That is great to know! I hope you don't mind, but I have pinned your comment to the top to make sure other viewers see it in case they are wondering if splenda will work for these!
This is perfect, thank you! I didn't boil it vigorously enough so my first batch didn't set (my siblings still enjoyed spooning it up and ate it all). Your recipe helped me get it right this time.
That's a smart idea! I've never seen anybody do that and I've never thought of it. I like it, though! That would make for uniform sized cookies! Thank you. :)
Home Ec. they need to bring that class back. I learned how to sew on the Bernina sewing machine and enjoyed the days we would get to cook. My favorite memory is when we got invite our parents for a dinner for two evening. We students cooked the same dinner and dessert for our parents. John McLoughlin Jr High, Mrs. Steiner was our Teacher, its been many years but I still remember that evening.
Thank you for this video. I discoverd your receipe several months ago and have made them several times now. Fixing to make a couple (or more) batches and put into Christmas parchment bags for a sweet treat to give to others. By the way, your receipe is just perfect. Thank you again. 😊 Merry Christmas everyone. 😊
When you started putting them out on the paper, it was like a flood of memories came back to me! My Grandma had these all the time. I think around Christmas, she put peanuts in them? My Grandparents lived a block away, one day when I stopped in(age7-8)? for my cookie,I told her that I hoped she never ran out of them.I remember her laughing and sitting with me as we enjoyed our cookie. Thank you so much for this recipe and juggling a great memory. I will be making these for my grandkids.❤
My mom sometimes made them - and still makes them - using crunchy peanut butter, but I don't remember her actually putting peanuts in them. I don't see why that wouldn't work, though. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment!
A family favorite for 50 years, we pour the mixture onto parchment paper on granite countertop. Then cool and cut into bars. If humidity or the kitchen witch results in too gooey, it's no problem, we eat it with spoons.
don't know why i didn't think of pouring it out like that & then cut, thank you! you just saved me time from it setting up too quickly, even though i try to hurry. 😊
I've made these for 58 yrs and you can reduce your oats n add coconut to it and it's amazing! Add chopped pecans n chopped cherries! I've done alot of different recipes using this same method! Leave Peanut Butter out when doing some recipes! Amazing different cookies! Thank you! ❤❤😁
yes, i have added in unsweetened coconut before, & peanuts (regular salted), too. for my latest (small) batch, i put pecans in. (i think the coconut was hiding. 😊 ) thank you!
Thank you! These have been my husband's favorite for 42 years, after I made them the first time when we were dating in 1982. Always a Christmas special treat and I do appreciate your video. Easy and they set up nicely.
I'm 64 and have made these ever since I was a little girl. I make them adding marshmallow or no Cocoa and use peanut butter and jelly very good and have added Carmel.
Hello thank you for sharing this video I'm in Monticello KY and I watched a video that a lady use to work at Disney World can't remember her name but showed that when you use parchment paper or wax paper on a roll that u can wrinkle the paper to stay flat and she also showed when you line the paper in a round pan cut the edges and fold over the pan and do the same in square pan I hope I explained it right but Thank You for sharing this I just wanted to share with you on what I had learned from someone else hope you had a wonderful day yesterday and today 😊
Thanks for something Another awesome video and another awesome recipe. Thanks so much for sharing my dear friend. It was wonderful. Can’t wait to try this one out. Hugs and kisses from grandma, Sandy and Debbie.
All these great recipes you always share with us all always enjoy coming to your channel and seeing what you come up with. That’s one easy and I’m sure the grandkids would love to have it.
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I have been looking for this for several months. I appreciate the fact that everything you do is explained well and that you have typed the recipe for everyone. Thank you so much!🌹
I'm 66yrs old and have been making these since I was a kid, with my mum. My mum passed in 2016. Missing her. I must double the recipe every time. I batch, not enough.
Really enjoyed your video. My aunty use to make chocolate and peanut butter ones but idr having chocolate peanut butter ones.. so i definitely have got to make these and theres no time like the present! Hope you are having a beautiful Christmas season! 🙋🏼♀️
Welcome, Bridgett! I'm glad this video brought up a sweet memory for you! 😃 We love these so much! I hope if you try them that you will too! I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas, as well!
Yep! I like the no thermometer for this recipe, too! I'm hoping to soon post my favorite toffee recipe and that one DOES use a thermometer, but it's very easy to do.
I can relate to this! I know how to make these and all of the sweet goodies on this channel so I struggle to resist eating up all of my own food all the time! 😂 I hope you enjoy them!
I don't think they had these at my school... or maybe they did, but I was partial to my mom's! 😁 Seems like I always used my extra 10¢ to get a sugar cookie!
For Christmas gifts, I use same recipe + a half cup of oatmeal put through food processor, and make truffles. a chocolate ganache for the center is pure heaven
POWDER CHOCOLATE TIP: If you mix your powedered chocolate in with any dry ingredients in the recipe, flour, sugar, cornstarch, etc., or in this case, mix the chocolate with the sugar in the bowl really well, THEN add it to the wet ingredients and it wont do the "hard to melt in dry clumps" thing when you add it to the milk & butter in the pan, even when it's still cold.
Love this stuff! Thank you for the authentic recipe. They so little plastic bags of these in the candy section of some grocery stores but they aren't near as good as homemade and they are hard to find. To make these 🍪🍪🍪
I don’t know that it l would work because hot chocolate mix already has sugar mixed in it so I wouldn’t even know how much you should use. You can certainly try it and then maybe cut back slightly on the added sugar. I just don’t know. 🤷🏻♀️
Hmm... to be honest, I don't know that I've ever counted them! It's going to depend on how large they are when you drop them out. You won't get as many as you would with cookies yo bake because baking cookies spread out so you can get more when you put a small one on the sheet. I'd say this would make about half of the amount you'd get from a basic cookie recipe, but these are also much richer and usually get eaten up quicker.
We made a batch of these and went exactly by the recipe and while they do taste good they fall apart. I'm wondering if less oats would make them stay together.
You can certainly try less oats. That might help the issue! If they taste powdery, the mixture might have boiled slightly too long. Too long can make them powdery or extra crumbly, too short of a boil and they won’t set. I hope this helps!
Can I put them in a square pan ? Will they sat up like that? I love them but when my sister makes them their very sticky but good so what is she doing wrong so I don't do make the same mistake
Hmm... I'm not sure about spreading them in a pan mostly because I don't know how neatly you'll be able to cut them. As for why they can come out sticky, that's usually going to be because they didn't boil for the full minute. It needs to be an actual boil for 1 full minute, but not less than that and not much more than that. If it boils much longer, they turn very powdery and crumbly.
You can also skip the scoop part at the end and pour the whole thing in an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 aluminum pan. The whole thing firms up and then you can just cut them later.
Kris loves these cookies. Also.. I wanted to inform you that I took your gravy recipe from the biscuits and gravy vid and successfully made the gravy gluten and dairy free .. woot woot!
Good question! I typically use regular oatmeal but I have used quick cooking oats. You can do it either way. I personally like the texture of the bigger oats, but the more finely chopped oats are good too.
The recipes are always in the description of the video. For your convenience, here you go: Ingredients: 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup milk 1 3/4 cups sugar 4 Tbsp. cocoa powder 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup peanut butter 3 cups oatmeal Instructions: 1. Melt together the first three ingredients, then add cocoa powder. 2. Once mixture has come to a steady boil, set timer for 1 minute. 3. After 1 minute, remove mixture from heat and add vanilla, peanut butter, and oatmeal. 4. Mix everything together well then drop no-bake cookies onto parchment or wax paper on your counter. They will generally firm up at room temperature. (If your kitchen stays very warm, they may take longer to firm up.) 5. After an hour to an hour and a half, enjoy these delicious no-bake cookies!
Hmm... I've never paid attention to the weather while making these. I don't see why you couldn't make these on a rainy day. I think they should come out fine. Also, I'm just using one of my old copper-bottomed Revere Ware pots that I've had for decades.
i like that you cut back on the usual 2 c. sugar i see many others use, i have cut it back also. and yay to, more cocoa! 😀 thank you! oh -- i meant to say that i put mine in the freezer on a couple of oval plates, with parchment. i'd say they could be bagged up that way, buuut... let's just say their freezer vacation is a short one. 😁 ** edited again ~ the idea of adding orange extract came to me when a thumbnail of orange salad appeared. oooo -- or maybe raspberry! i better get off of here, lol. take care, all. 😊
Oh... adding orange extract! I like that idea! Let me know what you think if you make it that way! I'll be curious to know if it was a hit! Thank you for watching and taking time to comment!
@OldTimeKnowledge ok, just made a batch. 😊 here's what i did -- omitted the pb, added 1/8 tsp salt (i use Himalayan pink) because i use unsalted butter, put in 1 tsp orange extract in place of the vanilla, put in 2 cups oats plus 1 cup shredded coconut (unsweetened). they're cooling now, so haven't had an official cookie yet, but the saucepan & the wooden mixing spoon have given the recipe 5-star ratings. 😁 let us know if you make some, too. again, thank you for your recipe! 😀👍
My sister requested me to make her some of these cookies with Splenda and they turned out great. Type 2 diabetes.
That is great to know! I hope you don't mind, but I have pinned your comment to the top to make sure other viewers see it in case they are wondering if splenda will work for these!
@@OldTimeKnowledge thank you and I hope it helps someone else to know they can substitute Splenda or another sweetener.
@@OldTimeKnowledge But how much Splenda (packets), please?
❤
Thanks, I am planning to use Monkfruit
Just a tip. If you will mix the cocoa powder with the sugar before you add it, it will dissolve much easier
That is a good tip! Thank you! 🙏
That's the way I have always done it
Sifting makes it smoother also. If you cut up your butter in slices it melts faster and you won't run the risk of scalding your milk.
I did mix the cocoa with the sugar and it worked really well thanks for the tip
Like when you make chocolate gravy 👍😘
This is perfect, thank you! I didn't boil it vigorously enough so my first batch didn't set (my siblings still enjoyed spooning it up and ate it all). Your recipe helped me get it right this time.
I'm glad you were able to troubleshoot and get it just right!
I have made these cookies since 1961...always turn out perfectly....
I drop mine I nto small cupcake papers! Thanks for the recipe again! I first made these back in 1971 Home economics !

Hmm.... leave out the peanut butter and oats and cherries and pecans... I like that idea! I might try that some time! Thanks for the suggestion.
Adding coconut is a great idea!
yes, i have added in unsweetened coconut before, & peanuts (regular salted), too. for my latest (small) batch, i put pecans in. (i think the coconut was hiding. 😊 )
thank you!
Hazel Nut Spread instead of Peanut Butter is good too.
My grandma gave me the exact same recipe and I love making these!
Oh, that’s awesome! I love these so much! It is an old-fashioned treat, and so delicious! 😋

POWDER CHOCOLATE TIP: If you mix your powedered chocolate in with any dry ingredients in the recipe,

I have been making these for years every Christmas. I also got this recipe from my Mother. I use crunchy peanut butter just to add a little peanuts.
These are so good! My mom really likes them with crunchy peanut butter. I've always preferred smooth, but really, they're good both ways!
I use crunchy peanut butter in mine, I used to put coconut in them, too.....yummy
This treat is so versatile! So many mix-ins would work great!

Hi there enjoy your channel, are the oats quick 1 minute or rolled oats , thank you Norm
I prefer the traditional rolled oats because I just like that texture, but if you don’t like that texture you can certainly use the quick oats.
My mom taught us how to make when we were little. Soo😂 good
They are delicious and I’m glad this brought up a happy memory for you! 😁
This is a great recipe thank you

Question for you instead of making individual cookies can you just put them in like a 9 x 13 or something like that and cut them up like a bar?
That's a good question! You probably could. I've never tried it. If you do, I hope you'll let me know how it turns out!
There fire love no bake cookies
Yummy yes I got your recipe ; actually I made these when I was a teenager an I just forgot.
I'm glad you are able to make them again!

is cocoa from like a hot chocolate mix suitable if can't find the pure hershey cocoa kind?
I don’t know that it l would work because hot chocolate mix already has sugar mixed in it so I wouldn’t even know how much you should use. You can certainly try it and then maybe cut back slightly on the added sugar. I just don’t know. 🤷🏻♀️

Question: is the oatmeal Quickoats or regular oats? Thank you.
You can use either. I typically use regular oats. My mom prefers using quick oats when she makes them. Just use what you like best! :)
Yum
Look yummy. Thanks for sharing. How many can you make from a batch?
Hmm... to be honest, I don't know that I've ever counted them! It's going to depend on how large they are when you drop them out. Can I substitute the Gran. Sugar with powered sugar?
Hmm… that’s a good question. To be honest, I don’t know. If you try it and discover that it works, please let me know.
Could you use Almond milk?
I'll be honest, I'm not sure. I've never tried it. If you do try it, I'd love to hear how it turns out!
Thank you..looks good❣️
Thank you for watching!
What if u r taking them to a dinner,do u refrigerate till u leave
No need to refrigerate once they've hardened. They are just fine at room temperature - unless it's summer and you live in a very hot place!
Which kind of oatmeal do you use? Old fashioned, or quick oats?
A lot of people have asked that in the comments. You can use either. I prefer old-fashioned. My mom uses quick oats. 😃 They are delicious either way!
I will soon thank you
I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Thanks for telling us that they get hard.the other lady didn't say they get hard she should have. Thanks alot I'm going to try to fix them.
Yes, they definitely should get hard. Well, not hard, but probably the chocolate part is a similar texture as fudge. :)
Did u use reg oatmeal or quick cooking oats?
Good question! I typically use regular oatmeal but I have used quick cooking oats. You can do it either way. I personally like the texture of the bigger oats, but the more finely chopped oats are good too.
Need the recipe for this
The recipes are always in the description of the video. For your convenience, here you go:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1 3/4 cups sugar
4 Tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups oatmeal
Instructions:
(If your kitchen stays very warm, they may take longer to firm up.)
5. After an hour to an hour and a half, enjoy these delicious no-bake cookies!
Can you make these on cloudy/rainy day? Also, did you use a heavy or medium sauce pan?
Hmm... I've never paid attention to the weather while making these. I don't see why you couldn't make these on a rainy day. I think they should come out fine. Also, I'm just using one of my old copper-bottomed Revere Ware pots that I've had for decades.
Do you use evaporated milk
Not for this recipe, but I do for other recipes. :)
@@OldTimeKnowledge thank you
i like that you cut back on the usual 2 c. sugar i see many others use, i have cut it back also.
and yay to, more cocoa! 😀
thank you!
oh -- i meant to say that i put mine in the freezer on a couple of oval plates, with parchment. i'd say they could be bagged up that way, buuut... let's just say their freezer vacation is a short one. 😁
** edited again ~
the idea of adding orange extract came to me when a thumbnail of orange salad appeared. oooo -- or maybe raspberry! i better get off of here, lol. take care, all. 😊
Oh... adding orange extract! I like that idea! Let me know what you think if you make it that way! I'll be curious to know if it was a hit! Thank you for watching and taking time to comment!
@OldTimeKnowledge ok, just made a batch. 😊
here's what i did --
omitted the pb,
added 1/8 tsp salt (i use Himalayan pink) because i use unsalted butter,
put in 1 tsp orange extract in place of the vanilla,
put in 2 cups oats plus 1 cup shredded coconut (unsweetened).
they're cooling now, so haven't had an official cookie yet, but the saucepan & the wooden mixing spoon have given the recipe 5-star ratings. 😁
let us know if you make some, too. again, thank you for your recipe! 😀👍
