine in the new NX 350 which also needs premium. So the 4-banger will be less reliable, noisier, less refined, 30 less HP, and will cost more in fuel to run. WTF is Toyota/Lexus thinking??
@@Parker-di7ef Maybe that I why I find myself liking older cars more. Personally I think it would be a good plan to get the v6 and wait for a full electric or non gas car of the future.
The newer turbo 4 has a lot more torque available earlier which should help the transmission from gear hunting as often. Besides that though, I do prefer the v6 in terms of maintainance and the ability to be fine using 87 gas. Thank CARB and the EPA for making new cars suck.
I'm a new 2022 RX owner with the V6. Appreciate the video, it helped us decide from a Ford Limited SUV to the Lexus RX. The overall quality of this product from powertrain, trim fit, and driving experience is outstanding. The lane assist software holds you in the center versus bouncing from side to side like others. Well done!
@@manofsesame3024 Agreed, however I've received service knowledge that not all lane assist software and lasers have the same quality, therefore as our family have experienced, you can bounce from one side to another, or enjoy the drive of a vehicle maintaining a centered position.
@@jeffshaw9472 interesting indeed. I had a 2018 RX fully loaded, and LKA and Dynamic Cruise Control had issues with lane centering, although it was decent with tracking when you drifted out of lanes. Now I have a 2022 RX fully loaded, and LKA and DCC still same.. marginally better.
I have the new 2022 NX 450H+. LOVE IT!! There is NO problem with acceleration in passing lane nor on the long uphill grade of the Cajon Pass in SoCal. Punch it and it goes! When I test drove the NX before purchasing it the getup-and-go quick acceleration was the first thing I tried. I was totally surprised by how well it performed considering it is “ONLY” a 4-cylinder gasoline engine. I expected it to be a slug. Believe me IT IS NOT! Also, there are “Sport” and “Sport +” options for transmission selection. Those options give even more “poop.” If you are wanting to take on a BMW M6 from the red light, don’t bother! This is definitely a race car. I love this car! It does exactly what I want it to. Cornering, acceleration and braking are excellent - exactly what one would expect from Lexus. Oh, and BTW, I traded in an RX350 for this new NX 450H+ plug-in hybrid…mostly because the RX would never pass a gas station! I was sick of the inconvenience of having to gas-up every time I wanted to take an hour’s drive away from home. I bought the NX a little over a month ago, and I haven’t put a drop of gas in it since the dealer filled it up at purchase time. The gas gauge says I have 194 miles left in the tank. I have put 565 miles on it. My concern, AMD, is that the new RX350 will be under powered if they are going to the same engine as the NX - or something like it. The RX is a bigger heavier car. @@lindyloulie80 I went for multiple test drives - Highlander hybrid 2022 ( 2.5), Rav4 2022 Hybrid ( 2.5), RX450h 2022, NX350h 2022 - all to be purchased brand new. My thoughts : 1. Highlander - sluggish, underpowered, boaty on corners, good interior and versatility, bad infotainment. 40 MPG 2. Rav4 - light, nimble, cheap inside, very roomy, pleasant to drive, bad infotainment . 54 MPG 3. RX450h - luxury, smooth, effortless , thirsty, great quiet engine rumble, outdated as tech as well. 30 MPG 4. NX350h - good blend of light but still solid, good combined power, great infotainment, pleasant interior and exterior. 45MPG I based on MPG and running costs ( insurance, service costs) , I ordered NX350h F sport. Prices with discontinued and heavily discounted RX450h Sport premium edition are almost the same ( with less than 5% difference).
My wife picked up a 2022 RX450h in December and it's been a pleasure to drive. Did an 8 hour trip to Colorado without issue and the creature comforts are wonderful. I enjoy the V6 over a 4 cylinder and the ride is so smooth that you know where some of that cost of the price went. The insulation and sound dampening is superb. I highly recommend the Mark Levinson speaker system if you're in the market.
Man it breaks my heart that Lexus is getting rid of the RX V6. I get the feeling that the new RX 4 cylinder is going to feel similar to a RAV4 four cylinder which lacks power in a lot of circumstances. The RX is definitely going to lose that available refine power curve it currently has with its V6 😔 This is terrible

Also like the sloped rear window. It is just a trademark of a RX and helps distinguish it from other bland SUV's. I also like how the rear wiper integrates into the rear spoiler at the top of the tailgate so that is is not strained and keeps working! Reliable!
I have a V6 Rav4 and agree with the comments to go with the older model. The 3.5 is legendary and arguably deserves to be in the hall of fame along with the LS and RB26.
LEXUS is the KING of luxury, fit and finish and reliability ! My 2002 ES 300 just turned 170k miles and w new struts it rides so smooth, interior finish and quality is unparalleled. It’s quiet like a vault and still tight. Not one creek or rattle. Everything still works every button and switch. The amount of insulation they used 20 years ago is incredible. I’ve got people on TH-cam who commented that it’s just an expensive Camry. Not even close. There is more luxury items, Real walnut interior and insulation. My ES300 feels like it just drove off the showroom floor with 170,000 miles !
MY 2022 RX 450H feels cheaper inside than my 2013 RX 450H. Replaced the walnut with plastic!! Took off most of the chrome on the outside. More and newer tech but cheaper materials. Steering takes a much lighter touch though.

I will say that I am worried about the trend of dropping bigger displacement engines for 4 cylinders and hybrids. I've made 38000km since March 2023 and it's an excellent GT, comfortable both for the driver and the passengers, packing a good amount of torque and dynamic enough for my needs. I had an opportunity to try the new 2024 4 cylinders turbo and everything is down in term of quality and finishing, Lexus did cut too many corners with this new one and it's painful when compared with my 2022; The V6 on mine is always discreetly available and always keen to wake up one or two additional cylinders, meanwhile the new flat-4 is whistling in pain whenever you touch it, it's not nice. I also hate the new button-less interactive setup on the new one, mine has real buttons clicking and rotating and it's the natural way for me to intuitively use a car. So, in my opinion, the 2022 is the ultimate achievement of the RX serie, meanwhile the 2023 is an absolute degenerative product crying for help.
i am glad i got my 2022 rx 350 v6 awd as not a fan of 4 cylinder , this suv is quiet and smooth driving and put only regular gas .just went for the premium package , didn want to waste money on f sport ...
Have you driven the new 2.4T, it’s almost impossible to even test drive till later in the year and the NX I drove was pretty impressive. Obviously going to be different smaller car shorter wheel base width etc. but was impressed

I thunked on the car and it sounded very hollow especially the rx and es I opened the door handles and it sounds hollow.. the interiors especially the door handles is the exact same in the Toyota counterparts.. it just old and outdated even the new ones.. yes it’s “reliable” but so is every other luxury car brand people just don’t like maintenance
I will keep my 2010 RX350 v6 with 158k miles. It's as good as 2022. No payments, maintain it's current value, don't have to worry about getting dings and dent.
I purchased a '21 rx350 new. It is the 3rd one I have owned over the years and the best. Ugly front end, but the rest is exactly what I was looking for. Quiet, comfortable, extremely reliable. Excellent fit and finish with high end materials. I consider the V6 to be highly desirable and predict that the later years of this model, specifically the '21 and '22 years will be sought after in the years ahead for all the reasons I have previously mentioned. My wife has an older NX and I will shortly be upgrading it to a lightly used '21 or '22 year Lexus Certified RX350. These vehicles are keepers in my humble opinion. Hybrids have their place (Toyota/Lexus versions are my choice) but EV's are just not ready for prime time yet. When they stop having all their recalls and battery fires and other issues I may be in the market. I expect that is still several years off.
Non-Lexus owners do not understand that sitting in the driver's seat of a RX "is a personal experience of pampered luxury" that's impossible to find in any other SUV! Shhhh, that's the secret to the best selling luxury SUV in history. Shhhhhhhhhh.
if more people understood how reliable these vehicles are you would never be able to find a used one without a bidding war! We had a 2004 ES330 and that car is so, very reliable. That car was so reliable that after my wife was done with it, let our kids drive it, then we gave it to her parents. Now my wife drives a 2010 RX 350. Quickly approaching 200K miles and we are only thinking of replacing it because she is tired of it. No other reason. We will probably give it to her parents too! Such an incredibly reliable vehicle! Is that the same engine as my 2021 Tacoma???
Any unibody platform isn’t going to have the same v6 as the Tacoma, yours is a 1GR-FE whilst the unibody vehicles such as my 2010 rav4 have variants of the 2GR
I just bought my wife the 2022 RX350 solely for the silky smooth V6. Once I learned the Gen 5 was only coming in a course 4 banger that made up my mind to buy now!
I’m so glad I have two cars with the 3.5 My 2020 Lexus ES, and my wife’s 2018 Highlander. I know the big debate is emissions, but what I don’t understand is why other manufacturers are not going to small displacement motors in their SUV’s. I don’t understand why Toyota is? it has been proven turbos are not more fuel efficient all they offer is more torque. Why would someone pay a premium for a Lexus with a 4 cylinder, and they can go elsewhere for a N/A V6. My opinion I don’t understand why Toyota/Lexus is doing this where is the innovation that Toyota has and just settle with a small turbo.
I was thinking to someday perhaps upgrade my 2008 RX 350 to a 2020, but I think the 2022 RX naturally aspirated is the last of a great model, and I’d set my sights on one of those. Great video as always! 👍🏻
I have the 1999 RX300 with 305,000 miles...absolutely zero problems. I reserved a 2023 but struggling because the V6 engine is everything and am certain I will miss it!!
The Sport/Sport + mode actually makes quite a difference; the suspension is noticeably stiffer and revs higher and actually makes it a more pleasant drive on twisty roads.

Still have my loaded 2016 RX350 (Luxury Pkg) 2GR-FE / 8-speed, with just 50K miles. It's still like new and makes a wonderful road-trip car. Super comfortable, quite & smooth. I think ima keep this one...
My 2015 RX 350 Fsport is the last car I'll ever buy; 88,000 kms on the clock, Krown rustproofed every year, all fluids swapped using severe duty service intervals, do all my own service. Synthetic engine oil, about to swap the cannister engine oil filter for an adapter and spin-on filter unit from Baxter. Run CrossClimate 2 tires which I rotate every 5000 kms. Drive a V6 Accord Coupe in the summer (only), great TH-cam channel, thanks
I purchased my RX350 in July of 2021, it is a 21' model Eminent White, the (ivory) white leather interior, with the Luxury/Premium package. 24,000 problem free miles. I agree with your point that these cars appeal to guys like me that enjoy traveling in comfort and appreciate a dependable car. I am in the group of folks that love the spindle grill, it took awhile to grow on me when they first came out, I prefer the luxury spoke style wheels and the paint treatment over the F Sport model. You are correct that the rear deck takes up space for the sake of styling but I do believe the way they hide the rear wiper up in the roof line to be a great idea. Ihope they do not hurt the brand by taking away the 6, I cannot believe a 4 banger with a turbo will last anywhere near what the 6 will. I am still on the fence about the hybrid, no plugs in for me. I enjoy your channel.

I am so happy a have the last RX V6! I have the 2014 last body design of the original RX with 30k miles. Only drive for long trips. I love my version. It was also the last one made in Japan.
For the large majority of RX buyers the Hybrid is going to be enough power. Smooth and way more fuel efficient. It’s a great change for an SUV focused on smooth, calm driving.
I was going to buy the RX hybrid for my wife but decide to wait and buy the NXhybrid next year. We don’t need a midsize SUV anymore papas kids have grown and the NX is perfect size for her running errands around town. For longer trip we still can use my 2017 ES350, which I plan to after we get the NX for a LC hybrid.
The V6 is smoother than any 4 cylinder. I love the CD slot for old folks! Middle aged folks are covered for streaming but the young are left out. Young hipsters (and a few of us dinosaurs) listen to their music on the 12 inch vinyl record!

I just don't enjoy it like I do at home where it's vinyl, CD, SACD, DVD-A, Bluray, the very rare cassette usually brought by others through a Nakamichi deck, and of course streaming. Streaming comes from bit perfect CD rips, high res downloads, and Qobuz. No 8-track because it sounds like hell and no open reel because there's no room left.

Great coverage and topic to review. I just got my RX 450h L few months back. You hit everything on point. The main reason I chose this specific model rather than waiting for the new model is exactly the V6 engine. This is a practical car. I refrain from going to European brands because I want to be low key (not too flashy and scream luxury) while getting a refined ride quality that I can enjoy. This is a tested and proven engine that soon disappears. RX definitely delivers refined ride quality: plush, quiet, balanced power. What comes below my expectations are the fuel economy (not bad but not as great as I expected it to be), requires premium gas (for hybrid models), low torque from stop and go (I need to really push it deep to accelerate which hurt fuel economy, but works amazing when I push it at higher speeds on the freeways), and lastly the premium audio (the mark levinson setup is good but not as impressive as I expected it to be). For people who would not care much about looks or prestige (read: be seen on fancy and luxury car) but care a lot about quality ride (comfort), this car is a great fit. I enjoyed driving this car across Midwest. Will I consider getting the new model? Hi might with the plug in hybrid, but I’d like to see it tested and proven before I jump the gun. Excellent video! The life cycle of this car is so long that the earlier year models are an exceptional deal to purchase used as it’s a very similar vehicle to the 2022.
Love my 2022 RX. BUT - I get roughly 16 mpg city. I test drove a straight V6 RX 350 with 20” tires (that was made in Japan) and an RX450H with 18” tires (made in Canada). I preferred the feel of the straight V6 and wasn’t crazy about the CVT on the 450H, so I went with the RX 350. Love the car, but the MPG is brutal.
Try replacing the engine air filter if this is a old car your drive and MPG will improve . I assume u drive in eco all the time if not that’s the other change . Mine gives me 19 to 20 mpg without too many long drives . If I hit the highway a lot it’s about 22 mpg

2011 RX450h Owner here I think for my next RX if I ever need one Lexus Reliability and all it will have to be a V6 aswell that engine has just grown on me for the years I have owned it.
Not getting rid of my 2021 Highlander Limited V6 AWD for nothing. Although the Hybrid is very nice I still prefer the V6. Turbo 4 would be my last choice.
After a horrible experience with a Subaru forester .. i have now come back to toyota and have a 2019 rx and it is absolutely beautiful. I went to Pennsylvania with my husband and I was in the passenger seat thinking “man this is such a great car..so comfortable..drives on the roads like it’s nothing.” Such a nice car to take on a short road trip.Ofcourse I’m paying for it . I love it.
I had heard Subaru Forester was also a very dependable car. May I ask what issues you had as my son is considering one since it's inexpensive and all wheel drive.
@@vapeking466 hi. I actually had the 2015 XT which they don’t make anymore. Different engine from the regular foresters. However I had major issues with the check engine light. Multiple O2 sensors failing and a catalytic converter failure at 50,000 miles. The car would jerk during acceleration constantly and was not what I would consider a reliable car and sometimes it would have issues turning over. In the end the dealer told me I had sludge in my engine even though they did all the oil changes at the correct intervals. That was the last straw for me. It was a beast in the show though. Before I bough the Subaru I heard from everyone who owned one they are amazing cars. If you are looking for something to get you home in a snow storm definitely choose a Subaru..just make sure it was taken care of before you buy it. Honestly for snow you can’t get any better. I had multiple 02 sensors fail, catalytic converter failure at 50,000 miles, the car would sometimes have difficulty turning over and some other things as well. It was not what I consider a reliable car but it was very good in the snow. The dealer ended up telling me I had sludge in the engine which blew my mind because they changed my oil every 5,000 miles and never told me that prior. That was the last straw for me as I rely on my car and couldn’t have it sitting at the shop constantly. If you are looking for something to get you home in a snow storm go with the Subaru- just make sure it was taken care of. For all wheel drive you can’t beat a Subaru .
I’ve stumbled upon this video as I’m looking at RX 350s at the moment. My 2018 B9 Q5 has proven expensive to maintain ($7K+ in the last 12 months - engine mounts, water pump, control arms…etc), even pampered - as I do all my cars. I’m a car guy - with middle class means. I’ve watched dozens of car reviews weekly for years. Perhaps a decade actually. Got a 2022 Luxury in Lat Jan. after rumors of the coming changes , now has approx 14,000 mi on it. Did a 5500 mi 18 day trip in Sept. Smooth V6 regular gas, quiet comfort to spare.
I was surprised how good lane assist is!! It’s almost self driving car.. no regrets buying rx350 awd 2020. Have regular automatic transmission. Downside when shifting to reverse or 1st gear “D”. 8/10

I completely agree with you. That is why the wife and I just purchased a 2022 RX350 non F Sport. We need some smooth quiet and reliable engine. It was a tough choice between hybrid vs regular v6 but we opt for the v6. The wife did not like the Highlander’s ugly center screen and for the price Toyota was charging it makes sense to just get the Lexus.
It really is simple. The 4-cylinder can have turbo issues, either supplier issues that require a new engine under warranty or later down the line from normal wear and tear (and bad maintenance and driving habits) when there's no warranty, and the V6 can't.
@@TripleBerg It will be replaced with the Crowne. It will get the 2.5L hybrid or the 2.4L hybrid the RX500h has. Edit: It won't be available as a traditional sedan tho, only this weird shape and they will even lift it and call it a crossover. 🤦 It will still have a trunk and not a hatch mind you, so it's just the worst of both worlds.
Im in the process of trading in my 2004 RX330 for a 2016 RX350 F Sport. Was not planning on this until a few hours ago. The F Sport literally fell into my lap at the dealership I work at. I love the aggressive look of the 2016 compared to the 2004. Say what you will about the grill, I find it more fitting for a man than the 2004 design. EDIT: I planned on keeping the 330 for quite some time but from what I've seen from working in sales for the past year, I don't see an opportunity like this happening again (or at least very often). 52k miles and im getting it at WONDERFUL discount 😁
If you haven't bought the 2016, perhaps consider 2018 or newer for more refinements (engine, suspension per AMD's other videos). Most notable, 2016 RX's infotainment is not 4G or 5G capable (i.e., NO Enform, remote start, remote lock/unlock, SOS, weather, gas buddy, traffic conditions, etc). Those infotainment features stopped working when 3G sunset on 31 OCT 2022. There is NO 4G/5G upgrade or fix to the 2016 RX infotainment system.
20:39.... its a DVD changer for 6 DVD´s (at least in my 2010 model) We use it often on a rest for looking a nice film and enjoy the superb surround sound than !!
AMD, I think a Hybrid powertrain suits the relaxed character of the RX. Today's V6 Hybrid offers good fuel economy and the new 4 cylinder, which is already in use in the Sienna and Highlander, will be even better. In terms of practicality and cargo capacity, we see a pattern with RX, NX and UX. It seems that the luxury upgrade from humble Toyota models comes with a big downgrade in utility as sloping rear glass really diminishes cargo space. Why can't Lexus buyers have luxury and utility? 🤔
fuel efficient yes, but not all what Lexus buyers look for in the first place ! On our fast Autobahn these 4cyl. sucks and their fuel consumption is sometimes worse than a relaxed and smooth V6 !
@@kubanskiloewe very true, a hybrid does well in city driving, not on fast freeway. I plan to buy the NX350H for my wife next year to replace her RX as kids are already grown. We don’t need such as midsize anymore and NX hybrid fits perfectly. Myself I plan to buy he LC Hybrid in a couple of years as well to replace my 2017 ES350.

I own a 2020 GX and have driven RX's as loaners. It's exactly as you say reliable, smooth, and classy. I was impressed with the smoothness of the car and I wonder if the 4 cylinder will make it too buzzy. Might be a good idea to replace my Honda Accord with an RX and add another Lexus to my garage. Was talking with a Toyota master tech last week and he was telling me of the horrific problems they are having with the turbo V6 motors in the Tundra. He’s replaced dozens of turbos, 3 on a single vehicle. He suggested I keep my 2021 Sequoia Platinum and not consider the 2023 Sequoia Capstone. He’s predicting a complete redesign needed for the v6 twin turbo. He said it’s not very Toyota-like and he’s surprised they launched it with so many issues.
That doesnt seem right because they tested the V6 turbo in the LS500 for many years, then they implemented the same design into other cars, so its technically not a new launch, its a tested platform but maybe they just gotta work out a few kinks?
It's not just about the engine the 2022 model will be more polished then the new one, the new one would have a lot of problems that plague any new generation of cars
I completely agree with your assessment of the rear window slope affecting functionality. We recently went on a 1,400 mile road trip and packing the cargo area with our rolling cooler, dog crate and two carry on size suitcases was very cramped. We were unable to close/latch the hatch due to this issue. We ended up having to fold down half of the 2nd row to accommodate the rest of our items. All the being said we love our RX and it is a fantastic road-trip vehicle from a comfort and safety perspective. It just may be something to consider for those who have passengers who will occupy the 2nd row and would need to fit all of their belongings into the rear cargo space.
AMD, this has to be the best and most comprehensive review of a car I have ever seen. Really good job! I think the main point you were trying to convey about what makes Lexus so successful, that being a "very nice place to be", really resonated with me. The next generation is giving up something for the ushering in of the new technology. I'm more of an NX fan, and own two of them, but think the same message applies. I had a choice of buying the new 2022 NX but opted for a low mile 2021 NX300h Luxury instead because it had the creature-comforts I thought were import. Anyway, great job on the review. I have 2 2016 NX200t (one for me, one for the wife) and we love them. Only issue we had was a coolant leak from a faulty pump that was replaced at 77k miles and covered by the warranty. Make sure to change your oil every 5k miles and do the spark plugs at 100k. I also get my services done at toyota because they have just about all of the parts and the labor is so much cheaper. I have 105k miles on mine and the wife has 112k miles on hers. Im looking at possibly upgrading to the RX or GX though because we have 2 dogs and a 1 year old so need a little more space.
I absolutely love the eCVT. Fell in love with it in my 2012 Prius C (still driving 165,000 mi) I bought a hybrid 2023 highlander for it. Driving is so smooth.
I bought the six before they only offered the neutered engine options for heavy vehicles. Small engine passing power makes me want to pass on their whole design.
The 4 turbo is better than the V6 in every way. The V6 has lousy low end torque. The 2.4t will blow it away in a passing maneuver. Maintenance is much easier on the 4.
I have just bought an “old”22 RX450h Luxury here in Germany 😊love this car - it is not the quickest car but perfect seats for me, the Soundsystem is great and 15 Years guarantee here…

Owned a “01 Rx 300 bought used in 2018. Had planned on buying a new car in 2025. Found a “22 rx350 awd certified with all the options I would have wanted, took for a test drive , loved it and bought it so glad I did! Given a “23 as a loaner, couldn’t find a comfortable sitting height, but I’am short. Very nice RX had to check out the pick up so did a heavy petal launch, terrific response. But it consumed a noticeable amount of premium gas. Everything you’ve said about the 22 in your review is right on! Confirmed my purchasing the”22 rx350. This was a great review!! I traded in a bmw x3 on a 2022 RX350. Beautiful car, but I hated the mouse pad and no digital speedometer. There were a few other things but those were the highest annoyances. I traded the RX in on a NX350 and I absolutely love it. It has the upgraded infotainment system which works like a dream. The interior is beautiful too. Do I wish I would have waited and kept the RX longer to see if I could get past the little things? Definitely, but I love the NX too. Lexus makes great cars. Great review as always!
@@jsz2619 yeah, I realize that but I came from the bmw which has a higher mouse and easier to navigate if that makes sense. I would rather use a mouse than constantly clean the screen. I don't remember being able to save artists and songs on xm either, but that is a non issue for most people.

Great info as always. Have a 17 Rx (wife's vehicle - non Fsport) & will definitely miss a V6 model. She loves it as do I. Its smooth, comfortable, very easy to work on for DIY types & like you said, simplistic. Albeit even for my wife who has zero mechanical aptitude, still forgets which button does what (aside from turning the heat/cooling on the seats). I did add the Lexus side running boards myself, very easy to install back then. Two issues; if one is 6'+, drivers headroom can be problem. Like you said about the back hatch slope, one loses cargo room, which forces flipping seats down for items (but I do like the look) The functionality I will miss is the ability to tow. Our has the tow package (good for 5k lbs). Not that I pull a camper or such, but its convenient to hook up a small utility trailer for that large stuff without the pain of renting a vehicle at a home center or rental place.
I have been so pleased with the 2012 RX we have. With the 2023 arrival, I went to the local dealer yesterday. I knew of this video, and had viewed a part of it some months ago. Last night I viewed it in its entirety. Today I purchased a 2021 Certified example that had most every option on it. Important points that were pointed out in this video, and confirmed after reviewing my test drive of the 2023 model again in my mind sold me on staying with the former model. By the way, we are still keeping the 2012 also.
@@BrucifyMe The 2021 is a noticeable improvement vs the 2012 that we still have concerning comfort. I did notice the 4 banger shifting more in the "drive" setting on the tranny. I knew the 4 banger would be working harder than the V6. If in city traffic much of the time, I feel the V6 would be better overall for me. Both engines would be acceptable if one were on the open road most of the time which we are not. I feel there is a lot to be said in a positive way for staying with a 6 speed transmission in general, but better fuel mileage is important for the mfr's today. Now what I really do not like concerning the 2021 vs the 2012 is that if one uses the manual shifting feature on the 2021 one is stuck in the gear one selects and then if one has to decrease speed with the 2021 dropping down to a lower gear in the process on its own, one is stuck in that lower gear. If one wants to have to accelerate to a higher speed quickly, one has to manually shift up the gear range. The 2012 if one does the same will downshift as one deaccelerates, but when one wants to accelerate to a higher speed, the transmission will shift up to the gear previously selected "top" gear previously selected. Why the newer models shift this way makes no sense to me. I have a 2006 Corvette. It is the same as the 2021 in what I just described. I was in a circumstance a couple of years ago where we may have been involved in a serious accident if not being able to have the 2012 downshift on its own when hitting the accelerator pedal. I am probably a bit off from what you are looking for in information. The other factor is that the 4 cyl. is an unproven engine. That also was an important factor in my decision to stay with the V6. Any specific questions, I would be happy to answer for you. I do all my own car work when possible. I have my own lift that I have had now for over 25 years. I am 78 years old now. Have a '78 Honda 750 SuperSport F2 motorcycle that I have to get going again. Like new less than 5K miles on it. Have always enjoyed cars and long trips - like doing the London to Mongolia drive in 2011 what a trip through countries I never thought I would ever visit. Too dangerous now to do. Best, Norbert

That is a really bizarre behavior and one that I do not think many consider at all when purchasing a car. I currently have a 2011 Avalon with the old faithful 6 speed and in its "manual mode" behaves identical to the 2012 Lexus you describe. I cannot even speculate why changes would be made to that behavior - but you are right, as extreme as it may be there are cases where such behavior could lead to, or contribute to the possibility of an accident occurring. Nonetheless, thank you for your detailed response and I hope your 2021 lasts for many years, decades to come.

We recently purchased the ‘22 Lexis RX 450h. We wanted the V6-hybrid model knowing that it will be the last 6 cylinder RX. It’s not as economical as expected but the MPG is a little better than the Highlander 3.5 V6. Thank you for producing your informative videos. They’re very helpful.
What is your real world MPG and what percentage of city/highway driving? I only ask because I’m on my second V6 RX 350. First one was a 2018 non F-Sport V6 and got a “decent” 23 mpg, but my new 2022 V6 RX was F-Sport AWD and now only getting 15 mpg. 😢 I am wondering if I should of gotten the 450H RX instead.
The main thing I liked about moving from a 2005 GS300 to a 2015 RC F was that Lexus didn't change things just for the sake of change. There were many details and controls which were exactly the same, which helped to get used to the car much quicker than expected. Everything was still in the same spot and operated the same way. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. As for "sport mode", blame the market. Everyone wants SUVs for practicality but don't want to give up performance. That's why these SUVs have harder suspension and "sport mode" even though it doesn't really work that well. It's really hard to have your cake and eat it too, but that's what the modern customer wants so they have to put it in.
I was so close to buying this model. The only thing holding me back was the archaic technology. I didn't even mind the touchpad but the screen resolution, navigation and backup camera clarity was just so far behind I couldn't do it. When I heard the 23 was using the new NX technology, I walked away. In the meantime, I found the Genesis GV70 which excels at comfort and technology, at $10K less. Sold.
I'm new to Lexus. RX350 F-Sport and I love her. Love the 350 V6 and am more than happy with the torque and power. Not a fan of horrible, harsh, high reving little turbo 4 cylinder engines in a large heavy SUV. So this will be my last Lexus SUV. Good thing they are so reliable because if a can't get what I want I'll just stick to this one the next 20 or 30 years. Lexus can keep their stingy, mean, little overworked disposable new unrefined 4 cylinder economy car engine.
I complete agree with you. The 2022 RX V6 is the right choice. In family we have an old 2007 RX 400h with 300.000km. Bought new from us, and Toyota/ Lexus service. Still running great! ❤

I’m an old dude, I bought the 2015 RX 350 FSport in 2015, a mistake (my opinion and personal experience) jittery stiff choppy ride, driver’s seat too narrow to accommodate my fat back, felt like something was always pinching me.
Let that go, fast forward to 2022 bought a regular RX 350 (certified premium) wow! just wonderful! smooth comfortable seats and ride, good isolation from tire noise and the unbeatable Lexus reliability, loved so much I got another 2022 (certified luxury) for my wife, as these are the last vehicles I will ever owned, I’m elated with my purchases, oh, and they run on 87 octane gasoline, 2022 models V6 engines, the last of the finest, I was very lucky to get them with ultra low miles, thank you for reading my rambling thoughts, 🍻 Salud!

I drove from Brooklyn to Ontario with my 22IS. The journey was amazing. No body pain at all. I am truly fan of Lexus interior at this point.
If you think the RX seat is good, you will be shocked when you drive a Volvo XC90 or XC60. I upgraded my RX 350 in 2016 to Volvo XC90 and never called my Chiropractor again. With Bowers Wilkins sound system, it feels like you are in the most comfortable chair in a symphony hall. Please test drive one and you know what I mean.

I bought the 2022 specifically because I preferred the V6 over a V4 turbo. With the V4 turbo you only gain 1 mpg plus you must use premium gas which on average is an additional $15 per fill-up. I am Happy with my V6!

If you drive a Lexus, you can't complain about premium gas. With premium gas, you get better performance (more horsepower) and better mpg. I have a 2019 Lexus RX 450h F Sport, and I buy 93 only.

My Lexus is a 2017 and it is MARVELOUS!!! It handles well. I can get in and out of parking spaces with ease. It is quiet and smooth!
The elimination of the V6 in the 2023 models is disappointing to me. I owned three RX’s since 2001. The RX 300 (front wheel drive) lasted 15 years 263k miles with only one major issue, the transmission failed and it was replaced @ 190k miles. The 2008 was destroyed in an accident in 2017 caused by an red light running driver coming from the opposite direction. My 2017 RX 350 is running great after 52k miles. One thing in common is the comfort level, fuel economy, and durability of the LEXUS (Toyota) brands. However I will test drive the 2023 mode. Planning to keep my Lexus and 2019 Toyota RAV 4 for many years. Thanks for keeping us updated!
We just bought a 2022 RX350 F Sport with only 9600 miles and absolutely love it! I actually like the front grill and overall lines. It looks great on the stock F-Sport wheels. They did a great job. The interior looks even better in person. I think it strikes a great balance of being modern, elegant, and practical. I don't see it lacking in any tech. Ours has heads up display, 360 view camera, apple car play, heated wheel, heated seats, cooled seats, panoramic roof, an awesome Mark Levinson system, the display is a large 12.3" and the touch screen is pretty convenient to get to for me, tons of info on the cluster gauge, and I LOVE the F-Sport gauge and how it changes in sport mode...I don't feel like this car is missing any tech. Plus you get the simplicity of direct buttons for climate control, or heated/cooled seats. You don't have to always go through the screen. Sometimes too much tech for the sake of claiming tech is not good. There's plenty of tech in this generation, what more do you need? The only thing I wish it had was heated/cooled rear seats, and more pronounced ambient light that could change colors. Other than that, you're not missing anything. The V6 is great and has more than enough power. The interior is high quality and the seats are great, this is a buttery smooth cruising machine. Ours still has that new car smell and it really does smell nice.
Get the V6. Smooth, reliable, quiet and the best part that everyone seems to forget: it runs on regular 87 octane gas. That new 4-banger will need premium since it's the same engine in the new NX 350 which also needs premium. So the 4-banger will be less reliable, noisier, less refined, 30 less HP, and will cost more in fuel to run. WTF is Toyota/Lexus thinking??

The newer turbo 4 has a lot more torque available earlier which should help the transmission from gear hunting as often. Besides that though, I do prefer the v6 in terms of maintainance and the ability to be fine using 87 gas. Thank CARB and the EPA for making new cars suck.

The overall quality of this product from powertrain, trim fit, and driving experience is outstanding. The lane assist software holds you in the center versus bouncing from side to side like others. Well done!

@@jeffshaw9472 interesting indeed. I had a 2018 RX fully loaded, and LKA and Dynamic Cruise Control had issues with lane centering, although it was decent with tracking when you drifted out of lanes. Now I have a 2022 RX fully loaded, and LKA and DCC still same.. marginally better.
I definitely would stay with the old V6 for the extra power for the passing lane. The old V6 MPG is not bad.
I have the new 2022 NX 450H+. LOVE IT!! There is NO problem with acceleration in passing lane nor on the long uphill grade of the Cajon Pass in SoCal. Punch it and it goes! When I test drove the NX before purchasing it the getup-and-go quick acceleration was the first thing I tried. I was totally surprised by how well it performed considering it is “ONLY” a 4-cylinder gasoline engine. I expected it to be a slug. Believe me IT IS NOT! Also, there are “Sport” and “Sport +” options for transmission selection. Those options give even more “poop.” If you are wanting to take on a BMW M6 from the red light, don’t bother! This is definitely a race car. I love this car! It does exactly what I want it to. Cornering, acceleration and braking are excellent - exactly what one would expect from Lexus. Oh, and BTW, I traded in an RX350 for this new NX 450H+ plug-in hybrid…mostly because the RX would never pass a gas station! I was sick of the inconvenience of having to gas-up every time I wanted to take an hour’s drive away from home. I bought the NX a little over a month ago, and I haven’t put a drop of gas in it since the dealer filled it up at purchase time. The gas gauge says I have 194 miles left in the tank. I have put 565 miles on it.
My concern, AMD, is that the new RX350 will be under powered if they are going to the same engine as the NX - or something like it. The RX is a bigger heavier car. Will the “little” 4-banger be enough? Thanks for another great video! Bar none, yours are the best when it comes to Toyota/Lexus automobiles. Good luck on your new repair business venture!

@@lindyloulie80 I went for multiple test drives - Highlander hybrid 2022 ( 2.5), Rav4 2022 Hybrid ( 2.5), RX450h 2022, NX350h 2022 - all to be purchased brand new. My thoughts :
1. Highlander - sluggish, underpowered, boaty on corners, good interior and versatility, bad infotainment. 40 MPG
2. Rav4 - light, nimble, cheap inside, very roomy, pleasant to drive, bad infotainment . 54 MPG
3. RX450h - luxury, smooth, effortless , thirsty, great quiet engine rumble, outdated as tech as well. 30 MPG
4. NX350h - good blend of light but still solid, good combined power, great infotainment, pleasant interior and exterior. 45MPG
I based on MPG and running costs ( insurance, service costs) , I ordered NX350h F sport. Prices with discontinued and heavily discounted RX450h Sport premium edition are almost the same ( with less than 5% difference).

My wife picked up a 2022 RX450h in December and it's been a pleasure to drive. Did an 8 hour trip to Colorado without issue and the creature comforts are wonderful. I enjoy the V6 over a 4 cylinder and the ride is so smooth that you know where some of that cost of the price went. The insulation and sound dampening is superb. I highly recommend the Mark Levinson speaker system if you're in the market.
Mpg isn't 5hst great though. I got 19-21. My Toyota Venza gets 38 mpg. I get it though the power of the V6 is addicting.
Man it breaks my heart that Lexus is getting rid of the RX V6. I get the feeling that the new RX 4 cylinder is going to feel similar to a RAV4 four cylinder which lacks power in a lot of circumstances. The RX is definitely going to lose that available refine power curve it currently has with its V6 😔 This is terrible

Also like the sloped rear window. It is just a trademark of a RX and helps distinguish it from other bland SUV's. I also like how the rear wiper integrates into the rear spoiler at the top of the tailgate so that is is not strained and keeps working! Reliable!

Just bought a 2015 350rx with 43,000 miles. Perfect car black with darker brown interior. It is my Japanese bentley without ridiculous maintenance!
LEXUS is the KING of luxury, fit and finish and reliability ! My 2002 ES 300 just turned 170k miles and w new struts it rides so smooth, interior finish and quality is unparalleled. It’s quiet like a vault and still tight. Not one creek or rattle. Everything still works every button and switch. The amount of insulation they used 20 years ago is incredible. I’ve got people on TH-cam who commented that it’s just an expensive Camry. Not even close. There is more luxury items, Real walnut interior and insulation. My ES300 feels like it just drove off the showroom floor with 170,000 miles !
Lexus are also better rust-proofed than Toyotas.

MY 2022 RX 450H feels cheaper inside than my 2013 RX 450H. Replaced the walnut with plastic!! Took off most of the chrome on the outside. More and newer tech but cheaper materials. Steering takes a much lighter touch though.

I've made 38000km since March 2023 and it's an excellent GT, comfortable both for the driver and the passengers, packing a good amount of torque and dynamic enough for my needs. I had an opportunity to try the new 2024 4 cylinders turbo and everything is down in term of quality and finishing, Lexus did cut too many corners with this new one and it's painful when compared with my 2022; The V6 on mine is always discreetly available and always keen to wake up one or two additional cylinders, meanwhile the new flat-4 is whistling in pain whenever you touch it, it's not nice. I also hate the new button-less interactive setup on the new one, mine has real buttons clicking and rotating and it's the natural way for me to intuitively use a car.
So, in my opinion, the 2022 is the ultimate achievement of the RX serie, meanwhile the 2023 is an absolute degenerative product crying for help.
i am glad i got my 2022 rx 350 v6 awd as not a fan of 4 cylinder , this suv is quiet and smooth driving and put only regular gas .just went for the premium package , didn want to waste money on f sport ...
Have you driven the new 2.4T, it’s almost impossible to even test drive till later in the year and the NX I drove was pretty impressive. Obviously going to be different smaller car shorter wheel base width etc. but was impressed
It always surprises me that in the country where oversized engines are least needed, they are considered essential: the USA. The country with the worst roads in the developed world.

I thunked on the car and it sounded very hollow especially the rx and es I opened the door handles and it sounds hollow.. the interiors especially the door handles is the exact same in the Toyota counterparts.. it just old and outdated even the new ones.. yes it’s “reliable” but so is every other luxury car brand people just don’t like maintenance
I will keep my 2010 RX350 v6 with 158k miles. It's as good as 2022. No payments, maintain it's current value, don't have to worry about getting dings and dent.
I purchased a '21 rx350 new. It is the 3rd one I have owned over the years and the best. Ugly front end, but the rest is exactly what I was looking for. Quiet, comfortable, extremely reliable. Excellent fit and finish with high end materials. I consider the V6 to be highly desirable and predict that the later years of this model, specifically the '21 and '22 years will be sought after in the years ahead for all the reasons I have previously mentioned. My wife has an older NX and I will shortly be upgrading it to a lightly used '21 or '22 year Lexus Certified RX350. These vehicles are keepers in my humble opinion. Hybrids have their place (Toyota/Lexus versions are my choice) but EV's are just not ready for prime time yet. When they stop having all their recalls and battery fires and other issues I may be in the market. I expect that is still several years off.

I do a lot of highway motoring, and will take the smoothness and relaxed cruising of a normally aspirated V6 over the frugality of a turbo 4 cylinder
if more people understood how reliable these vehicles are you would never be able to find a used one without a bidding war! We had a 2004 ES330 and that car is so, very reliable. That car was so reliable that after my wife was done with it, let our kids drive it, then we gave it to her parents. Now my wife drives a 2010 RX 350. Quickly approaching 200K miles and we are only thinking of replacing it because she is tired of it. No other reason. We will probably give it to her parents too! Such an incredibly reliable vehicle! Is that the same engine as my 2021 Tacoma???

Any unibody platform isn’t going to have the same v6 as the Tacoma, yours is a 1GR-FE whilst the unibody vehicles such as my 2010 rav4 have variants of the 2GR
Yes, it is the same engine as the Tacoma. They are both using the 2GR-FKS.

I’m so glad I have two cars with the 3.5 My 2020 Lexus ES, and my wife’s 2018 Highlander. I know the big debate is emissions, but what I don’t understand is why other manufacturers are not going to small displacement motors in their SUV’s. I don’t understand why Toyota is? it has been proven turbos are not more fuel efficient all they offer is more torque. Why would someone pay a premium for a Lexus with a 4 cylinder, and they can go elsewhere for a N/A V6. My opinion I don’t understand why Toyota/Lexus is doing this where is the innovation that Toyota has and just settle with a small turbo.
I was thinking to someday perhaps upgrade my 2008 RX 350 to a 2020, but I think the 2022 RX naturally aspirated is the last of a great model, and I’d set my sights on one of those. Great video as always! 👍🏻

The Sport/Sport + mode actually makes quite a difference; the suspension is noticeably stiffer and revs higher and actually makes it a more pleasant drive on twisty roads.

My 2015 RX 350 Fsport is the last car I'll ever buy; 88,000 kms on the clock, Krown rustproofed every year, all fluids swapped using severe duty service intervals, do all my own service. Synthetic engine oil, about to swap the cannister engine oil filter for an adapter and spin-on filter unit from Baxter. Run CrossClimate 2 tires which I rotate every 5000 kms. Drive a V6 Accord Coupe in the summer (only), great TH-cam channel, thanks
I purchased my RX350 in July of 2021, it is a 21' model Eminent White, the (ivory) white leather interior, with the Luxury/Premium package. 24,000 problem free miles. I agree with your point that these cars appeal to guys like me that enjoy traveling in comfort and appreciate a dependable car. I am in the group of folks that love the spindle grill, it took awhile to grow on me when they first came out, I prefer the luxury spoke style wheels and the paint treatment over the F Sport model. You are correct that the rear deck takes up space for the sake of styling but I do believe the way they hide the rear wiper up in the roof line to be a great idea. Ihope they do not hurt the brand by taking away the 6, I cannot believe a 4 banger with a turbo will last anywhere near what the 6 will. I am still on the fence about the hybrid, no plugs in for me. I enjoy your channel.

I am so happy a have the last RX V6! I have the 2014 last body design of the original RX with 30k miles. Only drive for long trips. I love my version. It was also the last one made in Japan.

For the large majority of RX buyers the Hybrid is going to be enough power. Smooth and way more fuel efficient. It’s a great change for an SUV focused on smooth, calm driving.
I was going to buy the RX hybrid for my wife but decide to wait and buy the NXhybrid next year. We don’t need a midsize SUV anymore papas kids have grown and the NX is perfect size for her running errands around town. For longer trip we still can use my 2017 ES350, which I plan to after we get the NX for a LC hybrid.
"It looks nice, but it affects functionality". I agree. I prefer the oldest RX and highlanders just because of this.
The V6 is smoother than any 4 cylinder. I love the CD slot for old folks! Middle aged folks are covered for streaming but the young are left out. Young hipsters (and a few of us dinosaurs) listen to their music on the 12 inch vinyl record!

I just don't enjoy it like I do at home where it's vinyl, CD, SACD, DVD-A, Bluray, the very rare cassette usually brought by others through a Nakamichi deck, and of course streaming. Streaming comes from bit perfect CD rips, high res downloads, and Qobuz. No 8-track because it sounds like hell and no open reel because there's no room left.

Great coverage and topic to review. I just got my RX 450h L few months back. You hit everything on point. The main reason I chose this specific model rather than waiting for the new model is exactly the V6 engine. This is a practical car. I refrain from going to European brands because I want to be low key (not too flashy and scream luxury) while getting a refined ride quality that I can enjoy. This is a tested and proven engine that soon disappears. RX definitely delivers refined ride quality: plush, quiet, balanced power. What comes below my expectations are the fuel economy (not bad but not as great as I expected it to be), requires premium gas (for hybrid models), low torque from stop and go (I need to really push it deep to accelerate which hurt fuel economy, but works amazing when I push it at higher speeds on the freeways), and lastly the premium audio (the mark levinson setup is good but not as impressive as I expected it to be).
For people who would not care much about looks or prestige (read: be seen on fancy and luxury car) but care a lot about quality ride (comfort), this car is a great fit. I enjoyed driving this car across Midwest. Will I consider getting the new model? Hi might with the plug in hybrid, but I’d like to see it tested and proven before I jump the gun.

Excellent video! The life cycle of this car is so long that the earlier year models are an exceptional deal to purchase used as it’s a very similar vehicle to the 2022.
Love my 2022 RX. BUT - I get roughly 16 mpg city. I test drove a straight V6 RX 350 with 20” tires (that was made in Japan) and an RX450H with 18” tires (made in Canada). I preferred the feel of the straight V6 and wasn’t crazy about the CVT on the 450H, so I went with the RX 350. Love the car, but the MPG is brutal.
Try replacing the engine air filter if this is a old car your drive and MPG will improve . I assume u drive in eco all the time if not that’s the other change . Mine gives me 19 to 20 mpg without too many long drives . If I hit the highway a lot it’s about 22 mpg

2011 RX450h Owner here I think for my next RX if I ever need one Lexus Reliability and all it will have to be a V6 aswell that engine has just grown on me for the years I have owned it.
Not getting rid of my 2021 Highlander Limited V6 AWD for nothing. Although the Hybrid is very nice I still prefer the V6. Turbo 4 would be my last choice.
After a horrible experience with a Subaru forester .. i have now come back to toyota and have a 2019 rx and it is absolutely beautiful. I went to Pennsylvania with my husband and I was in the passenger seat thinking “man this is such a great car..so comfortable..drives on the roads like it’s nothing.” Such a nice car to take on a short road trip.Ofcourse I’m paying for it . I love it.
I had heard Subaru Forester was also a very dependable car. May I ask what issues you had as my son is considering one since it's inexpensive and all wheel drive.
@@vapeking466 hi. I actually had the 2015 XT which they don’t make anymore. Different engine from the regular foresters. However I had major issues with the check engine light. Multiple O2 sensors failing and a catalytic converter failure at 50,000 miles. The car would jerk during acceleration constantly and was not what I would consider a reliable car and sometimes it would have issues turning over. In the end the dealer told me I had sludge in my engine even though they did all the oil changes at the correct intervals. That was the last straw for me. It was a beast in the show though. Before I bough the Subaru I heard from everyone who owned one they are amazing cars. If you are looking for something to get you home in a snow storm definitely choose a Subaru..just make sure it was taken care of before you buy it. Honestly for snow you can’t get any better. If you are looking for something to get you home in a snow storm go with the Subaru- just make sure it was taken care of. For all wheel drive you can’t beat a Subaru .

My 2018 B9 Q5 has proven expensive to maintain ($7K+ in the last 12 months - engine mounts, water pump, control arms…etc), even pampered - as I do all my cars. Got a 2022 Luxury in Lat Jan. after rumors of the coming changes , now has approx 14,000 mi on it. Did a 5500 mi 18 day trip in Sept. Smooth V6 regular gas, quiet comfort to spare.

I was surprised how good lane assist is!! It’s almost self driving car.. no regrets buying rx350 awd 2020. Have regular automatic transmission. Downside when shifting to reverse or 1st gear “D”. 8/10

I completely agree with you. That is why the wife and I just purchased a 2022 RX350 non F Sport.
We need some smooth quiet and reliable engine. It was a tough choice between hybrid vs regular v6 but we opt for the v6. The wife did not like the Highlander’s ugly center screen and for the price Toyota was charging it makes sense to just get the Lexus.
I feel like if you want something this large, isn’t the six cylinder a more durable long term engine?
I don’t foresee any long term issues with the I4. Especially the hybrid trim. Toyota hybrids are their most reliable powertrain.
It really is simple. The 4-cylinder can have turbo issues, either supplier issues that require a new engine under warranty or later down the line from normal wear and tear (and bad maintenance and driving habits) when there's no warranty, and the V6 can't.
Still unhappy Toyota is dropping the Avalon after 2022. Was a wonderful sedan. Comfortable and reliable. Have to go with the Lexus hybrid now.

Edit: It won't be available as a traditional sedan tho, only this weird shape and they will even lift it and call it a crossover. 🤦 It will still have a trunk and not a hatch mind you, so it's just the worst of both worlds.

Im in the process of trading in my 2004 RX330 for a 2016 RX350 F Sport. Was not planning on this until a few hours ago. The F Sport literally fell into my lap at the dealership I work at. I love the aggressive look of the 2016 compared to the 2004. Say what you will about the grill, I find it more fitting for a man than the 2004 design.
EDIT: I planned on keeping the 330 for quite some time but from what I've seen from working in sales for the past year, I don't see an opportunity like this happening again (or at least very often). 52k miles and im getting it at WONDERFUL discount 😁

If you haven't bought the 2016, perhaps consider 2018 or newer for more refinements (engine, suspension per AMD's other videos). Most notable, 2016 RX's infotainment is not 4G or 5G capable (i.e., NO Enform, remote start, remote lock/unlock, SOS, weather, gas buddy, traffic conditions, etc). Those infotainment features stopped working when 3G sunset on 31 OCT 2022. There is NO 4G/5G upgrade or fix to the 2016 RX infotainment system.
Still driving my 2004 RX330 AWD with 40,190 miles on the clock. Good luck with the newer one. I powder coated my rims black and it looks better now

AMD, I think a Hybrid powertrain suits the relaxed character of the RX. Today's V6 Hybrid offers good fuel economy and the new 4 cylinder, which is already in use in the Sienna and Highlander, will be even better. In terms of practicality and cargo capacity, we see a pattern with RX, NX and UX. It seems that the luxury upgrade from humble Toyota models comes with a big downgrade in utility as sloping rear glass really diminishes cargo space. Why can't Lexus buyers have luxury and utility? 🤔
fuel efficient yes, but not all what Lexus buyers look for in the first place ! On our fast Autobahn these 4cyl. sucks and their fuel consumption is sometimes worse than a relaxed and smooth V6 !
@@kubanskiloewe very true, a hybrid does well in city driving, not on fast freeway. I plan to buy the NX350H for my wife next year to replace her RX as kids are already grown. We don’t need such as midsize anymore and NX hybrid fits perfectly. Myself I plan to buy he LC Hybrid in a couple of years as well to replace my 2017 ES350.
Lexus does offer luxury and utility. You just have to be willing to pay for it insofar as the GX & LX.

I own a 2020 GX and have driven RX's as loaners. It's exactly as you say reliable, smooth, and classy. I was impressed with the smoothness of the car and I wonder if the 4 cylinder will make it too buzzy. Might be a good idea to replace my Honda Accord with an RX and add another Lexus to my garage. Was talking with a Toyota master tech last week and he was telling me of the horrific problems they are having with the turbo V6 motors in the Tundra. He’s replaced dozens of turbos, 3 on a single vehicle. He suggested I keep my 2021 Sequoia Platinum and not consider the 2023 Sequoia Capstone. He’s predicting a complete redesign needed for the v6 twin turbo. He said it’s not very Toyota-like and he’s surprised they launched it with so many issues.
That doesnt seem right because they tested the V6 turbo in the LS500 for many years, then they implemented the same design into other cars, so its technically not a new launch, its a tested platform but maybe they just gotta work out a few kinks?

I completely agree with your assessment of the rear window slope affecting functionality. We recently went on a 1,400 mile road trip and packing the cargo area with our rolling cooler, dog crate and two carry on size suitcases was very cramped. We were unable to close/latch the hatch due to this issue. We ended up having to fold down half of the 2nd row to accommodate the rest of our items. All the being said we love our RX and it is a fantastic road-trip vehicle from a comfort and safety perspective. It just may be something to consider for those who have passengers who will occupy the 2nd row and would need to fit all of their belongings into the rear cargo space.

AMD, this has to be the best and most comprehensive review of a car I have ever seen. Really good job! I think the main point you were trying to convey about what makes Lexus so successful, that being a "very nice place to be", really resonated with me. The next generation is giving up something for the ushering in of the new technology. I'm more of an NX fan, and own two of them, but think the same message applies. I had a choice of buying the new 2022 NX but opted for a low mile 2021 NX300h Luxury instead because it had the creature-comforts I thought were import. Anyway, great job on the review. I replaced my RX with a NX300 and it gets about 1 mpg more than the RX and needs premium. Nicer driving but I miss the RX
I have 2 2016 NX200t (one for me, one for the wife) and we love them. Only issue we had was a coolant leak from a faulty pump that was replaced at 77k miles and covered by the warranty. Make sure to change your oil every 5k miles and do the spark plugs at 100k. I also get my services done at toyota because they have just about all of the parts and the labor is so much cheaper. I have 105k miles on mine and the wife has 112k miles on hers. Im looking at possibly upgrading to the RX or GX though because we have 2 dogs and a 1 year old so need a little more space.
I absolutely love the eCVT. Fell in love with it in my 2012 Prius C (still driving 165,000 mi) I bought a hybrid 2023 highlander for it. Driving is so smooth.
I bought the six before they only offered the neutered engine options for heavy vehicles. Small engine passing power makes me want to pass on their whole design.
The 4 turbo is better than the V6 in every way. The V6 has lousy low end torque. The 2.4t will blow it away in a passing maneuver. Maintenance is much easier on the 4.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q that turdbo 4 will never have the longevity of that 6. Turdbos are a bad idea. Those turdbo motors used in the F-150 are a joke.
@@josepharmato8032 The 5.4 V8 in the F150 was a huge junk pile. The eco motors are far superior.

I managed to get a brand new late 22 v6 hybrid model it’s beautiful to drive and a lovely place to be, I got touchscreen and lots of extras included oh and I didn’t go for the F sport 👍

Owned a “01 Rx 300 bought used in 2018. Had planned on buying a new car in 2025. Found a “22 rx350 awd certified with all the options I would have wanted, took for a test drive , loved it and bought it so glad I did! Given a “23 as a loaner, couldn’t find a comfortable sitting height, but I’am short. Very nice RX had to check out the pick up so did a heavy petal launch, terrific response. But it consumed a noticeable amount of premium gas. Everything you’ve said about the 22 in your review is right on! Confirmed my purchasing the”22 rx350. This was a great review!! I traded in a bmw x3 on a 2022 RX350. Beautiful car, but I hated the mouse pad and no digital speedometer. There were a few other things but those were the highest annoyances. I traded the RX in on a NX350 and I absolutely love it. It has the upgraded infotainment system which works like a dream. The interior is beautiful too. Do I wish I would have waited and kept the RX longer to see if I could get past the little things? Definitely, but I love the NX too. Lexus makes great cars. Great review as always!
The 2022 RX 350s have a touch screen. No need to use the touch pad.
@@jsz2619 yeah, I realize that but I came from the bmw which has a higher mouse and easier to navigate if that makes sense. I would rather use a mouse than constantly clean the screen. I don't remember being able to save artists and songs on xm either, but that is a non issue for most people.

Have a 17 Rx (wife's vehicle - non Fsport) & will definitely miss a V6 model. She loves it as do I. Its smooth, comfortable, very easy to work on for DIY types & like you said, simplistic. Albeit even for my wife who has zero mechanical aptitude, still forgets which button does what (aside from turning the heat/cooling on the seats). I did add the Lexus side running boards myself, very easy to install back then.
Two issues; if one is 6'+, drivers headroom can be problem. Like you said about the back hatch slope, one loses cargo room, which forces flipping seats down for items (but I do like the look)
The functionality I will miss is the ability to tow. Our has the tow package (good for 5k lbs). Not that I pull a camper or such, but its convenient to hook up a small utility trailer for that large stuff without the pain of renting a vehicle at a home center or rental place.
I really appreciate the indepth review of the outgoing model, but its kind of hard to truly answer the question without comparing to the '23 model.
The V6 will last longer. The 4 pot will save you fuel. Depends what your priorities are.
We just bought the RX-350l a few months ago, took 3 months to get to Dealer from Japan, appears to be a Great Car--about 25 mpg on Hwy...
I have been so pleased with the 2012 RX we have. With the 2023 arrival, I went to the local dealer yesterday. I knew of this video, and had viewed a part of it some months ago. Last night I viewed it in its entirety. Today I purchased a 2021 Certified example that had most every option on it. Important points that were pointed out in this video, and confirmed after reviewing my test drive of the 2023 model again in my mind sold me on staying with the former model. By the way, we are still keeping the 2012 also.
What do you think of the 2021 now that it has been a few months ?
@@BrucifyMe The 2021 is a noticeable improvement vs the 2012 that we still have concerning comfort. I did notice the 4 banger shifting more in the "drive" setting on the tranny. I knew the 4 banger would be working harder than the V6. If in city traffic much of the time, I feel the V6 would be better overall for me. Both engines would be acceptable if one were on the open road most of the time which we are not. I feel there is a lot to be said in a positive way for staying with a 6 speed transmission in general, but better fuel mileage is important for the mfr's today. Now what I really do not like concerning the 2021 vs the 2012 is that if one uses the manual shifting feature on the 2021 one is stuck in the gear one selects and then if one has to decrease speed with the 2021 dropping down to a lower gear in the process on its own, one is stuck in that lower gear. If one wants to have to accelerate to a higher speed quickly, one has to manually shift up the gear range. The 2012 if one does the same will downshift as one deaccelerates, but when one wants to accelerate to a higher speed, the transmission will shift up to the gear previously selected "top" gear previously selected. Why the newer models shift this way makes no sense to me. I have a 2006 Corvette. It is the same as the 2021 in what I just described. I was in a circumstance a couple of years ago where we may have been involved in a serious accident if not being able to have the 2012 downshift on its own when hitting the accelerator pedal. I am probably a bit off from what you are looking for in information. The other factor is that the 4 cyl. is an unproven engine. That also was an important factor in my decision to stay with the V6. Any specific questions, I would be happy to answer for you. I do all my own car work when possible. I have my own lift that I have had now for over 25 years. I am 78 years old now. Have a '78 Honda 750 SuperSport F2 motorcycle that I have to get going again. Like new less than 5K miles on it. Have always enjoyed cars and long trips - like doing the London to Mongolia drive in 2011 what a trip through countries I never thought I would ever visit. Too dangerous now to do. Best, Norbert
@@NorthernPlus Thanks for the interesting reply. I am surprised and intrigued that the majority of your impressions circle around the transmission and how it behaves. That is a really bizarre behavior and one that I do not think many consider at all when purchasing a car. I currently have a 2011 Avalon with the old faithful 6 speed and in its "manual mode" behaves identical to the 2012 Lexus you describe. I cannot even speculate why changes would be made to that behavior - but you are right, as extreme as it may be there are cases where such behavior could lead to, or contribute to the possibility of an accident occurring. Nonetheless, thank you for your detailed response and I hope your 2021 lasts for many years, decades to come.

The new engine, 4 cylinder even with the turbo, I personally think the engine is not or won’t be as smooth feeling. Also I don’t like small engine with turbo in a bigger vehicle
We recently purchased the ‘22 Lexis RX 450h. We wanted the V6-hybrid model knowing that it will be the last 6 cylinder RX. It’s not as economical as expected but the MPG is a little better than the Highlander 3.5 V6.

What is your real world MPG and what percentage of city/highway driving? I only ask because I’m on my second V6 RX 350. First one was a 2018 non F-Sport V6 and got a “decent” 23 mpg, but my new 2022 V6 RX was F-Sport AWD and now only getting 15 mpg. 😢 I am wondering if I should of gotten the 450H RX instead.
I love the power and smoothness of Toyotas V6.
I absolutely hate working on them with the other bank of cylinders buried in the firewall.
The main thing I liked about moving from a 2005 GS300 to a 2015 RC F was that Lexus didn't change things just for the sake of change. There were many details and controls which were exactly the same, which helped to get used to the car much quicker than expected. Everything was still in the same spot and operated the same way.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
As for "sport mode", blame the market. Everyone wants SUVs for practicality but don't want to give up performance. That's why these SUVs have harder suspension and "sport mode" even though it doesn't really work that well. It's really hard to have your cake and eat it too, but that's what the modern customer wants so they have to put it in.
Just brought a 2022 over a 2023 because it uses regular fuel ⛽
One will find that premium fuel will give it better MPG. Also, it adds much better lubrication for this amazing engine. 👍

Wow. A RX 450h in Grecian Water blue with F-sport package. This is probably one of only a handful made in this configuration. Ultra rare.
The one AMD is driving belongs to Lexus (their office near him), so they can pretty much get any color and build they want

I was so close to buying this model. The only thing holding me back was the archaic technology. I didn't even mind the touchpad but the screen resolution, navigation and backup camera clarity was just so far behind I couldn't do it. When I heard the 23 was using the new NX technology, I walked away. In the meantime, I found the Genesis GV70 which excels at comfort and technology, at $10K less. Sold.
I'm new to Lexus. RX350 F-Sport and I love her. Love the 350 V6 and am more than happy with the torque and power. Not a fan of horrible, harsh, high reving little turbo 4 cylinder engines in a large heavy SUV. So this will be my last Lexus SUV. Good thing they are so reliable because if a can't get what I want I'll just stick to this one the next 20 or 30 years. Lexus can keep their stingy, mean, little overworked disposable new unrefined 4 cylinder economy car engine.
I complete agree with you. The 2022 RX V6 is the right choice. In family we have an old 2007 RX 400h with 300.000km. Bought new from us, and Toyota/ Lexus service. Still running great! ❤
