I have been making these for 40 yrs and never have I ever not mixed in a teaspoon of pure vanilla to my oats and stir before blending the chocolate. I think the best no bake cookies deserves the teaspoon of vanilla. Try it. Nice video, your cookies look amazing! Good Job!!
❤my grandma taught me that long ago because she was also a peanut butter fudge queen lol. We rub sides of pot with butter also for sugar recipes like this , so it doesn't crystalize on sides of pot before the cooking is finished
What a nice recipe! Thank you. JFYI, if you combine the sugar, cocoa, milk, butter, IN THE PAN that you will be cooking it, you save yourself washing a bowl. Thanks again, love the recipe. Going to try it. Super sweet Grandpa and Grandma ❤!!!
Adorable grand parents so sweet your keeping their recipes going on down through the family. My daughter wants me to make her some for Christmas these are our favorites.
I have never tried extra crunchy peanut butter! Thank you for sharing! My children and grandchildren LOVE these. I only use 1 heaping cup of sugar, because they are so rich! I also Make homemade Hot Cocoa, from the back of Hersheys Cocoa label, of course when several of them visit, I have to double the recipe! I made it this past weekend for my grand-daughter and her friend! Easy, Simple and inexpensive in this economy! and makes a great dessert, or in between meal snack for tye Children( and adults!).
Hi my dear friend thanks so much for sharing a wonderful no bake cookie recipe with us today. Really enjoyed the video. You did a great job. Can’t wait to try this recipe out. Hugs and kisses from grandma, Sandy and Debbie.
Awesome looks like those are the best ones I've seen yet. I use extra chunky butter in mine too it makes them 100 times better !!!👍 Thank you for sharing with us ! Grandpa seem like a wonderful guy!!
I agree that no bake cookies are one of the best. Like many here, we have all been making these for years. I got my recipe 45 years ago from my neighbor who worked in the cafeteria at the high school. I've seen so many of the same ingredients just made differently. I add vanilla extract like others have said here. What I have not seen until your video, is them being made this way. But they look the same and yummy. Great cookies. And yes, passing this recipe through generations will be a winner for all.
These have been in my family gosh, long as I can remember my Momal!! My Mother ask me to make some for her,I'm her only son and care giver! I didn't want her to know I didn't know the recipe so I came across yours and as soon as I heard your voice, I quickly realized that has to be it,Mom sat and watch me making them telling me all the things I was doing wrong! I told her ok go ahead hate on my way,I bet you will eat those words?!?WELL,THEY WERE THE BOMB 💣 BEST WE EVER HAD THANKS SO MUCH💋
My sister won a blue ribbon in 4H when she was like 10 yrs old. I am 66 now andI have never made them. Not even sure why because I do love them. Thanks for sharing. My first ones are cooling right now.
I've been making these since I was in my early 20's now 72 . Got from a girl friend she got from her mother. They are good . Thanks I plum forgot them. 😊
I'm 60, and we always had these as part of school lunch, we called them cowpies and they were very popular. Nearly every day you could see someone eating one, and usually had one or two wrapped in napkins for later. The cooks cut them like brownies. I never knew the recipe but they sure were good.
I just made these, the taste is great. Next time I ll just plain crunchy peanut butter and a bit more cocoa powder. I didn't like that many peanut pieces. Very very good!
Wil this recipe work with a microwave? I'm asking because I want to do this with my participants at a program I work for but don't have access to a stove.
exactly the way I make mine, only I don't put 3 cups of oatmeal I like to taste the chocolate so I just add till I think it is enough cause the minute oats cook and if you arent careful it will be full of flakes and be white in the middle, I also mix sugar and chocolate really good first and don't put "real butter" in until it cooks and off the stove plus I use vanilla flavoring.. key is extra peanut butter but I use smooth.. been told best they ever eat..
@@notyouraveragefox Okay, I love hearing your grandparents southern accent! My grandparents were from SC! This is my first time to your channel! I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Great cooking session love the family aspect and evolving your grand dad's famous recipe, look forward to trying it though due to my sugar levels will reduce the sugar amount and do a swap onto coconut sugar but thank you for sharing
Don’t forget the tsp of vanilla at the end once you take it off the stove…I make tons of these. Mine are nowhere near as big as yours. Such a fast and great dessert to make if company is dropping in unexpectedly.
You could use erythritol sugar instead as a healthy sugar instead of the white sugar. Also, as much as 2 cups of sugar will make any sugar addict happy, I would reduce the amount slightly so it doesn't kill with sweetness. Thanks for taking the time to do this. One day when I run out of healthy sweets I will try this maybe. I am amazed at all the sweets recipes on TH-cam. Someone needs to do healthy recipes that taste great. White sugar should have a skull and crossbones on the package!
It is a recipe from olden times, for Pete's sakes! You know what's toxic and unhealthy? Passive-aggressive weirdos criticizing old family recipes. Leave the lady alone. Go have our fun, health sweets by yourself with all of your friends.
I think butter or margarine would work! Blue Bonnet is actually margarine. I said it wrong in the video. I’ve never used anything else but worth experimenting!
When doing any kind of baking you should always use butter not margarine. Due to the oil and water content in margarine, Cookies especially, they will cook better and stay softer longer. **A baking tip for you to try next time you bake a cake, either from scratch or a box. Stir in a large table spoon of mayonnaise to your mix. Your cake will turn out sooooo moist and will stay moist. You wont taste the mayonnaise at all!**
If you test this ingredient next to sugar you don't even have to use sugar fried banana and Oates it will make a pretty good thing just get that alone thank you
I’ve been married nearly 52 years and been making these forever. So quick and so good. However, need vanilla added as soon as you take it off the stove…I make twice as many as she did, in little clumps. Mine don’t spread out like these.
I've heard that some people substitute peanut butter with butters made from sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds. I don't know if that will work for you or how well these butters turn out but might be worth experimenting with.
Any one else notice that she said her grandpa only uses Quaker Oats but in the shot of him making them he was using Kroger brand......... I just made these and they were amazing!!
The recipe calls for quick oats because they are done pretty much instantly. Old fashioned oats take too long to cook for this recipe imo. Raw oats are hard on our digestive systems so I would recommend using quick oats to prevent a sore stomach or indigestion.
Yes, you can use old fashioned rolled oats. A lot of recipes for this type of cookie calls for rolled oats rather than quick cook oats, and I normally use rolled oats because that is what I have in my pantry. I like the chewier texture rolled oats gives the cookies. Another option, if you don't have quick cooking oats, is to put the rolled oats in a blender or food processor and pulse a few times to chop up the oats into smaller pieces.
They look good ! Why not measure sugar, coca and butter right into the pan and make the pan big enough to add the oatmeal right into the pan after cooking. Just saying. Loved your video !
I made these and i love the taste but i think i did something wrong once i added the chocolate mix ti the oats and mixed they started turning chalky looking like dry it was my first time making these tyype of cookies so idk what i did wrong but the taste was great
Hmm I’m not sure! I’ve made many times and so far it’s been great each time but I’ve heard this happens sometimes. Might be something with the temperature of the mixture.
This is the only recipe I come across that wanted to cups of peanut butter I have seen one cup add peanut butter and 1/2 cup of peanut butter. But never 2 cups of peanut butter.
My recipe (I just made tonight actually) has no pb. I put cocoa, butter and milk in a pot. Melt then turn up and boil 3 minutes. Add vanilla and quick oats and mix. That’s all. Just like mom used to make(only she called them ‘moose turds’ And I do too-we’re Alaskan). I consider these candy.🤷🏻♀️
The very best recipes are the ones where the flavor or aroma brings back happy memories
of times with someone who loves you.
They look awesome! No vanilla extract? That's the big difference from the ones I make. I am going to try your grandpa's recipe for sure!
I have been making these for 40 yrs and never have I ever not mixed in a teaspoon of pure vanilla to my oats and stir before blending the chocolate. I think the best no bake cookies deserves the teaspoon of vanilla. Try it. Nice video, your cookies look amazing! Good Job!!
Thank you! I do know many recipes call for vanilla. Papa just never had added it before. I may give it a go next time!
Tip, if you spray your measuring cup with spray olive, vegetable oil or any type of oil the peanut butter slides right out.
Thank you very good idea 😅

I don't think when I had them at school they had any nuts in them but I can't remember, I just remember they were so good.

I agree, the sugar content is rather excessive.
Too much white sugar, better to sub with coconut sugar and use less if you are using a sweet cocoa powder

I love your accent god bless your pa and I will certainly make these + one more subscriber me!:) also I’m allergic to coco so could I not add it?
You can make without coco! My papa makes them often without. They are more of a peanut butter no bake oatmeal cookie.
Is it possible to make these cookies without the peanut butter, they look wonderful but I’m allergic to peanuts ?
Some people do make them without peanut butter! If you’re good with tree nuts you could try almond butter possibly.
Thank you for responding, allergies to all nuts, is there anything else I can do, would just omitting the peanut butter ruin these cookies ?
I've heard that some people substitute peanut butter with butters made from sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds. I don't know if that will work for you or how well these butters turn out but might be worth experimenting with.
@@Teh-Gaz thank you, I can only try, they look so good !
